  Hi all, I am making a iphone program, I wish that: it can sense and display the current signals of wifi, with strength, - as I checked, this cannot be done by official SDK, but there were some private library that can handle. 2. i wish it can always automatically join the best wifi with the most highest strength ( assume that all wifi APs have no password, and all are not remembered into the used-list inside iphone), which is something like "seamless handover"... I just guess that, there should be some APIs to let the system join one designated wifi signal from the list, and wish someone could help me. I would like to appreciate a lot : ) Thanks a lot!

  I'm writing a simple mod_perl handler that relies on $r-path_info() to do some request routing. However, I find that it's always eating the first part of PATH_INFO when mounted on root. Let's say that the handler just prints the value of $r-path_info: <Location /TEST> PerlHandler MyHandler </Location> Request: /TEST/123 Expected PATH_INFO: /123 Got PATH_INFO: /123 (yay!) <VirtualHost *:80> # or <Location /> for that matter PerlHandler MyHandler </VirtualHost> Request: /123 Expected PATH_INFO: /123 Got PATH_INFO: nothing!   In propel there is this doUpdate function, that will return the numbers of affected rows by this query. The question is, if there is no need to update the row ( because the set value is already the same as the field value), will those rows counted as the affected row? Take for example, I have the following table: ID | Name | Books 1 | S1oon | Me 2 | S1oon | Me Let's assume that I write a ORM function of the equivalent of the following query: update `new table` set Books='Me' where Name='S1oon'; What will the doUpdate result return? Will it return 0 ( because all the Books column are already Me, hence there is no need to update), or will it be 2 ( because there are 2 rows that fulfill the where condition) ?

  Here is a long string that I convert to a list so I can manipulate it, and then join it back together. I am having some trouble being able to have an iterator go through the list and when the iterator reach, let us say every 5th object, it should insert a '\n' right there. Here is an example: string = "Hello my name is Josh I like pizza and python I need this string to be really really long" string = string.split() # do the magic here string = ' '.join(string) print(string) Output: Hello my name is Josh I like pizza and python I need this string to be really really long Any idea how i can achieve this? I tried using: for words in string: if words % 5 == 0: string.append('\n') but it doesn't work. What am I missing?

  I'm using jgit to create a remote in s3. Problem I'm having is when I do a jgit push s3 master it creates the files in s3 as owned by me. I want to keep the files private, and be read/write by 'Authenticated users'. I'd like to be able to either set acl: authenticated-read in the ~/.jgit file OR be able to modify the acl after the push: s3cmd --add-header=x-amz-acl:authenticated-read setacl --acl-private s3://my.bucket/repo/* Neither of these work. How do i use jgit and push to s3 and keep it private, and let anyone with auth read/write?

• Very long tree control inside a <frame>

  I have an tree control inside of a frame. It's quite tall, around 2000 pixels. Right now, we use the frame's scroll bars, which is mostly good. Unfortunately, when you select an item near the bottom of the list, the page reloads and the view goes back to the top of the list. I tried calling the tree control's ScrollNodeIntoView() function, but since we're not using the tree's scroll bars, it just thinks that it's displaying the full 2000 pixels and the control doesn't have its own scroll bar. I'm not much of an HTML guru, so I have two ideas, neither of which I know how to do. 1) Tell the frame to not to let the tree render all 2000 pixels and instead stay inside the viewable area. 2) Tell the tree to not render all 2000 pixels and instead stay within the viewable area. Setting the CSS height property on the within the frame doesn't do anything. Thanks.

  Whenever I see a recursive solution, or I write recursive code for a problem, it is really difficult for me to figure out the time complexity, in most of the cases I just say its exponential? How is it exponential actually? How people say it is 2^n, when it is n!, when it is n^n or n^k. I have some questions in mind, let say find all permutations of a string (O(n!)) find all sequences which sum up to k in an array (exponential, how exactly do I calculate). Find all subsets of size k whose sum is 0 (will k come somewhere in complexity , it should come right?). Can any1 help me how to calculate the exact complexity of such questions, I am able to wrote code for them , but its hard understanding the exact time complexity.

