• Can someone explain the ivy.xml dependency's conf attribute?

  I can't find any thorough explanation of the ivy dependency tag's conf attribute: <dependency org="hibernate" name="hibernate" rev="3.1.3" conf="runtime, standalone -> runtime(*)"/> See that conf attribute? I can't find any explanation (that I can understand) about the right hand side of the - symbol. PLEASE keep in mind I don't know the first thing about maven so please explain this attribute with that consideration. • SQLServer Replication, dealing with updating data in a subscriber without merging with the publisher

  To simplify my problem, picture two databases, one is a publisher, one is a replicated subscriber. Most of the time, changes are configured in the publisher, and pushed to the subscriber once per day using transactional replication. (The subscriber is the main production database). However, on a rare occasion, we need to make a change directly to the subscriber database. This does not break replication, however to ensure consistency, we also want to replicate this single change back to the publisher database. My first thought was to make both databases publishers to each other, but that does not work. Merge replication also does not work as that merges the data together, and we really only want to push that single change from the subscriber back to the publisher. Is there some other replication scheme I can use here, or do I need to invent my own thing?

I know I can rip the whole thing apart, but I reallllly don't want to touch it and his code works :) Any ideas how I can debug this with Firebug? Cheers

• How to find a coding buddy

  I was reading Jeff Atwood's blog and he mentioned that he was suffering from code-paralysis (he called it analysis paralysis, but I feel like it's also code paralysis) when he didn't have a code buddy: http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/ Unfortunately I think that Jeff has set the bar a bit high, because he only works with developers who are really amazing. The only reason really amazing developers would work with me is if I was really amazing too, but sometimes I don't feel that amazing... the only thing I feel is that if I had a coding buddy I could be amazing :). I'm working on a project and I don't have many friends that are programmers, let alone friends that have time to spend on extracurricular activities. Jeff seems to have been able to find like-minded people that are actually willing to work together. I feel like I'm in a code-paralysis stage too and I need some coding buddies, where would I find some? How would I approach them?

• Problem with istringstream in C++

  Hello, I'm sure I'm just doing something stupid here, but I can't quite figure out what it is. When I try to run this code: #include <iostream> #include <string> #include <sstream> using namespace std; int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { string s("hello"); istringstream input(s, istringstream::in); string s2; input >> s2; cout << s; } I get this error: malloc: *** error for object 0x100016200: pointer being freed was not allocated *** set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug The only thing I can think of is that I allocated s2 on the stack, but I thought strings manage their own content on the heap. • Not sure whether to use haXe of just plain flash

  Hi Guys, A local sports clothing company has hired me to make them a flash based jersey colour picker sort of thing. They are wanting it so users can check out what particular designs would look like with certain colours. Now, I'm by no means a great developer (I'm 16, but I know my way around javascript, flash and a bit of AS2) but I've taken notice of haXe recently and think it might be a good project to write in it and compile to a swf. I'm not sure if I should just use flash, or if I should use haXe. Is anybody able to iterate on the strengths and weaknesses of using haXe or flash please? Thanks in advance! P.S. I do have a copy of flash (supplied by school), so that doesn't concern me.

• Zend Framework - applying order by on a nested query

  Hey guys This might be a very simple thing. Check out the normal sql query below (select * from shopping order by shopping_id desc limit 5) order by RAND() This query runs successfully in mysql - not sure if this is the right way of doing it - but it works. It gets the last 5 ids from shopping table and randomly orders them everytime I want to achieve this in Zend. I'm not sure how to execute the first part and then apply the RAND clause to the results - what I have below does not do that. $select = $this-select() -from(array('sh'='shopping')) -order('shopping_id desc') -limit(5) -order('RAND()');

• Getting the median of 3 values using scheme's

  The problem this time is to get the median of three values (easy) I did this: (define (med x y z) (car(cdr(x y z))) and it was accepted but when testing it: (med 3 4 5) I get this error: Error: attempt to call a non-procedure (2 3 4) And when entering letters instead of number i get: (md x y z) Error: undefined varia y (package user) Using something besides x y z I get: (md d l m) Error: undefined variable d (package user) the question was deleted dont know how anyway write a function that return the median of 3 values Sorry for editing the question I got that I should put the values in order first not just a sill car and cdr thing so I did so 33> (define (med x y z) (if(and( (<x y) (<y z) y if(and( (<y x) (<x z) x z))))) Warning: invalid expression (if (and< (<x y) (<y z) y if (and ((<y x) (<x z) x z)))) but as u see Im getting a warning so what is wronge ?

