Is the .Net 4 Framework going to change before the "go-live" or can we safely assume that the framework will stay the same as it currently is in the Release Candidate?
I posted this over at reddit but it didn't gain any momentum.
So here is what is going on: our company was recently purchased by another web shop and I was promoted to head of development here in our office. Our office is completely .NET/SQL Server and the company who purchased us is a *nix/PHP/MySQL shop. Now several of our large clients who are on the .NET platform are up for complete rewrites (the sites are from '04 and are running on the 1.x framework.) While reviewing the proposal for one client with my superior I came across a pretty extensive module which would require several hundred man hours to complete and voiced some concern about it in relation to the quote. One of the guys from the PHP group happen to hear this and told me of a module that they (PHP Group) use in Drupal that does exactly what the proposal in front of me was describing and it only took, at most, 8 hours to completely setup / configure. My superior suggested that I take a look at Drupal and the module in question over the weekend but stressed that we should only go that route if it really made sense.
So this weekend I spun up a CentOS instance in VirtualBox and started playing around with Drupal. I am still fleshing it out so don't have a solid opinion on it just yet. Anyway I have some questions / fears that I was hoping progit could help me out in!
Has anyone had experience doing this and, if so, how did it turn out?
I am completely ignorant to what IDE's (if any) are available to for PHP. The last time I worked with PHP it was in Notepad and that was less than intuitive. So is there are more intuitive IDE out there for PHP dev?
I don't want to scare my .NET guys. Since the merger all of our new business clients that have had relatively small websites have gone on Drupal with the larger sites going on .NET. My concern is that if they see a large site go onto Drupal that they might start getting anxious and start handing out their resumes. For the foreseeable future there are no plans to liquidate the .NET platform and really we can't just from a support standpoint. What would be the best way to approach this?
Any other helpful info?
Thanks!
With a scripting language like python (or php), things are not compiled down to bytecode like in .net or java.
So does this mean that on every request, it has to go through the entire application and parse/compile it? Or at least all the code required for the given call stack?
I am needing to create a web service, so the first thing I did of course was go to google
If you look in those results, you'll see nothing but things about ASMX, which apparently is dubbed legacy technology to be replaced by WCF. Why is it that ASMX is still so vastly popular? (of course, on SO WCF is way more popular.. hmmm)
I want to go through a table, and change all instances of 'notify4-N' to 'notify5-N', where N is a number from 1-9. Is there a way to do that in SQL? It would be easy in perl, but I'm not sure the customer even has perl on his servers.
How would I go about creating a cross-browser script, that would intercept all events firing on
a page/browser window/DOM-tree (regardless of browser)?
What I'm hoping to accomplish is basically to get a better understanding of the different handling
of events in different browsers; I know the basic theory, but need to see to believe...
Trying to consistently tack on a route parameter for every action without having to set it every action I tried this with ViewData but it seems ineffecient to do to every action. when I have over 40-50 actions, and Sessions are a no go for me. Is there a simpler way through filters or something else I could use?
eg. http://localhost/myController/myView?param=foo
eg. http://localhost/myController/myView/myID?param=foo (needs to be tacked on id automatically)
I'm using ECJ with Java. I have an army of individuals who I all want to have the same brain. Basically, I'd like to evolve the brains using GP. I want things like "if-on-enemy-territory" and "if-sense-target" for if statements and "go-home" or "move-randomly" or "shoot" for terminals. However, these statements need to be full executable Java code. How can I do this with ECJ?
Hi,
I would like to create a powershell script generating a report showing all compressed files/folders on remote servers. By compressed files I mean files compressed using the buildin Windows Compression utility, not zip. But I have a hard time figuring out how to localize the compressed files. Should I go with WMI or?
Thanks
Frank
What is the easiest way of paginating data that is in divs? Some jquery library for it? Basically I would only need 1/x pages shoqing and arrow buttons to go throught all the data.
I'm running into the Windows Vista/7 Program Compatibility Assistant problem described here:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1069135/this-program-might-not-have-installed-correctly-message-in-windows-7-rc
The solution (backed-up by similar questions elsewhere, and MSDN), is apparently to add a 'compatibility' section to setup.exe's manifest. InstallShield 10 SP1 does this automatically, but unfortunately I only have InstallShield 2009.
How would I go about editing the manifest? Is there a way to do this programmatically, so I can integrate it into my build?
Everyone, every blog is talking about HTML 5 and giving solution to use HTML in all browsers including IE6.
Should we leave XHTML 1.0 now and go
for HTML 5 and use JavaScript for IE6 support?
Does all other desktop/mobile browser
except IE6 supports HTML 5 without
adding JavaScript?
