  It is annoying, when while watching film, I get growl notifications or mail notifications with Herald. I thought that one way to solve this is to set VLC's 'z-index' higher, than Growl's and Herald's notification boxes. Or maybe I can add hook to VLC going fullscreen/windowed, so it will disable both Growl and Herald for that time. Any advice?

  Recently set up root encryption with a couple of LVM volumes inside one LUKS volume, and I am just a little confused as to how I would go about getting it to automatically unlock using a keyfile stored on a USB flash drive, I presume I would have to put the drive in the fstab inside my initramfs (if there is one), and add a hook for USB device support. But I digress, essentially, I want to know what I have to do to enable my LUKS volume (containing all of my partitions sans /boot) to unlock using a keyfile stored on a USB flash drive, rather than a manually entered passphrase.

Every time the application starts, it scans every single file in the directories that it watches before copying files that were added or modified. To improve performance, I was wondering if there were a Windows backup application that would hook into Windows to keep tracks of files that were added/modified in given directories, so that it only needs to go through this list when it comes time for a backup.
