  • Double right click to Show a PopUpMenu with A TListView !!

    - by djiga4me
    Hi, I have a TListView and TPopupMenu, and I want to show a context menu when I right click on a TListItem. I tried the "AutoPopup" by assigning the component, but on a right click the PopupMenu is shown only and the wanted element is not selected. So i tried to use the "OnMouseDown", but we need to click and click again to show the menu on the wanted item. The first click is to select the item and the second shows the menu. But I want just a one click to do the two things. Do you have and idea about the problem? Thank you.

  • Retrieving saved checkboxes' name and values from database

    - by sermed
    I have a form with checkboxes, each one has a value. When the registered user select any checkbox the value is incremented (the summation) and then then registred user save his selection of checkbox if he satisfied with the result of summation into database all this work fine ...i want to enable the registred user to view his selection history by retriving and displaying the checkboxes he selected in a page with thier values ... How I can do that? I'm just able to save the selected checkboxes as choice 1, choice 2, for example .. I want to view the selected checkboxes that is saved in database as the appear in the page when the user first select them: for example if the registred user selects these 3 options LEAD DEEP KEEL (1825) FULLY BATTENED MAINSAIL (558) TEAK SIDE DECKS (2889) They will be saved as for example (choice1, choice2, choice3). But if he want to view selected checkboxes the appear exactly as first he selects them: LEAD DEEP KEEL (1825) FULLY BATTENED MAINSAIL (558) TEAK SIDE DECKS (2889) This is my user table: $query="CREATE TABLE User( user_id varchar(20), password varchar(40), user_type varchar(20), firstname varchar(30), lastname varchar(30), street varchar(50), city varchar(50), county varchar(50), post_code varchar(10), country varchar(50), gender varchar(6), dob varchar(15), tel_no varchar(50), vals varchar(50), email varchar(50))"; and the code to inser the options selected to database <?php include("databaseconnection.php"); $str = ''; foreach($_POST as $key => $val) if (strpos($key,'choice') !== false) $str .= $key.','; $query = "INSERT INTO User (vals) VALUES('$str')"; $result=mysql_query($query,$conn); if ($result) { (mysql_error(); } else { echo " done"; } ?> And this is my form: function checkTotal() { document.listForm.total.value = ''; var sum = 0; for (i=0;i <form name="listForm" method="post" action="insert_options.php" > <TABLE cellPadding=3 width=600 border=0> <TBODY> <TR> <TH align=left width="87%" bgColor=#b0b3b4><SPAN • Bizarre Son of Suckerfish ie6/ie7 problem - 2 letters from right-most dropdown menu also appearing o

