• MacBook 5,1 - cant change brightness on 12.04

  I'm a total newbie to Ubuntu and recently decided to give it a go on my early 2009 Alu MacBook. For about a week now I've been trying to get the brightness controls to work. I've tried the following: Brightness controls doesn't work on a MacBook Pro 5.5 (ubuntu 12.04 LTS) https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBookPro5-5/Precise#LCD None of it seems to work. Next option was to try the Nvidia-bl-dkms drivers, but aftert installing the Mactel PPA I just get this: Reading package lists... DoneBuilding dependency tree Reading state information... Done E: Unable to locate package nvidia-bl-dkms Any help would be much appreciated as my eyes are going to fall out soon with the brightness maxed out.

• My SSD stopped working as it ends up in blue death right after windows 7 launches, how can I reset it for new windows install?

  As I mentioned in the title my SSD suddenly started to fail as after launching Windows 7 it goes straight to completely idle and after a few minutes it goes to blue death and restarts. I have an another HD with a windows xp on it and it works fine and I can also see the SSD and can access everything on it. Windows 7 on the SSD does work in safe mode though yet I didn't manage to find out what causes the problem. Since I can sill access the files and save them to another HD I'm looking for the best way to wipe and reinstall Windows 7. I have yet failed to find an easy to follow (or even understand) guide, different sources on the internet recommend different ways of doing this. And some guides are just simply full of terms I have no clue about. It's an OCZ Vertex 2 120GB. I"d very much appreciate if someone could give me an advice on what I should do, preferably in a way so I could regain the best possible performance as well. it doesn't matter if I don't understand the science behind it as long as I can follow the steps.   This question might be more suited to math.stackexchange.com, but here goes: Their Version Reconciliation takes two parts-- first the exchange of digests, and then an exchange of updates. I'll first paraphrase the paper's description of each step. To exchange digests, two peers send one another a set of pairs-- (peer, max_version) for each peer in the network, and then each one responds with a set of deltas. The deltas look like: (peer, key, value, version), for all tuples for which peer's state maps the key to the given value and version, and the version number is greater than the maximum version number peer has seen. This seems to require that each node remember the state of each other node, and the highest version number and ID each node has seen. Question Why must we iterate through all peers to exchange information between p and q?

  SharePoint, WCF and Azure Trainings: more information SharePoint 2013 (foundation too), detects requests from mobile devices and automatically changes the uRL of the requested non mobile page to its mobile substitute. This logic is now built into SPRequestModule. The mobile view is pretty damned amazing. Even though the set of pages for mobile access is completely different, SharePoint has an entirely separate set of controls for the mobile pages. These are in the Microsoft.SharePoint.MobileControls namespace which inherit from Microsoft ASP.NET controls in the System.Web.UI.MobileControls namespace.   Hi I've spent hours trying all the suggestions listed on Forums on this problem all over the internet and I still can't get my wireless working. It's very discouraging because it might force me to go back to Windows which I hate. Can someone help? Perhaps I can give you some information to help identify what the issue is? b43 isn't coming up in my list of drivers...just Broadcom STA which doesn't work. • Print Problem: Page Squeezed in Half

  I've just managed to successfully set up my printer (Canon MX320) using the Printing app on Ubuntu 12.04. However the only 1 remaining problem is that each time I tried to print it will only print the file on the top half of the page only: meaning that for some reason, the printer "squeezes" the whole content of each page in the file to fit into the top half of the page only (so the proportion in the print-out is not correct vertically). This happens with every type of file I tried to print (Documents, Images, Web pages). I checked the Printing's setting & properties and couldn't find anything related to this issue yet and I've already made sure to set all the information correct (paper size, source etc.). The Print Preview always display correctly on the screen, but it's only the actual print-out that shows this problem. I also tried with several different types of papers (A4, photos etc.) but the result is always the same: the printer keeps putting the content in the top half of the paper only.

