Friday Fun: Destroy the Web

Another Friday has arrived and it’s time to screw off on company time. Today we take a look at a unique game Add-on for Firefox called Destroy the Web. Destroy the Web Once you install the Add-on and restart Firefox, you’ll see the Destroy the Web icon on the toolbar. Click on it to destroy whatever webpage you’re on. The game starts up and gives you a 3 second countdown… Now move the target over different elements of the page to destroy them. You have 30 seconds to destroy the site contents. If you are angry at a particular company or the one you work for, this can give you some fun stress relief by destroying it’s website. After you’ve destroyed as much of the page as possible, you’re given a score. You get different amounts of points for destroying certain elements on the page. Basically destroy as much as possible to get the most points. You can submit your score and check out some of the scoreboard leaders as well. There are some cool sound effects and arcade sounding background music, so make sure to turn the volume down while playing. Or you can go into the Add-on options and disable it. If you want a unique way to let off some steam before the weekend starts, this is a fun way of doing it. Remove Clutter from the Opera Speed Dial Page

Do you want to clean up the Speed Dial page in Opera so that only the thumbnails are visible? Today we show you a couple of tweaks that will make it happen. Speed Dial Page The search bar and text at the bottom take up room and add clutter to the look and feel of Opera’s Speed Dial page. Changing the Settings Two small tweaks to the config settings will clean it all up. To get started type opera:config into the address bar and press enter. Type “speed” into the quick find bar and look for the Speed Dial State entry. Change the 1 to 2 and click save. You will see the following message concerning the changes…click OK. Next type “search” into the quick find bar and look for the Speed Dial Search Type entry. Remove all of the text in the blank and click save. Once again you will see a message about the latest change that you have made. At this point you may need to restart Opera for both changes to take full effect. There will be a noticeable difference in how the Speed Dial page looks afterwards and is much cleaner without the Search bar and text field. You will also still be able to access the right click context menu just like before. Send an E-mail Quickly with the GmailThis! Bookmarklet

Sometimes you need to send out a quick e-mail for a project that you are working on, something really important that you just remembered, or perhaps just a note to yourself. If you use Gmail and like keeping things simple then join us as we look at the GmailThis! Bookmarklet. GmailThis! in Action To get set up all that you need to do is visit the webpage (link provided below) and drag the bookmarklet to your “Bookmarks Toolbar”. For our example we decided to go with the “personal note” approach. As you can see here we selected/highlighted a portion of the text and then clicked on our new bookmarklet. The bookmarklet will automatically copy and paste the name of the webpage, the URL, and any text that you selected/highlighted into the new e-mail. A nice feature that we liked was that it opened in a new temporary window to help focus on composing our letter. This is what you will see when you have finished your letter and clicked “Send”. The window will automatically close itself after a few seconds so that you do not even have to worry with it afterwards. Looking at our “Inbox” there is our new e-mail looking oh so nice. Conclusion If you need to send out a quick e-mail using your Gmail account then this bookmarklet makes it as quick and simple as possible. Make the Taskbar Buttons Switch to the Last Active Window in Windows 7

The new Windows 7 taskbar’s Aero Peek feature, with the live thumbnails of every window, is awesome… but sometimes you just want to be able to click the taskbar button and have the last open window show up instead. Here’s a quick hack to make it work better. To better understand the problem, imagine having nine windows of the same type open on your screen, but you are primarily working in just one of the windows at a time. So every time you want to switch back, you have to click the taskbar button, and then choose the one you are using from the list, which can be pretty annoying… Now if you know your Windows 7 shortcuts, you’d know that you can simply hold down the Ctrl key while clicking on the taskbar button, and the last window will show up. In fact, you can keep holding down the Ctrl key and keep clicking, and Windows will cycle through the open windows. It’s a useful shortcut, but hardly something you want to do every single time. Instead, we’ll use a quick registry hack to make the normal click switch to the last open window—if you still want to see the thumbnail list, just hover your mouse over the button for half a second to see the full list. Manual Registry Hack for Last Active Window Open up regedit.exe through the start menu search or run box, and then head down to the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced Once you’re there, create a new 32-bit DWORD value on the right hand side, give it the name LastActiveClick, and set the value to 1. Once you are done, it should look something like this: Once you are done, you’ll have to log off and back on, or you can kill Explorer.exe through Task Manager and re-open it. Back in Q2 of FY12, a division of ITT invited Oracle to demo our CRM On Demand product while the group was considering Salesforce.com. Chris Porter, our Oracle Direct sales representative learned the players and their needs and began to develop relationships. We lost that deal, but not Chris's persistence. A few months passed and Chris called on the ITT Shape Cutting Division's Director of Sales to see how things were going. Chris was told that the plan was for the division to buy more Salesforce.com. In fact, he informed Chris that he had just sent his team to Salesforce.com training. During the conversation, Chris mentioned that our new Oracle Sales Cloud Service could run with Outlook. asp .net MVC 2.0 Validation

