  Hi, I need to call a function from a python script and pass in parameters into it. I have a test python script which I can call and run from java using Jepp - this then adds the person. Eg Test.py import Finding from Finding import * f = Finding() f.addFinding("John", "Doe", 27) Within my Finding class I have addFinding(firstname, lastName, age) However, I wish to be able to do this from within java. Should I be using the jep.invoke() method. Does anyone have a hello world example of such a thing being done or forward me to some good examples? Does anyone have any suggestions please? • Dojo slider: update value dynamically

  I am building an application where the user browses certain objects by scrolling and zooming. To change the zoom level I have successfully implemented a "dijit.form.HorizontalSlider" object. Every time the user changes the position of the silder, I can catch the "onChange" call and do something with that. However, the user can also zoom-in by double clicking inside the view zone, at which point the slider should change position automatically to reflect the new zoom level. My question is the following: what function or method should I call in my javascript to update the position of a dojo silder ?   I'm working on a project using Visual Studio 2008 and have moved from the the MVC 2 Preview to RTM version. I have a suspicion that it might be something to do with the version of System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations.dll that we are referencing, currently version 99.0.0.0, which seems rather odd. Does anyone know what version of this dll is included with the MVC 2 RTM for Visual Studio 2008?

• Best way to get an Application Context into a static method in Android

  I'm working on an Android application that has several Activities. In it I have a class with several static methods. I would like to be able to call these methods from the different Activities. I'm using the static methods to load data from an xml file via a XmlResourceParser. To create a XmlResourceParser requires a call on the Application Context. So my question is, what is the best way to get a reference to the Application Context into the static methods? Have each Activity get it and pass it in? Store it somehow in a global variable?

  I'm in linker paradise now. I have a C library which only compiles in Visual C++ (it probably works in gcc) if: I compile it as C++ code Define __cplusplus which results in all the declarations being enclosed in extern "C" { } So, by doing this I have a static library called, say, bsbs.lib Now, I have a C++ project called Tester which would like to call function barbar in declared in bsbs.h. All goes fine, until I try to link to bsbs.lib where I get the all-too-familiar: Tester.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _foofoo And it always seems to be foofoo which cannot be resolved regardless of which function I call in Tester (barbar or anything else).

Function pointer isn't suppose to be dereferenced in that way. Instead, it is called. I would use a name "dereference" side by side with "call". It's OK. Anyway: C is designed in such a way that both function name identifier as well as variable holding function's pointer mean the same: address to CODE memory. And it allows to jump to that memory by using call () syntax either on an identifier or variable. How exactly does dereferencing of a function pointer work?

• C++ Windows IOCP - HTTP POST data missing

  I have written a very simple IOCP HTTP server that works for the GET verb, but not POST. I create a socket and a listen thread in which accept() is waiting for a connection. When a client connects I call ioctlsocket() to unblock the socket then I associate the socket with IOCP and finally call WSARecv() to read the data. Some data is indeed read and when that has happened, IOCP wakes up a worker thread via GetQueuedCompletionStatus() and I recover the request data. I only ever get the request header when I POST from any browser. Any suggestions as to why? I am assuming the IOCP completes when ALL the data has arrived from TCP?

• ActionScript 2.0 problem with the object's _visible parameter

  Hey guys, I've been trying to build something simple in Flash 8, and I stumbled across something weird I cannot explain: I have an object, and at some point of the program, I want it to be visible (it is invisible at first), so I write: _root.myObj._visible = true; _root.gameOver.swapDepths(_root.getNextHighestDepth()); //so it will be on the top and this works fine, the object becomes visible and etc. What I planned to happen next is that the user presses a button on that same object, and the object will go invisible: on(release) { trace(_root.myObj._visible); _root.myObj._visible = false; trace(_root.myObj._visible); _root.gotoAndPlay("three"); } The trace returns at first true and later on false, so the command works, but oddly the object stays visible, that's what I don't understand. • Are there known problems with >= and <= and the eval function in JS?

  I am currently writing a JS rules engine which at one point needs to evaluate boolean expressions using the eval() function. Firstly I construct an equation as such: var equation = "relation.relatedTrigger.previousValue" + " " + relation.operator + " " + "relation.value"; relation.relatedTrigger.previousValue is the value I want to compare. relation.operator is the operator (either "==", "!=", <=, "<", "", ="). relation.value is the value I want to compare with. I then simply pass this string to the eval function and it returns true or false as such: return eval(equation); This works absolutely fine (with words and numbers) or all of the operators except for = and <=. E.g. When evaluating the equation: relation.relatedTrigger.previousValue <= 100 It returns true when previousValue = 0,1,10,100 & all negative numbers but false for everything in between. I would greatly appreciate the help of anyone to either answer my question or to help me find an alternative solution. Regards, Augier. P.S. I don't need a speech on the insecurities of the eval() function. A naive implementation would be commands like: echo My message >>/my/custom/path/to/my_script.log But this probably has many disadvantages (no log rotation for example). I could use the 'logger' command, but it does not support logs in custom paths as far as I know and is not easy to configure if you have lots of bash scripts that could use a custom log file. In a scripting language like Ruby all this is quite easy: https://github.com/rudionrails/yell/wiki/101-the-datefile-adapter I could also make my own logger command based on this ruby library and call it from my bash scripts, but I guess there is already a well known solution that provides similar behavior for shell scripts?