Will every browser render CSS written
for HTML 5 elements?
What about Screen- readers?
What are pros and cons to choose HTML 5 for all new projects?
Hey you Objective-C bods.
Does anyone know how I would go about changing (transforming) an image based on the input from the Microphone on the iPhone?
i.e. When a user speaks into the Mic, the image will pulse or skew.
Thanking you!!
Go to the Starcraft II website at http://us.starcraft2.com/ and scroll down to the bottom of the page. Notice how it appears like you are looking out of a cockpit.
As you scroll up and down the stars move independently from the cockpit windows creating a layered effect.
How do they get two images to move independently of each other?
Hi,
I want to make a program that takes recorded speech and transforms it so it sounds like it's coming from a Texas TI-99. Do you have any good ideas and resources for how to go about that?
I was just wondering if it's at all possible to create a service like Feed My Inbox on my own server using PHP?
Basically I have a site which has RSS feeds which are dynamic in nature and can search from thousands of posts based on many different criteria. I have the RSS feed working fine and bringing back data dynamically for whatever criteria I want so that bits fine.
I am using the ExpressionEngine CMS to handle the site and there will be thousands of users on the site (currently there are around 2,0000) but that number is exponentially growing every single day.
What I want to be able to do is allow the users to choose from certain criteria which will then build a dynamic RSS URL which will then be stored in a database table (one row for each user). This bit I will be able to do myself but then I want to be able to send out new RSS feed items via e-mail to each user.
This is the part I'm a little stuck on. I'm guessing I would somehow need to run a cron job to hit a page which would check each users RSS feed and then if there are new items to send them to the user via e-mail.
That's where I am totally stuck though and I'm just wondering what the best way to go about it would be? That or any software in PHP that already does this sort of thing would be great. I tried out phpList but it has severe problems working with RSS and I only ever got it to work once and now never again and I've read that lots of people have had this same problem so unfortunately it's not just me :-(
I know there are services such as Feed My Inbox which I could easily set up so that users click a link and their RSS feed URL is added to go and use that service but I want to keep users from seeing the dynamic nature of the feed or they will easily be able to modify it to get at other items in the feed.
I need this so that I can charge for access to the feeds but if people can see the URL of the feed then I will be totally unstuck as they will be able to get at whatever they want very easily.
Therefore I'd like to be able to send the items out to them.
Would really love to hear if anyone knows if this kind of thing is possible at all and what would be involved?
The name "view model" suggests that it models the data for the view. That much is obvious. What else can or should goin the view model?
As an example, a view might display a list of items in a shopping cart, fields for customer's credit card info, and fields for customer's billing information. The view model might contain properties for all that OR it might only contain properties for the shopping cart items.
So this "question" makes no sense and will be closed.
But are you willing to spend your hard-earned reputation to downvote it? Go on.
A programmer should be able to make logical decisions, why will you downvote the question then instead of ignoring it?
I'm playing around with get_iplayer (fantastic) it's running every few hours to grab any new episodes of whatever....
After it has finished grabbing anything new i'd like to change the emblem of ~/Videos to add a plus or star (nautilus emblem preferably)
Do i go about this via nautilus?
Do i need to change something in gnome-config?
I'm sure this can't be FS level?
Cheers for any links and advice.
I am working on a search box that displays different options based on a users selection via dropdown box. Basically I need a really clean, light-weight method for switching out different divs without reloading the page. Im new to JS, but I know enough that there should be some really simple way of setting the display property using JS - Im just not totally sure how to go about it. Any help would be really appreciated, thanks.
Here's my code:
qplot(data=sites, x, y, main="Site 349")
(p <- qplot(data = sites, x, y, xlab = "", ylab = ""))
(p1 <- p + geom_smooth(method = "loess",span=0.5, size = 1.5))
p1 + theme_bw() + opts(title = "Site 349")
Some of the LOESS lines and confidence intervals go below zero, but I would like to restrict the graphics to 0 and positive numbers (because negative do not make sense). How can I do this?
here i want to check facebook user id and password in my application. if facebook userid and password is correct, go to another page. if not, stay in that page only

Thanks a lot ...
hello
I'm trying to represent log files via the whiptail's infobox. The only setback is that I don't want to scroll down through hundreds of log lines. Is there a way to make the scroll bar go to the end of the box automatically?
Thanks for the help.
I have a Python web application consisting of several Python packages. What is the best way of building and deploying this to the servers?
Currently I'm deploying the packages with Capistrano, installing the packages into a virtualenv with bash, and configuring the servers with puppet, but I would like to go for a more Python based solution.
I've been looking a bit into zc.buildout, but it's not clear for me what I can/should use it for.