    - by Kevin Burke
    I'm interning for an NGO in India and trying to fix their website, including updating their menu so it's not the last item on the page to load, and it's centered on the screen. Everything works well enough but when I try out my new menu in IE6, I get this weird error where the content below the menu is padded an extra 30px or so and the material in the right-most drop down appears on the far left of the screen, always visible. When I drop down the rightmost link ("Publications") the content appears both in the correct location and in the same spot on the far left of the screen, and changes color when I hover as well. It's tough to describe, so it would probably be best if you took a look: visit http://sevamandir.org/a30/aboutus.htm in your IE6/IE7 browser to see for yourself. I really appreciate your help. Also I'm using a 1000px wide monitor, if there's more hijinks going on outside that space I'd like to know about that too. I took a look at the problem again and it's even weirder than I thought. Only two letters of the bottom-most drop down menu item are shown, no matter how many items are in the left-most drop down menu. When I delete the left-most drop down menu, the bottom item from the next left-most item shows up in the same space. The padding between the menu and the content is always the same. When I hover over the real menu item, the two letters on the left hand side change color to match the hover color. Unfortunately many people that visit our website are using old browsers so IE6 support is pretty crucial, this problem is really weird though, and I would appreciate some help. I uploaded a file with the entire style.css sheet in the and HTML code below, at http://sevamandir.org/a30/aboutus.htm. Here's the relevant code: in the html head: <script> sfHover = function() { var sfEls = document.getElementById("nav").getElementsByTagName("LI"); for (var i=0; i<sfEls.length; i++) { sfEls[i].onmouseover=function() { this.className+=" sfhover"; } sfEls[i].onmouseout=function() { this.className=this.className.replace(new RegExp(" sfhover\\b"), ""); } } } if (window.attachEvent) window.attachEvent("onload", sfHover); </script> text surrounding the menu - the menu is simply <ul id="nav"><li></li></ul> etc. <!--begin catchphrase--> <div style="float:left; height:27px; width:520px; margin:0px; font:16px Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-weight:bold; color:#769841;"> Transforming lives through democratic &amp; participatory development </div> <?php include("menu.php"); ?> </div><!-- end header --> <!--begin main text div--> <div id="maincontent"> Relevant menu CSS: #nav, #nav ul { font:bold 11px Verdana, sans-serif; float: left; width: 980px; list-style: none; line-height: 1; background: white; font-weight: bold; padding: 0; border: solid #769841; border-width: 0; margin: 0 0 1em 0; } #nav a { display: block; width: 140px; /*this is the total width of the upper menu*/ w\idth: 120px; /*this is the width less horizontal padding */ padding: 5px 10px 5px 10px; /*horiz padding is the 2nd & 4th items here - goes Top Right Bottom Left */ color: #ffffff; background:#b6791e; text-decoration: none; } #nav a.daddy { background: url(rightarrow2.gif) center right no-repeat; } #nav li { float: left; padding: 0; width: 140px; /*this needs to be updated to match top #nav a */ background:#b6791e; } #nav li:hover, #nav li a:hover, #nav li:hover a { background:#769841; } #nav li:hover li a { background:#ffffff; color:#769841; } #nav li ul { position: absolute; left: -999em; height: auto; width: 14.4em; w\idth: 13.9em; font-weight: bold; border-width: 0.25em; /*green border around dropdown menu*/ margin: 0; } #nav li ul a { background:#ffffff; color:#769841; } #nav li li { padding-right: 1em; width: 13em; background:#ffffff; } #nav li ul a { width: 13em; w\idth: 9em; } #nav li ul ul { margin: -1.75em 0 0 14em; } #nav li:hover ul ul, #nav li:hover ul ul ul, #nav li.sfhover ul ul, #nav li.sfhover ul ul ul { left: -999em; } #nav li:hover ul, #nav li li:hover ul, #nav li li li:hover ul, #nav li.sfhover ul, #nav li li.sfhover ul, #nav li li li.sfhover ul { left: auto; } #nav li:hover, #nav li.sfhover, { background: #769841; color:#ffe400; } #nav li a:hover, #nav li li a:hover, #nav li:hover li:hover, #nav li.sfhover a:hover { background: #769841; color:#ffe400; }

  • What is the right way to structure HTML and CSS?

    - by Meke
    So, I'm a script monkey at the core. Lately I seem to get stuffed into doing design too for some odd reason and, well, let's just say I should probably have studied better. Either way - What I ask is, what's the Right way to structure a website? This one has a header with links, then a block with tabs, right under another block which consists of two parts and under those a few others who I'm not at yet. However, the thing is, I need to make a block that consists of two parts that are in the same box but structured independently. I'll try to draw it up. Browser window..................-[]X ------------------------------------ |.................Header Links Here| ||Tab|Tab|Tab|_____________........| ||Tab content.............|Small...| ||........................|Section.| ||---Line signing new section------| ||........................|Another.| ||..Content Area..........|Small...| ||........................|Section.| ------------------------------------ My issue is in the division of small sections and tab/content areas. I tried using floats, making them as tables, aligning and whatnot. The putting float:left on both tables worked. Kinda. Until I tried to resize the window. So, how do you PROPERLY structure a site like this? three divs and tables? Something else? I'll clarify this again: It's the Code to use to create the look above that I'm trying to figure out the proper way to do, not the design As requested here's the current structure I have <div class="container"> <div class="topBlock"> //Header Links Here </div> <div class="inputBlock"> <ul id="tabs"> <li><a href="#strict">Strict</a></li> <li><a href="#flex">Flex</a></li> <li><a href="#multiStep">Multi-Step</a></li> </ul> <div id="strict" class="tabContent"> <table class="tableLeft"> <tr> <td>From</td> </tr> <tr> <td><input id="inputBlockFrom" type="text" placeholder="FROM"/></td> </tr> <tr> <td>To</td> </tr> <tr> <td><input id="inputBlockTo" type="text" placeholder="TO"/></td> </tr> </table> <table class="tableRight"> <tr> <td>Leave</td> </tr> <tr> <td><input id="inputBlockLeave" type="text" name="leave" placeholder="LEAVE"/></td> <td><input id="inputBlockOne" type="radio" name="one"/></td> <td>One</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Return</td> </tr> <tr> <td><input id="inputBlockReturn" type="text" name="return" placeholder="RETURN"/></td> <td><input id="inputBlockBut" type="radio" name="one" checked/></td> <td>Return</td> </tr> <tr> <td><input id="inputBlockSubmit" type="submit" value="Search"/></td> </tr> </table> </div> <div id="flex" class="tabContent"> Test Two </div> <div id="multiStep" class="tabContent"> Test Three </div> </div> <div class="mapBlock tabContent"> <table class="tableLeft"> <tr><td> <div id="map" class="google_map"></div> </td></tr> </table> <table class="tableRight smallTable"> <tr> <td>Distance</td> </tr> <tr> <td>[-------------|------------]</td> //Slider to be </tr> </table> <table class="tableRight smallTable"> <tr> <td>Choice / Choice</td> </tr> </table> <table class="tableRight"> <tr> <td>Show:</td> </tr> <tr> <td><input type="radio"/></td> <td>Price</td> <td><input type="radio"/></td> <td>Button!</td> </tr> <tr> <td><input type="radio"/></td> </tr> <tr> <td><input type="radio"/></td> </tr> </table> </div> </div> </body> Sorry if it's messed up in the whitespacing somewhere.. The CSS: body { font-size: 80%; font-family: 'Lucida Grande', Verdana, Arial, Sans-Serif; background-color: #e2edff; } .container { margin: 5px 5px 5px 5px; padding: 5px 5px 5px 5px; } .pageBlock { /* To future me: This class is for One Full Screen ideas */ min-height: 300px; } .topBlock { text-align: right; color: #000000; } .topBlock a { text-decoration: none; color: #000000; } .tableLeft { width: 75%; float: left; border-right: dotted 2px black; } .tableRight { float: left; overflow: auto; } .smallTable { border-bottom: 1px dotted #c9c3ba; } .google_map { height: 270px; width: 100%; }

