  • what database should i choose ?

    I use winforms to develop a desktop application, and right now I plan to use SQL server express, but the problem is, if i use sql server express, then the installation is much trouble, i need to install sql server first, and install my own applicaiton. Then I tried to use access 2003 as my database, then I only need to copy the mdb file with my application. But the access 's function is not that strong, the text length is limited to 255 byte. Is there any other database solution, which is easy to integrate to my application, and easy to install after i develop my application ? Many many desktop application have their own database, and easy to install and easy to use, what database do they use ?

    I have implemented a new routing protocol named AODV2 in ns-2.35. I am using ns-2.35 in fedora 13. All .cc files have a .o file with them that means recompilation is done. But I am getting an error in response to the 'make' command.   • Tomcat JMX connection - Authentication failed.

    I am having some problems setting up Tomcat for JMX. I added the following properties to CATALINA_OPTS="-Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.port=18070 -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.password.file=$CATALINA_BASE/conf/jmxremote.password -Dcom.sun .management.jmxremote.ssl=false" And have added the jmxremote.password file in to the conf directory. I think what i am confused of is what is classed as remote access. I am running the client program away from the Tomcat instance but both Tomcat and the client tool are on the same machine (i.e. different virtual machines but same environemnt). I thought i had to configure the remote authentication if i access the JMX server remotely from a different machine. By remote access do they mean accessing the JMX server from any VM either locally or remotely?

  • How can I find file system concurrency issues ?

    I have an application running on Linux, and I find myself wanting windows (!). The problem is that every 1000 times or so I run into concurrency problems that are consistent with concurrent reading/writing of files. I am fairly sure that this behavior would be prohibited by file locking under Windows, but I don't have any sufficiently fast windows box to check. There is simply too much file access (too much data) to expect strace to work reliably - the sheer volume of output is likely to change the problem too. It also happens on different files every time. Ideally I would like to change/reconfigure the linux file system to be more restrictive (as in fail-fast) wrt concurrent access. Are there any tools/settings I can use to achieve this ?

    Hi All, In javascript we use input type = file .. to open up a file browser pop-up .. is there a way to limit access to folders .. I want to select a folder then ftp all the files in the folder .. so i need access upto only the folder level and not file level .. i guess it would be tedious to go an manually select every file from the folder and then ftp .. is there a way to do that.. Also, how can i set the file-browser pop-up window path to a default one ?

  • In Java, is there a way to obtain the command line parameters even if main() didn't save them?

    We have a program with a main() that parses certain CLPs but does not save them anywhere. I then have my own plug-in code that needs access to the original CLPs (so I can transmit more parameters) for it. However, I cannot change main() I saw that there is apparently a way to do this in C#, I'm looking for an equivalent Java solution on Linux. UPDATE: Obviously, I'm aware of how main() works. Unfortunately, I cannot change the existing application or the way it is invoked (except for CLPs). I can only access via a sandboxed plugin code. My question is whether there is a way to get the command line (rather then the environment variables with -D) that the JVM was invoked with.

Is it possible that I am trying to access the data to rapidly? I have this function call in a loop, so something like for i in hugelist: #try to get a value from the berkdb #do something with it I am running this with multiple datasets and this error only occurs with one of them, the largest one, not the others.

  • How can I share Configuration Settings across multiple projects in Visual Studio?

    Ok I know this may be a design issue, so I would love to have remarks on that as well. I have a Visual Studio web application solution. I have three projects as UserInterface, BusinessLogic and DataAccess. I had to store some user defined settings and I created configSections in the config file. I access these configSections through classes which inherit from .NET's ConfigurationSection base class. So in short for every project I had a separate configSection and for that corresponding configSection I had a class in that project inheriting from ConfigurationSection to access the config section settings. This works all sweet. But the problem arises if there is any setting which I need to use across multiple projects. So If I need to use a setting defined in UserInterface project configSection in, let say, BusinessLogic project I have to actually make a copy of that setting in the BusinessLogic's configSection. This ends up having the same setting copied across multiple configSections. Isn't this a bit too redundant?

There seems to be tons of articles and ideas, but am very confused and it seems that things are changing as well. A lot say to use offline-access but that appears to be going away. I did find this article. Does anyone have an example using the PHP SDK?   • What are best practices for securing the admin section of a website?

    I'd like to know what people consider best practice for securing the Admin sections of websites, specifically from an authentication/access point of view. Of course there are obvious things, such as using SSL and logging all access, but I'm wondering just where above these basic steps people consider the bar to be set. For example: Are you just relying on the same authentication mechanism that you use for normal users? If not, what? Are you running the Admin section in the same 'application domain'? What steps do you take to make the admin section undiscovered? (or do you reject the while 'obscurity' thing)

  • Does Ruby on Rails "has_many" array provide data on a "need to know" basis?

    On Ruby on Rails, say, if the Actor model object is Tom Hanks, and the "has_many" fans is 20,000 Fan objects, then actor.fans gives an Array with 20,000 elements. Probably, the elements are not pre-populated with values? Otherwise, getting each Actor object from the DB can be extremely time consuming. So it is on a "need to know" basis? So does it pull data when I access actor.fans[500], and pull data when I access actor.fans[0]? If it jumps from each record to record, then it won't be able to optimize performance by doing sequential read, which can be faster on the hard disk because those records could be in the nearby sector / platter layer -- for example, if the program touches 2 random elements, then it will be faster just to read those 2 records, but what if it touches all elements in random order, then it may be faster just to read all records in a sequential way, and then process the random elements. But how will RoR know whether I am doing only a few random elements or all elements in random?

