• Can someone help me remove/fix ubuntu?

  I'm very new to ubuntu for starters. Whenever I turn my computer on, it opens to the GNU Grub terminal. It says it supports minimal Bash-Like line editing (I have no idea what this means). To work-around this, I used "exit -ubuntu", this then takes me to a separate page which I selected the Windows Boot Manager and click on the Windows 8.1 icon which makes my Windows 8 load normally. If I click on the other icon, being the ubuntu one, I get put back at the GNU Grub terminal and thats it. If someone could help me either remove ubuntu or repair it so that I can load it again, I would appreciate it. I had installed the most recent ubuntu version. Any other required information to assist I can provide. Thank you.

• How To Purchase An MSDN License In India [closed]

  I need to purchase a single license for Visual Studio Professional with MSDN. The MSDN buy site (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/bb841434.aspx) does not allow purchases from India. It directs Indians to purchase from resellers. I contacted Microsoft and they sent me a link to a list of resellers http://www.microsoft.com/india/originalsoftware/business/retailStore1.aspx Many of these resellers do not even have a website. Many of them do not exist at the addresses mentioned (they have moved). Microsoft support personnel also seem very cagey about releasing any information. They do not even read the mail. They simply resend their canned response with the same link. There are many resellers (not mentioned in the microsoft page) who are selling MSDN subscriptions. Are they legitimate? • ASP.NET Tooltips Extender Control

  Tooltips is always a good usability practice to display descripitve and meaningful message on UI, which provide guidance and extra information to users visually. However, I cannot find this kind of handy "control" in the latest version (40412) of the AJAX control toolkit. (Feature request?) The traditional HTML "title" or "tooltips" tag of control cannot make the users (nor even developers) happy, so I searched and found this Tooltip Extender control today. • Security settings for this service require 'Basic' Authentication

  Had an issue calling WCF service today. The following exception was being thrown when service was called:WebHost failed to process a request. Sender Information: System.ServiceModel.ServiceHostingEnvironment+HostingManager/35320229 Exception: System.ServiceModel.ServiceActivationException: The service '/InteliChartVendorCommunication/VendorService.svc' cannot be activated due to an exception during compilation.  The exception message is: Security settings for this service require 'Basic' Authentication but it is not enabled for the IIS application that hosts this service..Ensured Basic authentication was indeed enabled in IIS before getting stumped on what actual issue could be. Turns out it was CustomErrors setting. Value was set to "off" vs "Off". Would have expected different exception from .NET (i.e. web.config parse exception) but it works now either way.

• Why do recruiters contact you instead of the companies themselves? [closed]

  When posting my resume, I get hounded by recruiters who try to sell me on a job. Why don't the actual company HR employees contact me directly? My information is available for them to find. Wouldn't they save money by bypassing the recruiter fees? Out of the hundreds of recruiter phone calls, only 2 actual companies contacted me directly (and 2-3 other non-company individuals). Should the HR employees be let go if they are so irrelevant? (The careers exchange doesn't allow posting questions.)

• Default save directory for gnome-screenshot?

  Are there any sort of configuration options for specifying the default save location for gnome-screenshot, or is this hard-coded into the source code? It used to be ~/Desktop, which seems to have changed to ~/Pictures (in 12.04). The only possible solution I've seen is about Setting the default name (as it includes time stamp information now instead of simply Screenshot#), but that solution doesn't really seem ideal to me. Also, this post suggested that the last save location is remembered the next time you take a screenshot, but in my experience, this doesn't seem to be the case. And in any case, following on from that, that entry in gconf-editor doesn't even seem to accurately reflect the last location, so more than likely an entry related to an older version of gnome-screenshot.

• Get system info from C program?

  I'm writing a little program in C that I want to use to output some system stats to my HD44780 16x2 character display. The system I'll be working with is a Debian ARM system and, although irrelevant, the display is on the GPIO header.(The system is a Raspberry Pi). As an initial (somewhat unambitious) attempt, I'd like to start with something simple like RAM and CPU usage (I'm new to C). I understand that if I make external command calls I need to fork() and execve() (or some equiv that will let me return the results), what I would like to know is how I go about getting the information I want in a nice clean format that I can use. Surely I will not have to call (for e.g); free -h And then use awk or similar to chop out the piece I want? There must be a cleaner way? The question should be seen as more of a generic, what is best practice for getting info about the system in C (the RAM/CPU usage are just an initial example).

  I'm trying to figure out how to find out if there's a good standard format for sharing business information such as: Business Name Address - well-defined fields Lat,Lng Coords Business Type - maybe from a well-defined enum, my starting point contains Retail,Food,Drink,Coffee,Service Hours of operation - including a spot for 'except laksdasd' or 'sometimes we open late' which could be just plain language Business Keywords - don't know if this is asking too much. how well do http meta tags work in practice? So, if no such thing exists, is this something I can submit to IETF? I can't currently find it on http://www.rfc-editor.org/cgi-bin/rfcsearch.pl , and vCard doesn't suit my needs.. Thanks!

