• PHP preg_match Math Function

  I'm writing a script that will allow a user to input a string that is a math statement, to then be evaluated. I however have hit a roadblock. I cannot figure out how, using preg_match, to dissallow statements that have variables in them. Using this, $calc = create_function("", "return (" . $string . ");" ); $calc();, allows users to input a string that will be evaluated, but it crashes whenever something like echo 'foo'; is put in place of the variable $string.

  Hi guys, I am back in the field of programming for my Diploma-thesis now and stumbled over the following issue: I need to implement a thread-safe doubly-linked list for one thread writing the list at any position (delete, insert, mutate node data) and one to many threads traversing and reading the list. I am well aware that mutexes can be used to serialize access to the list, still I presume that a naive lock around any write operation will be less than optimal. I am wondering whether there are better variants. (I am well aware that 'optimal' has not much of a practical meaning as long as no exact measure/profiling are available but this is an academic thesis after all..) I am very gratefull for code-samples as well as references to academic granted these have at least a tiny bit of practical relevance. Thanks at lot

• How to Create a Virtual Windows Drive

  Hello, I'm trying to create a Windows Virtual Drive ( like c:\ ) to map a remote storage. The main purpose is to do it in a clear way to the user. Therefore the user wouldn't know that he is writing/reading from another site. I was searching for available products, and i find that FUSE is not an option in Windows and WebDAV maps directly the drive, and i would like to build a middle layer between windows and remote storage to implement some kind of services. Another alternatives exists, such as Dokan, that is very expensive, and System.IO.IsolatedStorage Namespace, that doesn't seem to explicity create a new Windows Drive. Probably pismo ( http://www.pismotechnic.com/ ) is the thing that mostly matches my requirements but I would know if there is another alternative, including some Windows ( C++ or .NET ) native API to do that.   What happens when I MPI_Send to a process that has finished? I am learning MPI, and writing a small sugar distribution-simulation in C. When the factories stop producing, those processes end. When warehouses run empty, they end. Can I somehow tell if the shop's order to a warehouse did not succeed(because the warehouse process has ended) by looking at the return value of MPI_Send? The documentation doesn't mention a specific error code for this situation, but that no error is returned for success. Can I do: if (MPI_Send(...)) { ... /* destination has ended */ ... } And disregard the error code? Thanks

  i am using hibernate criterion for fetching results. Here with i provided demo design of my persistence class. Class A{ private B b; } Class B{ private C c; } Class C{ private Long val; } assume these are the hibernate persistence classes i am not writing all annotations of mapping with database. now my problem is i want to retrieve results of Class A according to the value of Class C's val property. i tried to fetch it using, Criteria c = Restrictions.eq("b.c.val", value); List l = c.list; it shows could not resolve property. i searched and came to know criteria wont work up to this much depth. i don't want shift to HQL. any idea??

• C++ IDE for OSX

  When i was at university i wrote a lot of C++. I primarily used either Visual Studio (at the time it was version 6) or VIM (if i was on linux) as an editor to write my code. Since i have graduate and have been working primarily in web programming i have stopped writing C++. Since i graduated i have also bought myself and started using my Mac exclusively. I am now starting to get back to my C++ coding (just for fun) and would like an opinion on good IDE's for Mac. I am currently using xCode which seems kinda cool because it has everything built into it. Do any of you have any other IDE's that you would suggest that i give a shot or should i just stick to xCode?

  I'm having difficulties with output not being encoded even though I'm using raw or html_safe.   I'm writing code using Twisted, and having trouble coming up with a sensible variable name for my twisted internet deferred's. Here are my candidates: d : Too generic, too short, violates pylint rule C0103. def : Conflicts with function defintion builtin. defer : Conflicts with module twisted.internet.defer deferred : OK but pretty long cb : Still too short, violates pylint C0103, conflicts with many callback method names. cback : Too Weird? callback : Conflicts with method Deferred.callback() I'm looking for other suggestions. It seems like most of the Twisted example code uses "d" which is fine for simple invocations, but when you're passing Deferred's around to methods and storing them as member variables, it's really far too descriptive.

  I am working on web project. We are using flex as UI layer. My question is often we are writing core service layer separately from web/UI layer so we can reuse same services for different UI layer/technology. So practically is it possible to reuse same core layer services without any changes/addition in API with different kind of UI technologies/layers. For e.g. same core service layer with UI technology which supports synchronized request response (e.g. jsp etc.) and non synchronize or event driven UI technology (e.g Ajax, Flex, GWT etc.) or with multiple devices like (computers, mobiles, pdas etc.). Personally I feel its very tough to write core service layer without any knowledge of UI. Looking for thoughts from other people.

