• API to lookup product information by UPC?

  Is there an API that allows lookup of product information by UPC? I know that Amazon has the Product Advertising API but don't think it can be used for any purpose other than sending traffic to amazon.com as per their license agreement here. Specifically, my application would not have the principal purpose of advertising and marketing the Amazon Site and driving sales of products and services on the Amazon Site Does such an API exist that I can do anything I want with the data? UPDATE I would want to use the API for my application, not create create such an API.

• Reading web-service information from assembly app.config file

  I have a plugin architecture solution written in .NET C# 3.5, where each plug-in is an assembly loaded by the main project. Each plug-in connects to a different web-service, so I would like to have the configuration of that plugin in its own plugin.dll.config file instead of having it in the app.config of the main project. I have been looking around and I saw that i could load from each class its own config file: // Get the application configuration file. System.Configuration.Configuration config = ConfigurationManager.OpenMappedExeConfiguration(fileMap,userLevel) I see how that would help me get the basic settings from the appSettings section, but I cant see a way to read the web-service information stored in the plugin.dll.config file. Any help on how to approach this situation is very welcome.

• [JavaScript] How can I load static configuration information

  In my code, I use JavaScript for UI and PHP for back end. I also use PHP to store application settings and sometimes my UI code needs to access this information. My configuration file looks something like this (config.php): $resolution_x = 1920; $resolution_y = 1080; etc... When I need to access any of these settings form JavaScript, i simply use to substitute the value directly, but it just doesn't strike me as very robust. Are they any dangers of doing this that I am not aware of? Is there a better way of doing this? Thank you,

• Getting Stored Procedure Information from .Net

  Hi, I am trying to get some data relevant to a stored procedure (or funtion) back from a database using .Net. The first thing I need to be able to do, is get the stored proc from the database and turn it into string format. The information I need is: The return set of columns, tables used within the SP, Stored Procedures called from the SP. The only way of doing this at the moment that i can think of, is though parsing the text and looking for keyword matches. Is there a better way of doing this? Any ideas? Thanks.

• Database design: How should I add an information which can apply to several tables

  I am constructing a database System using Mysql, this will be an application of about 20 tables. The system contains information on farmers, we work with organic certification and need to record a lot of info for that. In my system, there are related parent-child tables for farmers, producing years and fields/areas - it's a simple representation of the real world in which farmers farm crops on their fields. I now need to add several status flags for each one of these levels: a farmer can be certified, or his field can be, or the specific year can be; each of these flags has several states and can occur a number of times. The obvious solution to this would be to add a child table to every one of these tables, and define the states there. What I wonder if there is an easier way to do this to avoid getting to many tables? Where/how would be best practise to keep that data?

• Searching pgadmin db and grabbing information?

  I'm currently trying to write a script in RoR to go into my PGAdmin database and look at a list of users, THEN ignore users that have an image path but look at users who don't have one and then upload a link of a generic photo into their row. My database looks Something like this: id integer | name | email | image path | 12 Bob [email protected] www.faces.org 81 Sally [email protected] 114 Mark [email protected] www.faces.org How would I start grabbing those users, I only have 103 users right now, but I also need to think about scaling for the future. Here is a starting point. I know this is kind of vague but really all I need is just a starting point. to get into it.   If got a CustomCell loaded using: NSArray *nibObjects = [[NSBundle mainBundle] loadNibNamed:@"CustomCell" owner:nil options:nil]; I have no problems with the tableview but when I select a row I want display more information on that row(like facebook app)... using the typical "show more". At the beginning the row show "title" and "description". When I select that row i want to show "title", "description" and a webview... and, of course, make the row bigger to accommodate that objects. Maybe changing this CustomCell by another bigger CustomCell? I have no idea where to start. Thanks. Sorry for my english :S

  I using the FileWatcher Class to locate changes on Files in a specific Folder. I managed to detect Changes on Files but not detailed Information. On the WatcherChangeTypes Enumeration Page http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/t6xf43e0%28v=VS.100%29.aspx they write the Change Type detects the changes include: changes to size, attributes, security settings, last write, and last access time. Is there a way to detect which kind of change happened? • Using WPFPerf to profile a WPF 4.0 application doesn't show me any information

  I am trying to use WPFPerf to profile a WPF 4.0 application (I have the latest WPFPerf that should work on WPF 4.0 aps). I start the tool Visual Profiler from WPFPerf, I start my aplication, but after that nothing happens and the element tree from the Visual Profiler is empty. No other error message is shown. Can anyone tell me what am I not doint right? As an additional information, when I try to analize my .exe assembly or any other assembly from my application, I get a BadFormatException saying that the assembly was build with a newer version of .NET. From the download page http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=191420 I see that this version of WPFPerf should be ok for my app

  I am displaying a django widget, with which I need to display additional information (something like a tool tip) that is attendant to the widget. I essentially have a widget that asks a random question, which is self contained. {{ form.fieldname }} displays the full widget which looks something like (à la the widget's render method): <label for="id_answer">Question:</label> <input type="hidden" name="question_id" value="n" /> <span class="prompt">What is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?</span> <input type="text" name="answer" /> What I'm essentially asking is, is there a way to break out the prompt, so that I can lay the widget out piecemeal? I would like to lay it out not with a call to {{ form.fieldname }} as above, but like: {{ form.fieldname.label }} {{ form.fieldname.prompt }} {{ form.fieldname }} Does anyone know how to do this?

Coming from Rails, the only thing I've really been missing here is the dev-mode debug information shown after the page has been served. • WebSocket send extra information on connection

  Is there a way for a WebSocket client to send additional information on the initial connection to the WebSocket server? I'm asking because I want the client to send the user ID (string) to the server immediately. I don't want the client to send the user ID in the onopen callback. Why? Because it's faster and simpler. If the WebSocket API won't let you do this, why not? If there's no good reason, how could I suggest they add this simple feature?

  How can I obtain kerning information for GDI to then use in GetKerningPairs? The documentation states that The number of pairs in the lpkrnpair array. If the font has more than nNumPairs kerning pairs, the function returns an error. However, I do not know how many pairs to pass in, and I don't see a way to query for it. • Storing information in the DOM?

  Im making a small private message application in the form of a phone. Ten messages are shown at the time. And the list of messages are scrolled up/down by hiding them. Just how bad is it to use the DOM to store information in this way. My main goal for doing this is to reduce calls to the database. And instead of making a new call all the time, it only checks if any new messages has arrived and ads the new message(s). Whats the alternative, cookies anyone? Thank you for the time

  In window, i can get the date created of the video from properties(right click). I have a few idea on this but i dont know how to do it. 1. Get the video information directly from video(like in windows), 2. By extracting the video name to get the date created(The video's name is in date format, which is the time it created). And i also using taglib-sharp to get the video duration and resolution, but i cant find any sample code on how to get the video creation date.   What do the clever programmers here do to keep track of handy programming tricks and useful information they pick up over their many years of experience? Things like useful compiler arguments, IDE short-cuts, clever code snippets, etc. I sometimes find myself frustrated when looking up something that I used to know a year or two ago. My IE favourites probably represent a good chunk of the Internet in the late 1990s, so clearly that isn't effective (at least for me). Or am I just getting old? So.. what do you do?
