• git doesn't show where code was removed.

  So I was tasked at replacing some dummy code that our project requires for historical compatibility reasons but has mysteriously dropped out sometime since the last release. Since disappearing code makes me nervous about what else might have gone missing but un-noticed I've been digging through the logs trying to find in what commit this handful of lines was removed. I've tried a number of things including "git log -S'add-visit-resource-pcf'", git blame, and even git bisect with a script that simply checks for the existence of the line but have been unable to pinpoint exactly where these lines were removed.   I am trying to convert an HTML page to a PDF using iTextSharp.dll in ASP.Net. I am able to convert the contents to my PDF , but the problem is that the Formatting of HTML page (which is inline) get removed from my PDF created. • Do I need to implement an XMPP server?

  (newbie alert) I need to program a multiparty communication service for a course project, and I am considering XMPP for it. The service needs following messaging semantics: 1) server will provide a method of registering and unregistering an address such as [email protected]/SomeResource. (for now I will do it manually). 2) server will provide a method of forwarding incoming messages from, say, [email protected]/SomeResource to [email protected]/someOtherResource, assuming that the latter is registered, and a method for removing this forwarding. (for now I will do it manually). 3) anonymous clients can send messages to, say, [email protected]/someresource (one way traffic only). If there is any forwarding setup, the message will be forwarded. Finally if the address is [email protected]/someresource is registered, the message will be stored for later delivery (or immediate if a retrieving client is online - see below). If no forwarding and unregistered, message will be silently dropped. 4) clients can connect and retrieve messages from a registered address. Exact method of authenticating clients (e.g., passwords?) is yet to be determined. Eventually, I want to add support for clients to connect from a web browser so they can register/unregister and set/remove forwarding themselves. Thus, the server will have to do some non-standard switching. Will I need to implement an XMPP server for this? I guess some (or all?) of this can also be done using a XMPP client bot

• How do I deliver mail for wildcard addresses to a particular user/alias/program?

  I need to configure sendmail so that mail delivered for wildcard addresses is accepted for delivery and then delivered to a user, alias, or directly to a script. I can rewrite the envelope/headers any number of ways, but I don't know how to accept the wildcard address when it's provided in RCPT TO: Everything I've tried so far winds up with a 550 user unknown error. So here's a specific example: I want to be able to handle any address that consists of a series of digits followed by a dot followed by a word, then pipe that to a script. If the headers get rewritten, that's OK, but I need the envelope to contain the actual Delivered-To address. Here's the sort of SMTP session I need: 220 blah.foo.com ESMTP server ready; Thu, 22 Apr 2010 20:41:08 -0700 (PDT) HELO blort.foo.com 250 blah.foo.com Hello blort.foo.com [10.1.2.3], pleased to meet you MAIL FROM: <[email protected]> 250 2.1.0 <[email protected]>... • Outgoing Emails (Git Patches) Blocked by Windows Live

  Just recently I dove into the VideoLAN open source project. This was my first time using git, and when sending in my first patch (using git send-email --to [email protected] patches), I was sent the following message from my computer's local mail in the terminal (I'm on OSX 10.6 by the way): Mail rejected by Windows Live Hotmail for policy reasons. We generally do not accept email from dynamic IP's as they are not typically used to deliver unauthenticated SMTP e-mail to an Internet mail server. http:/www.spamhaus.org maintains lists of dynamic and residential IP addresses. If you are not an email/network admin please contact your E-mail/Internet Service Provider for help. Email/network admins, please visit http://postmaster.live.com for email delivery information and support They must think I'm a spammer. I have a dynamic IP and my ISP (Charter) won't let me get a static one, so I tried editing git preferences: git config --global user.email "[email protected]" to my gmail account. However I got the exact same message again. My guess is that it has something to do with the native mail's preferences, but I have no idea how to access them or modify them. Anybody have any ideas for solving this? Thanks!

  As so many people I'm looking for a Products /Product Properties database schema. I'm using Ruby on Rails and (Thinking) Sphinx for faceted searches. Requirements: Adding new product types and their options should not require a change to the database schema Support faceted searches using Sphinx. Solutions I've come across: (See Bill Karwin's answer) Option 1: Single Table Inheritance Not an option really. The table would contain way to many columns. Option 2: Class Table Inheritance Ruby on Rails caches the database schema on start-up which means a restart whenever a new type of product is introduced. If you have a size able product catalog this could mean hundreds of tables. Option 3: Serialized LOB Kills being able to do faceted searches without heavy application logic. Option 4: Entity-Attribute-Value For testing purposes, EAV worked fine. However it could quickly become a mess and a maintenance hell as you add more and more options (e.g. when an option increase the prices or delivery time). What option should I go with? What other solutions are out there? Is there a silver bullet (ha) I overlooked?

  Hi, I'm trying to send emails through localhost (XAMPP Windows 1.7.3 installation), but I've been trying for hours with no success. • Looking for an email template engine for end-users ...

  We have a number of customers that we have to send monthly invoices too. Right now, I'm managing a codebase that does SQL queries against our customer database and billing database and places that data into emails - and sends it. I grow weary of maintaining this every time we want to include a new promotion or change our customer service phone numbers. So, I'm looking for a replacement to move more of this into the hands of those requesting the changes. In my ideal world, I need : A WYSIWYG (man, does anyone even say that anymore?) email editor that generates templates based upon the output from a Database Query. The ability to drag and drop various fields from the database query into the email template. Display of sample email results with the database query. Web application, preferably not requiring IIS. Involve as little code as possible for the end-user, but allow basic functionality (i.e. arrays/for loops) Either comes with it's own email delivery engine, or writes output in a way that I can easily write a Python script to deliver the email. Support for generic Database Connectors. (I need MSSQL and MySQL) F/OSS So ... can anyone suggest a project like this, or some tools that'd be useful for rolling my own? (My current alternative idea is using something like ERB or Tenjin, having them write the code, but not having live-preview for the editor would suck...)