  I'm using the O_DIRECT flag to write to the disk directly from the user buffer. But as far as I understand, Linux doesn't guarantee that after this call, the data is written. It just writes directly from the user buffer to the physical device using DMA or anything else... Therefore, I don't understand if I can write to the user buffer after the call to 'write' function. I'm sure that example code will help to understand my question: char *user_buff = malloc(...); /* assume it is aligned as needed */ fd = open(..., O_DIRECT); write(fd, ...) memset(user_buff, 0, ...) Is the last line (memset) legal? Is writing to the user buffer valid that is maybe used by DMA to transfer data to the device?

Separate join tables Would it be wise to have 2 tables for this? Like: users_favorites - user_id - item_id users_blocked - user_id - item_id 2. single table users_marks (or so) - users_id - item_id - type (["fav", "blk"]) Both ways seem to have advantages. • Get the selected file in an Explorer window

  I'd like to know how, if possible, to get the path of the selected file in an open Windows Explorer window. If not, would it at least be possible to get the folder path of an open Windows Explorer window? The end reason I'm doing this, is a software tool I'm writing requires a user to select a file. I figure if they're already moving the file around with Windows Explorer and then start my tool up, it'd be good not to have to make them navigate to the folder again in the file open dialog box. My software would then be able to identify if it's got the right file extension and if so, just ask the user if they want to import that file. Thanks.

• Can I subscribe to window-docking events in windows 7 from C#

  Hi. I am wondering if it is possible to create an application that could receive a notification when any other application/window is docked with the new windows 7 docking feature (f.ex. Winkey + left arrow) The purpose of my application would be to set up custom rules for certain windows. So for example if I am using Chrome and I press the Win+LEFT keys, then my application would receive a notification, and would be able to say that the window should not resize to 50% of the screen, but should use 70%. I am not very familiar with writing windows applications (mostly do web), so any pointers at how this might be achieved are very welcome. Thanks.

  Hey everyone, I'm writing an android application that maintains a lot of "state" data...some of it I can save in the form of onSaveInstanceState but some of it is just to complex to save in memory. My problem is that sliding the phone open destroys/recreates the app, and I lose all my application state in the process. The same thing happens with the "back" button, but I overloaded that function on my way. Is there any way to overload the phone opening to prevent it from happening? Thanks in advance.

  I am new at selenium testing and am writing a bunch of tests for a webpage that relies heavily on javascript user interaction. At first I wrote a lot of assertions of the style If I press button A" then assert number of visible rows = x, assert checkboxes checked are such assert title = bar .... [20 more] and so on. Then I switched to checksumming the HTML using MD5: If I press button A" then assert md5(html) = 8548bccac94e35d9836f1fec0da8115c. And it made my life a whole lot easier... But is this a bad practice in any way?

  The question pretty much says it all. I have an app with an older component that doesn't work right if runtime themes are enabled. But if I don't enable them, the app always ends up messing with the virtual store. Thanks! Update: Using Mark's solution below, the application no longer writes to the Virtual Store. But, now it won't access a tdb file (Tiny Database file) that it needs. This tdb file is the same file that was being written to the Virtual store. Any ideas on how I can give it access to the tdb file and still prevent writing the Virtual Store?

• node.js storing gamestate, how?

  I'm writing a game in javascript, and to prevent cheating, i'm having the game be played on the server (it's a board game like a more complicated checkers). Since the game is fairly complex, I need to store the gamestate in order to validate client actions. Is it possible to store the gamestate in memory? Is that smart? Should I do that? If so, how? I don't know how that would work. I can also store in redis. And that sort of thing is pretty familiar to me and requires no explanation. But if I do store in redis, the problem is that on every single move, the game would need to get the data from redis and interpret and parse that data in order to recreate the gamestate from scratch. But since moves happen very frequently this seems very stupid to me. What should I do?

  I'm looking for a simple (OO?) approach to email creation and sending. Something like $e = Email->new(to => "test <[email protected]>", from => "from <[email protected]>"); $e->plain_text($plain_version); $e->html($html_version); $e->attach_file($some_file_object); I've found Email::MIME::CreateHTML, which looks great in almost every way, except that it does not seem to support file attachments. Also, I'm considering writing these emails to a database and having a cronjob send them at a later date. This means that I would need a $e->as_text() sub to return the entire email, including attachments, as raw text which I could stuff into the db. And so I would then need a way of sending the raw emails - what would be a good way of achieving this? Many thanks

Process.Start("blah.bat"); Normally, I would have something like that in windows application by writing the name of the file 'blah.bat' to Settings file in Properties. However, here I didn't find any Settings file and I added an app.config for the same purpose. I am not sure what to write here in app.config, that would lead to me to achieve similar thing as in windows forms. For eg: In windows forms. Process.Start(Properties.Settings.Default.BatchFile); where BatchFile is a string in settings file in Properties.

What I mean are the following functions: New document: if there are not saved changes in the current document, a dialog box opens ('Do you want to save changes to {0}?') with Yes/No/Cancel buttons. If Cancel is hit, the operation stops. Open document: same dialog box as at new document, and an Open dialog opens after Save document: if the current document hasn't been saved, a Save dialog opens Save as: you can imagine...
