    Does anyone have experience with configuring Cisco AnyConnect VPN? We have a problem with client DNS name resolution when connected over VPN. To me, it looks as if the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client intercepts DNS queries from the clients. Can someone confirm that the AnyConnect VPN client in fact does this (intercepts DNS traffic)? Where is this configured on the VPN server?     Looking at our performance figures on our existing VMware ESXi 4.1 host at the Datastore/Real-time performance data Write Latency Avg 14 ms Max 41 ms Read Latency Avg 4.5 ms Max 12 ms People don't seem to be complaining too much about it being slow with those numbers. But how much higher could they get before people found it to be a problem? We are reviewing our head office systems due to running low on storage space, and are tossing up between buying a 2nd VM host with DAS or buying some sort of NAS for SMB file shares in the near term and maybe running VMs from it in the longer term. Currently we have just under 40 staff at head office with 9 smaller branches spread across the country. Head office is runnning in an MS RDS session based environment with linux ERP and mail systems. In total 22 VMs on a single host with DAS made from a RAID 10 made of 6x 15k SAS disks.

With quoted-printable longer lines will be broken into more lines, ending each with a '=' until the real linebreak is reached. Conforms a mail to the standard, if it contains lines longer than 78 (or 998) characters but is encoded with quoted-printable? There are arguments, that this isn't compliant, because the receiving mail-client has longer lines after decoding the quoted-printable message.

    So I set up uTorrent to automatically download torrents from EZTV search-based RSS feeds. And it works splendidly. I just set feeds to download automatically, and didn't set up smart episode filters or anything else in the uTorrent itself. However, from time to time something happens to EZTV feeds which makes uTorrent re-download every single torrent in every feed. I'm looking for a workaround.

  • Windows Updates - Does Not Install, how can I remove it

    Everytime I shutdown my Windows XP, it comes up with the following screen which says "Turn Off with Installing Updates" (Of course, it also gives me an option as follows, "Click here to turn off without installing updates.") Now, when I do normal shutdown asking it to Install Updates and Turn it Off. It does not install the updates and every subsequent time I try to shut down the PC, it still comes with the prompt "Turn Off with Installing Updates". I managed to find out that this install was this "Installing Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 (KB955706) update 1 of 1 .... " Now, when I click on the Installing Updates icon (the yellow icon, that appears on the task bar near the clock), and Install it. It tries to install and it fails. Now, why is this install alone failing?   • What are the best practices for service accounts?

    We're running several services in our company using a shared domain account. Unfortunately, the credentials for this account are widely distributed and being used frequently for both service and non-service purposes. This has led to a situation where it is possible that the services will be temporarily down due to this shared account being locked. Obviously, this situation needs to change. The plan is to change the services to run under a new account, but I don't think this goes far enough, as that account is subject to the same locking policy. My questions is this: Should we be setting up the service accounts differently than other domain accounts, and if we do, how do we manage those accounts. Please keep in mind that we are running a 2003 domain, and upgrading the domain controller is not a viable solution in the near term.

  • Delayed startup of network icon (wi-fi)

    When my Windows 7 Starter netbook boots up and after everything is loaded, it takes about five minutes before the network icon near the clock becomes functional. When there's an available wi-fi signal (which automatically connects to my netbook as preconfigured) after the boot, my netbook seamlessly connects to it even if the network icon cannot be clicked or accessed. (The icon is shown to be loading for about five minutes.) During this time, when I go to Network and Sharing Center, it takes the same time to load. So even while the icon and the Center cannot be accessed, I can surf the Internet. When my netbook was still new, it didn't have this issue. How do I fix this?

  • How can I filter packets from a port monitor?

    I have some data going from Point A to Point B. I have a SPAN monitor set up to a monitoring device C. To recreate some real world scenarios, I want to filter out all traffic which is a certain type (H.323 VoIP Signaling Packets) so that C sees a subset of the information that is flowing from A to B. What would the easiest way to do this be? I assume I would need a computer with 2 NIC cards and some software to examine each packet and chuck out the H.323 VoIP packets? Thanks!

