    What exactly does setting the length on a column do in JPA? @Column(name = "middle_name", nullable = false, length = 32) public String getMiddleName() { return this.middleName; } I understand that you can use the annotations to generate the database schema based on the entity objects, but does length do any sort of check or truncation when persistence happens, or it solely used for schema creation? I also realize that JPA can sit on top of various implementations, the implementation I am concerned with in this case, is Hibernate.

    in OO programming, is there some conceptual pattern, ideas, about handling multiple errors? for example, i have a method that performs some checks and should return an error message for each error found ['name is too short', 'name contains invalid unicode sequences', 'name is too long'] now, should i use an array of exceptions (not thrown exceptions)? or something like this is better: class MyExceptionList extends Exception{ public Void addException(Exception e){} public Array getExceptions(){} } any theory behind this argument will be appreciated!     I have a BlockingQueue that's being used in a producer-consumer situation. I would like to decorate this queue so that every object that's taken from it is logged. I know what the straightforward implementation would look like: simply implement BlockingQueue and accept a BlockingQueue in the constructor to which all of the methods would delegate. Is there another way that I'm missing? A library perhaps? Something with a callback interface?

While trying to add an element in a concrete collection, this collection will use a method to determine if it can accept to store the element (and eventually that this element is not already in the collection).     Hi, i have a wcf service which runs perfectly on my dev machine (vs2010, target 3.5) but once deployed, it shows me the code behind of the service (actually the plain text of the .svc file) and not the normal service page: <%@ ServiceHost Language="C#" Debug="true" Service="SilverlightPoc.Web.FinanceData" CodeBehind="FinanceData.svc.cs" %> Anyone any idea why the .svc file is rendered as plain text and not as wcf service?