  • A star algorithm implementation problems

    - by bryan226
    I’m having some trouble implementing the A* algorithm in a 2D tile based game. The problem is basically that the algorithm gets stuck when something gets in its direct way (e.g. walls) Note that it only allows Horizontal and Vertical movement. Here's a picture as it works fine across the map without something in its direct way: (Green tile = destination, Blue = In closed list, Green = in open list) This is what happens if I try to walk 'around' a wall: I calculate costs with the F = G + H formula: G = 1 Cost per Step H = 10 Cost per Step //Count how many tiles are between current-tile & destination-tile The functions: short c_astar::GuessH(short Startx,short Starty,short Destinationx,short Destinationy) { hgeVector Start, Destination; Start.x = Startx; Start.y = Starty; Destination.x = Destinationx; Destination.y = Destinationy; short a = 0; short b = 0; if(Start.x > Destination.x) a = Start.x - Destination.x; else a = Destination.x - Start.x; if(Start.y > Destination.y) b = Start.y - Destination.y; else b = Destination.y - Start.y; return (a+b)*10; } short c_astar::GuessG(short Startx,short Starty,short Currentx,short Currenty) { hgeVector Start, Destination; Start.x = Startx; Start.y = Starty; Destination.x = Currentx; Destination.y = Currenty; short a = 0; short b = 0; if(Start.x > Destination.x) a = Start.x - Destination.x; else a = Destination.x - Start.x; if(Start.y > Destination.y) b = Start.y - Destination.y; else b = Destination.y - Start.y; return (a+b); } At the end of the loop I check which tile is the cheapest to go according to its F value: Then some quick checks are done for each tile (UP,DOWN,LEFT,RIGHT): //...CX are holding the F value of the TILE specified // Info: C0 = Center (Current) // C1 = UP // C2 = DOWN // C3 = LEFT // C4 = RIGHT //Quick checks if(((C1 < C2) && (C1 < C3) && (C1 < C4))) { Current.y -= 1; bSimilar = false; if(DEBUG) hge->System_Log("C1 < ALL"); } //.. same for C2,C3 & C4 If there are multiple tiles with the same F value: It’s actually a switch for DOWNLEFT,UPRIGHT.. etc. Here’s one of it: case UPRIGHT: { //UP Temporary = Current; Temporary.y -= 1; bTileStatus[0] = IsTileWalkable(Temporary.x,Temporary.y); if(bTileStatus[0]) { //Proceed normal we are OK & walkable Tilex.Tile = map.at(Temporary.y).at(Temporary.x); //Search in lists if(SearchInClosedList(Tilex.Tile.ID,C0)) bFoundInClosedList[0] = true; if(SearchInOpenList(Tilex.Tile.ID,C0)) bFoundInOpenList[0] = true; //RIGHT Temporary = Current; Temporary.x += 1; bTileStatus[1] = IsTileWalkable(Temporary.x,Temporary.y); if(bTileStatus[1]) { //Proceed normal we are OK & walkable Tilex.Tile = map.at(Temporary.y).at(Temporary.x); //Search in lists if(SearchInClosedList(Tilex.Tile.ID,C0)) bFoundInClosedList[1] = true; if(SearchInOpenList(Tilex.Tile.ID,C0)) bFoundInOpenList[1] = true; //************************************************* // Purpose: ClosedList behavior //************************************************* if(bFoundInClosedList[0] && !bFoundInClosedList[1]) { //UP found in ClosedList.   • This program runs but not correctly; the numbers aren't right.