• Facebook Javascript SDK: First time logging in

  I'm currently integrating Facebook with my website using the Javascript SDK. I've got the login portion working well. The only thing I'm trying to figure out is if there is a way to tell if it was the first time the user logged into my website using their Facebook credientials. I tried subscribing to auth.login, but that didn't seem to have any information about that. Is there a flag anywhere that lets me know this? Or another way to go about looking this up? I realize I could do some server side code, but I'd prefer to stay away from that if possible. Thanks in advance, Brandon

• C# .net -> SQLite error: Unable to open the database file

  Hello all, I'm getting "System.Data.SQLite.SQLiteException: Unable to open the database file." when I attempt to access the database to save a record upon the "first" opening of my program. Here's the thing, it works fine when debugging locally in Visual Studio, but stops working when I package the program in an installer, and then install the program somewhere. I was guessing that it was the location of the database, which I just have set at database.s3db without a path, because it is stored next to the program's exe, but how could that cause problems? I'm at a loss, any further ideas or suggestions for solving this problem would be greatly appreciated.

  Hi, My code is ion cocos2D. I have written code for generating the bullets from the enemy gun for every 0.3seconds. The enemySprite is in right side of the screen in (land scape mode) at winSize.height/2. the bullet starts from the same point and reach the player's end. I used rand() to generate y-coordinate for the bullet to hit on player side. Now, if the bullet bounded rectangle meets the player bounded rectangle the enemy won. If it misses enemy shoots again after 0.3 seconds. Every thing is fine up to here for me. But I have 10 enemies and each have accuracy of hitting player of probabilities ranging from 0.80 to 1.0. First enemy probability is .80 and 10 enemy's is 1.0. How can I adjust the probability for enemy such that it runs according to its probability. Player also hits the enemy.

• Does performance even matter anymore? [closed]

  The performance differences between C/C++ and C# are astounding. An ASP.NET page loads in 1/8 the time that a PHP script does haha.... WPF, aka " The Future ", (you know it will be, all the companies are gonna want cool looking desktop apps, don't kid yourself.) And it has huge performance hits just to start up. We've let Microsoft make us as developers lazy! Why do I hate this, it's such a good thing? Are we at a point in time where the majority of computers can handle this kinda crap? I remember when performance used to matter. Anyways, I'm writing a .NET library and ever since I found out LINQ is slower than traditional delegates which is slower than the normal procedural code... well it's a guilty evil I feel for every LINQ query I write, because they are so beautiful. Am I just too much of a performance stickler? Or just too big of a nerd?

• Why flash makes Firefox not to respond

  I have a full page flash animation. When this page is open at Firefox and I want to minimize or re-size Firefox screen, minimize button starts to blink and Firefox does not take any action till this tab is closed. There is not too much code in the flash file. What can cause this? Also this could not be related with full page. I saw other flash files doing same thing. As I remember same problem at Daily Motion. When trying to switch tab nothing happens till I stop video or close the tab.

• Adding Parameters to Zend_Navigation

  I have a problem with Zend_Navigation that I am hoping for a little guidance on. I'm in the process of adding a Zend_Navigation to a legacy app as described [here on SO].1 The thing that I am not sure of is how to add parameters to the navigation menu after the data is loaded from the xml file. What I want to do is get 2 identifying parameters from the url and add them to the Zend_Navigation so that they are included in things such as the breadcrumb bar, so that if a user selects the previous item in the breadcrumb they are returned with the correct params in the url. The parameters, I believe need to be set at the Action level rather than the controller. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks.

Again I'm still new to this javascript thing, so just would like to know if there is another way of setting the values of an array (just like declaring it); //correct way of declaring an array and reusing var adata = new Array('1','2','3'); //reusing of variable adata[0] = '4'; adata[1] = '5'; adata[2] = '6' This part is my question; I want to declare the values of the array just like declaring them to minimize the number of lines; //array declaration var data = new Array('1','2','3'); //reusing of variable data = ['4','5','6']; ---> (as an example) I get an error msg "Invalid assignment left-hand side" is this possible? • Getting a summary of comments in Jira

  I currently maintain a Jira system at work and I have been tasked with a rather strange request which is too find a way of 'making a summary of a comment'. In the ideal situation this would allow a user to write a comment and a quick summary however I doubt this is something available in Jira / something that is feasible. Alternatively a summary of all comments would be nice that will allow our technical writers a way to clarify fixes through the information in the comments. If any one out there has ANY suggestions or ideas on this they are most welcome :) Sorry if this question is slightly general but I cannot find any thing that remotely helps on google, wondering if any Jira experts can push me in the right direction. • Occasional InterruptedException when quitting a Swing application

