• Extremely slow transfer speed ubuntu -> Windows

  I have two laptops, One is running Ubuntu 12.04 (EXT4) the other is running Windows 7 (NTFS). I am copying over 40gb of data (one file) from the Ubuntu laptop to the Windows Laptop. (Browse the shared folder on Ubuntu using Windows copy/paste) But I am getting transfer speeds topping out at ~700kb/s Surely this is not right. I am transferring via wifi on both laptops.   I have had a quick look but couldn't see anything related. Basically, if we were to accept payments for events on our website, via paypal (essentially a Buy it now! button), as a business, do we need a merchant's account, or will a regular bank account be acceptable? I may have some confusion in terms. My understanding is you need a merchant's account to accept credit card payments, but as we are using PayPal, is this necessary? • Best practices for including open source code from other public projects?

  If I use an existing open source project that is hosted for example on github within one of my projects, should I check in the code from the other project into my public repo or not? I have mixed feelings about this, #1 I want to give proper credit and attribution to the original developer, and if appropriate I will contribute back any changes I need to make. However given that I have developed / tested against a specific revision of the other projects code, that is the version that I want to distribute to users of my project. Here is the specific use case to illustrate my point. I am looking for a more generalized answer than this specific case. I am developing simple framework using rabbitmq and python for outbound messages that will allow for sending sms, twitter, email, and is extensible to support additional messaging buses as well. There is a project on github that will make the creation and sending of SMS messages developed by another person. • What options are there for integrating with payment gateways? [closed]

  It seems that there are only two types of payment gateway service out there at the moment; Either that the entire cart logic is handled offsite (with something like Paypal's Standard option) or the other option being that you need to go through the certification for handling credit card numbers and doing pretty much everything yourself. Ideally, for the project I'm working on, I'm after a bit of middle ground such that I can handle the cart on-site, and only pass over to a payment gateway (with an order amount, billing & delivery details, and order ref) for them to handle the card details, before passing back. I'm sure that I've used e-commerce sites using this pattern before, but I cannot find any payment providers out there that offer this sort of option, so are there any? The only over requirement we have at present is that it must accept orders in Sterling.

• Connect Lenovo W520 with TV using VGA output

  I am trying to connect my Lenovo Thinkpad W520 with my 32 inch TV (Samsung) using he VGA output.The problem is that after connecting it with the TV I go to System Settings and then Monitors but it doesn't show up there.I rebooted my system and again nothing happened.So I tried to change my default video card in the BIOS and I chose to boot with Intel's card only.Again though nothing happened.I didn't tried with my NVidia video card because last time I did that Ubuntu was completely destroyed after saving the configuration file through the NVidia's X Server Control Panel.My laptop has NVidia Optimus technology,but I can choose from the BIOS which video card I want to use.After running : lspci | grep VGA in terminal the results are: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09) (It shows only the Intel's video card because curently I have chose to boot using only Intel's video card.If I chose from the BIOS that I want to use the NVidia Optimus Technology and the option to let the system whether or not the Optimus technology is supported then both cards will show up in terminal after running lspci | grep VGA.)

Fading sprites in and out/rotating them Simple scrolling textures A distortion effect, very evident in the cape and hair of example 1. Swirling smoke effects, the light in example 1 and the green/purple glow in example 2. The first three elements are trivial, what I'd like to know is how the last two could be done. Can this even be done realtime in a game, or are they pre-rendered animations?

• Freezes if desktop effects is used.

  I have found that using desktop effects in Ubuntu versions later than 8.10 causes the desktop to freeze after a few seconds on my PC. the command lspci -nn gave the following 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2772] (rev 02) and with lspci -k I have 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) Kernel driver in use: i915 Kernel modules: i915 The intel graphics cards seems to have some performence issues with xorg driver. However I have not noticed any freeze in Ubuntu 8.10. There are some workarounds at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Bugs/Lucidi8xxFreezes to make them work. But I can't find out what workaround should I do with my graphics controller. I have tried workaround F but it did not help. can anyone help me find a workaround for my graphics card? and is it actually possible to use desktop effect in this graphics card ?

• Will Apple abandon OpenCL?

  I am developing OpenCL applications, amongst others for MacOS. The new Macbook pro 13 inch comes with an Intel HD Graphics 3000 card so it seams reasonable to assume all their mainstream computers like Macbook and Mac mini will also come out with this Intel graphics card soon. OpenCL is not available for Intel graphics cards. Intel having a terrible reputation in developing graphics drivers and Apple knowing this makes me wonder Apple is abandoning OpenCL already again. Especially considering OpenCL should run anywhere, not only on high end systems. Developing applications only for the high end Macs with dedicated graphics hardware or for previous generation hardware with the Geforce 320M would not be a feasible option for me. Does anybody have any thoughts on this?

  I recently installed Ubuntu 12.10 on my Dell Inspiron 7520. Everything is good except the hyperactive fans.The graphic cards are Intel and AMD Radeon 7730. I am trying to get away with the fan problem butI don't really know the terminal hence I am just trying to use the commands available on the forums.But this time I don't know what did I do that now I don't have the utility bar, launch bar and the basic features like the window minimize and maximize don't work. I have this impression I may have uninstalled some drivers . But still not sure what to do. Feel a need of dire help!

• What video graphic card would permit ubuntu's standard driver to work well?

  I installed ubuntu 12.04. All seemed well until I installed the nvidia driver. Then crashola! This situation is untenable. It seems I cannot trust nvidia, and it seems that I cannot rely on ubuntu gurus to test 3rd party drivers. So, apparently some video card manufacturers do not care enough about the linux market to test their drivers, or are there too many 3rd party video cards so that ubuntu folks do not test any 3rd party video drivers? Hence the question: What video graphic card would permit me to use ubuntu's standard driver so that I do not have to rely on nvidia's or any other 3rd-party driver? Perhaps I could then install THAT card and have things work? The ubuntu standard driver actually worked prior to installing the nvidia driver, but not well, and that was because the display flickered, and flickering gives me a headache.
