  Hi, I am using netbeans 6.9. I have made a JAX-WS service that returns a complex type, I have also made a JAX-WS client to consume it. The JAX-WS system automaticly creates a class for the client, inferred from the WSDl spec. I want to make my own class for this using JAXB annotations, so that I can add some extra functions to it. How do I go about replacing the autogenerated file with my own one? Could I also use the same class in the service to control how it is transmitted? Thanks!

I know that, in R, functions normally only produce the last thing they evaluate, but I'd like to understand the process better and to learn of any possible workarounds. Thoughts?

  I have a table that contains sales data. The data is stored in a table that looks like this: CREATE table sales_data ( sales_time timestamp , sales_amt double ) I need to write parameterized queries that will allow me to do the following: Return the change in sales_amt between times t2 and t1, where t2 and t1 are separated by a time interval (integer) of N. This query will allow for querying for weekly changes in sales (for example). Return the change in change of sales_amt between times t2 and t1, and time t3 and t4. Thats is to calculate the value (val(t2)-val(t1)) - (val(t4)-val(t3)). where t2 and t1 are separated by the same time interval (interval N) as the interval between t4 and t3. This query will allow for querying for changes in weekly changes in sales (for example).

• Can I mark an Email as "High Importance" for Outlook using System.Net.Mail?

  Part of the application I'm working on for my client involves sending emails for events. Sometimes these are highly important. My client, and most of my client's clients, use Outlook, which has the ability to mark a mail message as High Importance. Now, I know it is callous to assume that all end users will be using the same interface, sp I am not. But considering you can send email from Outlook as High Importance even if the target is not necessarily reading through Outlook, that means that there is basically some data stored... somehow... that lets Outlook know if a particular message was assigned as High Importance. That's my interpretation, at least. The application currently uses System.Net.Mail to send out emails, using System.Net.Mail.MailMessages for writing them and System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient to send them. Is it possible to set this "High Importance" setting with System.Net.Mail's abilities? If not, is there any assembly available which can configure this setting?

• Dollar ($) sign in password string treated as variable

  Spent some time troubleshooting a problem whereby a PHP/MySQL web application was having problems connecting to the database. The database could be accessed from the shell and phpMyAdmin with the exact same credentials and it didn't make sense. Turns out the password had a $ sign in it: $_DB["password"] = "mypas$word"; The password being sent was "mypas" which is obviously wrong. What's the best way to handle this problem? I escaped the $ with a \ $_DB["password"] = "mypas\$word"; and it worked. I generally use $string = 'test' for strings which is probably how I avoided running into this before. Is this correct behavious? What if this password was stored in a database and PHP pulled it out - would this same problem occur? What am I missing here...

• Postback problem? Not getting data back from DB

  I'm not getting back data from my DB like I'm expecting. I know that I can get data from the DB because I have other functions working. With this page, what I'm trying to do is the following: If no postback, then I would like it to echo "No Category Selected" If a category has been chosen, then I would like for it to get that data from the DB and show it on the page.   I am at a point where I need to take the decision on what to do when caching of objects reaches the configured threshold. Should I store the objects in a indexed file (like provided by JCS) and read them from the file (file IO) when required or have the object stored in a distributed cache (network, serialization, deserialization) We are using Solaris as OS. ============================ Adding some more information. I have this question so as to determine if I can switch to distributed caching. The remote server which will have cache will have more memory and better disk and this remote server will only be used for caching. One of the problems we cannot increase the locally cached objects is , it stores the cached objects in JVM heap which has limited memory(using 32bit JVM). ======================================================================== Thanks, we finally ended up choosing Coherence as our Cache product. This provides many cache configuration topologies, in process vs remote vs disk ..etc.

  Hi all, I have a scenario where I need to localized values of objects in my database. Let's say you have an application that can create animals, if the user is english the value of the "Name" property of an animal would be entered as "Cat" in the UI whereas it would be entered as "Chat" in french. The animal culture table would contain 2 records pointing to the same animal in the parent table. When reading values back, if the value of "Name" does not exist in the user culture the default value (value the object was originally created with) would be used. The following diagrams demonstrate how the data is stored in SQL: I'm trying to map this schema to an object model using the Entity Framework, I'm a bit confused as to what the best way to approach the problem. • Exporting query results to a file on the fly

  Hi all, I need to export the results of a query to a csv file in an FTP folder. Is it possible to achieve this within a stored procedure? If yes, comes yet another constraint: can I achieve this without sysadmin privileges, aka without using xp_cmdshell + BCP utility? If no to 2., does the caller have to have sysadmin privileges or would it suffice if the SP owner has sysadmin privileges? Here are some more details to the problem: The SP must export and transfer the file on the fly and raise error if something went wrong. The caller must get a response immediately, i.e. in case of no error, he can assume that the results are successfully transferred to the folder. Therefore, a DTS/SSIS job that runs every N minutes is not an option. I know the problem smells like I will have to do this at application level, but I would be more than happy if all those stuff could be done from T-SQL.

