• Complex ModelBinders and being in charge of creating part of the model

  Hi, I've a scenario where I need to bind to an interface - in order to create the correct type, I've got a custom model binder that knows how to create the correct concrete type (which can differ). However, the type created never has the fields correctly filled in. • jQuery document.ready + Asp.Net ContentPlaceholder cause Visual Studio intellisence problems

  Hi! I want to execute JavaScript when document is ready without much syntax overhead. The idea is to use Site.Master and ContentPlaceholder: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { <asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="OnReadyScript" runat="server" /> }); </script> and in inherited pages just write plain code: <asp:Content ID="Content3" ContentPlaceHolderID="OnReadyScript" runat="server"> $("#Login").focus(); </asp:Content> It works fine but Visual Studio complains and gives warnings. Warning in master page is Expected expression at the line <asp:ContentPlaceHolder. In inherited pages warning is Could not find 'OnReadyScript' in the current master page or pages. I tried using Writer.Write in master page to render script tag and wrapping code: <% Writer.Write(@"<script type=""text/javascript"">$(document).ready(function () {"); %> <asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="OnReadyScrit" runat="server" /> <% Writer.Write(@"});"); %> but page rendering terminates after opening script tag is rendered. • Django: Unicode Filenames with ASCII headers?

  I have a list of strangely encoded files: 02 - Charlie, Woody and You/Study #22.mp3 which I suppose isn't so bad but there are a few particular characters which Django OR nginx seem to be snagging on. >>> test = u'02 - Charlie, Woody and You/Study #22.mp3' >>> test u'02 - Charlie, Woody and You\uff0fStudy #22.mp3' I am using nginx as a reverse proxy to connect to django's built in webserver (still in development stages) and postgresql for my database. My database and tables are all en_US.UTF-8 and I am using pgadmin3 to view my tables outside of django. My issue goes a little beyond my title, firstly how should I be saving possibly whacky filenames in my database? My current method is 'path': smart_unicode(path.lstrip(MUSIC_PATH)), 'filename': smart_unicode(file) and when I pprint out the values they do show u'whateverthecrap' I am not sure if that is how I should be doing it but assuming it is now I have issues trying to spit out the download. My download view looks something like this: def song_download(request, song_id): song = get_object_or_404(Song, pk=song_id) url = u'/static_music/%s/%s' % (song.path, song.filename) print url response = HttpResponse() response['X-Accel-Redirect'] = url response['Content-Type'] = 'audio/mpeg' response['Content-Disposition'] = "attachment; filename=test.mp3" return response and most files will download but when I get to 02 - Charlie, Woody and You/Study #22.mp3 I receive this from django: 'ascii' codec can't encode character u'\uff0f' in position 118: ordinal not in range(128), HTTP response headers must be in US-ASCII format. How can I use an ASCII acceptable string if my filename is out of bounds? 02 - Charlie, Woody and You\uff0fStudy #22.mp3 doesn't seem to work... EDIT 1 I am using Ubuntu for my OS.

• Python dictionary formating

  I made a python function to convert dictionaries to formatted strings. My goal was to have a function take a dictionary for input and turn it into a string that looked good. For example, something like "{'text':'Hello', 'blah':{'hi':'hello','hello':'hi'}}" would be turned into this: text: Hello blah: hi: hello hello: hi This is the code I wrote: indent = 0 def format_dict(d): global indent res = "" for key in d: res += (" " * indent) + key + ":\n" if not type(d[key]) == type({}): res += (" " * (indent + 1)) + d[key] + "\n" else: indent += 1 res += format_dict(d[key]) indent -= 1 return res #test print format_dict({'key with text content':'some text', 'key with dict content': {'cheese': 'text', 'item':{'Blah': 'Hello'}}}) It works like a charm. It checks if the dictionary item is another dictionary, in which it process that, or something else, in which it would use that as the value. The problem is: I can't have a dictionary and a string together in a dictionary item. For example: if I wanted blah: hi hello: hello again there'd be no way to do it. Is there some way I could have something like a list item in a dictionary. Something like this "{'blah':{'hi', 'hello':'hello again'}}"? And if you provide a solution could you tell me how I would need to change my code (if it did require changes). Note: I am using python 2.5

• Rails Nested Forms Attributes not saving if Fields Added with jQuery

  Hi I have a rails form with a nested form. I used Ryan Bates nested form with jquery tutorial and I have it working fine as far as adding the new fields dynamically. But when I go to submit the form it does not save any of the associated attributes. However if the partial builds when the form loads it creates the attribute just fine. I can not figure out what is not being passed in the javascript that is failing to communicate that the form object needs to be saved. • What are best practices for collecting, maintaining and ensuring accuracy of a huge data set?

