• Should I use two queries, or is there a way to JOIN this in MySQL/PHP?

  Morning y'all! Basically, I'm using a table to store my main data - called 'Code' - a table called 'Tags' to store the tags for each code entry, and a table called 'code_tags' to intersect it. There's also a table called 'users' which stores information about the users who submitted each bit of code. On my homepage, I want 5 results returned from the database. Each returned result needs to list the code's title, summary, and then fetch the author's firstname based on the ID of the person who submitted it. I've managed to achieve this much so far (woot!). My problem lies when I try to collect all the tags as well. At the moment this is a pretty big query and it's scaring me a little. Here's my problematic query: SELECT code.*, code_tags.*, tags.*, users.firstname AS authorname, users.id AS authorid FROM code, code_tags, tags, users WHERE users.id = code.author AND code_tags.code_id = code.id AND tags.id = code_tags.tag_id ORDER BY date DESC LIMIT 0, 5 What it returns is correct looking data, but several repeated rows for each tag. So for example if a Code entry has 3 tags, it will return an identical row 3 times - except in each of the three returned rows, the tag changes. Does that make sense? However, when I POST this to the server, I get <categories> <CATEGORY id="1"/> <CATEGORY id="2"/> </categories> Indeed, doc.documentElement.firstChild.nodeName returns "CATEGORY". The nodes are added using jQuery.append('<category/>'). Why are the child tags returned in all caps?

  Hi, I have a document.onclick function that I would like to have a delay. TIA Edit: The solutions were all good, my problem was that I use the function check to obtain the id of the element being clicked on. But after the delay, there is no "memory" of what was being clicked on, so the rest of the function does not get executed. Jimr wrote the short code to preserve clicked event. • ASP.NET AsyncPostBackTrigger disables button's OnClick function???

  I saw another post like this: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1795621/asyncpostbacktrigger-disables-buttons But I don't really know what to make of it. The accepted answer was poorly typed. Basically, I have a button with an OnClick function. I also have a UpdatePanel, with is AsyncPostBackTrigger set to that same button. It seems that if I do this, my Button no longer does ANYTHING. I guess it's because I have a Page_Load() event... Can anyone explain why this is? And how should I set up my webpage if I can't use the Page_Load() function? Oh and if I put my Button in a UpdatePanel, it also won't do anything, probably because of the same reason. • Syntax error results in blank page

  I am new to wicket and trying to get some things working. One thing that annoys me a lot is that I get a blank (0 chars of text) page whenever there is a syntax error on a page. Striped down example: Test.html header stuff: doctype ... html ... head ... body ... <span wicket:id="msgTest" id="message">MSG</span> footer stuff: /body ... /html Test.java public class Test extends WebPage { public Test() { add(new Label("msgTest", "Hello, World!")); } } This will output the page as expected. Now, lets introduce an error: header stuff: doctype ... html ... head ... body ... <span wicket:id="msgTest2" id="message">MSG</span> footer stuff: /body ... /html I changed the label-id to something different then what the source-file expects. If I run this code I get the already mentioned blank page. However, for every request to a page with such a syntax error I get an error report in the log-file of around 1000+ lines. This error-report is basically just wicket-generated html of a page which describes the error. This makes me wonder why wicket isn't displaying the error-stuff instead of the blank page. I'm not very experienced with wicket but to me it somehow looks like wicket is having trouble rendering its own error-page code. It would be nice to know how one goes about finding syntax-errors with wicket. Reading through a 1000+ line error-report for a small error like a misplaced character seems a bit tedious. It works when I change from id to idfield - but our server code breaks since it expects the form with element key id. Is there a work around for this? My thinking: * use a singleton pattern (mouse is only one after all) * pass somehow my instance to OnMouseDown/Up - how? Thank you for help!

The doPostback javascript function posts the button click back, and hits btnSubmit_Click where a report is then generated. If I see if a radio button is checked, it's always rbReportTypeCust.checked = True, never the rbReportTypeProg.checked = True even if I click it. Any suggestions?

• Documenting logic in javadoc

  I have a question about where to document logic in javadocs. For example, I have the following method signature in an interface: public int getTotalAssociationsAsParent(Long id, Long type); The method returns associations where the given ID is the parent and the association is of type 'type'. ID is required, but if type passed in is NULL, then I will return ALL associations where the ID is the parent. My question is where should this type of logic be documented? I hesitate putting it in the javadoc of the interface because that sort of constrains all implementing classes to adhere to that logic. Maybe in the future, I'll have an Impl class that throws an IllegalArgumentException if type is NULL. However, if I put it in non-javadoc in the Impl class, then consumers of this method won't know how the method behaves with a NULL type.

• slow DNS resolution

  I have a DNS server that resolves all queries for an internal group of servers. It is a bind on CentOS 5.5 (same as RHEL5) and I have set it up to allow recursion and resolve direction without any forwarders. The problem I am facing is that it takes a freakishly long amount of time to resolve a name for the first time. (in the magnitudes of 20 sec) This causes clients to give timeout. When I set it to forward all to Google's public DNS, i.e. 8.8.8.8+8.8.4.4, it works very nicely (within a second). (this goes on for a few more seconds) If you look carefully, you will see that the first 3-4 root servers did not respond at all. This wastes 7-8 seconds, until one of them responded. Do you think I have setup something wrong here? Interestingly, when I dig directly from the root servers that did not respond, the always respond very fast (showing the firewall/nat is not the issue here). E.g. dig www.paypal.com @192.35.51.30 works perfectly, consistently, and very fast. What do you think about this mystery?
