  • adding tabbar to uiview (not tabbarcontroller) to switch views

    - by Pavan
    Hi, i added a Tab bar to my existing view called secondViewController where there are now 4 tab bar items using interface builder. This tab bar will allow the users to switch between views. This is what ive tried to do: If i use a tabbar controller, then a new view pops up and i dont want that. i simply want to be able to add a tab bar as ive done and carry on from there. i dont know how to actually connect it all up and make everything work together. This is what i understand: i have to make my current - secondViewController an tabbardelegate which is what ive done as shown @interface paddedDholViewController : UIViewController <AVAudioPlayerDelegate, UITabBarDelegate> { } then i understand that i have to add tabBar.delegate = self; for me to be able to detect the tabBar:didSelectItem: so i can then implement something like this - (void)tabBarController:(UITabBarController *)tabBarController didSelectViewController:(UIViewController *)viewController { if ([viewController.tabBarItem.title isEqualToString:@"FIRST"]) { NSLog(@"FIRST"); } else if ([viewController.tabBarItem.title isEqualToString:@"SECOND"]) { NSLog(@"SECOND"); } } to be able to switch between the views The thing is as ive said before i dont know how to implement all of this and how to connect everything up. can someone help me please. Thank you in advance

  • How to resize image to fit UITableView cell?

    - by stefanB
    How to fit UIImage into the cell of UITableView, UITableViewCell (?). Do you addSubview to cell or is there a way to resize cell.image or the UIImage before it is assigned to cell.image ? I want to keep the cell size default (whatever it is when you init with zero rectangle) and would like to add icon like pictures to each entry. Images are slightly bigger than the cell size (table row size). I think the code looks like this (from top of my head): UIImage * image = [[UIImage alloc] imageWithName:@"bart.jpg"]; cell = ... dequeue cell in UITableView data source (UITableViewController ...) cell.text = @"bart"; cell.image = image; What do I need to do to resize the image to fit the cell size? I've seen something like: UIImageView * iview = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:image]; iview.frame = CGRectMake(...); // or something similar [cell.contentView addSubview:iview] The above will add image to cell and I can calculate the size to fit it, however: I'm not sure if there is a better way, isn't it too much overhead to add UIImageView just to resize the cell.image ? Now my label (cell.text) needs to be moved as it is obscured by image, I've seen a solution where you just add the text as a label: Example: UILabel * text = [[UILable alloc] init]; text.text = @"bart"; [cell.contentView addSubview:iview]; [cell.contentView addSubview:label]; // not sure if this will position the text next to the label // edited original example had [cell addSubview:label], maybe that's the problem Could someone point me in correct direction? EDIT: Doh [cell.contentview addSubview:view] not [cell addSubview:view] maybe I'm supposed to look at this: - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { UITableViewCell *cell = ...; CGRect frame = cell.contentView.bounds; UILabel *myLabel = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:frame]; myLabel.text = ...; [cell.contentView addSubview:myLabel]; [myLabel release]; }

  • UiTextField events

    - by Mike
    When I create UITextField inside Interface Builder, I can access Events tab for it, which has events like Value changed, Touch cancel, Touch drag, etc. I can assign my own methods to every of those events. How can I do the same, when I create UITextField programmatically with alloc?

  • bigger UITableViewCellStyleValue1 detailTextLabel

    - by Ziga Kranjec
    I am trying to make a UITableView. Table cells are done in style UITableViewCellStyleValue1. When text in either textLabel or detailTextLabel is too long, it gets shortened with ellipsis... This happens for both labels; the problem really occurs, when both labels are too long. What is a preferred way to disable this or make detailTextLabel slightly wider? I want detailTextLabel to always show the entire label (it will be max 6 chars long, so it will fit); textLabel is fine as it is.

  • Striping Rows of a UITableView

    - by Dan Brown
    Hello, I've read posts here on SO about striping a UITableView's cells, but have not been able to work out the details. My code is: - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { // Setup code omitted cell.textLabel.text = @"Blah Blah"; cell.detailTextLabel.text = @"Blah blah blah"; cell.accessoryType = UITableViewCellAccessoryDisclosureIndicator; if ([indexPath row] % 2 == 1) { cell.contentView.backgroundColor = [UIColor colorWithRed:0.9 green:0.9 blue:0.9 alpha:1.0]; cell.textLabel.backgroundColor = [UIColor colorWithRed:0.9 green:0.9 blue:0.9 alpha:0.0]; cell.detailTextLabel.backgroundColor = [UIColor colorWithRed:0.9 green:0.9 blue:0.9 alpha:1.0]; cell.accessoryView.backgroundColor = [UIColor colorWithRed:0.9 green:0.9 blue:0.9 alpha:1.0]; } return cell; } And my result is: Any ideas why this is happening? Thanks!