  I am posing this question looking for practical advice on how to design a system. Sites like amazon.com and pandora have and maintain huge data sets to run their core business. For example, amazon (and every other major e-commerce site) has millions of products for sale, images of those products, pricing, specifications, etc. etc. etc. Ignoring the data coming in from 3rd party sellers and the user generated content all that "stuff" had to come from somewhere and is maintained by someone. It's also incredibly detailed and accurate. How? How do they do it? Is there just an army of data-entry clerks or have they devised systems to handle the grunt work? My company is in a similar situation. We maintain a huge (10-of-millions of records) catalog of automotive parts and the cars they fit. We've been at it for a while now and have come up with a number of programs and processes to keep our catalog growing and accurate; however, it seems like to grow the catalog to x items we need to grow the team to y. I need to figure some ways to increase the efficiency of the data team and hopefully I can learn from the work of others. Any suggestions are appreciated, more though would be links to content I could spend some serious time reading. THANKS! Kyle

But what will happen if I try to transfer a 4G file? will it load the whole file in memory in order to compress it? or otherwise it will compress it chunk by chunk? • Creating a horizontal fluid layout in css that works like a table

  Basically what i am after is a fluid solution in css, that is similar to the table layout below.The principal behind this layout is 3x3 grid where by a user can add content into the first fluid area and it will expand the complete width of the page. But if that user decides that he wants content in the 2nd and 3rd area, all 3 td's fill up 33% of the width. • How do I stop inheritance in xaml?

  Hi Let's say I have some Control that has been disabled. It contains a bunch of elements, but I want one of those child elements to remain enabled. Something like this: <ContentControl IsEnabled="False"> <Border> <Button Content="Button" IsEnabled="True"/> </Border> </ContentControl> So in this example, the Button's IsEnabled="True" setting gets overridden by its parent. Is there a way of stopping this from happening? This seems like a strange thing to be doing, but I have a situation where, when a Control is disabled and a user mouses down on it, I still want an event to be triggered. I read in WPF Unleashed that wrapping something in a Frame control, "..isolates the content from the rest of the UI [and] properties that would normally be inherited down the element tree stop when they reach the Frame", but wrapping the Button in the example above in a Frame doesn't work. Am I on the wrong track here?

• UIScrollView without paging but with touchesmoved

  I have a UIScrollView that I use to display PDF pages in. I don't want to use paging (yet). I want to display content based on touchesmoved event (so after horizontal swipe). This works (sort of), but instead of catching a single swipe and showing 1 page, the swipe seems to gets broken into 100s of pieces and 1 swipe acts as if you're moving a slider! I have no clue what am I doing wrong. • Binding WPF menu items to WPF Tab Control Items collection

  I have a WPF Menu and a Tab control. I would like the list of menu items to be generated from the collection of TabItems on my tab control. I am binding my tab control to a collection to generate the TabItems. I have a TabItem style that uses a ContentPresenter to display the TabItem text in a TextBlock. When I bind the tab items to my menu the menu items are blank. I assume the menu items are looking for the Header property of the TabItems which I am not using. Is there a workaround for my scenario? Is it possible to bind to the Header property of the tab item, when I do not know the number of tabs in advance? Below is a copy of my xaml declarations.   I'm considering writing a simple web scraping application to extract information from a website that does not seem to specifically prohibit this. I've checked for other alternatives (eg RSS, web service) to get this information, but there are none available at this stage. Despite this I've also developed/maintained a few websites myself and so I realize that if web scraping is done naively/greedily it can slow things down for other users and generally become a nuisance. So, what etiquette is involved in terms of: Number of requests per second/minute/hour. HTTP User Agent content. HTTP Referer content. HTTP Cache settings. Buffer size for larger files/resources. Legalities and licensing issues. Good tools or design approaches to use. Robots.txt, is this relevant for web scraping or just crawlers/spiders? Compression such as GZip in requests. • ASIHTTPRequest POST splits up header + data?

  Hi, I am using ASIHTTPRequest to POST data to a remote server on iPhone 4.2.1. Apparently the server is not presently equipped to parse this correctly, so I am trying to work around it. If I setup a proxy between iPhone and my Mac and run Paros (to see packets), the problem goes away. Paros combine the header and data so that it is all acquired by the server in a single socket read. I've tried a few things suggested in other posts including disabling persistent connections, but I am not having any luck. I've also tried doing a ASIHTTPFormRequest, but the server does not like the generated data format. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

  Trying to mirror a local intranet site and have found previous questions using 'wget'. It works great with sites that are anonymous, but I have not been able to use it against a site that is expecting username\password (IIS with Integrated Windows Authentication). This webservice is password enabled. that means i have used org.apache.cxf.ws.security.wss4j.WSS4JInInterceptor for security purpose. Now i want to call this webservice from php. but i am not able to do so. • Fancybox "close" hangs/delays in IE7/8