• Really basic Django E-commerce? Where do I start

  I'm trying to set up a really basic e-commerce site with Django, and am trying to figure out the best place to start. I am relatively comfortable with the framework itself, but have never done any sort of e-commerce development in any language, so I want to learn about some best practices so I don't make any huge or obvious mistakes. I've looked at Satchmo, and even went as far as installing and playing around with it, but it looks like way more than I want. I basically want to show users a list of things, and let them click a button to buy one. No cart, no shipping, just click a button, connect with Authorize.net (or something similar) to do the transaction, and then display a confirmation page. Any suggestions or online tutorials people have found helpful? Even perhaps a tutorial in another language. Or maybe a really lightweight Django plugin that doesn't try to do everything like Satchmo? I've been coming up with very little so far. Thanks!

  Let there be class Example defined as: class Example def initialize(test='hey') self.class.send(:define_method, :say_hello, lambda { test }) end end On calling Example.new; Example.new I get a warning: method redefined; discarding old say_hello. This, I conclude, must be because it defines a method in the actual class (which makes sense, from the syntax). And that, of course, would prove disastrous should there be multiple instances of Example with different values in their methods. Is there a way to create methods just for the instance of a class from inside that instance? Thanks so much.

  I have written two small scripts, First one maintains a dictionary of current stock prices for a set of securities. I am using recursion to listen to a named pipe. Whenever there is something available on the name pipe, it updates the security price and goes right back and start listening to the pipe. The second one periodically reads the stock price of some security from the price cache of the first program and performs come calculation. But I have no idea how to make these two programs communicate. I somehow need to make my second programs start the first program and let it run in the background and get the price whenever it needs it. Can someone point me in the right direction? • Plotting 500 US cities to a map

  I have 500 US cities in a MySQL table. I have the city name, state, longitude and latitude. I want to visually see these cities plotted on a map of the US. How can I do this? Are they any free tools available? Google Maps or Google Earth maybe? Obviously, it would take forever to plot each city individually. So I need a quick way of doing it, either through a program or by exporting the table as a spreadsheet and uploading it into some kind of generator that will do the plotting for me. • PHP / javascript live chat using too much bandwidth

  So I am learning about javascript, so I am making a live chat system with PHP and javascript. I have it so the javascript refreshes the log (each message gets logged in a file on the server), and it refreshes every second. Im using firebug to monitor the resource usage, and I see under the net tab each times its updated, and the bytes add up really fast. I know I can change it to update less, but is there a way that when a user on the other end I'm talking to, when the send a message, it gets sent to the server, then an alert gets sent to me saying that the chatlog needs to update somehow. That way it only updates when the log is updated. let me know, thanks

  Hi! I've got a huge problem. I made a special ID for the things in our webpage. Let's see an example: H0059 - this is the special ID called registration number. The last two chars are the things' id. I'd like to cut off the useless characters, to get the real ID, what means strip the first char, and all the 0s before any other numbers. (Example: L0745 = 745, V1754 = 1754, L0003 = 3, B0141 = 141, P0040 = 40, V8000 = 8000) Please help me in this. I've tried with strreplace and explode but failed :( Thanks for the help.

• How can I copy an XmlNode from one XmlDocument to another?

  I'm building a tool that authors/edits XML files, and I want to be able to populate it with template fragments defined in another XML file. For example, the tool has an "Add FooBarBaz Element" button that adds a element to the new document being created, and I want to add FooBarBaz by copying it from a template. Or let's say this is my template file: <Templates> <FooBarBaz Attribute="Value"> <ChildElement/> </FooBarBaz> </Templates> I can then grab a template fragment with .GetElementsByTagName("FooBarBaz"), and I'd like to be able to inject it into the new document with something like .AppendChild(templateNode). But the problem is that an XmlNode cannot be copied from one XmlDocument to another, even if you use .Clone() or .CloneNode(), because AppendChild() throws an exception saying that the template element belongs to another context. Is there an easy way to copy a System.Xml.XmlNode between System.Xml.XmlDocuments?

