• Reinstalling Debian Package -manager?

  I have had this problem for too long time: package-manager not working or very unstable, examples here. Now suppose my laptop has very little precious stuff. Is there some easy way to reinstall Debian -package-manager? I don't really have time to fix this problem so I am considering reinstallation of the OS, I have no idea what is causing this repetitive errors with the installers such as aptitude, pip and apt-get. • Insert record into mysql db with Entity Framework

  Hi, the problem is that it will insert a new record in a mysql table, I have already done the mapping of the mysql db and I have already done tests returning data and everything works. Now I read from a file, where there are queries written, I have them run me back and the result of true or false based on the final outcome of single query written to the file. Txt; I did this: using (var w = new demotestEntities ()) ( foreach (var l listaqueri) ( var p = we.CreateQuery <category> (l); we.SaveChanges (); result = true; ) ) but it does not work, I sense that it returns no errors, but neither the result given written in the query. txt file is as follows: INSERT INTO category (id, name) VALUES (null, 'test2') anyone can help me?

• How do I link a VS2008 C++ project as a DLL instead of a LIB?

  I have the C++ source code in a Visual Studio project from another developer that compiles into a static lib. I need to change it so that it builds a dll from that code so that I can call it from C#. I went into the project properties in Visual Studio and changed the configuration type to a DLL. However, it now gives lots of linker errors like: error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol __CAP_Enter_Function XXXFilter.obj XXXFramework What else do I need to do in Visual Studio and in the code to produce a dll from the code instead of a lib? The library is huge so writing a wrapper is not an option. I have the code so I should be able to make it build a dll. I am not a very experienced C++ dev but I am in C# and visual studio. Thanks

• I don't see any stacktrace running webapp with JBoss

  hi everyone. I have some very annoying trouble with jboss. I'm developing simple web-app using richfaces and I'm facing the problem that when I deploy and run application in browser jboss shows just following message: This page contains the following errors: error on line 12 at column 16: internal error Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error. And that's all. No stacktrace! It's so uneasy to search for a source of problem. Could anyone help me to "turn on" stacktracing?

  I am trying to cast data to a struct from a parameter passed into my method, I need the data to be passed to a global variable as it is needed elsewhere in my application. • xCode complitions, spelling checkings stoped

  My xCode 4.3.2 stopped to show up spelling errors and completions for code. The only way to find out if there is any error in the code - build it. xCode colores only keywords such as if, else, for etc. All other code hasn't colored. Shown only a few very strange completions. For example: CGPoint p; p.y // complition is "YES" p.x // complition is "xor" Completions for methods calls are only nearaly used methods. How can I fix this? I rebooted my mac several times allready, and didn't find any staff obout this in xCode's preferences.

• Ruby on Rails when create method fails, render loses local variables

  Hey guys I have a simple create method with some validations and whenever the create method fails due to validation errors it re-renders the 'new' action. The problem is in my new action/view I have a local variable that is established in the action and passed to a partial to render some related information to what the user is creating. Now when my create action fails and I try to re-render the 'new' action I'm getting the always awesome undefined method `cover' for nil:NilClass error. What is the best way to handle re-establishing my action's local variables on a render instead of redirecting to the action again and the user losing the data they input?

• iPhone, special characters in JSON Response

  Writing an iphone app, and I'm getting my data from a REST API that returns JSON. My problem is, some of the data has special characters embedded and Im getting errors. Example: MartÌn Petite-RiviËre-Saint-FranÁois Here is my current code: NSString *jsonString = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:receivedData encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; NSMutableArray *tempResults = [[[jsonString JSONValue] objectForKey:@"getRegionResortsLastUpdatedResponse"] objectForKey:@"return"]; Whenever the data has special characters in it "jsonString" return "(null)", otherwise everything works fine. Is this something I can handle on my end, or does the API need to be modified to output the character codes?

• Why does concatenating strings in the argument of EXEC sometimes cause a syntax error in T-SQL?

  In MS SQL Server Management Studio 2005, running this code EXEC('SELECT * FROM employees WHERE employeeID = ' + CAST(3 AS VARCHAR)) gives this error: Incorrect syntax near 'CAST' However, if I do this, it works: DECLARE @temp VARCHAR(4000) SET @temp = 'SELECT * FROM employees WHERE employeeID = ' + CAST(3 AS VARCHAR) EXEC(@temp) I found an explanation here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1044831/t-sql-cannot-pass-concatenated-string-as-argument-to-stored-procedure According to the accepted answer, EXEC can take a local variable or a value as its argument, but not an expression. However, if that's the case, why does this work: DECLARE @temp VARCHAR(4000) SET @temp = CAST(3 AS VARCHAR) EXEC('SELECT * FROM employees WHERE employeeID = ' + @temp) 'SELECT * FROM employees WHERE employeeID = ' + @temp sure looks like an expression to me, but the code executes with no errors.

