• Letting the user draw a Polygon Body and Image

  In my game, I want to provide the user with a drawing feature. By free hand drawing, the user creates a polygon shape. Then, in my game implementation, I have to create a body for the found vertices and generate an image based on that polygon shape. My problem is how to create an image that matches the user-provided vertices. I've heard that cocos2d has something called Image Masking. I don't understand how I could implement it in AndEngine. Could someone help?

  The interest for having a GlassFish community event at JavaOne is still very strong both inside Oracle and in the community, so this year again we'll be hosting a get together on the Sunday prior to the main event. If you're in town and attending JavaOne, mark your calendars : Sunday 2nd, October 2011 - 12:30pm-4:30pm in the Moscone This will be an opportunity to discuss the community status (adoption of Java EE 6, GlassFish 3.1.x) and hear about future plans, mainly around Java EE 7 and the related GlassFish release(s). We'd also like to have several participants share their deployment stories as well as some time for an free-form unconference format and some team building activity. Of course, beyond all the content shared in slides, this should really also be a good excuse to meet folks from the community and from the core GlassFish team at Oracle. • 100% APC Fragmentation - Cacherouter & Pressflow install

  My APC cache has a 100% fragmentation. I'm not quite sure I understand what is going on here. For testing I jacked the available memory up to 512. After a day the total available free memory shows 73% but I still have 100% fragmentation. Would you gurus please look at my settings and offer your advice? Oh, I have read people suggest that I disable apc.stat when possible but when I do the site crashes. I am using the Pressflow build of Drupal 6 with the cacherouter module installed. • How should I define my Java Objects?

  I have a data grid where I sort of show the following information - All Guests Total Adults = 22 Total Children = 27 Confirmed Total Adults = 9 Total Children = 13 Country = Germany Total Adults = 5 Total Childres = 6 Friends Adults = 2 Children = 2 Relatives Adults = 3 Children = 4 Country = USA Total Adults = 4 Total Childres = 7 Friends Adults = 2 Children = 5 Relatives Adults = 2 Children = 2 Tentative Total Adults = 13 Total Children - 14 Country = Australia Total Adults = 7 Total Childres = 8 Friends Adults = 2 Children = 3 Relatives Adults = 5 Children = 5 Country = China Total Adults = 6 Total Childres = 6 Friends Adults = 2 Children = 4 Relatives Adults = 4 Children = 2 And in the database what I have is data at the lowest level which is Friends / Relatives and the corresponding countries set as a look-up value which in indirectly connected to another look-up that can tell me if they fall under confirmed or tentative. I guess my question is how do I layout my Java Object and perform the aggregations and give it back to the client. I am not sure if I am clear with my question, but feel free to comment so I can update the question accordingly.

• How much to charge for being available for support?

  I am working in small development firm, our main products are ASP.NET and SQL server based. We are deploying a new version of our product and client wants 4-hour response time technical support. Some of this support time will fall outside regular business hours and our boss asked us how much should we charge for being available outside regular business hours? Is it 50% of our hourly fee, 20% ? Any suggestion is appreciated, he is pushing us to speak up and I don't have any idea. I don't want to underprice my free time. Thanks.

• The way to the future - Hybrid systems

• Which VCS is efficient for storing small changes to big text files?

  A government agency publishes a text file with thousands of records. The entire file is about 60MB. Every day the file has about 60 new or changed records. We need to validate some info against that file, and for auditing purposes, we may need to recover the file as it was in certain date. I thought I could use a VCS to store the file using git, but I understand git stores the entire text file gzipped, so the 60BM file will still need about 30MB to store everyday version. I wonder if one of the free VCS stores only diff/patch files.

  This is the obligatory first posting in which I describe to you my plans for this blog and why you should read it. My plan is very simple – to share with you (and possibly myself along the way) relevant information about tools and techniques that you can use (or perhaps shouldn’t use) to solve problems with code. Most of my employers have paid me to develop solutions using Microsoft tools and technologies, so you will see them heavily represented here. I also plan to avoid having this blog function simply as a link aggregator, so I promise that it will be rare for you to find entries in my blog consisting solely of a link to someone else’s blog or a webcast – if I do have such links they will at least be accompanied by commentary.   I'm not very familiar with Ubuntu or Linux, but I'm a programmer, and some people told me that you can just go ahead and modify your system. So my question is, how do you go on about that? For instance, If I'm interested in modifying the behavior of the button or the desktop icons, or whatever it is: How do I get the source code? I guess I need the package name and download it. But how can I get the package name? Let's say I want the button package, where do I look to get the package name? is there a list on a website or a help file? • Programming languages with extensible syntax

  I have only a limited knowledge of Lisp (trying to learn a bit in my free time) but as far as I understand Lisp macros allow to introduce new language constructs and syntax by describing them in Lisp itself. This means that a new construct can be added as a library, without changing the Lisp compiler / interpreter. This approach is very different from that of other programming languages. E.g., if I wanted to extend Pascal with a new kind of loop or some particular idiom I would have to extend the syntax and semantics of the language and then implement that new feature in the compiler. Are there other programming languages outside the Lisp family (i.e. apart from Common Lisp, Scheme, Clojure (?), Racket (?), etc) that offer a similar possibility to extend the language within the language itself?

• Do I have to remove my app from app store? (Copyright infringement)

  I just got an copyright infringement notice that says my app infringes on the usage policies of the services my app uses. However, this mail does not come directly from the company that runs the website I pull information from. The mail comes from a company that has some paid apps in the same category on the app store (mine is free), so they obviously want me gone. My question is, can I just ignore this mail until I hear directly from the company that runs the website? Judging from their (the company that contacted me) website, they have no connection what so ever to the company that I fetch information from.

• Alternatives to Google Sites for a personal web site?

  I'd like to find a hosting solution for my personal, fairly low-traffic, web site. I think Google Sites would suit me perfectly, but I've heard horror stories about Google's algorithms shutting down all your accounts on a whim, with no right of appeal, so I'm naturally worried, because I don't want to lose my Gmail. Edit I'm talking about cases like this one: I tried contacting somebody at Google support ("Surely they should have a support department, right?" Nope, wrong!) (The victim managed to regain access to his Gmail account when his case went "viral", but he never got an explanation as to why he had been locked out in the first place) Are there good, preferably free, alternatives to Google Sites and what are their PROs and CONs? One requirement is that I should be able to point the DNS (foobar.com) to it.
