What kind of executable files can run on windows xp-7?
I know of PE, but I don't know if there are any others.
I'm also interested in knowing different kinds of interpretive executables, like a java program and such. Thanks.
I'd also like to know what extensions they use, like PE uses .exe and .dll.
Trying to adjust a cron job to run every 90 min. It was previously running every 20 min, which was a simple cron job:
*/20 * * * * whatever
To change it to every 90, it seems like I need to split it into 2 jobs, I've done this:
0 0,3,6,9 * * * whatever
30 1,4,7,10 * * * whatever
Is this right? The job doesn't seem to kick off.
Will doing "Run as administrator" on a .BAT file allow regsvr32 enough privlieges to register a DLL or OCX?
The .bat file contains:
regsvr32 -u SomeOCX.ocx
regsvr32 SomeOCX.ocx
Or, does the logged in user need to be an administrator?
I have an executable file "x" stored in a directory. I want to be able to execute program "x" by typing "x" from anywhere in terminal. Currently I have to be in the programs directory and type "./x" to run the program. How can I fix this?
Thanks in advance.
How is it possible to have an executable run automatically on startup? Is it possible by having a shortcut to the .exe in the startup folder in the All programs section of the start menu? If that is correct, what is the full directory of the start up folder? C:/
Hey anyone know How to set up Sun One Webserver 6.1 to run perl/cgi scripts for windows? I looked through their documentation. Can't seem to work for me :( . Thanks everyone for your time and help.
In Win 7, which of the following accounts would have the "Run as Administrator" option showing for executable files:

domain administrator group

I like the Linux-Mint 13 Mate Alt-F1 menu and the Alt-F2 run-dialog, but as soon as I installed Compiz those keys became non-functional.
Conpiz has a Gnome compaatibility settings panel which allows you to set these keys, but using that Compix settings panel did not make any diference (probably because Mate is not Gnome, strictly speaking)...
Is there some way to get those two shortcut keys back into acton with Compiz?
I am trying to install an application on a MAC 10.6.4, however i get an installation error that no java runtime environment.
However on the java website, the mac section indicates that MAC provides its own java and should use the software update software to get the latest java application. I have done this and gotten the latest java however I still get the same error no java run time
is there something am missing?
Hi all,

Is there any way to run a script to manually add a route to route table when connected to PPTP server?
I'm using Windows XP SP3
I have a web application that runs a program which needs X. I'm using xvfb to launch it; I want to run it as another user.
I could probably do sudo -u username -p password my command. However, I'm not feeling too good about storing the users password in plain text.
Is there a "smarter" way of doing this?
In simplest term here’s what I must do:
When user connects to a webpage (port 80) via their browser, the web server will run a customized-proprietary third party windows executable [located on the server]; then display and allow the user full control to that program (inside the browser).
Note: I cannot rewrite/redistribute that 3rd party desktop gui program.
I want to run script when my mac is idle (for example after 5 minutes or screen saver start time is also ok) and when I resume it from idle state.
I know that I can write daemon using NSDistributedNotificationCenter and com.apple.screenIsLocked and com.apple.screenIsUnlocked, but I hope that there is already solution without creating new daemon.
I need this to for example turn on/off speed limit for Transmission (as it is sometimes hard to work when hashing/downloading on full speed).
Hi.
I want to run some commands every time a user of an ubuntu 9.10 machine logs out or shuts down. What is the best way to do this? Every user uses gnome if that helps.
We are building a Rails application for a client that wants to run the app locally to be close to their data center for best performance.
I had assumed we would use a standard web host. What requirements should we demand of the client's infrastructure..all I can think of so far is remote access for developers and a Linux machine? We don't have server admin expertise so would need to contract this, I doubt the client has the expertise.
Does this sound like a recipe for disastor?!

I have a single ethernet run at home that I just added. I have a cable tester that tests for pin/pair crossover or miswired pines. The entire line tests green (all 4 LEDs light up green on the tester) but I can't get any PC to connect through the link. No link light on the ethernet connection.
Any simple tests/fixes, or do I rip out the wall sockets and do it again?

I need to run a (Tcl, or whatever) script on a remote Unix machine, from a (local) Windows command shell, and I want the stdout/stderr of the script to show up in the Windows CLI. The exit code would also be useful.
Is this possible using ssh (putty)? Or by any other means?
Thanks!
Hi
So basically I have IIS6 running a .net application, running on port 80. What I want is to insert php code in this application. I found on a forum someone suggesting to run Apache+php in front of the IIS server so, like this, the .net code will be interpreted by the IIS server and after that the result will be passed to Apache that will interpret the php code.
Is it possible?
If yes then how to configure the Apache server?
Thanks guys :)
I'm looking for an easy method to run N selected processes at the same time with one command. It should put all the output on my terminal and shut down all of them when I exit with ctrl+c. Is there any existing app that does this?
I'm thinking of some thing like exec_many 10 foo - it should keep 10 foos running and respawn any that dies.
I want to use jsmin to minify every js file in a directory, and js files in subfolders as well.

All,
I need to run a script everytime there is an incoming email message to a postfix email server. I have read the docs but I was wondering what would be the best approach to do this. Would anybody give me some hint or examples on how to do this. The postfix server is running under Ubuntu.
Thanks heaps for your help