    - by user320950
    this program runs but not correctly numbers arent right, i read numbers from a file and then when i am using them in the program they are not right.:brief decription of what i am trying to do can someone tell me if something doesnt look right. this is what i have to do: write a program that determines the grade dispersal for 100 students You are to read the exam scores into three arrays, one array for each exam. You must then calculate how many students scored A’s (90 or above), B’s (80 or above), C’s (70 or above), D’s (60 or above), and F’s (less than 60). Do this for each exam and write the distribution to the screen. // basic file operations #include <iostream> #include <fstream> using namespace std; int read_file_in_array(double exam[100][3]); double calculate_total(double exam1[], double exam2[], double exam3[]); // function that calcualates grades to see how many 90,80,70,60 //void display_totals(); double exam[100][3]; int main() { double go,go2,go3; double exam[100][3],exam1[100],exam2[100],exam3[100]; go=read_file_in_array(exam); go2=calculate_total(exam1,exam2,exam3); //go3=display_totals(); cout << go,go2,go3; return 0; } /* int display_totals() { int grade_total; grade_total=calculate_total(exam1,exam2,exam3); return 0; } */ double calculate_total(double exam1[],double exam2[],double exam3[]) { int calc_tot,above90=0, above80=0, above70=0, above60=0,i,j, fail=0; double exam[100][3]; calc_tot=read_file_in_array(exam); for(i=0;i<100;i++) { for (j=0; j<3; j++) { exam1[i]=exam[100][0]; exam2[i]=exam[100][1]; exam3[i]=exam[100][2]; if(exam[i][j] <=90 && exam[i][j] >=100) { above90++; { if(exam[i][j] <=80 && exam[i][j] >=89) { above80++; { if(exam[i][j] <=70 && exam[i][j] >=79) { above70++; { if(exam[i][j] <=60 && exam[i][j] >=69) { above60++; { if(exam[i][j] >=59) { fail++; } } } } } } } } } } } return 0; } int read_file_in_array(double exam[100][3]) { ifstream infile; int exam1[100]; int exam2[100]; int exam3[100]; infile.open("grades.txt");// file containing numbers in 3 columns if(infile.fail()) // checks to see if file opended { cout << "error" << endl; } int num, i=0,j=0; while(!infile.eof()) // reads file to end of line { for(i=0;i<100;i++) // array numbers less than 100 { for(j=0;j<3;j++) // while reading get 1st array or element infile >> exam[i][j]; infile >> exam[i][j]; infile >> exam[i][j]; cout << exam[i][j] << endl; { if (! (infile >> exam[i][j]) ) cout << exam[i][j] << endl; } exam[i][j]=exam1[i]; exam[i][j]=exam2[i]; exam[i][j]=exam3[i]; } infile.close(); } return 0; }

  • CSS: move a "float:right" element to top (to align with the first element of the list)

    - by Patrick
    hi, I've a sequence of elements and the last one has css "float:left". I would like to display it at the same height of the first element and not on the bottom of the list. (I cannot change the html code, so it is the last in the list). At the same time, I would like to keep it on the right. How can I make it wich CSS ? thanks Code: <div class="field field-type-text field-field-year"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Year:&nbsp;</div> 2009 </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-where"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Where:&nbsp;</div> Musée Rath, Geneva </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-when"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> When:&nbsp;</div> 25.8 – 27.9.2009 </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-editor"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Editor:&nbsp;</div> Blabla Blabla </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-material"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Material/techniques:&nbsp;</div> contemporary art installations </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-dimension"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Dimension:&nbsp;</div> 2 floors in a neoclassical building </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-artists"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Artists:&nbsp;</div> Blablablabla balbalbalbalba </div> </div> </div> .field-field-year, .field-field-where, .field-field-when, .field-field-editor, .field-field-material, .field-field-dimension { width:300px; } .field-field-artists { width:400px; float:right; clear:right; top-margin: -200px; }

  • Right-aligning button in a grid with possibly no content - stretch grid to always fill the page