  I have set up my mapping file and classes as suggested by many articles class A { ... IList BBag {get;set;} ... } class B { ... A aObject {get;set;} ... } <class name="A">...<bag name="BBag" table="B" inverse="true" lazy="false"><key column="A_ID" /><one-to-many class="B" /></bag>... <class name="B">...<many-to-one name="aObject" class="A" column="A_ID" />... I added a set of A's to the A table and a set of B's to the B table, all the data is stored as expected. However if I try and access aInstance.BBag.Count I get a null reference exception. I think I missing some key knowledge on how an bag gets instantiated. Thanks

This functions as expected in all browsers apart from IE7, where if I scroll the list to choose a time lower down in the list, the list dissapears.. • JavaScript try/catch: errors or exceptions?

  OK. I may be splitting hairs here, but my code isn't consistent and I'd like to make it so. But before I do, I want to make sure I'm going the right way. In practice this doesn't matter, but this has been bothering me for a while so I figured I'd ask my peers... Every time I use a try... catch statement, in the catch block I always log a message to my internal console. However my log messages are not consistent. They either look like: catch(err) { DFTools.console.log("someMethod caught an error: ",err.message); ... or: catch(ex) { DFTools.console.log("someMethod caught an exception: ",ex.message); ... Obviously the code functions properly either way but it's starting to bother me that I sometimes refer to "errors" and sometimes to "exceptions". Like I said, maybe I'm splitting hairs but which is the proper terminology? "Exception", or "Error"?

  I have a data struct being stored in JSON format, converted using the serializeJSON function. The problem I am running into is that strings that can be boolean in CF such as Yes,No,True,and False are converted into JSON as boolean values. Below is example code. • Completing install of ruby 1.9.3 with Ruby for for Mac OS X 10.7.5 Leopard, Xcode 4.5.2 -- problems with rvm pkg install openssl

I'm a complete novice with programming and I'm trying to get started with this Ruby on Rails tutorial (http://ruby.railstutorial.org/ruby-on-rails-tutorial-book?version=3.2) I have been trying figure this out for about 7 hours now and since I don't have any hair left to pull out I'm turning to these hallowed pages. I have searched for solutions here again and again. System: Mac OS X 10.7.5 Leopard, Xcode 4.5.2 I installed homebrew and have updated it multiple times I used homebrew to install rvm and have updated it multiple times I installed git The standard ruby on the system (checking with $ ruby -v) is 1.8.7 My problem is that every time I try to use rvm to install a new version of Ruby ($ rvm install 1.9.3) I get the following error: Ruby (and needed base gems) for your selection will be installed shortly.   I have a simple (actually simplified :) ) scenario that is possibly the cause for the headache I've been having for the last few days... My current application (that serves 100's of users) currently uses Oracle as the database. I have no stored procs (I wish actually). Now, I've been asked if the product will work if I migrate to IBM DB2 as the database. So, after taking Oracle for granted all this while.... and having re-read Tom's article on MVCC (Multiversion Concurrency Control) and going through this post stating that DB2 is not 'on the list' or 'just tip-toeing in the area' as it were... I know I can't be sure that the product will work with DB2 as is. Is there no hope.. or is there a nice disclaimer I could use.. ?

• asp.net application install folder

  Disclaimer: this is not a question about how to install asp.net or an application using it! Hi! I am pretty sure many of you have once installed some kind of forum, blog or CMS (mostly PHP powered applications). All of these contain a folder mostly named "install" where (after you copied the files to the webserver) point your browser to to complete the installation by entering for example database information (servername, username, password, ...). After that, most applications suggest that you delete this folder or at least change the permissions so nobody from the outside can access it anymore. Now to my question: how would you go about that in the asp.net world? I don't really like the "install folder"-approach and I thought there might be a different mechanism for .net/IIS. The person installing my application should be able to enter his database information as painless as possible, which should ultimatively be stored in the web.config file. If it makes a difference, I am using asp.net MVC. Thanks for your help!

• Is it possible that __doPostBack() would ever send a GET request?