  • Correctly assigning value to a Core Data attribute with an integer data-type

    - by Gordon Fontenot
    I'm missing something here, and feeling like an idiot about it. I'm using a UIPickerView in my app, and I need to assign the row number to a 32-bit integer attribute for a Core Data object. To do this, I am using this method: -(void)pickerView:(UIPickerView *)pickerView didSelectRow:(NSInteger)row inComponent:(NSInteger)component { object.integerValue = row; } This is giving me a warning: warning: passing argument 1 of 'setIntegerValue:' makes pointer from integer without a cast What am I mixing up here? --Edit 1-- Ok, so I can get rid of the warning by changing the method to do the following: NSNumber *number = [NSNumber numberWithInteger:row]; object.integerValue = rating; However, I still get a value of 0 for object.integerValue if I use NSLog to print it out. object.integerValue has a max value of 5, so I print out number instead, and then I'm getting a number above 62,000,000. Which doesn't seem right to me, since there are 5 rows. If I NSLog the row variable, I get a number between 0 and 5. So why do I end up with a completely different number after casting the number to NSNumber? --Edit 2-- Ok, so I'm realizing that there is some fundamental idea that I don't understand. I now understand that the 60 million + number can be cast back to the correct 0-5 number by using integerValue. So, it seems my question is how can I save an integer between 0-5 to the attribute if the NSNumber that is returned is over 60 million? Do I need to be using a different data type?

  • Drawing and Animating with UIView or CALayer?

    - by Markus
    hello, i am trying to implement a graph which a uiview draws. There are 3 UIViews to animate a left/right slide. The problem is, that i can't cancel the UIView animation. So I replaced the UIViews by CALayer. Now, the question is if CALayer is appicable for this? Is it normal to draw on a CALayer like this? And why is a CALayer so slow when I manipulate the frame properties. CGRect frame = curve.frame; frame.origin.x -= diffX; [curve setFrame:frame]; Is there a alternativ? P.S. I am a german guy. Sorry for mistakes.

  • iOS5: Confusion with loadview and init and instance variables

    - by user743550
    I'm new to iOS5 and storyboarding. I noticed that if I declare an instance variables inside my viewcontroller .h file and set the values inside my init of .m file of my viewcontroller, whe the view of the viewcontroller is displayed, my instance variables show null inside viewDidLoad. In order for me to get myvariables, I'd need to do [self init] inside viewDidLoad. My questions are: @interface tableViewController : UITableViewController { NSMutableArray *myvariable; } @end @implementation tableViewController -(id)init { myvariable = [[NSMutableArray alloc]initWithObjects:@"Hi2",@"Yo2",@"whatsup2", nil]; } - (void)viewDidLoad { NSLog(@"%@",myvariable); // DISPLAYS NULL [super viewDidLoad]; } Why isn't my variables available in viewdidLoad when I declared and implemented in my .h and .m files? If that's the case, is viewDidLoad or viewWillAppear the common places to load the data for the viewcontroller? It looks like even if you instantiate a viewcontroller, the init function gets called but the viewDidLoad doesn't necessarily have the variables to be displayed. Where's the right place/methods to load the model(data) for my viewcontroller? Thanks in advance

  • UIAlertView Dismiss Not Really Dismissed

    - by Jim Bonner
    Below is the code I'm using to do a retry on an FBConnect session. When the [self loginToFaceBook] fires FBConnect adds a subview to 'window' which is still the UIAlert view, so when the UIAlert really dismisses it takes the FBConnect view with it. Any idea as to the best way to wait for the UIAlert view to be gone. -(void)alertView:(UIAlertView *)alertView didDismissWithButtonIndex:(NSInteger)buttonIndex { if([self respondsToSelector:@selector(alertContinue)]) { [self alertContinue]; } } -(void)alertContinue { SocialLiteAppDelegate *appDelegate = (SocialLiteAppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; [appDelegate.fbSession logout]; [self loginToFaceBook]; }

  • Subview appears behind tableview

    - by Banjer
    When I add a subview to my UITableViewController, it seems to be underneath the tableview. I may be loading my subview incorrectly, or calling addSubview in the wrong place. The subview I'm referring to is the red area above the tabbar that also contains the "Click me" button: You can see that the cell lines kind of overlap. Here is where I'm adding the subview in my TableViewController: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; CGRect hRect = CGRectMake(0, 170, 320, 480); HomeScreenOverlayView *homeView = [[HomeScreenOverlayView alloc] initWithFrame:hRect]; [self.tableView addSubview:homeView]; [homeView release]; } Any ideas? Thanks!