  Let's face it: You don't need to be a designer to see that default Javadoc looks ugly. There are some resources on the web which offer re-styled Javadoc. But the default behaviour represents the product and should be as reasonably good-looking. Another problem is the fact that the usability of Javadoc is not up-to-date compared to other similar resources. Especially huge projects are hard to navigate using Firefox's quick search. Practical question: Are there any standalone (desktop) applications which are able to browse existing Javadoc in a more usable way than a browser would? I'm thinking about something like Mono's documentation browser. Theoretical question: Does anyone know, if there some plans to evolve Javadoc, in a somehow-standardized way? • Is it a good idea to use only a key to encrypt an entire (small) filesystem?

  This question comes as part of my doubts presented on a broader question about ideas implementing a small encrypted filesystem on Java Mobile phones (J2ME, BlackBerry, Android). Provided the litte feedback received, considering the density of the question, I decided to divide those doubts into small questions. So to sum up I plan to "create" an encrypted filesystem for for mobile phones (with the help of BoucyCastle or a subset of JCE), providing an API that let access to them in a transparent way. Encryption would be carried out on a file basis (not blocks). My question is this: Is it a good idea to use only a simmetric key (maybe AES-256) to encrypt all the files (they wouldn't be that many, maybe tens of them) and store this key in a keystore (protected by a pin) or would you rather encrypt each file with an on-the-fly generated key stored alongside each file, encrypting that key with the "master" key stored on the keystore? What are the benefits/drawbacks of each approach?

• Printer Communication Capture

  If I need to post this elsewhere let me know. We have some old software thats being re-written, that uses a printerdriver to a propriatery printer. I need to rewrite the software bypassing the print driver and go directly to the printer. I do have the specs for the printer communication, thats fine, but what Id like to do is monitor the communications to the printer to view its contents (from the existing software that Im re-writing) and compare it to the specs, and what I will be sending it for validation. I have to make sure Im not missing anything. Any ideas on how I might be able to accomplish this? Thanks

  I have this script that drops the user to an IRB session when executed. All good, but when I use *nix pipes to get the input (e.g. with cat), the IRB session ends immediately. I could reduce the script (let's call it myscript.rb) to the following: require 'irb' if $stdin.stat.size 0 @text = $stdin.read else @text= "nothing" end ARGV.clear IRB.start When executed like: ruby myscript.rb, I end up in the IRB session (as expected). But (assuming foo.txt exists in the cwd): cat foo.txt | ruby myscript.rb will just print the IRB prompt and then the IRB session is closed (I'm being dropped to $bash). Any known workarounds or ideas? BTW: it has the same behavior on ruby 1.8.7 as well as on 1.9.2.

  Let's say we have these four classes: BinaryTree, SplayTree (which is a sub-class of BinaryTree), BinaryNode and SplayNode (which is a sub-class of BinaryNode). In class BinaryTree I have 2 Find functions, like this bool Find(const T &) const; virtual Node<T> * Find(const T &, Node<T> *) const; and in SplayTree I would like to reuse the second one, because it works in the same way (for example) as in SplayTree, the only thing different is the return type, which is SplayNode. I thought it might be enough if I use this line in SplayTree.cpp using BinaryTree::Find; but it isn't. So, how can I do this?

  Let me try to explain by example. Say website is hosted at example.com (NOT www.example.com). In order to serve static content cookie-free, I've chosen to use a different domain example-static.com. Now, lets consider that my static content is currently served like this: http://example.com/js/script.js http://example.com/css/style.css http://example.com/media/image.jpg ** Now I create a CNAME record aliasing example-static.com to my main domain i.e. example.com so that the static content is served as such: http://example-static.com/js/script.js http://example-static.com/css/style.css http://example-static.com/media/image.jpg ** Is that all I have to do? Will all browsers execute JavaScript files and load web fonts without any security concerns? OR should I be using some .htaccess rules to modify header information and the like? PS: It would be great if you can provide what rules should be added, if need be.