• "Ghost" values in PHP/Smarty.

  I've been working on a site for a while changing the layout and skin of a webshop checkout process. I've noticed that if you go all the way through the process until the last page, then click the link to go back to the view products page, the delivery method price displays underneath the navigation buttons, until you refresh and it goes away again. • How to use clearInterval() and then make changes to the DOM?

  I have this code and the problem I have is that I want to stop the loop and then replace the text 'Done!' that comes from the sms-loader.php script with the "textnew" string. Problem is that the loop occurs one more time so the text in the div.checkstatus field is again replaced by the calling php script. The strange thing is that I see the log message and again I get a new (and final) request, although the ordering is the opposite (first stop then replace text()) in my script. • Excel I have a .Net object compiled as a tlb but cant not access any methods apart from Dispose.

I have then converted the object to a TLB. I've not really touched on this area before so any help will be appreciated. • What is the best way to implement a callback scenario using WCF and ASP.NET MVC?

  I am new to WCF. I just finished reading Learning WCF and I think I've got a pretty good grasp of the fundamentals. I am adding functionality to a line of business app that runs on ASP.NET MVC entirely inside the corporate LAN. I am calling into a service that will also send me events as they occur (and not as responses to service calls). These events can occur at any point during the user's session. I have the service written, and it is able to pick up these events. What would be the best way to deliver these events to the user? My initial thought is to run the WCF service in duplex mode over net TCP and implement the events as callbacks. Using this scenario, the best way I can think up to deliver the events to the user is a dictionary object stored in the session. The dictionary would be populated by the callbacks and polled on a set frequency for delivery via AJAX calls. Has anyone dealt with this scenario? Is there a more efficient way to implement this?

  We have a number of customers that we have to send monthly invoices too. Right now, I'm managing a codebase that does SQL queries against our customer database and billing database and places that data into emails - and sends it. I grow weary of maintaining this every time we want to include a new promotion or change our customer service phone numbers. So, I'm looking for a replacement to move more of this into the hands of those requesting the changes. In my ideal world, I need : A WYSIWYG (man, does anyone even say that anymore?) email editor that generates templates based upon the output from a Database Query. The ability to drag and drop various fields from the database query into the email template. Display of sample email results with the database query. Web application, preferably not requiring IIS. Involve as little code as possible for the end-user, but allow basic functionality (i.e. arrays/for loops) Either comes with it's own email delivery engine, or writes output in a way that I can easily write a Python script to deliver the email. Support for generic Database Connectors. (I need MSSQL and MySQL) F/OSS So ... can anyone suggest a project like this, or some tools that'd be useful for rolling my own? (My current alternative idea is using something like ERB or Tenjin, having them write the code, but not having live-preview for the editor would suck...)

  Hi Folks, Basically I have my domain howcode.com bought at DomainMonster.com. I have set it all up to point to MediaTemple nameservers and everything works - mostly - fine. I have registered an email address [email protected]. The setup is, I presume, working correctly. I can successfully send emails with the account. And I presume I can receive them - but the problem is, nobody can send them to me. Emailing from a regular, non-Googlemail account appears to work fine but it never arrives in the inbox. But when you email from a GoogleMail address, an error message is instantly returned saying this: Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently: [email protected] Technical details of permanent failure: Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain.   In trying to follow the Ubuntu guide for postfix and mailman, I do not understand these directions: This build of mailman runs as list. It must have permission to read /etc/aliases and read and write /var/lib/mailman/data/aliases.   Hi! I have small problem with my sendmail server and need your little help :-) My situation is as follow: User mailboxes are placed on MS exchanege server and all mail to and from outside world are relayed trough my sendmail box. Exchange server ----- sendmail server ------ Internet My servers accept messages for one main domain (say, my.domain.com) and for few other domains (let we narrow it too just one, say my_other.domain.com). After configuring sendmail with showed bellow abbreviated sendmail.mc file, essentially everything works ok, but there is small problem. I want to reject messages addressed to not existing recipients as soon as possible (to avoid sending non delivery reports), so my sendmail server make LDAP queries to exchange server, validating every recipient address. This works well both domains but not for subdomains. Such subdomains do not exist, but someone (I'm mean those heated spamers :-) could try addresses like this: user@any_host.my.domain.com or user@any_host.my_other.domain.com and for those addresses results are as follows: Messages to user@sendmail_hostname.my.domain.com are rejected with error "Unknown user" (due to additional LDAPROUTE_DOMAIN line in my sendmail.mc file, and this is expected behaviour) Messages to user@any_other_hostname.my.domain.com are rejected with error "Relaying denied". Little strange to me, why this time the error is different, but still ok. After all message was rejected and I don't care very much what error code will be returned to sender (spamer). Messages to user@sendmail_hostname.my_other.domain.com and user@any_other_hostname.my_other.domain.com are rejected with error "Unknown user" but only when, there is no user@my_other.domain.com mailbox (on exchange server). If such mailbox exist, then all three addresses (i.e. user@my_other.domain.com, user@sendmail_hostname.my_other.domain.com and user@any_other_hostname.my_other.domain.com) will be accepted.