Hi I’m trying to do some validation in asp .net MVC 2.0 for my application. I want to have some nice client side validation. Validation should be done most time on model side with DataAnnotations with custom attributes( like CompareTo, StringLenght, MinPasswordLenght (from Membership.MinimumumpassworkdLenght value). For that purpose I tried to use xval with jquery.validation. Some specific thing is that most of forms will be working with ajax and most problems are when I want to validate form with ajax. Custom attributes validation Next thing custom attributes validation ( All those error are when I use Ajax for on normal form validation is working without problem. ): CompareTo - Simple compare to that is done in mvc template for account model ( class attribute saying with two property will be compared ) , and it wasn’t show on page. To do it I created own CachingRulesProvider with compareRule and my Attribute. Maybe there is more easy way to do it? StringLenght with minimum and maximum value, I won’t describe how I done it but is there any easy whey to do it? Validation summary When I have two two control on page all summary validation information goes to first control validation summary element, even xval generated script say that elementID are different for summary. Any one know how to repair it? Validation Information Is there any option to turn on messages on place where is Html.ValidationMessageFor(model = model.ConfirmPassword). Becsoue for me it isn’t show up. I would like to have summary and near field information too not only red border. Any one know how to do it? Ajax submit Anyone know how to do easy without massive code in javascript to do submit via javascript. This will be used to change input submit to href element (a). Netbeans Java SE GUI Builder: private initComponents() problem

When I build a GUI for my Java SE app with Netbeans GUI builder, it puts all the codes in the initComponents() method which is private. I could not change it to public. So, all the components are accessible only to the class containing the UI. I want to access those components from another class so that I can write custom event handlers and everything. Most importantly I want to separate my GUI code and non-GUI from each other. I can copy paste the GUI code and later make them public by hand to achieve what I want. But thats a pain. I have to handcraft a portion whenever I need to re-design the UI. What I tried to do: I used the variable identifier to make the text box public. Now how can I access the text box from the Main class? I think I need the component generated in a public method as well. I am new to Java. Any helps? Good day. I'm developing a Windows application and working with Windows Forms; .Net 2.0. I have an issue databinding a generic List of Car Rental Companies to a DataGridView when that list contains (one of its properties) anoother generic List of Car Makes. I also have a UserControl that I need to bind to this [inner] generic list ... Class CarRentalCompany contains: string Name, string Location, List CarMakes Class CarMake contains: string Name, bool isFord, bool isChevy, bool isOther The UserControl has a label for CarMake.Name and 3 checkboxes for each of the booleans of the class. HOw do I make this user control bindable for the class? In my form, I have a DataGridView binded to the CarRentalCompany object. The list CarMakes could be 0 or more items and I can add these as necessary. How do I establish the binding of CarRentalCompanies properly so CarMakes will bind accordingly?? I have this broken php upload script

I have this script for uploading a image and content from a form, it works in one project but not the other. I have spent a good few hours trying to debug it, I am hoping someone could point out the issue I might be having. Where there are comments is where I have tried to debug. The first error I got was the "echo invalid file" at the beginning of the last comment. With these specific areas commented out the upload name and type that I am supposed to be grabbing from the form is not being echoed, I am thinking this is where the error is occurring, but can't quite seem to find it. How can we unify business goals and technical goals?

