• PowerDNS: multiple supermasters and transfering domain

  Hi, I've got a setup with multiple supermasters (bind) and multiple superslaves (pdns). It all seems to work just fine, pdns is being updated when I'm adding or changing a domain. But, when I want to migrate a domain from one master to another, pdns doesn't like it. It tells me the new server isn't a master for this domain, although I deleted the domain on the old server. Now, I think that part of the problem is, that pdns doesn't get an update when a domain is deleted, which would also explain a lot of dead domains in my pdns. It looks like the slave is constantly polling a server and getting RCODE=5 back. The master isn't aware of the domain and the slave thinks the master still serves that domain. Anyone familiar with this problem?

Somehow IE fails to send the user's domain in the NTLM Type 1 message. This has the effect that the webapp can not match users properly to their domain controllers, resulting in failed logon attempts, because a user from domain X tries to authenticate to domain controller Y. This problem does not occur with Firefox, as it always sends the correct domain header. So: how do I get IE to send the domain in the NTLM header?

• Multiple test Active Directory envirovments hand in hand with production domain controllers

  What's the best approach of having multiple test environments next to production one? We have multiple programming teams that build solutions that use Active Directory very often. We have tried different approaches, starting with their own domain controllers (in same subnet), or additional OU's in our production AD that the team gets control over and can create/delete accounts within that one OU. We thought of possible 4 solutions: Setting up separate OU's in ou production env. Creating subdomains for our contoso.com domain like test.contoso.com, something.contoso.com and delegating control to the teams (would we need additional DC's or the two that we have already would be enough to hold this? Setting up additional test domain controler that has a trust to our main domain and all teams can use the test domain controler as they please. Setting up single domain controller for every team/project. We're taking in consideration amount of resources needed, security (for example having multiple domain controlers with multiple passwords may lead users to use simpler passwords) and overall best practices for this scenario.

• Problem with several USB devices on Windows XP. How to diagnose USB device?

  Hello All, Recently I've bought some electronic devices (like e.g. Sony Ebook reader PRS-600 or HP PDA IPaq) which are connected to PC using USB ports. These devices have own batteries and they are recharged using USB. However, I am experiencing a problem with Ebook Reader and the similiar thing happens with my PDA (but in this case it's more rare). Sometimes, I am unable to make it start recharging, when it's connected to USB port. The LCD diode on my Reader lights up and the icon in the system tray appears. They both indicate that the device has been connected. However, the device should start recharching and it should appear on Windows XP as a 'explorable' device (just like pendrive it offers some HDDs). None of these happens:( This problem appears on two PCs - desktop and laptop. Both have Windows XP SP3 installed. And what's interesting and surprising to me is the fact that these devices sometimes work without any problems. I mean, I just plug them in and they work properly. Besides that, there are some computers (I have tested a variety of possible conditions) on which the problem does not appear! I am confused and, on the other hand, determined to find out what is the real cause of such strange behavior. Maybe I'm wrong but I always assumed that I'm using deterministic machines, but the described situation makes me feel like I was dreaming:) And that's why I'm asking you here. Are there any tools that could help me diagnose USB ports? Or maybe anyone knows the solution? I have a lot experience with low level programming (mostly from the times of MS-DOS applications), but I'm not an expert when it comes to WinXP technology. If this was a problem with network connection, I would know what to do - I know how to track network traffic, but with USB ports I feel powerless. I have a feeling that the problem may lie in a way WinXP handles USB devices. Personally, I hate auto-discovery and P'n'P features available in Windows. I know that some of may suggest to move to Linux or other *Nix system. Unfortunately, I have to use WinXP in my professional life, so it's rather impossible. Besides that, I don't consider XP as a total disaster. Any help from you will be appreciated!

• Wallpaper in Windows 7 locked down by domain group policy?

  So I am in a situation where my wallpaper is locked to a specific image on my work computer via group policy. I can't change it via the Personalization settings since it is grayed out and says it has been set by the system administrator. Anyone know some local GPO and/or registry hackery I can do to override the domain's policy? I could probably get away with logging in under a local account for this, but I want that to be a last resort. Thanks in advance.

