  • C/C++: feedback in analyzing a code example

    Hello, I have a piece of code from an assignment I am uncertain about. I feel confident that I know the answer, but I just want to double-check with the community incase there's something I forgot. The title is basically secure coding and the question is just to explain the results. int main() { unsigned int i = 1; unsigned int c = 1; while (i > 0) { i = i*2; c++; } printf("%d\n", c); return 0; } My reasoning is this: At first glance you could imagine the code would run forever, considering it's initialized to a positive value and ever increasing. This of course is wrong because eventually the value will grow so large it will cause an integer overflow. This in turn is not entirely true either, because eventally it will force the variable 'i' to be signed by making the last bit to 1 and therefore regarded as a negative number, therefore terminating the loop. So it is not writing to unallocated memory and therefore cause integer overflow, but rather violating the data type and therefore causing the loop to terminate. I am quite sure this is the reason, but I just want to double check. Any opinions?

However my php validation says the strlen() is longer than my js is essentially saying. So for example if i type a solid string and it says 0 or 3 chars left till 255. I then click save and the php gives me the length as being 261. Any ideas? Is it to do with special characters, bit sizes that js reads differently or misses out? Or is it to do with something else? It need to return as error message back to php. The stored procedure should return as abc,def,xyz are duplicate. I tried something like this. This will not work it has more than 1 set of duplicate records.     I am designing a custom widget which is basically a QGroupBox holding a configurable number of QCheckBox buttons, where each one of them should control a particular bit in a bitmask represented by a QBitArray. In order to do that, I added the QCheckBox instances to a QButtonGroup, with each button given an integer ID: def populate(self, num_bits, parent = None): """ Adds check boxes to the GroupBox according to the bitmask size """ self.bitArray.resize(num_bits) layout = QHBoxLayout() for i in range(num_bits): cb = QCheckBox() cb.setText(QString.number(i)) self.buttonGroup.addButton(cb, i) layout.addWidget(cb) self.setLayout(layout) Then, each time a user would click on a checkbox contained in self.buttonGroup, I'd like self.bitArray to be notified so I can set/unset the corresponding bit in the array. For that I intended to connect QButtonGroup's buttonClicked(int) signal to QBitArray's toggleBit(int) method and, to be as pythonic as possible, I wanted to use new-style signals syntax, so I tried this: self.buttonGroup.buttonClicked.connect(self.bitArray.toggleBit) The problem is that buttonClicked is an overloaded signal, so there is also the buttonClicked(QAbstractButton*) signature. In fact, when the program is executing I get this error when I click a check box: The debugged program raised the exception unhandled TypeError "QBitArray.toggleBit(int): argument 1 has unexpected type 'QCheckBox'" which clearly shows the toggleBit method received the buttonClicked(QAbstractButton*) signal instead of the buttonClicked(int) one. So, the question is, how can we specify, using new-style syntax, that self.buttonGroup emits the buttonClicked(int) signal instead of the default overload - buttonClicked(QAbstractButton*)?

  • Parsing a JSON feed from YQL using jQuery

    I am using YQL's query.multi to grab multiple feeds so I can parse a single JSON feed with jQuery and reduce the number of connections I'm making. In order to parse a single feed, I need to be able to check the type of result (photo, item, entry, etc) so I can pull out items in specific ways. Because of the way the items are nested within the JSON feed, I'm not sure the best way to loop through the results and check the type and then loop through the items to display them. Now the requirement is if any of the month is missing.how could i show it? for eg: the output of the above query is cycd cm 102 1 102 10 102 11 102 12 103 1 103 10 103 11 103 12 104 1 104 10 104 11 104 12 Now lets say the row with cycd=104 and cm=11 is not present in the table,then the above query will not get the row 104 11. I want to display only those rows. how could i do it?

  • Tortoise svn Subversion Update Error

    Hey All, I recently was working on an open source project... Everything was going great for a week or two but them something happened and I don't know what, and I can't update anymore! I know the url is correct, because I can check it out on my linux server... but when I try to check it out with tortoise svn on my windows box it doesn't work. The error message I'm getting is this OPTIONS of 'http://opensource.adobe.com/svn/opensource/flex/sdk/branches': 200 OK (http://opensource.adobe.com) Does anyone know what that means. The 200 OK part seems odd to me... it connected to the server but wasn't able to get the code? And what does OPTIONS of... mean? I've looked around, and some people were having proxy issues... but i'm not behind a proxy, and I made sure that tortoise svn is not trying to use a proxy. If anyone could help, that would be great!   • Validating Login / Changing User settings / Php Mysql

    Hi everyone, my questions are about login, and changing already saved data. (Q1) 'Till now I've only saved input in the tables of the database (registration steps), now I need to check if the input (login steps), are the same of my table in database, in fact I have 3 types of users, then I'll have to check 3 kind of tables. Then if the input data matches with one of those 3 tables I will redirect the user to his specific area. I'm thinking about saved the submitted data $login=$_REQUEST['login']; and $password=$_REQUEST['password']; and compare with the login column in the database. Then if the login matches, I'll compare the password submitted with the one in the row, not in the column. But I don't know how to do this search and comparison,neither what to use. Then if both matches I'll redirect the user. Else I'll send an login error message. (this I know how to do) (Q2) What if need to change an already saved user ? For example to change an email address. My changing user's data web page is exactly the same like the registration user web page. Can I load the already saved options and values of registration (table user for example). Then the user will change whatever he thinks it's necessary, and then when he submits the new information, they would not create a new row in my table, but just be overwritten the old information? How can I do this? Sorry for any mistake in English, and Thanks for the attention.