Here's my problem: how do I access the ArrayBuffer with PHP at the server? I'm used to the $_POST superglobal wanting parameters passing from a HTML form so it can be accessed as an array but I can't find any reference for how to access this binary array and stick it in my MySQL database.

This is just a pseudocode kind of example: f (x,y) { y = y+1; x = x+y; } main() { a = 2; b = 2; f(a+b, a) print a; } When accessing variable x in f, does it access the address of the temp variable which contains the result of a+b or will it access the individual addresses of a and b and then evaluate the value of a+b Please help.   • WPF - Binding a variable in an already bound ListBox?

    I really don't know how to title this question, but I need some help with binding to a ListBox. I have an object, that contains (among other information) 2 properties that need to be bound in one ListBox. One of these is an ObservableCollection of objects, called Layers, and the other property holds an enum value of either Point, Line or Polygon, called SpatialType. These are to act as a legend to a map application. I have bound Layers to a ListBox, no problem, but inside the ListBox.ItemTemplate, I need to bind the single variable SpatialType to every Item in the ListBox. The problem I'm running into is that when I try to bind while inside the ListBox, the only variables I have access to are the properties of each Layer and I can't access any properties of the original bound class that holds the Layers (and the needed SpatialType property). What can I do to get that piece of information bound inside the ItemTemplate without messing up a good MVVM architecture?

  • Generating custom-form documents from base-form plus XML?

    Hi all, this is my first stack overflow, and it's a complex one. Sorry. My task is to generate custom documents from a basic template plus some XML without having a custom form design element for each case. Here's the whole picture: We are building a Lotus Notes (client, not web) application for world-wide application access control; the scope is something like 400.000 users being able to request access to any of 1000+ applications. Each application needs its own request form -- different number of approvers, various info required, that sort of thing. We simply can't have a thousand forms in a database (one per application), and anyway their maintenance really needs to be pushed from the developers to the application owners. So instead of custom forms, we'd like to create a generic "template" form that stores a block of basic fields, but then allows application owners to define another block of fields dynamically -- "I want a mandatory plain-text field named 'Name' here, and then a date field named 'Due' here that must be later than today's date, and then ...". I hope this makes sense (if not, think of it as a generic questionnaire application). I pretty much have the structure in place for designing the dynamic fields (form builder GUI - XML-encoded data - pre-rendered DXL for injecting into a form), including mark-up for field types, value options, and rudimentary field validation instructions. My problem is generating a document with this dynamic content injected at the proper location (without needing a custom form design element for each case). Doing the dynamic content via HTML is out. The Notes client web rendering is simply way too poor, and it would be quite a challenge to implement things like field validation instructions, date selectors, and name look-ups. DXL, on the other hand, would allow us to use native Notes fields and code. As a tech demo, I've managed to implement a custom form generator that injects the pre-rendered DXL for the dynamic content into a base form; but as I said, we don't want a ton of custom form design elements. I've tried to implement a way to create a document with the "store form in document" flag set, but once I've created the document from the base form, I can't get DXL access to the stored form design, and so I can't inject my dynamic content. I know this is not something Notes was ever intended to do. Has anyone ever tried something like it (and gotten away with it)? Thanks for reading this far. Shortly put, it's a routine in a MP3 tagging application that takes a track title and an artist and queries Last.FM for the corresponding album, track no and genre.   • IE8 no honoring display:none

    I have the following markup on a page and unfortunately I do not have direct access to it. . This page is opened in an iframe. There is other code on the page but it is not relevant so I have not posted it. The only access to target the code in via css. I want to not display the close button so I added this to the css file img[alt='Close'] {display:none !important;} this is the markup <td align="center"><a href='javascript:window.close()'><img src='v/vspfiles/templates/100/images/buttons/btn_close.gif' alt='Close' border=0></a></td> It works as expected in all browsers that i have tested (firefox, Opera, Safari) but in IE8 it seems to ignore this css and shows the button. Not sure if it doesn't like the selector or perhaps I have a syntax error. Not sure where to go from here.

    Dear all, Based on your experience, which is the route to go for a multi-tenant user login? One user login per account. Which means if there is one user that has access to multiple account, there will be redundancy of record in the database One user login for all account that she has privileges to. Which means one user record has access to multiple account if she has privileges to that account. From your experience, which one is better and why? I was thinking to choose the latter, but I don't know whether it will cause security issue or less flexibility. Thank you for sharing your experience.

  • PHP can be exclusively accessed by SWF

    I'm not sure how to describe this, but basically I have a PHP class file: class HelloHello { public function getSomeData($input_parameter){ // code to retrieve data from the database } public function deleteSomeData($input_parameter){ // code to delete data from the database } } This class is on the server and is part of the backend that connects with a database, and it's meant to be accessed by the frontend SWF only (not to be directly accessed). I've setup Flex to read this class and access it. But how do I make sure that someone doesn't develop a script that can call this php file directly and access its methods? For example using a script to add data in a fast automated way, or use the delete method directly, ouch. Is this a legitimate concern, or this can't be done?