    - by Peter Perhác
    Hello people, I am losing my patience with this. I am working on a Windows Phone 7 application and I can't figure out what layout manager to use to achieve the following: Basically, when I use a Grid as the layout root, I can't make the grid to stretch to the size of the phone application page. When the main content area is full, all is well and the button sits where I want it to sit. However, in case the page content is very short, the grid is only as wide as to accommodate its content and then the button (which I am desperate to keep near the right edge of the screen) moves away from the right edge. If I replace the grid and use a vertically oriented stack panel for the layout root, the button sits where I want it but then the content area is capable of growing beyond the bottom edge. So, when I place a listbox full of items into the main content area, it doesn't adjust its height to be completely in view, but the majority of items in that listbox are just rendered below the bottom edge of the display area. I have tried using a third-party DockPanel layout manager and then docked the button in it's top section and set the button's HorizontalAlignment="Right" but the result was the same as with the grid, it also shrinks in size when there isn't enough content in the content area (or when title is short). How do I do this then? ==EDIT== I tried WPCoder's XAML, only I replaced the dummy text box with what I would have in a real page (stackpanel) and placed a listbox into the ContentPanel grid. I noticed that what I had before and what WPCoder is suggesting is very similar. Here's my current XAML and the page still doesn't grow to fit the width of the page and I get identical results to what I had before: <phone:PhoneApplicationPage x:Name="categoriesPage" x:Class="CatalogueBrowser.CategoriesPage" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:phone="clr-namespace:Microsoft.Phone.Controls;assembly=Microsoft.Phone" xmlns:shell="clr-namespace:Microsoft.Phone.Shell;assembly=Microsoft.Phone" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" FontFamily="{StaticResource PhoneFontFamilyNormal}" FontSize="{StaticResource PhoneFontSizeNormal}" Foreground="{StaticResource PhoneForegroundBrush}" SupportedOrientations="PortraitOrLandscape" Orientation="Portrait" mc:Ignorable="d" d:DesignWidth="480" d:DesignHeight="768" xmlns:ctrls="clr-namespace:Microsoft.Phone.Controls;assembly=Microsoft.Phone.Controls.Toolkit" shell:SystemTray.IsVisible="True"> <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="Transparent"> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> <RowDefinition Height="*"/> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <Grid> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="*" /> <ColumnDefinition Width="Auto" /> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal" VerticalAlignment="Center" > <TextBlock Text="Browsing:" Margin="10,10" Style="{StaticResource PhoneTextTitle3Style}" /> <TextBlock x:Name="ListTitle" Text="{Binding DisplayName}" Margin="0,10" Style="{StaticResource PhoneTextTitle3Style}" /> </StackPanel> <Button Grid.Column="1" x:Name="btnRefineSearch" Content="Refine Search" Style="{StaticResource buttonBarStyle}" FontSize="14" /> </Grid> <Grid x:Name="ContentPanel" Grid.Row="1"> <ListBox x:Name="CategoryList" ItemsSource="{Binding Categories}" Style="{StaticResource CatalogueList}" SelectionChanged="CategoryList_SelectionChanged"/> </Grid> </Grid> </phone:PhoneApplicationPage> This is what the page with the above XAML markup looks like in the emulator:

  • What is the right way to scale a Flex application up to fullscreen?

    - by Impirator
    Fullscreen mode and I have been battling for a while in this Flex application, and I'm coming up short on Google results to end my woes. I have no problem going into fullscreen mode by doing a Application.application.stage.displayState = StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN;, but the rest of the content just sits there in the top, left corner at it's original size. All right, says I, I'll just do a stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.SHOW_ALL and make it figure out how to pull this off. And it looks like it does. Except that when you mouse over the individual checkboxes and buttons and various components, they all fidget slightly. Just a slight jump up or down as they resize...on mouse over. Well, this is frustrating, but bearable. I can always just invoke invalidateSize() explicitly for all of them. But for the comboboxes. The ones at the bottom have their menus go off the bottom of the screen, and when I pop out of fullscreen mode, their drop downs cut off half way. I have no idea how to fix that. Can someone step in here, and put me out of my misery? What is the right way to scale a Flex application up to fullscreen? var button:Button = button_fullscreen; try { if(stage.displayState == StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN) { Application.application.stage.displayState = StageDisplayState.NORMAL; button.label = "View Fullscreen Mode"; stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE; } else { Application.application.stage.displayState = StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN; button.label = "Exit Fullscreen Mode"; stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.SHOW_ALL; } invalidateSizes(); // Calls invalidateSize() explicitly on several components. } catch(error:SecurityError) { Alert.show("The security settings of your computer prevent this from being displayed in fullscreen.","Error: "+error.name+" #"+error.errorID); } catch(error:Error) { Alert.show(error.message,error.name+" #"+error.errorID); }

