• Associate email account with "Personal Folders" Outlook data file?

  In the process of migrating email servers I've run into an interesting problem: In Outlook 2007 you have the default "Personal Folders" item. This contains the email for the account that was origionally setup with Outlook. My issue is that I have deleted the account associated with that and created an entirely new account. So now I have "Personal Folders" and "[email protected]". However I can't delete "Personal Folders". nor associate "[email protected]" with that PST file. Deleteting it in Outlook (Tools Account Settings Data Files) gave the error "The default data file cannot be removed, because it is your default delivery location. After you have selected a different default delivery location, your current file can be removed." Deleting the PST file itself (outlook.pst) made outlook demand where its default file . would be. So I selected my "[email protected]" PST file and restarted Outlook. Now "Personal Folders" is called "[email protected]", but I still have a duplicate account called this. Which is bad. Worse, my email is associated with the duplicate PST, not the default. How can I associate my email with my default PST or delete the default PST entirely? Luckily I have backu

I would like to know whether it is possible to share this folder or this file simply by giving the url in forum (in a message), so that anyone can download the file, with no need to have an Ubuntu One account. • Is there any reason in a Java program for a special naming for a function arguments?

On the one hand it helps to distinguish parameter from local variable or field further in the function body, but would it help?   Hi. Under Win XP I never touched the permissions of a file/folder. I was happy with the way it worked. But recently I installed Windows 7 on a drive that previously hosted Windows XP. Now, some programs do not have 'read' and/or 'write' access to their own folders - and I am not talking about system folders like 'Program Files' but normal folders like 'C:\my data\my own folder\program folder'. I see that for folders created under Win XP I have some user groups that do not exist for 'normal' folders (folders created by me recently under Windows 7). For example, for the Win XP folder I have: Creator owner System Account unknown(S-1-5-21 blablabla... Admins Users For Win7 folders I have: Authenticated users System Admins Users How should I proceed? Should I give the right to the "Users" account to write to XP folders? Should I make the old folders (the XP folders) to have the same groups of users as the normal (Win7) ones by adding the "Authenticated users" account to those folders? Should I delete the "Account unknown" account from my system? (In this case, how?) Many thanks.

  As programmer’s we know that if we create a temporary file during the running of our application we need to make sure it is removed when the application or process is complete. We do this, but why can’t Microsoft do it? Visual Studio leaves tons of temporary files all over your hard drive. This is why, over time, your computer loses hard disk space. This blog post will show you some of the most common places where these files are left and which ones you can safely delete..NET Left OversVisual Studio is a great development environment for creating applications quickly. However, it will leave a lot of miscellaneous files all over your hard drive. There are a few locations on your hard drive that you should be checking to see if there are left-over folders or files that you can delete. I have attempted to gather as much data as I can about the various versions of .NET and operating systems. Of course, your mileage may vary on the folders and files I list here. In fact, this problem is so prevalent that PDSA has created a Computer Cleaner specifically for the Visual Studio developer.  Instructions for downloading our PDSA Developer Utilities (of which Computer Cleaner is one) are at the end of this blog entry.Each version of Visual Studio will create “temporary” files in different folders. The problem is that the files created are not always “temporary”. Most of the time these files do not get cleaned up like they should. Let’s look at some of the folders that you should periodically review and delete files within these folders.Temporary ASP.NET FilesAs you create and run ASP.NET applications from Visual Studio temporary files are placed into the <sysdrive>:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework[64]\<vernum>\Temporary ASP.NET Files folder. The folders and files under this folder can be removed with no harm to your development computer. Do not remove the "Temporary ASP.NET Files" folder itself, just the folders underneath this folder. If you use IIS for ASP.NET development, you may need to run the iisreset.exe utility from the command prompt prior to deleting any files/folder under this folder. IIS will sometimes keep files in use in this folder and iisreset will release the locks so the files/folders can be deleted.Website CacheThis folder is similar to the ASP.NET Temporary Files folder in that it contains files from ASP.NET applications run from Visual Studio. This folder is located in each users local settings folder. The location will be a little different on each operating system. For example on Windows Vista/Windows 7, the folder is located at <sysdrive>:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WebsiteCache. If you are running Windows XP this folder is located at <sysdrive>:\ Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\WebsiteCache. Check these locations periodically and delete all files and folders under this directory.Visual Studio BackupThis backup folder is used by Visual Studio to store temporary files while you develop in Visual Studio. This folder never gets cleaned out, so you should periodically delete all files and folders under this directory. On Windows XP, this folder is located at <sysdrive>:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\My Documents\Visual Studio 200[5|8]\Backup Files. On Windows Vista/Windows 7 this folder is located at <sysdrive>:\Users\<UserName>\Documents\Visual Studio 200[5|8]\.Assembly CacheNo, this is not the global assembly cache (GAC). It appears that this cache is only created when doing WPF or Silverlight development with Visual Studio 2008 or Visual Studio 2010. This folder is located in <sysdrive>:\ Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\assembly\dl3 on Windows Vista/Windows 7. On Windows XP this folder is located at <sysdrive>:\ Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Local Settings\Application Data\assembly. If you have not done any WPF or Silverlight development, you may not find this particular folder on your machine.Project AssembliesThis is yet another folder where Visual Studio stores temporary files. You will find a folder for each project you have opened and worked on. This folder is located at <sysdrive>:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Visual Studio\[8|9].0\ProjectAssemblies on Windows XP. On Microsoft Vista/Windows 7 you will find this folder at <sysdrive>:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Visual Studio\[8|9].0\ProjectAssemblies.Remember not all of these folders will appear on your particular machine. Which ones do show up will depend on what version of Visual Studio you are using, whether or not you are doing desktop or web development, and the operating system you are using.SummaryTaking the time to periodically clean up after Visual Studio will aid in keeping your computer running quickly and increase the space on your hard drive. Another place to make sure you are cleaning up is your TEMP folder. Check your OS settings for the location of your particular TEMP folder and be sure to delete any files in here that are not in use. I routinely clean up the files and folders described in this blog post and I find that I actually eliminate errors in Visual Studio and I increase my hard disk space.NEW! • How do you persuade users to abandon their personal folders?