  • How to not persist NSManagedObjects retrieved from NSManagedObjectContext

    - by RickiG
    Hi I parse an xml file containing books, for each new node I go: Book *book = (Book*)[NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"Book" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; To obtain an NSManagedObject of my Core Data Book Entity, I then proceed to populate the managed Book object with data, add it to an array, rinse, repeat. When I am done, I present the list of books to the user. I have not yet executed the save: NSError *error; if (![managedObjectContext save:&error]) { NSLog(@"%@", [error domain]); } The user now selects one of the books, this one I would like to persist, but only this one, all the other books are of no interest to me any more. The Book Entity does not have/or is part of any relationships. It is just a "single" Entity. If I pull the "save lever" every Book object will be persisted and I will have to delete everything but my desired one. How would I get around this challenge, I can't really seem to find that particular use-case in the Core Data Programming Guide, which sort of also bugs me a bit, am I going against best practice here? Thanks for any help given.

  • Setting width of UISegmentedControl after removing a segment

    - by David Foster
    I have a UISegmentedControl of width 280. In code, I need to remove the third segment, set the UISegmentedControl's width to 200 and then re-centralise. By configuring the springs and struts in IB, I have set the segmented control up such that when I set the width directly it will automatically re-centre. However, when setting the width in code, is it true I need to set it via -setFrame? If this is the case, then I also need to set its X origin, which renders my auto-centralising redundant. My code: [segmentedControl removeSegmentAtIndex:2 animated:NO]; [segmentedControl setFrame:CGRectMake(segmentedControl.frame.origin.x + ((segmentedControl.frame.size.width - TWO_SEGMENT_SEGMENTED_CONTROL_WIDTH) / 2), segmentedControl.frame.origin.y, TWO_SEGMENT_SEGMENTED_CONTROL_WIDTH, segmentedControl.frame.size.height)]; This works, but seems hugely overblown for my purposes. Is there really no simpler way to set solely the width of the control in code?

  • Preferred place to store username

    - by Rudiger
    I am dealing with a single username and password in an App, I'm storing the password in the keychain for security but where best to store the username? In NSUserDefaults, CFPreferences or is there a way to retrieve it out of the keychain along with the password. Later on there might be two entries in the keychain so I think this might be out of the question. Or does it not matter at all?

  • UIImagePickerController image editing not working

    - by Greg Reichow
    I am having a problem with implementing UIImagePickerController. When the controller loads, it displays modally, and allows the user to select the image. Good so far. Yet, then when it moves to the editing phase, it often displays somewhat corrupted view (the image cropping box is halfway off the top of the screen) and their is no image. It does not crash, but all UI interaction is blocked. The strange part is that this only happens when I compile with Release settings. Under debug compile settings, the image editing works fine! I have tried checking for memory warnings during this time, but none are showing up. Here is the code calling the image picker controller for reference. When I use the camera (the first method), it always works fine. It is just when selecting images from the Library (called from the second method below) does it fail as described above. And again, only on release build, and with various different types of images. - (IBAction) showCameraController:(id)sender { self.imagePicker =[[UIImagePickerController alloc] init]; self.imagePicker.sourceType=UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypeCamera; self.imagePicker.delegate=self; self.imagePicker.allowsEditing=YES; [self presentModalViewController:self.imagePicker animated:YES]; } - (IBAction) showPictureAlbumController:(id)sender { self.imagePicker =[[UIImagePickerController alloc] init]; self.imagePicker.sourceType=UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypePhotoLibrary; self.imagePicker.delegate=self; self.imagePicker.allowsEditing=YES; [self presentModalViewController:self.imagePicker animated:YES]; } The delegate methods are properly implemented, yet, during the problem I am describing, the controller is not yet calling those methods. It is failing when displaying the editing screen before the user is able to select cancel or save. It is just locking up with no crash. Please help!

  • UIPickerView with NSDictionary

    - by Dave
    I am a .NET programmer and new to Objective C. I am trying to make a UIPickerView which acts like a .NET dropdownlist. User sees the list of text and selects one and the selected value (which is the ID) is used in code. I have been browsing for almost half a day trying to figure this out. I could add a regular PickerView with list of strings, picker view with mulitple components and picker view with dependent components none of which seems to answer my query. Please help.

  • setAnimationRepeatAutoreverses not behaved as I expected

    - by danielkwan
    I am starting to learn to use UIView animation. So I wrote the following lines: [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:NULL]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:2.0]; [UIView setAnimationRepeatCount:2]; [UIView setAnimationRepeatAutoreverses:YES]; CGPoint position = greenView.center; position.y = position.y + 100.0f; position.x = position.x + 100.0f; greenView.center = position; [UIView commitAnimations]; In this case, the UIView (a green box) moved back and fore 2 times. So far so good, BUT I found out that after the moving twice, the green box ended up jumped to the "new position" (position.x + 100.0f, position.y + 100.0f) instead of going back to the original position (position.x, position.y). That makes the animation look pretty odd (like after the box swing back to the original position caused by setAnimationRepeatAutoreverses, it jumps back to the new position in the last microsecond!) What is the best way to make the green box NOT jump to the new position at the very last minute?