  • Absolute positioning in IE6, using left: 0; and right: 0; simultaneously

    - by Zane
    Here is my website: http://dagwaging.110mb.com/ View it in any good browser, then in IE6. It dies in IE6. It seems that in IE6, one can't do this: div { position: absolute; left: 0px; right: 0px; } or this: div { position: absolute; top: 0px; bottom: 0px; } Absolute positions cannot be set for left and right or top and bottom at the same time. This is terrible, because that is pretty much the basis of my site design. The HTML can be viewed on the site, and the CSS is in /style.css. I'd like to fix this without invalidating my CSS or HTML. Can this be done? Another problem is that my content uses min-width and max-width to avoid over-stretching or compressing the content within. IE6 can't do min-width, so how can I replicate this behavior?

  • mySQL Efficiency Issue - How to find the right balance of normalization...?

    - by Foo
    I'm fairly new to working with relational databases, but have read a few books and know the basics of good design. I'm facing a design decision, and I'm not sure how to continue. Here's a very over simplified version of what I'm building: People can rate photos 1-5, and I need to display the average votes on the picture while keeping track of the individual votes. For example, 12 people voted 1, 7 people voted 2, etc. etc. The normalization freak of me initially designed the table structure like this: Table pictures id* | picture | userID | Table ratings id* | pictureID | userID | rating With all the foreign key constraints and everything set as they shoudl be. Every time someone rates a picture, I just insert a new record into ratings and be done with it. To find the average rating of a picture, I'd just run something like this: SELECT AVG(rating) FROM ratings WHERE pictureID = '5' GROUP by pictureID Having it setup this way lets me run my fancy statistics to. I can easily find who rated a certain picture a 3, and what not. Now I'm thinking if there's a crapload of ratings (which is very possible in what I'm really designing), finding the average will became very expensive and painful. Using a non-normalized version would seem to be more efficient. e.g.: Table picture id | picture | userID | ratingOne | ratingTwo | ratingThree | ratingFour | ratingFive To calculate the average, I'd just have to select a single row. It seems so much more efficient, but so much more uglier. Can someone point me in the right direction of what to do? My initial research shows that I have to "find the right balance", but how do I go about finding that balance? Any articles or additional reading information would be appreciated as well. Thanks.

  • How can I print text fields at the right coordinates?

    - by Milad
    I don't have any background in programming and this is my first shot. I wrote a Delphi program that is supposed to print on a result sheet. I work in an institute and we have to establish hundreds of result sheets every 2 months. It's really difficult to do that and different handwriting is also an important issue. I have this code: if PrintDialog.Execute() then begin with MyPrinter do begin MyPrinter.BeginDoc();//Start Printing //Prints First Name MyPrinter.Canvas.TextOut(FirstNameX,FirstNameY,EditFirstName.Text); //Prints Last Name MyPrinter.Canvas.TextOut(LastNameX,LastNameY,EditLastName.Text); //Prints Level MyPrinter.Canvas.TextOut(LevelX,LevelY,EditLevel.Text); //Prints Date MyPrinter.Canvas.TextOut(DateX,DateY,MEditDate.Text); //Prints Student Number MyPrinter.Canvas.TextOut(StdNumX,StdNumY,EditStdnumber.Text); .... MyPrinter.EndDoc();//End Printing end; end; I can't get the right coordinates to print properly. Am I missing something? How can I set the right coordinates? You know TPrinter uses pixels to get the coordinates but papers are measured in inches or centimeters. I'm really confused. I appreciate any help.

  • How can I direct edge to get out of the diamond on the right?

    - by Didier Trosset
    I have a simple dot diagram to show how to perform tests. PerformTests; PerformTests<---+ PerformTests -> TestsPassed; | | TestsPassed [shape="diamond"]; v | TestsPassed -> Release [label="Yes"]; TestsPassed | TestsPassed -> FixErrors [label="No"]; Y| N\ | FixErrors -> PerformTests; v FixErrors Release The diagram shows square boxes for all nodes, except TestPassed that has a diamond shape. My issue is here. I'd like the edge that goes outside of the diamond for No to be getting out of the diamond at the right (east) instead of oblique down-right (south-east). What I have What I want ^ ^ / \ / \ < > < >---> \ /\ \ / v \ v I've seen such compass_pt in the dot grammar, but cannot figure out how to use it. I what I want possible, and how to do it?