• Network location is not on the Domain

  I have a computer joined to the domain, but it doesn't view the network "location" as being part of the domain. I have tried removing and rejoining the domain and this doesn't help: Other computers in the same network don't have this problem. I have also tried several different icons, including both the train and the airplane which doesn't seem to make a difference. At least using nslookup, the server seems to have connectivity with the DCs in the same site. There also seem to be some errors that suggest a NULL domain: Computer: OR-WEB05.ds.stackexchange.com Description: NtpClient was unable to set a domain peer to use as a time source because of failure in establishing a trust relationship between this computer and the '' domain in order to securely synchronize time. NtpClient will try again in 3473457 minutes and double the reattempt interval thereafter. The error was: The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed. (0x800706FD)

• Help diagnosing Likewise Open Active Directory authentication problem

  I have two servers which were up until recently authenticating against the companies Active Directory Domain controller. I believe a recent change to the Active Directory administrator password caused the servers to stop authenticating against AD. I tried to add the servers back to the domain using the command: domainjoin-cli join example.com adusername this seemed to work without complaints, but when I try to login via ssh with my domain account, I get an invalid password error. When I run the command: lw-enum-users it prints all of the domain users, and looking up my own account, I see that it is valid and my password hasn't expired. • mod_rewrite not working for subdomain in Apache2

  Hi, I'm having some trouble with mod_rewrite. So I'm implementing it through .htaccess, and I can get it working on my main vhost, domain.com - what I want it to do is rewrite http:// domain.com to force it to https:// domain.com, which it does well. I want to have name-based vhosts for the one IP with the following redirects: (I'm breaking up domain names with a space because otherwise serverfault recognises them as links) http:// domain.com -- https:// domain.com http:// staging.domain.com -- https:// staging.domain.com http:// test.domain.com -- https:// test.domain.com http:// beta.domain.com -- https:// beta.domain.com domain.com redirects to https:// domain.com, but staging.domain.com doesn't, although I can access https:// staging.domain.com. The .htaccess is identical for both, just with the domain name different. It doesn't seem to do any rewriting at all for staging.domain.com, I've tested this by trying to get it to rewrite to www.google.com. I have a wildcard DNS record, *.domain.com which points to the domain IP. Is there a particular way I should have the virtualhosts configured to allow this? I keep reading in the Apache documentation that it doesn't support multiple SSL name-based vhosts. But I can access both https:// domain.com and https:// staging.domain.com just fine. Any thoughts?   I will do my best to try and explain this as it's strange and confusing to me. I posted a little while ago about a sustained spike in mysql queries on a VPS I had recently setup. It turned out to be a single post on a site I was developmenting. The post had over 30,000 spam comments! Since the site was one I was slowly building I hadn't configured the anti-spam comment software yet. I've since deleted the particular post which has given the server a break but the post's url keeps on getting hit. The frustrating thing is every hit is from a different IP. How do I even start to block/prevent this? Is this even something I need to worry about? Here are some more specific details about my setup, just to give some context: Ubuntu 8.10 server with ufw setup The site I'm building is in Drupal which now has Mollom setup for spam control. It wasn't configured before. The requests happen inconsistently. Sometimes it's every couple seconds and other times it's a an or so between hits. However it's been going on pretty much constantly like that for over a week.   I'm using my own domain from Namecheap, and another company for the mail hosting for my personal email. I configured my domain to forward *@mydomain.com to the account I was given in the mail hosting company. I can send and receive emails, but I'm wondering if the emails I send are being flagged as spam sometimes. I remember when I used my own mail server years ago, there were mechanisms for my domain to say "this mail server is allowed to send emails as [email protected]", like adding a TXT record or something. So the questions are: Is email forwarding enough? Will mail servers understand that the mail server is allowed to send emails on my behalf? Is there a testing mail server where I can send an email and be told whether it thinks it's spam?
