  • Fastest browser to run over a forwarded X11 session

    So far I have tried Firefox (latest and greatest) and Chrome (also latest and greatest), and while Chrome runs faster than Firefox over X11 from my CentOS server to my Windows 7 workstation, it's still pretty sluggish. What other GUI browsers are available for Linux that would [likely] run faster than Chrome? I've not tried Opera 11, but have had many issues with it under Windows and Mac OS X directly, so am waiting for a new version before going that route.

  • Error in eclipse on run android project

    I am trying to get a simple hello world android project working in eclipse using an android emulator. I have been using the examples on developer.android.com. I actually did have a hello world app working. I then modified it's xml files to have a text input field and a button as in the second example shows on that site. This failed to run on the emulator. I then went back and tried to create another simple hello world project, but it fails to run. The console says "Waiting for HOME ('android.process.acore') to be launched, but nothing happens or sometimes a messenger in the emulator says "unfortunately Android Wear has stopped". Below is a sample error filter on the log file. I find trying to debug this is something new to me and I am not sure the best way to go about it.     I have the following example of reading from a buffered reader: while ((inputLine = input.readLine()) != null) { System.out.println("I got a message from a client: " + inputLine); } The code in the loop println will be executed whenever something appears in the buffered reader (input in this case). In my case, if a client-application writes something to the socket, the code in the loop (in the server-application) will be executed. But I do not understand how it works. inputLine = input.readLine() waits until something appears in the buffered reader and when something appears there it returns true and the code in the loop is executed. But when null can be returned. There is another question. The above code was taken from a method which throws Exception and I use this code in the run method of the Thread. And when I try to put throws Exception before the run the compiler complains: overridden method does not throw exception. Without the throws exception I have another complain from the compiler: unreported exception. So, what can I do?

  • Problem with bluetooth on android 2.1 (samsung spica i5700) where pairing works but connection does

    I have a Samsung Spica i5700 which I already have updated to Android 2.1. I am using the phone with an application called Run.GPS (http://www.rungps.net). This application logs data such as GPS position, route, speed, bearing etc. It can also log heartrate provided the user has a Zephyr HxM bluetooth heart rate monitor ("HxM"), which I do have. I can pair the HxM to the phone through the standard bluetooth utility. I'm prompted for the PIN, which I enter and the device is shown as 'Paired but not connected'. In the Run.GPS application itself, I click on 'Connect Heartrate Monitor'. This times out after about 30 seconds and the error message is 'Could not connect to heartrate monitor. Please try other settings'. I used a friend's HTC Windows Mobile as a control device to see if the HxM works there. It does. The Run.GPS application automatically sets the baud rate (initially to 9600 IIRC, though the connection also worked with higher baud rates) and it is possible to choose between various COM ports as well as a .Net COM port. I did some testing on my Spica Android, to try to find out why the bluetooth connection doesn't work. Below are some log files that I connected over adb when I clicked on 'Connect to Heartrate Monitor' in the Run.GPS application. I would be interested in any tips (including if I'm posting to the wrong forum here ;-)) - whether or not it's possible to experiment with the baud rate in Android etc. I still don't know if the problem is with the Run.GPS application (I've posted already on the development forum there) or with Android 2.1. I checked out another application - Endomondo - which is also a sport tracking application which supports heartrate monitor only with the HxM. There, what looked like exactly the same error occurred - I clicked on 'Connect Zephyr HxM'. For a few seconds I was shown the 'Connecting...' status, but then it timed out into 'Not Connected'. I'm thus tending towards looking at Android for the problem.   • Apache Unclean shutdown of previous apache run

    I'm having problem with running Apache2.2 on my Vista machine. When I clean install Apache it works just fine, but after I installed PHP, I'm getting this error message in logs. [Fri Oct 23 21:29:02 2009] [warn] pid file C:/Dev/Apache2.2/logs/httpd.pid overwritten -- Unclean shutdown of previous Apache run? Apache service was stopped when installing PHP. I did only one shutdown before instalation via Apache Service Monitor. Deleting httpd.pid and starting again doesn't help. I even tried to lookup process with PID in that file, but there is no such process.

On my machine with X running I can start opemoffice in headless mode via soffice -accept="socket,port=8100;urp;" -headless This doesn't seem to work on a server with X not running. $ soffice -accept="socket,port=8100;urp;" -headless /usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice.bin X11 error: Can't open display: Set DISPLAY environment variable, use -display option or check permissions of your X-Server (See "man X" resp. "man xhost" for details) $ The error doesnt seem to make sense as well, as the point of specifying -headless was so that I do not need X, while this command seems to look for X.

    I'm using Virtualmin, and I have a command set up under Virtualmin Module Config Actions Upon Server and user creation Command to run after making changes to a server This command is designed to perform a few additional steps after the account is set up. However, the action is called every time the account is modified, and also gets called when the account is deleted. The actions it performs should only be done when the account is first created. How can my custom command know which action is being performed? Is there an environment variable which determines if the action is creation, alteration, or deletion?