• Why is my Workspace switcher view skewed

  I have been using Workspace switcher in Ubuntu just fine but recently have encountered this problem. The windows in the switcher don't fill the screen. I must have pressed some combination of buttons somehow but can't find any information anywhere in regards to resizing them. As you can see in the screen shot it looks like a perspective view or something. http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/k553/lmt337/Screenshotfrom2012-07-04103519.png I should also add I have a dual monitor setup and nvidia graphics. • No sound in any web browser(s)

  Hello I recently tried to compile and update alsa from source via this guide http://www.stchman.com/alsa_update.html. Afterwards the sound in any web browser I open Firefox, Opera, Chrome, Chromium, Iron there is no sound on any pages. I went back through the script listed on the site and found where it had installed the drivers and deleted it and than re-installed alsa via synaptic. Though I still have no sound in my browser(s). All system sounds work as they are supposed to only web sounds don't work. Here is my alsabase.conf http://paste.ubuntu.com/1073135/ also a snapshot of alsamixer Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank You and let me know if any more information is required.

• Static IP breaks Network connection

  I am somewhat new to Linux. I am setting up a Web server and installed Ubuntu server 14.04 on an vSphere ESXi 5.5 host. I am connecting perfectly fine to the internet when using DHCP but when I apply my Static settings I loose the ability to connect to websites. Whats weird is I can Ping google.com but if I try wget gooogl.com it hangs at connecting to google.com (google.com):173.194.43.32:80 and I get "failed: connection refused" But if I am set to DHCP the connection resolves perfectly. • Activate swap by default

  I installed Ubuntu 11.04 Natty and I set a partition for swap about 900 MB. Afterthat, I installed Kubuntu 12.10 Quantal, repartitioned my hard disk so I had 2048 MB swap (replaced 900 MB swap partition). I ran Kubuntu, and it's ok. But after I ran Ubuntu 11.04 Natty, It didn't use that swap. But I can activate it with Gparted. Some additional information. When I installed Kubuntu Quantal. I make 256 MB partition (ext4 mount point in /boot) which replaced previous 256 MB partition (ext4 mount point in /boot) that I created when I installed Natty. Something wrong with my configuration?.

• Ad networks that will serve via HTTPS?

  I've built a website with 160K page views per month that serves every page over HTTPS. The recent FireSheep news will probably increase the adoption of "HTTPS everywhere" but it's been very hard to find ad networks and affiliates that will serve their content via HTTPS. I don't want to use these because I don't want my visitors to get "broken security" notification from their browsers (and of course, relevant ads would be a leak of private information). I'm tired of spending a ton of time signing up with ad networks and affiliates only to find out down the road that they don't support HTTPS (e.g. AdSense). Can anyone suggest any options or provide a pointer to a list of these somewhere?

• Network printer gets disabled occasionally

  I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 and have a HP-Laserjet-3005P network printer. Occasionally (perhaps related to rebooting) the printer, which is setup as the default printer, becomes disabled. After realizing that I'm not getting anything printed, I must then open printing preferences and click on "enabled". Then it prints happily until the next time that it becomes disabled... Any ideas why this is happening and/or how I could fix it? I know I'm giving very little information, I can't think of anything else to give...if there's something I should be providing, please let me know.

• I am new to game development, what do I need to know? [closed]

  I am unsure if this question is a duplicate, I hope it isn't. Are there any resources on the terminology when doing game development? Because, even if you tell me to learn some graphics API, how would I understand the things it does, if I am not well into the terminology(voxel,mesh,polygon,shading). What about the math that is involved in the game(geometry) or the concept of the gravity,collision detection in the game and their respective maths? I am very bad at math, never was good, because I have ADHD, but I won't give up just yet. I look at a game, and I see "textures", but how am I walking on them, how do they take substance so I don't fall off of them? And depth? This is what I need information about, not just a link to a library like SDL(which I have compiled under MinGW and MinGW-W64) and tell me to learn it and the cliché answer "start simple/small". I hope the question(s) are not too vague.

This information will be stored in a databse table (tbl_Color (HexTriplet,ColorName)) in my system Suppose I created a color with #5D8AA7 Hex Triplet. I need to get the nearest color available in the tbl_Color table. The expected anaser is "#5D8AA8 - Air Force Blue". This is because #5D8AA8 is the nearest color for #5D8AA7. Do we have any algorithm for finding the nearest color? How to write it using C# / Java? • Python GUI and MVC - get variable from other module

  I am trying to split my code in different layers: GUI, reading the GUI, creating input, calculating the model, interpreting data, creating view, sending the view to the GUI. I got the idea of the MVC and would like to try to build my program that way. But I'm a little confused about how to exchange information between those modules.