• Should SpecFlow be used with BDD as a solo developer?

  I am a long time fan of TDD and after reading the RSpec book, would like to transistion to a BDD process. I like the idea of driving from the outside in, as it is presented in the book. What I am having a hard time getting a handle on is how to structure the tests. I have tried SpecFlow, but it seems cumbersome to use when I am the only one really ever going to be looking at the tests. I like the idea of just using straight NUnit, rather then adding another framework, like it is presented here. Is this a good way to try and structure BDD tests? Is there more information out there on comparing the two ways (that may even be more recent)?

• VMPlayer does not flush all outputs to serial port

  I am debugging a Linux kernel in the VMPlayer on Ubuntu 12.04 configured a serial port to a file to see the debug information. However, each time when the kernel panics, only the backtrace stack were printed out instead of all the booting messages. This does not happend on VMPlayer Fusion.   Problem: When debugging asp.net by attaching w3wp.exe process, you often will see encounter the following error message, the web server process that was being debugged has been terminated by IIS. Analysis: This caused Internet Information Services (IIS) to assume that the worker process had stopped responding. Therefore, IIS terminated the worker process. Solution: 1. Open IIS manager. 2.Click application Pools>>select the application pool associated with the site>>and click Advanced Settings 3. Click Advanced Settings of the application pool and set the Ping Enabled property from True to False. Now, reattach the process from Visual Studio, you should not get the error message. • files power_profile and power_method missing on ubuntu 12.04 after clean isntall

  OK here is the problem,I am using gnome-shell, ubuntu 12.04, kernel 3.2.0-32-generic-pae and the proprietary drivers for my ati card (Installed via "additional drivers") , the laptops is a hp 4310s probook and i want to control the power_profiles and power_method , because my GPU temp is high. before i reinstalled ubuntu 12.04, i used the .sh method on startup to write to those files, and everything worked like a charm, but now they are missing, and i can't create them.this is what i get when i try to create the directories mkdir: cannot create directory `/sys/class/drm': No such file or directory How can i can get them back?if you need some information , just ask and i will give it.

  My question is what is the subject area that covers web page execution/loading. I am looking to purchase a book by subject area that covers when things execute or load in a web page, whether it's straight html, html and Javascript, or a PHP page. Is that topic covered by a detailed html book, or should I expect to find information like that in a JavaScript of PHP book? I understand that PHP and Perl execute on the server and that Javascript is client side, and I know there is a lot of on-line documentation describing <html>, <head>, <body>, and so on. I'm just wondering what subject area a book would be in to cover all that, not a discussion of the best book or someone's favorite book, but the subject area.

• Installing linux on OCZ RevoDrive3 x2

  First of all, here is the configuration of my computer: Motherboard: Asus H87Plus RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32GB Processor: Intel i7 4770 Drive: OCZ RevoDrive 3 x2 (240 GB) (OCZ Revodrive3 is a PCIe module) I am trying to install the latest version of Ubuntu Desktop (13.10). The problem is that in the UEFI (bios) the drive shows up as a 240 GB drive, but in the Ubuntu installer it shows up as two 120 GB drives. If I install Ubuntu in any of these two drives, it never boots. The screen flickers a few times and comes back to the UEFI menu. I have tried reading up and have come across information that the drive has a "fakeraid", and the solution is to use dmraid. However, when I give the following commands in the terminal (from live CD): # modprobe dm_mod # dmraid -ay it says: no raid disks. And the following command: # ls -la /dev/mapper/ just shows /dev/mapper/control How can I install Ubuntu on my computer? what is the correct method?

• Question about server usage, big community platform

  I’m working on a community platform writen in PHP, MySQL. I have some questions about the server usage maybe someone can help me out. The community is based on JQuery with many ajax requests to update content. It makes 5 - 10 AJAX(Json, GET, POST) requests every 5 seconds, the requests fetch user data like user notifications and messages by doing mySQL queries. I wonder how a server will handle this when there are for more than 5000 users online. Then it will be 50.000 requests every 5 seconds, what kind of server you need to handle this? Or maybe even more, when there are 15.000 users online, 150.000 requests every 5 seconds. My webserver have the following specs. Xeon Quad 2048MB 5000GB traffic Will it be good enough, and for how many users? Anyone can help me out or know where to find such information, like make a calculation?

• ISO 12207: SQA as a supporting process?

  I have been following ISO12207 for the sake of my thesis dealing with software quality. Now I should explain quality assurance and here comes the problem: according to this norm, QA is a supporting process, separated but on the same level with verification, validation and auditing processes. According to other sources, Quality Assurance is basically high level activity making sure that standards, norms etc. are being followed. Usually the part of Quality Assurance is the Quality Control (testing, reviewing, inspections also V&V) which measures the quality and provides QA with this information so it can be acted upon. I somehow do not understand how QA is thought to be according to this ISO and what activities should it perform. Also it does not mention QC except for a footnote.