For example, in Linux, strip-down to a bare minimum all unnecessary binaries, daemons, utilities, tune kernel parameters, optimize raw and cooked devices (hdparm), place swap space on beginning tracks of a disk, etc. Someday, maybe, Informix can create its own proprietary and dedicated PICK-like O/S to provide the most optimized environment for a standalone ifx server? The general idea is for the OS where ifx sits on have the smallest footprint and lowest overhead impact.

    I'm looking to check whether any of a list of integers fall in a list of ranges. The ranges are defined in a table defined something like: # Extra Type Field Default Null Key 0 int(11) rangeid 0 NO PRI 1 int(11) max 0 NO MUL 2 int(11) min 0 NO MUL Using MySQL 5.1 and Perl 5.10. I can check whether a single value, say 7, is in any of the ranges with a statement like SELECT 1 FROM range WHERE 7 BETWEEN min AND max If 7 is in any of those ranges, I get a single row back. If it isn't, no rows are returned. Now I have a list of, say, 50 of these values, not stored in a table at present. I assemble them using map: my $value_list = '(' . ( join ', ', map { int $_ } @values ) . ')' ; I want to see if any of the items in the list fall inside of any of the ranges, but am not particularly concerned with which number nor which range. I'd like to use a syntax such as: SELECT 1 FROM range WHERE (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 42, 309, 10000) BETWEEN min AND max MySQL kindly chastises me for such syntax: Operand should contain 1 column(s) I pinged #mysql who were quite helpful. However, having already written this up by the time they responded and thinking it'd be helpful to fix the answer in a more permanent medium, I figured I'd post the question anyhow. Maybe SO will provide a different solution?

  • Scheduled Task: Directory cleanup using windows batch script

I would like to use a batch script so that the system admins can easily modify it or reuse it on other directories when needed. The directory has files with multiple file extensions but the ones that need to be deleted end in .bkf and must be over 2 weeks old. Does anyone have a batch script solution for this windows server (not sure which version)?

    I just switched from Eclipse to NetBeans IDE 6.8 for my PHP/Ajax development. Eclipse always showed a little hard disk symbol over the file icon for files that were in sync with the svn repository, and an asterisk for files with changes that have not been committed. Is there a way to see the commit status in NetBeans? If not, what is your preferred way of recognizing which files to commit?

  • How can I prevent the "... has stopped working" window on my Server 2008 R2 dev box?

    I'm using a Windows Server 2008 x64 R2 machine as a development box. Amongst many other things I've got Visual Studio 2008 SP1 installed on it. When I'm working on a project, I sometimes need to use Debug Start without Debugging (Ctrl + F5). If the program throws an exception, I get a new R2-style window appear. I'm pretty sure I didn't see this on my XP box - this is the first time I've developed directly on a server. Is there any way to avoid this - it's really beginning to bug me? E.g. my current project is accessing a WCF service - I'm using Ctrl+F5 to start a console program client. I run it and get the window. The title is the name of the project I've just started and it contains: [insert-project-name-here] has stopped working Windows can check online for a solution to the problem. --> Check online for a solution and close the program --> Close the program --> Debug the program V View problem details. Clicking on "Close the program" will actually close the window and the exception message appears in the console, which is what I want (but without the extra window-faffing). How can I avoid this annoyance?

  • How to change the date/time in Python for all modules?

    When I write with business logic, my code often depends on the current time. For example the algorithm which looks at each unfinished order and checks if an invoice should be sent (which depends on the no of days since the job was ended). In these cases creating an invoice is not triggered by an explicit user action but by a background job. Now this creates a problem for me when it comes to testing: I can test invoice creation itself easily However it is hard to create an order in a test and check that the background job identifies the correct orders at the correct time. So far I found two solutions: In the test setup, calculate the job dates relative to the current date. Downside: The code becomes quite complicated as there are no explicit dates written anymore. Sometimes the business logic is pretty complex for edge cases so it becomes hard to debug due to all these relative dates. I have my own date/time accessor functions which I use throughout my code. In the test I just set a current date and all modules get this date. So I can simulate an order creation in February and check that the invoice is created in April easily. Downside: 3rd party modules do not use this mechanism so it's really hard to integrate+test these. The second approach was way more successful to me after all. Therefore I'm looking for a way to set the time Python's datetime+time modules return. Setting the date is usually enough, I don't need to set the current hour or second (even though this would be nice). Is there such a utility? Is there an (internal) Python API that I can use?

After that either it starts over again or throws invalid disk. Starting over is an infinite loop the only way I see is to choose the "Repair console" but i'm not used to a dos box. Can anyone help me through this harmful instalation? Cheers, Daniel