  • Naive Bayesian classification (spam filtering) - Doubt in one calculation? Which one is right? Plz c

    - by Microkernel
    Hi guys, I am implementing Naive Bayesian classifier for spam filtering. I have doubt on some calculation. Please clarify me what to do. Here is my question. In this method, you have to calculate P(S|W) - Probability that Message is spam given word W occurs in it. P(W|S) - Probability that word W occurs in a spam message. P(W|H) - Probability that word W occurs in a Ham message. So to calculate P(W|S), should I do (1) (Number of times W occuring in spam)/(total number of times W occurs in all the messages) OR (2) (Number of times word W occurs in Spam)/(Total number of words in the spam message) So, to calculate P(W|S), should I do (1) or (2)? (I thought it to be (2), but I am not sure, so plz clarify me) I am refering http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayesian_spam_filtering for the info by the way. I got to complete the implementation by this weekend :( Thanks and regards, MicroKernel :) @sth: Hmm... Shouldn't repeated occurrence of word 'W' increase a message's spam score? In the your approach it wouldn't, right?. Lets take a scenario and discuss... Lets say, we have 100 training messages, out of which 50 are spam and 50 are Ham. and say word_count of each message = 100. And lets say, in spam messages word W occurs 5 times in each message and word W occurs 1 time in Ham message. So total number of times W occuring in all the spam message = 5*50 = 250 times. And total number of times W occuring in all Ham messages = 1*50 = 50 times. Total occurance of W in all of the training messages = (250+50) = 300 times. So, in this scenario, how do u calculate P(W|S) and P(W|H) ? Naturally we should expect, P(W|S) P(W|H)??? right. Please share your thought...

  • How to handle Win+Shift+LEft/Right on Win7 with custom WM_GETMINMAXINFO logic?

    - by Steven Robbins
    I have a custom windows implementation in a WPF app that hooks WM_GETMINMAXINFO as follows: private void MaximiseWithTaskbar(System.IntPtr hwnd, System.IntPtr lParam) { MINMAXINFO mmi = (MINMAXINFO)Marshal.PtrToStructure(lParam, typeof(MINMAXINFO)); System.IntPtr monitor = MonitorFromWindow(hwnd, MONITOR_DEFAULTTONEAREST); if (monitor != System.IntPtr.Zero) { MONITORINFO monitorInfo = new MONITORINFO(); GetMonitorInfo(monitor, monitorInfo); RECT rcWorkArea = monitorInfo.rcWork; RECT rcMonitorArea = monitorInfo.rcMonitor; mmi.ptMaxPosition.x = Math.Abs(rcWorkArea.left - rcMonitorArea.left); mmi.ptMaxPosition.y = Math.Abs(rcWorkArea.top - rcMonitorArea.top); mmi.ptMaxSize.x = Math.Abs(rcWorkArea.right - rcWorkArea.left); mmi.ptMaxSize.y = Math.Abs(rcWorkArea.bottom - rcWorkArea.top); mmi.ptMinTrackSize.x = Convert.ToInt16(this.MinWidth * (desktopDpiX / 96)); mmi.ptMinTrackSize.y = Convert.ToInt16(this.MinHeight * (desktopDpiY / 96)); } Marshal.StructureToPtr(mmi, lParam, true); } It all works a treat and it allows me to have a borderless window maximized without having it sit on to of the task bar, which is great, but it really doesn't like being moved between monitors with the new Win7 keyboard shortcuts. Whenever the app is moved with Win+Shift+Left/Right the WM_GETMINMAXINFO message is received, as I'd expect, but MonitorFromWindow(hwnd, MONITOR_DEFAULTTONEAREST) returns the monitor the application has just been moved FROM, rather than the monitor it is moving TO, so if the monitors are of differing resolutions the window end up the wrong size. I'm not sure if there's something else I can call, other then MonitorFromWindow, or whether there's a "moving monitors" message I can hook prior to WM_GETMINMAXINFO. I'm assuming there is a way to do it because "normal" windows work just fine.

  • Given a 2d array sorted in increasing order from left to right and top to bottom, what is the best w

    - by Phukab
    I was recently given this interview question and I'm curious what a good solution to it would be. Say I'm given a 2d array where all the numbers in the array are in increasing order from left to right and top to bottom. What is the best way to search and determine if a target number is in the array? Now, my first inclination is to utilize a binary search since my data is sorted. I can determine if a number is in a single row in O(log N) time. However, it is the 2 directions that throw me off. Another solution I could use, if I could be sure the matrix is n x n, is to start at the middle. If the middle value is less than my target, then I can be sure it is in the left square portion of the matrix from the middle. I then move diagnally and check again, reducing the size of the square that the target could potentially be in until I have honed in on the target number. Does anyone have any good ideas on solving this problem? Example array: Sorted left to right, top to bottom. 1 2 4 5 6 2 3 5 7 8 4 6 8 9 10 5 8 9 10 11

  • Conceptual data modeling: Is RDF the right tool? Other solutions?