• JQuery validation not working for checkbox group

  I'm having trouble getting JQuery validation to work with a set of checkboxes. I'm generating the checkboxes using an ASP.NET checkboxlist, and I've used JQuery to set the 'name' attribute to the same thing for each checkbox in the list. Here's the code that gets written to the browser. I'm setting the 'validate' attribute on the 1st checkbox to set the rule that at least one checkbox must be selected. The JQuery validation works for all other elements on the form, but not for the checkbox list. • Passing Auth to API calls with Web Service References

  I am new to web services. The last time I dealt with SOAP was when I created a bunch of wrapper classes that sent requests and received responses back per some response objects/classes I had created. So I had an object to send certain API requests and likewise a set of objects to hold the response back as an object so I could utilize that 3rd party API. Then someone came to me and said why not just use the wsdl and a web service. Ok, so today I went and created a "Service Reference". I see that this is what's called a "Proxy Class". You just instantiate an instance of this and then walla you have access to all the methods from the wsdl. But this leaves me with auth questions. Back when I created my own classes manually, I had a class which exposed properties that I would set then access for things like signature, username, password that got sent along with the Http request that were required by whatever 3rd party API I was using to make API calls. But then with using a Service Reference, how then would I pass this information just like I had done in my custom classes? For instance I'm going to be working with the PayPal API. It requires you to send a signature and a few other pieces of information like username and password. // Determins if API call needs to use a session based URI string requestURI = UseAuthURI == true ? _requestURIAuthBased + aSessionID : _requestURI; byte[] data = XmlUtil.DocumentToBytes(doc); // Create the atual Request instance HttpWebRequest request = CreateWebRequest(requestURI, data.Length); So how do I pass username, password, signature, etc. when using web service references for each method call? Is it as simple as specifying it as a param to the method or do you use the .Credentials and .URL methods of your proxy class object? It seems to me Credentials means windows credentials but I could be wrong. Is it limited to that or can you use that to specify those required header values that PayPal expects with each method call/API request?

  How can I compile third party libraries with the android NDK? I am compiling a wrapper which implements the JNI functions as a shared lib, which depends on another 3rd party lib (HTK). I don't know how to setup the makefile. The following does not work: LOCAL_PATH := $(call my-dir) include $(CLEAR_VARS) include HTKLib/Android.mk LOCAL_PATH := $(call my-dir) include $(CLEAR_VARS) LOCAL_MODULE := gaitfuncs LOCAL_SRC_FILES := gaitfuncs.c %LOCAL_LDLIBS := -L$(SYSROOT)/usr/lib -llog include $(BUILD_SHARED_LIBRARY) The second makefile should then build a static lib which my shared lib links to. How can I include this subdir makefile properly? Is this the correct way of doing it? And as a bonus: Are there wildcards for the LOCAL_SRC_FILES variable to take all files ending in .c for example. Thank you. Edit: I renamed the DLL to its original sqlite3.dll and updated the source to reflect this (originally renamed it because that's how it was called in a sample I found). • Why can't I retrieve the entities I've just persisted?

  I've got this web service that basically queries the database and returns all persisted entities. For testing purposes, I've created a TestDataManager that persists 2 example entities after Spring context is loaded (BTW, I'm using JAX-WS, Spring, Hibernate and HSQLDB). I should have 2 entities in the DB by now. Afterwards, I invoke the endpoint by a SOAP client, and the request goes all the way up to the DAO. The Hibernate invocation does not raise any exception, but the returned list is empty. The odd thing is, in TestDataManager, if I switch from sf.openSession() to sf.getCurrentSession(), I get an error message: "No Hibernate Session bound to thread, and configuration does not allow creation of non-transactional one here". What I am doing wrong here? Why is the query "not seeing" the persisted entities? Why do I need to invoke sf.openSession() on TestDataManager although it's annotated with @Transactional? I have done some tests with hibernate.current_session_context_class=thread in application.xml, but then I just switch problems in each class. I'd like not needing to manually invoke sf.openSession() and leave that for Hibernate to take care. Thanks a lot for any help!
