• Determining if an Activity exists on the current device?

  Is there a way to check and see if an Activity exists on your device? If I have a youtube video link I want to specify it open in the YouTube PlayerActivity. However, I don't want to crash if for some reason they don't have it. Is there a way to check and see if the activity exists? I don't think I can catch the runtime exception since startActivity() doesn't throw it.

• Bind an event handler to multiple elements jQuery?

  Hello all. I've done some experimenting, but can't seem to successfully bind one event handler to multiple elements using jQuery. Here's what I've tried: $('selector1', 'selector2').bind('click', function() { $('someSelector').removeClass('coolClass'); }); I've tested all my selectors, and they are all valid. Is what I'm trying to do even possible? If so, can I do it with .live() as well? Thanks!

I'm current using the Adobe Flash ActiveX control to stream the videos from the various sites. IS there a way to record the stream? Whether it be with Flash ActiveX or another framework/control that you may know of.

• drag drop no longer working once application gets installed.

  I have an application that has drag and drop functionality to import images and video's. While developing, and testing through Visual Studio this has never given any problems. After installing through a set up project, everything in the application works fine, except the drag and drop, which seems to be doing nothing. Are there any security settings that need to be set through an installer, or something of that nature that could be preventing drag and drop after installation ?

• Undefined namespace prefix in Nokogiri and XPath

  I am trying to parse Youtube Gdata to see if video with given id exists. But there isn't normal tag but with namespace. On the link http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/videos?q=KgfdlZuVz7I there is tag: <openSearch:totalResults>1</openSearch:totalResults> There is namespace openSearch: xmlns:openSearch='http://a9.com/-/spec/opensearchrss/1.0/' but I dont know how to deal with it in Nokogiri and Ruby.   I just watched this video from Apple that shows multi-tasking on the new iPhone (running iOS 4.0). What are the implications of multi-tasking to developers? Include both positives and negatives. For example what happens if the user decides to launch two resource-intensives apps at the same time, one of the apps crashes and progress in a game (for example) is lost. Should developers be considering this when writing apps for the new OS and phone?

• Windows MAchine Debugging

  I've been learning how to program for Windows for some time now and am getting pretty comfy with COM. I had thought to go over to Linux and do some C++ programming there and I wished to run Rosetta Commons so I installed Fedora. I had tried installing Ubuntu a few months ago and things got messy. I had a glitch, maybe caused by one of the live cd creators, my video card or something I don't know. Who Crashed suggested it was my video card and I had regular messages about ntfs.sys and page file issues. At any rate I just installed Fedora and the same thing is happening again. I would like to think with the twenty five years of doing this that I might finally make some headway into debugging my system. I think I may have overlooked a lot of what could be done in favor of simply uninstalling, reinstalling and formatting and starting from scratch. I have opened up the folder windows debugging tools, quite accidentally and just before I was going to clean sweep again, and I found KD and WinDbg. I had never seen these before and I felt that maybe I should look into this. I am quite familiar with the modern machine that is known as the computer, I know what a Kernel is and am now pretty familiar with at the very least Windows Operating System Services. I wish to begin tracking my own machines errors. I understand that most kernel debugging is done on a second machine but I don't have one. And also I understand the goal of the debugger seems to be less about run of the mill errors and more about development time strategies but I'm sure there is more to this. This is my first go at this and I thought maybe I could get some suggestions on where to go from here. I would really like to learn ways to fix my machine and also maybe pick up some tricks on the dev side as well. I hope this isn't too broad a question or too generalized. I'm really just looking for the keywords and an overview of the more routine strategies used. thx

  Hi, I have this regex for getting the YouTube video ID: (?<=v=)[a-zA-Z0-9-]+(?=&)|(?<=[0-9]/)[^&\n]+|(?<=v=)[^&\n]+ I get it from there: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2597080/regex-to-parse-youtube-yid The problem is I get preg_match() Unknown modifier '[' warning. I know I have to enclose the regex delimiters but I have no idea how to do this. Any help?

• Should I use Java for a custom Swing component designed for a clojure app?

  I want a simple timeline component (like in video editing software) for a clojure/seesaw app and I am wondering if it is a good approach to implement this directly with clojure and seesaw or if I should write it in java and make my clojure wrapper around it. Or more generally: is a functional programming language optimal for writing UI widgets? I cannot imagine doing that without a lot of state involved. And wasn't OO invented for UI-development in the first place?

  Using the local dev server, I can use ';' in urls, but as soon as I try the live version hosted by Google, it looks like the ';' and everything afterward is stripped (at least according to request.path_qs). (I would prefer not to encode them if possible, it's much less user friendly if the url cannot be constructed by copy-pasting, especially since other characters works fine, e.g. ':').

  I'm not really understanding the interaction/differences between settings and config files. If I add an entry to the settings file, it gets added to the app.config as well. Does this mean that changing the value in the app.config will update the settings? If not, how do I update settings in a live application? What's the general purpose of using a settings file instead of putting things directly in app.config?

• Chrome not displaying a div

  I know that the static objects in .Net managed world are loaded in Loader Heap which is never going to be garbage collected. What happens to the instance reference parameters passed to a static methods. Are they get garbage collected once the static function executed completely Or they are going to live forever as those instance reference variables are once passed to static method?   I have 2 input textboxes that take a host or IP. When the user leaves an input box an event is fired that checks the input to see if it is actually a live computer. The results are then put into the appropriate label. My question is, should I be using separate events for each input box, since they update different labels? Or, can I use 1 event and check who the caller was, then update the appropriate label?

• Do I need to perform a commit after a rebase?

  I've just rebased a feature branch onto another feature branch (in preparation for rebasing everything to the head of my master), and it involved quite a few tricky merge resolutions. Is the rebase automatically saved as a commit somewhere? Just where do those modifications live? I can't see anything in gitk, or git log --oneline. (Same question for when I merge back my branch after rebasing.)

• Mutiple FK columns all pointing to the same parent table - a good idea?

  For those of you who live and breath database design, have you ever found compelling reasons to have multiple FK's in a table that all point to the same parent table? We recently had to deal with a situation where we had a table that contained six columns which were all FK columns to the same parent table. We're debating whether this indicates a poor design on our part or whether this is more common than we think. Thanks very much.