  Towards the end of last year we started using Mimecast services, in particular their cloud base e-mail archiving. Since then we’ve been rolling out the Mimecast Services for Outlook (MSO) Add-in. We’ve informed the users that we will be give them training in the next few Months, and we do not require them to use it, but my boss stated that we are getting rid of Personal Folders (pst files), by putting them into Mimecast. Unsurprisingly this did cause something of a backlash. Though really who likes change. I know the IT reasons for getting rid of Personal Folders (inefficient, unreliable, single access, etc), but from an average user’s perspective, unless they have had one fail on them, they see them as simple and only way to archive e-mail when their 200Mb mailbox is full. So what can I say to the users, to get them to understand why Personal Folders are not the best solution?

• How can I use a batch shortcut to open multiple Windows Explorer folders, and a Notepad file?

  I've recently built a computer with an SSD in it (my first) and am in the process of moving a select few of my Steam games to the SSD and symbolically linking them to where they're supposed to be on the main (mechanical) hard drive so that Steam doesn't throw a fit and I get maximum performance. To this end, I'm finding myself repeatedly navigating to both target folders to move the relevant files and opening a specific Notepad file to enter the relevant paths into a template I've got set up that I paste into the Windows command prompt to create the symlink. This is annoying. I've read up a little bit on batch shortcuts, and have a basic understanding on how to use one to open programs and files. However, I'm finding a lot of confusing suggestions on how to use batch shortcuts to open specific folders in Windows Explorer, and none of them deal with opening multiple folders at once. Any assistance on writing the shortcut would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

  Hi all, We are quite stuck with which solution to choose for this backup issue: What should happen: First, there should be an interface were to choose several sql databases (sort of checkboxes or whatsoever), also a few folders should be backed up - this could be part of the program or could be seperate, I think about an interface were to select folders, but a txt file (or xml) with paths-to-folders is as good. Next, everything should be 7Zipped, SQL-DB and files seperate. Eventually everything should be copied to a local network drive after which copied via FTP. Also important; it could be programmed or (partly) bought but I can't be one of those expensive backup tools $1000+ etc. I already found this fairly priced tool that does already most of the tasks 7ZIP and copy to ftp sqlbackupandftp.com For your information: we had a kind of self-made tool created by a collegue (some time ago) but it became very untrustworthy and as the databases grew it couldn't handle it anymore... moving on Please come up with suggestions.   I have a common git "post-receive" script for several projects, and it needs to perform different actions if an /app/ or /public/ folder exists in the root. Using: FOLDERS=`git ls-tree -d --name-only -z master`; I can see the directory listing, and I would like to use the RegExp support in bash to run something like: if [[ "$FOLDERS" =~ app ]]; then ... fi But that won't work if there was something like an "app lication" folder... I specified the "-z" option in the git "ls-tree" command so I could use the \0 (null) character as a separator, but not sure how to test for that in the bash RegExp. Likewise I know there is support for specifying a particular path in the ls-tree command, and could then pipe that to "wc -l", but I'd have thought it was quicker to get a full directory listing of the root (not recursive) then test for the 2 (or more) folders with the returned output.   Is it possible to list all folders/files that a given group has explicit permissions on, for a machine running Windows Server 2003? If so, how? It would be nice to see inherited permissions as well, but I could do with just explicit permissions. A little background: I'm trying to update groups/permissions on a test server. One of the groups, Devs, wasn't implemented correctly when it was created, and my goal is to remove it from the system. It has been replaced by LeadDevelopers, which has permissions on many — but naturally not all — of the same folders. I want to make sure that I don't accidentally orphan any folders or cause any other issues when I remove Devs. It did have some admin-level permissions.