  I recently updated my computer to a more powerful one, with a quad-core hyperthreading processor (i7), thus plenty of real concurrency available. Now I'm occasionally getting the following error when quitting (System.exit(0)) an application (with a Swing GUI) that I'm developing: Exception while removing reference: java.lang.InterruptedException java.lang.InterruptedException at java.lang.Object.wait(Native Method) at java.lang.ref.ReferenceQueue.remove(ReferenceQueue.java:118) at java.lang.ref.ReferenceQueue.remove(ReferenceQueue.java:134) at sun.java2d.Disposer.run(Disposer.java:125) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:619) Well, given that it started to happen with a more concurrency-capable hardware, and it has to do with threads, and it happens occasionally, it's obviously some kind of timing thing. But the problem is that the stack trace is so short. All I have is the listing above. It doesn't include my own code at all, so it's somewhat hard to guess where the bug is. Has anyone experienced something like this before? Any ideas how to start solving it?

• Persistence provider for Java that supports final fields

  I'm very new to Java but I've been developing a habit to use final wherever possible declaring immutability which i think is a good thing. (Consider f#) I've read that JPA does not support final fields. Hibernate, TopLink? I'm not sure about these but i prefer JPA for now. Is that even possible theoretically - let's say through reflection - to modify final fields after creation? My guess would be... NO :) What would be certainly possible for a persistence solution is to support constructors with parameters. At least i see no reason that would make this impossible. Mapping would be a little tricky i guess. This is an alternative solution. Suggestions?

• Does Eclipse has a plugin for code clips like in Coda?

  There is a very useful "Clips" feature in Coda, do we have such thing in Eclipse? What it does is pretty simple, you save once a code clip which you use very often and assign it a shortcut and when you want to re-use it on editor you type the shortcut you assigned and it automatically pastes that code clip and sets caret position to the defined position. On the example here (second image) when i write 4dom and press TAB afterwards it types me this... jQuery(function($){ //puts cursor here }); Since it is a very useful feature i miss that one on Eclipse, is there a plugin for this?   I'm using the FOX Toolkit and C++ to develop a GUI. I'm Having an issue with the FXFile::concat(...) command. The method looks like: FXFile::concat(const FXString & srcfile1, const FXString & srcfile2, const FXString & dstfile, FXbool overwrite = false And when I call it with the srcfile1 and dstfile being the same thing (because I need to simply add to srcfile1), the method does not work. dstfile is empty. Anyone have experience with FOX and this concatentation problem? I'm open to other suggestions as well, including boost.

• Get graphics information from font file. How to develop font parser similar to PDFView's font parser

  Hi, I am trying to convert text into graphics using c#. My input is character string and output is bitmap with the input text. After lot of search I found some ways to do it, I found some techiques which uses this kind of techinque. For Example While creating Captcha, we have to print the character in the bitmap. But for that I should have the font installed in my windows. I can not perform such operation without installing the font. I have .ttf file with me but I dont want to install it because my work for that font is temporary only. Is there any way where I can extract out the Font's graphical information by providing the Character?   I'm doing some experimenting with this malicious JavaScript line: var undefined = true; Every uninitialized variable in JavaScript has the value of undefined which is just a variable that holds the special value of 'undefined', so the following should execute the alert: var undefined = true, x; if (x) { alert('ok'); } But it doesn't, and my question is why? On further experimentation, I tried the following: var undefined = true, x = undefined; if (x) { alert('ok'); } This time, the alert is executed. So my question is...since in the first snippet x holds undefined (because it is not initialized), why didn't the alert execute? The strange thing is that when explicitly stating that x is undefined (x = undefined), the alert executed...

• Between a jsf page and a managed bean, why the getter method is called twice

  Hi, I have a jsf page with a form has an outputtext in it. The value of outputtext component is called from a backing bean (or managed bean). I know when I code it as #{MyBean.myString} Jsf rename it and calls getMyString() method. However the wierd thing is, when I put a breakpoint to the getter method of this component, I see it is called twice during the page is being rendered. The outputtext is in a h:form, and it is the only component wich is bind to a backingbean. I mean, it is so wierd that jsf should get the value when it first come to the getter method, however it needs to go to the getter method twice. Can you explain what is the reason of this behaviour in jsf? Any help would be appreciated, Best wishes, Baris