    I am trying to enforce maximum memory a program can consume on a Unix system. I thought ulimit -v should do the trick. If I change the arguments to my Java program as below: java -Xmx256m EatMem The program again works fine. While trying to give more memory than limited by ulimit like : java -Xmx800m EatMem results in expected error. Why the program fails to execute in the first case after setting ulimit ? I have tried the above test on Ubuntu 11.10 and 12.0.4 with Java 1.6 and Java 7

  • Tools to test multicast routing

    I am looking for a good simple tool that runs on a standard OS (Windows or Linux) that I can used to test that multicast is being passed properly by a router. I have been asked by a client to enable multicast routing on a Linux box acting as their router since their phone system requires multicast to for a few features. Since I am not physically near the client I don't really have the ability to experiment with the various methods for setting up multicast routing on Linux. I can setup a router at my desk that is identical to what is deployed on their network, but I don't know of any good simple tools that I can use to generate or listen for multicast traffic. The one mulicast tool I have found is mcast.exe tool which is part of the Windows 2000/2003 resource kit. From what I have read online it seems that mcast.exe does not work across a router, and only works on the local network, so that doesn't seem to be useful for me to test multicast routing. So what do tool(s) do you use to test that multicast routing is properly setup?

  • long access times and errors in iis application

    I am having an issue with an IIS application (details of environment at the end of the message). The web site works great most of the time and I cannot reproduce any error in our test system. On the live system however with on averare of 5-15 requests per second I have a problem with that some requests (about 0.05%) will take over 300 seconds to complete. The other requests complete withing 5-10 seconds. It seem like if all the errornous requests end up with a Timer_EntityBody error in the error log. I have never seen this as an end user but I guess that they will receive some kind of error message. I am trying to find out what can be causing this errornous behaviour. Any ideas are welcome. I have read something about that there can be an MTU issue if ICMP and MTU protocols are blocked in the firewall. Does that sound reasonable? I have also read about updating to IIS 7 should do the trick. Does it sound reasonable? I think that the problem has another cause but I have no idea of what. I have tried running hte perormance monitor, monitoring for database locks and active transaction counts. I can see some of these in the perfmon log for the MSSQL server (another machine) for example: Active transactions is sometimes peaking and sometimes for long periods Lock waits per seconds is sometimes peaking Transactions per second is sometimes peaking Page IO Latch wait is sometimes peaking Lock wait time (ms) is sometimes peaking But I cannot see that any of these correlate to the errors in the IIS error log. On the IIS server machine I can also see with perfmon that some values peak a few times during a day: Request execution time Avg disk queue length I can neither see that any of these correlate to the errors in the IIS error log.   • Our wi-fi at work is ridiculously slow, will adding more range extenders improve it?

    At work, we have two wireless networks (e.g., Work1 Work2); the Work2 is used downstairs and Work1 is used upstairs. However, both are notoriously slow. The connection is better when we are wired in, but unfortunately due to our building being very old and our company growing very fast, most employees are not seated near the walls where the ethernet cables are. I had Cox, our ISP, run a bandwidth utilization test and it doesn't seem like we are capping out on upstream/downstream, which leads me to believe that it's strictly an issue with the wireless networks (which were implemented before I got there). The wireless networks are both Apple Airport Extremes. Is there anything I can do to improve the situation for everyone? Speeds are extremely slow, and sometimes drops out.

  • Beeping Hard Disk - Seagate 250GB Momentus 5400.6

    I have been trying to repair a laptop that simply beeps instead of booting. After taking it apart I have now realised that it is the hard disk beeping. I know that may sound strange but I guarantee that is what it is! (Currently powered on it's own with a Sata Mains lead). The beeping is slightly faster than one per second there is a link to this recording. This recording was made resting the mic on the hard disk while it was sat on a table on it's own, there are no speakers anywhere near, the sound is coming from the hard disk. Does anyone know what this beep means? Is the hard drive just dead, or is it fixable and the data recoverable? Many thanks,