Some background I work at a small startup: 4 devs, 1 designer, and 2 non-technical co-founders, one who provides funding, and the other who handles day-to-day management and sales. Our company produces mobile apps for target industries, and we've gotten a lot of lucky breaks lately. The outlook is good, and we're confident we can make this thing work. One reason is our product development team. Everyone on the team is passionate, driven, and has a great sense of what makes an awesome product. As a result, we've built some beautiful applications that we're all proud of. The other reason is the co-founders. Both have a brilliant business sense (one actually founded a multi-million dollar company already), and they have close ties in many of the industries we're trying to penetrate. Consequently, they've brought in some great business and continue to keep jobs in the pipeline. The problem The problem we can't seem to shake is how to bring these two awesome advantages together. On the business side, there is a huge pressure to deliver as fast as possible as much as possible, whereas on the development side there is pressure to take your time, come up with the right solution, and pay attention to all the details. Lately these two sides have been butting heads a lot. Developers are demanding quality while managers are demanding quantity. How can we handle this? Both sides are correct. We can't survive as a company if we build terrible applications, but we also can't survive if we don't sell enough. So how should we go about making compromises? Things we've done with little or no success: Work more (well, it did result in better quality and faster delivery, but the dev team has never been more stressed out before) Charge more (as a startup, we don't yet have the credibility to justify higher prices, so no one is willing to pay) Extend deadlines (if we charge the same, but take longer, we'll end up losing money) Things we've done with some success: Sacrifice pay to cut costs (everyone, from devs to management, is paid less than they could be making elsewhere. In return, however, we all have creative input and more flexibility and freedom, a typical startup trade off) Standardize project management (we recently started adhering to agile/scrum principles so we can base deadlines on actual velocity, not just arbitrary guesses) Hire more people (we used to have 2 developers and no designers, which really limited our bandwidth. However, as a startup we can only afford to hire a few extra people.) Is there anything we're missing or doing wrong? How is this handled at successful companies? I was wondering if somehow I could make a public void that would just make the form pop up and ask the user 3 to 5 questions and then once it asks the maximum number of questions, to close and then have a method that returns true if the user won, or false if they didn't. But I literally have no idea how to do that. Edit: So I know a for loop can make code run more than once. But the problem I'm having is, is that I don't know how to make it so that the trivia game asks 3 to 5 questions BEFORE returning something.

What is hiberfil.sys and How Do I Delete It?

You’re no doubt reading this article because there’s a gigantic hiberfil.sys file sitting in the root of your drive, and you want to get rid of it to free up some space… but you can’t! Luckily, you actually can delete it, and today we’ll show you how. The more memory you have in your PC, the bigger the file will be. So What is hiberfil.sys Anyway? Windows has two power management modes that you can choose from: one is Sleep Mode, which keeps the PC running in a low power state so you can almost instantly get back to what you were working on. The other is Hibernate mode, which completely writes the memory out to the hard drive, and then powers the PC down entirely, so you can even take the battery out, put it back in, start back up, and be right back where you were. Hibernate mode uses the hiberfil.sys file to store the the current state (memory) of the PC, and since it’s managed by Windows, you can’t delete the file. So if you never use it, and want to disable Hibernate mode, keep reading. Personally I stick with Sleep Mode the vast majority of the time, but I do use Hibernate quite often. Disable Hibernate (and Delete hiberfil.sys) in Windows 7 or Vista You’ll need to open an administrator mode command prompt by right-clicking on the command prompt in the start menu, and then choosing Run as Administrator. Once you’re there, type in the following command: powercfg -h off You should immediately notice that the Hibernate option is gone from the Shut down menu. You’ll also notice that the file is magically gone! For more about dealing with Hibernate like setting how long it takes to head into Hibernate mode, you can check out our article on How to Manage Hibernate Mode in Windows 7. Disabling Hibernate Mode in Windows XP It’s a lot easier in Windows XP to get rid of Hibernate mode… in fact, we’ve already covered it before, but we’ll cover it again. Just head into Control Panel –> Power Options, and then find the Hibernate tab. Uncheck the box, reboot your PC, and then you can delete the hiberfil.sys file. i am trying to post data to Mysql using jquery $.post and php page. my code is not running and nothing is added to the mysql table. I am not sure if the path i am creating is wrong but any help would be appreciated.