• Is it possible in Gnumeric to paste-special only background colors w/o overwriting foregroudn colors, boldness, etc?

  I've written a huge complex spreadsheet in Gnumeric, with areas of different background and foreground colors, text and numbers in bold or various colors to indicate meanings. Certain cells ise a diagonal pattern combining the surrounding background color with black - this warns me not to alter those cells when I haven't had my morning coffee. Big problem is changing just the background color of an area - to do so wipes out boldness, foreground colors and the diagonal-pattern cells. I use "Paste Special" and choose Format to copy-paste colors from one area to another, or make the pattern of bold/normal of several rows match one that's done right. What I'd like "paste special - just the background colors (but preserve patterns and 2nd colors of backgrounds)" and "paste special - just the text style/fonts" but I've never encountered any such thing. Are the effects I want possible?

  For this question, we want to avoid having to write a special query since the query would have to be different across multiple databases. Using only hibernate criteria, we want to be able to escape special characters. This situation is the reason for needing the ability to escape special characters: Assume that we have table 'foo' in the database. Table 'foo' contains only 1 field, called 'name'. The 'name' field can contain characters that may be considered special in a database. Two examples of such a name are 'name_1' and 'name%1'. Both the '_' and '%' are special characters, at least in Oracle. If a user wants to search for one of these examples after they are entered in the database, problems may occur. criterion = Restrictions.ilike("name", searchValue, MatchMode.ANYWHERE); return findByCriteria(null, criterion); In this code, 'searchValue' is the value that the user has given the application to use for its search. If the user wants to search for '%', the user is going to be returned with every 'foo' entry in the database. This is because the '%' character represents the "any number of characters" wildcard for string matching and the SQL code that hibernate produces will look like: select * from foo where name like '%' Is there a way to tell hibernate to escape certain characters, or to create a workaround that is not database type sepecific?

• How to rename Ubuntu One folders? Locked by syncdaemon?

  tl;dr: Does Ubuntu One detect renamed synced folders? I'm trying to rename a large synced folder ('Sync locally' checked) outside of Ubuntu One, but still inside the home folder on Windows. Attempting to do so results in an error message: Cannot rename foldernamehere: It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again. Quitting ubuntuone-syncdaemon and renaming results in Ubuntu One not finding the synced folder (folder in ubuntuone-control-panel-qt becomes grayed out). Ticking 'Sync locally' again causes Ubuntu One to begin downloading the synced folder with it's old name and ignoring the renamed folder. Is there any way to locally rename a synced folder short of reuploading the entire folder under a new name? Thanks for the help!

  Sometimes Thunar allows 'camel-case' of file names, but only in the immediate folder, not the sub-folders. "Perl module to convert stringt to and from CamelCase" exists in Synaptic, but it is not powerful enough, or am I ignorant? The only way I can reliably do this is with Windows shareware (paid $$): Servant Salamander). That's why all my data & archives are on NTFS partitions. BTW: Synaptic has different entries for 'initialize' and 'initialise'. But I'll mention this in another question.

  Using the 12.04 version. This morning the Update Manager popped up, I clicked it and it said some items will be un-installed and some will be upgraded and new ones will be installed. I did it and restarted. On restart, I entered my password about 5 times and it said it was incorrect. I changed the shell from Gnome to Ubuntu and logged on then changed it back to Gnome and I was able to log on. However, all my folders on the screen are gone but they appear under Desktop in the Home folder. How do I get then back on the screen?

• Advanced searching in Tracker Search Tool? Filter by folders?

  Hi, I have checked several "Tracker Search Tool" questions, but they all stop at very superficial usage. Google, at least for me, didn't turn out anything either. Here is my situation: I have a lot of documents, and I want to index them all, and do fulltext searching on them. I have organized them by folders in advance, and sometimes I want to search across all subfolders, sometimes only in a specific subfolders. Is there any way to do it? Right now, I am changing the locations in the search preferences and triggering a hard-reset of the Tracker database, but that's far from ideal. I am using Maverick, 10.10.

• Sharing between new install and Windows 7 boxes not working, either direction. Printers & folders

  I don't seem to be able to share between my Ubuntu (fresh install) and any of my Windows machines. I tried using this guide: How to Share Folders in Ubuntu & Access them from Windows 7. The problems is that I cannot see the Ubuntu machine in my network pane on the Windows machine. Any Ideas of what I should check? Ultimately what I am looking to do is make mobile media server that I can put in the Van, attach a WiFi router, and stream to an iPad, tablet, laptop, etc. Any advice on setting this up would be appreciated.