  I have two HashMaps and I can iterate both hashmaps with following code Iterator it = mp.entrySet().iterator(); while (it.hasNext()) { Map.Entry pairs = (Map.Entry)it.next(); String firstVal = pairs.getValue(); } Iterator it2 = mp2.entrySet().iterator(); while (it2.hasNext()) { Map.Entry pairs2 = (Map.Entry)it.next(); String SecondVal = pairs2.getValue(); } myFunction(firstVal, SecondVal) Is there anyway to iterate two hashmaps at the same time without using two loops? Currently, I have a method that accepts two parameters and each parameter value is stored in first and second hashmap. I have to iterate first hash then second to get values. I think there must be a good way to do it but I don't know :( P.S: there could be some errors in above code as this is just an example to explain my problem. Each iterator is a method in original program and accept one parameter. I couldn't copy past real time functions as they are HUGE !

• jQuery code works in Firebug, but not on its own

  I'm having quite the brainbuster of an issue right now. I am trying to change a link's hash tag at the end from "respond" to "comments" with jQuery. I have a simple script that should do this, however it does not work. The link does not change. However, Firebug shows no errors and when I run the code in Firebug's console, it works just as I intend. Why doesn't this work on its own? Does anybody have a solution, I'm at my wits edge with this one. • Algorithm for calculating indefinite integrals

  Suppose I have an integral that's bounded on one (or both) ends by (-)infinity. AFAICT, I can't analytically solve this problem, it takes brute force (e.g. using a Left Riemann Sum). I'm having trouble generalizing the algorithm so that it sets the proper subdivisions; I'll either do far too much work to calculate something trivial, or not do nearly enough and have huge aliasing errors. Answering in any language is cool, but maybe someone with better google-fu can end this quickly. :) Is what I'm looking for as impossible as trying to measure the British coastline?

  I have a fresh install of IIS 7 - I just added Web Platform Installer, and PHP 5.2 thru that. However, when trying to access to a simple test.php file (just has phpinfo() in it), I get the following list of errors: • IIS was not able to access the web.config file for the Web site or application. This can occur if the NTFS permissions are set incorrectly. • IIS was not able to process configuration for the Web site or application. • The authenticated user does not have permission to use this DLL. • The request is mapped to a managed handler but the .NET Extensibility Feature is not installed. Any idea of what I'm doing wrong here?

• jQuery doesn't fire some events while I'm not logged in (Joomla)

  So basically, .resize function fails until I log in. What does that mean? And how that can be fixed? Almost all other functions work fine. The site is still in developement, so no live version sadly.   You all know how annoying is this: I do have a log system and the correct error is well explicit there, but I want to give a better message to the user. • I need to debug my BrowserHelperObject (BHO) (in C++) after a internet explorer 8 crash in Release m

  Hi, here is the situation, i'm developping a Browser Helper Object (BHO) in C++ with Visual Studio 2008, and i learned that the memory wasn't managed the same way in Debug mode than in Release mode. So when i run my BHO in debug mode, internet explorer 8 works just fine and i got no erros at all, the browser stays alive forever, but as soon as i compile it in release mode, i got no errors, no message, nothing, but after 5 minutes i can see through the task manager that internet explorer instances are just eating memory and then the browser just stop responding every time. Please, I really need some hint on how to get a feedback on what could be the error. I heard that, often it was happening because of memory mismanagement. I need a software that just grab a memory dump or something when iexplorer crashes to help me find the problem. Any help is appreciated, I'll be looking for responses every single days, thank you.

  Hi I was wanted to do Application witch have a root template view with a nice logo on top or something adn load other views just below (here is what I have right now: Test App ) But I have a little problem. If I'll remove a comment in file TestAppDelegate.m on line 58 //[currentView release]; Application will crash with bunch of errors when I try to switch views. But if I comment this line Project analyzer is telling me that I have a potential leak with currentView variable. Can somebody spare some time and see in that code what I did wrong?

  I want to use a while loop to initialize class objects with a simple incremented naming convention. The goal is to be able to scale the number of class objects at will and have the program generate the names automatically. (ex. h1...h100...h1000...) Each h1,h2,h3... being its own instance.   I have a ~300.000 row table; which includes technical terms; queried using PHP and MySQL + FULLTEXT indexes. But when I searching a wrong typed term; for example "hyperpext"; naturally giving no results. I need to "compansate" little writing errors and getting nearest record from database. How I can accomplish such feaure? I know (actually, learned today) about Levenshtein distance, Soundex and Metaphone algorithms but currently not having a solid idea to implement this to querying against database. Best regards. • Proper error handling in a custom Zend_Autoloader?

  I'm building a custom autoloader based on Zend Framework's autoloading (related question here). The basic approach, taken from that question, is class My_Autoloader implements Zend_Loader_Autoloader_Interface { public function autoload($class) { // add your logic to find the required classes in here } } and then binding the new autoloader class to a class prefix. Now what I'm unsure about is how to handle errors inside the autoload method (for example, "class file not found") in a proper, ZF compliant way. I'm new to the framework, its conventions and style. Do I quietly return false and let the class creation process crash? Do I output an error or log message somehow (which would be nice to pinpoint the problem) and return false? If so, what is the Zend way of doing that? Do I trigger an error? Do I throw an exception? If so, what kind?