  I'm having a problem with telerik RadGrid, I want to enable multiple row selection. I also want to go to the server whenever a row is selected or deselected. I created a javascript function to handle the Grid's client side events (OnRowSelected, and OnRowDeSelected). The functions look like this: function onOperationRowSelected(sender, eventArgs) { __doPostBack("<%=myControl.ClientID %>", "rowSelected:" + eventArgs.get_itemIndexHierarchical()); } The other function is very similar, the only difference is that it sends the string "rowDeselcted" instead of "rowSelected". On Page_Load I check to see if the request is a Post request using "IsPostBack" and if so, I check to see if it's a rowSelected or rowdeselected. My problem is when I select a first raw on my grid, a Post request happens (which is expected), however, when I select the second row, a GET request is issued, which (obviously) will result in IsPostBack returning false. What am I missing here?

By locks I mean any thread synchronization mechanisms, including Mutex, Semaphore, and even Interlocked, all of them. Is it possible at user level, without calling system functions? Ok, may be implementation is not effective, i am interested in theoretical possibility. If not what is the minimum means to do it? EDIT: Why immutable collections don't work. This of class Stack with methods Add that returns another Stack. Now here is program: Stack stack = new ...; ThreadedMethod() { loop { //Do the loop stack = stack.Add(element); } } this expression stack = stack.Add(element) is not atomic, and you can overwrite new stack from other thread. • Truncate a UTF-8 string to fit a given byte count in PHP

  Say we have a UTF-8 string $s and we need to shorten it so it can be stored in N bytes. Blindly truncating it to N bytes could mess it up. But decoding it to find the character boundaries is a drag. Is there a tidy way? [Edit 20100414] In addition to S.Mark’s answer: mb_strcut(), I recently found another function to do the job: grapheme_extract($s, $n, GRAPHEME_EXTR_MAXBYTES); from the intl extension. Since intl is an ICU wrapper, I have a lot of confidence in it.

• SQLAlchemy custom sorting algorithms when using SQL indexes

  Is it possible to write custom collation functions with indexes in SQLAlchemy? SQLite for example allows specifying the sorting function at a C level as sqlite3_create_collation(). An implementation of some of the Unicode collation algorithm has been provided by James Tauber here, which for example sorts all the "a"'s close together whether they have accents on them or not. Other examples of why this might be useful is for different alphabet orders (languages other than English) and sorting numeric values (sorting 10 after 9 rather than codepoint order.) Is this possible in SQLAlchemy? If not, is it supported by the pysqlite3 or MySQLdb modules, or for any other SQL database modules supported by python for that matter? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

  Looking for a simple SQL (PostgreSQL) regular expression or similar solution (maybe soundex) that will allow a flexible search. So that dashes, spaces and such are omitted during the search. As part of the search and only the raw characters are searched in the table.: Currently using: SELECT * FROM Productions WHERE part_no ~* '%search_term%' If user types UTR-1 it fails to bring up UTR1 or UTR 1 stored in the database. But the matches do not happen when a part_no has a dash and the user omits this character (or vice versa) EXAMPLE search for part UTR-1 should find all matches below. UTR1 UTR --1 UTR 1 any suggestions...

JQuery functions are fired when the related elements are loaded, instead of complete pageload. This is a common practice to call a javascript function when page is loaded like window.onload = function(){ alert("Mindfire") } or Inside of which is the code that we want to run right when the page is loaded. Problematically, however, the Javascript code isn't run until all images are finished downloading (this includes banner ads). The reason for using window.onload in the first place is due to the fact that the HTML 'document' isn't finished loading yet, when you first try to run your code. To circumvent both problems, jQuery has a simple statement that checks the document and waits until it's ready to be manipulated, known as the ready event $(document).ready(function() { // Your code here });

• (php) how to properly 'save' info in forms completed thus far

  So i have a form that on paper is 40 pages long. I was going to take the natural sections of this form, and make separate html forms for each section, with the idea that on the first page there would be a first form, then you hit 'Continue to next section' which essentially is the 'submit' button, which moves the user to section two, etc, until they hit the last section. i am not actually storing the results of the form in a database, but rather sending an email. the idea then is to store the separate form answers (one html form per section in the real form) as arrays or objects in the session, so that if they go back to a section in the form, it repopulates the values they entered since they are stored in the session. the result would be an array in the session storing the results for each of my forms, and i have one form for each section. my question is: is it secure to temporarily store things like SSNs or driver's license numbers as session variables? why or why not?

• Decimal data Type Display scale part as zero

  I have Decimal field in SQLserver 2005 table, Price decimal(18, 4) if I write 12 it will be converted to 12.0000, if I write 12.33 it will be converted into 12.3300. Always it's putting zero to the right of the decimal point in the count of Scale Part(4). I was using these in SQL Server 2000, it was not behaving like this, in SQL Server 2000 if I put 12.5 it will be stored as 12.5 not as 12.5000 what SQLServer2005 do. My Question is how to stop SQL Server 2005 from putting zeros to the right of the decimal point?