    - by paprika
    I'm planning a system that combines various data sources and lets users do simple queries on these. A part of the system needs to act as an abstraction layer that knows all connected data sources: the user shouldn't [need to] know about the underlying data "providers". A data provider could be anything: a relational DBMS, a bug tracking system, ..., a weather station. They are hooked up to the query system through a common API that defines how to "offer" data. The type of queries a certain data provider understands is given by its "offer" (e.g. I know these entities, I can give you aggregates of type X for relationship Y, ...). My concern right now is the unification of the data: the various data providers need to agree on a common vocabulary (e.g. the name of the entity "customer" could vary across different systems). Thus, defining a high level representation of the entities and their relationships is required. So far I have the following requirements: I need to be able to define objects and their properties/attributes. Further, arbitrary relations between these objects need to be represented: a verb that defines the nature of the relation (e.g. "knows"), the multiplicity (e.g. 1:n) and the direction/navigability of the relation. It occurs to me that RDF is a viable option, but is it "the right tool" for this job? What other solutions/frameworks do exist for semantic data modeling that have a machine readable representation and why are they better suited for this task? I'm grateful for every opinion and pointer to helpful resources.

  • Having trouble with projection matrix, need help

    - by Mr.UNOwen
    I'm having trouble with what appears to be the projection matrix. Given a wide enough of a screen, when a cube is on the left and right most edge, the left or right wall will appear stretched to the point that the front face is 1/10 the width of the side. So I do update the screen ratio along with the projection matrix and view port on screen resize, am I safe to assume all the trouble is from the matrix class? Also the cube follows the mouse, but it's only vertically aligned and ahead of the mouse when going left or right from the center of the screen. • Map enum in JPA with fixed values ?

    - by Kartoch
    I'm looking for the different ways to map an enum using JPA. I especially want to set the integer value of each enum entry and to save only the integer value. @Entity @Table(name = "AUTHORITY_") public class Authority implements Serializable { public enum Right { READ(100), WRITE(200), EDITOR (300); private int value; Right(int value) { this.value = value; } public int getValue() { return value; } }; @Id @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.AUTO) @Column(name = "AUTHORITY_ID") private Long id; // the enum to map : private Right right; } A simple solution is to use the Enumerated annotation with EnumType.ORDINAL: @Column(name = "RIGHT") @Enumerated(EnumType.ORDINAL) private Right right; But in this case JPA maps the enum index (0,1,2) and not the value I want (100,200,300). Th two solutions I found do not seem simple... First Solution A solution, proposed here, uses @PrePersist and @PostLoad to convert the enum to an other field and mark the enum field as transient: @Basic private int intValueForAnEnum; @PrePersist void populateDBFields() { intValueForAnEnum = right.getValue(); } @PostLoad void populateTransientFields() { right = Right.valueOf(intValueForAnEnum); } Second Solution The second solution proposed here proposed a generic conversion object, but still seems heavy and hibernate-oriented (@Type doesn't seem to exist in JEE): @Type( type = "org.appfuse.tutorial.commons.hibernate.GenericEnumUserType", parameters = { @Parameter( name = "enumClass", value = "Authority$Right"), @Parameter( name = "identifierMethod", value = "toInt"), @Parameter( name = "valueOfMethod", value = "fromInt") } ) Is there any other solutions ? I've several ideas in mind but I don't know if they exist in JPA: use the setter and getter methods of right member of Authority Class when loading and saving the Authority object an equivalent idea would be to tell JPA what are the methods of Right enum to convert enum to int and int to enum Because I'm using Spring, is there any way to tell JPA to use a specific converter (RightEditor) ?

  • How do I make my page respect h1 css addition? [migrated]

  • Stick element to bottom-right corner (AS3 - Adobe AIR)?

    - by Martti Laine
    Hello I'm creating a simple AIR app with resize-functionality. Of course i need to position a resize-arrow to the bottom-right corner. Here's my code: stage.addEventListener(Event.RESIZE, handleResize); function handleResize(e:Event):void{ resize_btn.y = stage.stageHeight-resize_btn.height; } This doesn't work, my button gets out of the window very quickly. How could I make this work? Martti Laine