  I'm having an issue with IE7/8 only on a development site: when closing the Fancybox, there is a major delay, sometimes about ten seconds or so, sometimes much longer (like a minute). Some things that might be relevant: • Using fancybox 1.3.1 • Works perfectly on all other browsers (FF, Safari, Opera, Chrome) • The loaded iframe contains a flash "virtual tour" • There are no errors reported in IE's Dev Toolbar or in DebugBar • The fancybox renders perfectly in IE, and after it has closed, there is not a problem loading it again. The closing seems to be the only issue. (That, and that it crashed the client's browser once, but I'm inclined to believe that had more to do with the content of the iframe than fancybox). I changed the link to the iFrame to something simpler (google), and it closed with no problem. So it does seem to have something to do with a conflict with the content of the iframe. • Indy IdSMTP and attachments in Thunderbird

  Hello! Using the latest snapshot of Indy tiburon on D2010. A very simple project like: var stream: TFileStream; (s is TidSMTP and m is TidMessage) begin s.Connect; Stream := TFileStream.Create('c:\Test.zip', fmOpenRead or fmShareExclusive); try with TIdAttachmentMemory.Create(m.MessageParts, Stream) do begin ContentType := 'application/x-zip-compressed'; Name := ExtractFilePath('C:\'); //' FileName := 'Test.zip'; end; finally FreeAndNil(Stream); end; s.Send(m); s.Disconnect(); end; Everything works Ok in Outlook, The bat!, OE, yahoo, etc... but in Thunderbird the attachment is not shown. Looking at the source of the message in Thunderbird, the attachment is there. The only difference I can find between messages send by indy and other clients is that Indy messages have this order: Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="Z\=_7oeC98yIhktvxiwiDTVyhv9R9gwkwT1" MIME-Version: 1.0 while any other clients have the order: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="Z\=_7oeC98yIhktvxiwiDTVyhv9R9gwkwT1" Don't know if THAT is the source of the problem, but if so: is this a bug on Thunderbird or is this a problem with indy which "malforms" the headers of the messages? Is this order a problem? Does that matter anyway?

• Flash CS3/AS3 - How to Mask Nested MovieClips in External Classes

  I have a number of external class files that make up (or are trying to build) a portfolio. One of the class files for this project is a Menu.as class I tried extends, but I'm yet to use extends to where it doesn't become a ball of tangled holiday cheer. So my main portfolio class (the one where I'm assembling everything) calls an instance of the Menu class. From the Preloader through the Portfolio class into the Menu class is where I'm passing the content because I want to package things properly. This is Menu content, so naturally I want to position it in a properly names spot. I'm trying to reveal this Menu in a mask and I'm getting the old #1009 error. In a trace, this will work: trace(site_mc.menu_mc.mainMask_mc); // returns [object mainMask_mc_4] However, when I try to truncate the string into a single compact_mc... compactMenu_mc = site_mc.menu_mc.mainMask_mc; trace(compact_mc); // it won't trace (#1009). I said to hell with it, but now I need to have one MovieClip mask another. So I figure I can't go all... parent.parent.parent.clip_mc.mask = parent.parent.parent.masked_mc Probably because of datatyping and whatever else. I hate to be vague, but I'm new and have been working like gangbusters for days to get this portfolio up. Any suggestions or pointers on things my noob brain might've missed are given much thanks. :)

• Synchronize pasteboard between remote tmux session and local Mac OS pasteboard

  Setup: I use iTerm2 on MacOS to connect to a remote server. The remote server runs tmux, in which I open files and edit in vim sessions. Problem: I can't copy/paste between the remote tmux session and the local iTerm client. I can use iTerm 2's alt/option + mouse selection to select text, but this copies over multiple vim panes/tmux panes - bad. Is there any elegant solution to make selections in tmux panes synchronize between the remote pasteboard and the local (MacOS pasteboard)? I've seen reattach-to-user-namespace, but I'm pretty certain it doesn't do what I want.

• Sun Grid Engine: Automatically Terminating Idle Interactive Jobs

  We're considering using Sun Grid Engine on a small compute cluster. Right now, the current set up is pretty crude and just involves having people ssh to an open machine to run their jobs. We'd like to allow interactive jobs, since that should ease the transition from manually starting jobs to starting them using qsub. But, there is some concern that, if we do, people might accidentally leave their interactive sessions idle and block other jobs from being run on the machines. The issue isn't just theoretical, since we previously tried using OpenPBS and there was a problem with people opening up an interactive job in a screen session and essentially camping on a machine. Is there anyway to configure SGE to automatically kill idle interactive jobs? It looks like this was requested as an enhancement (Issue #:2447) way back in 2007. But, it doesn't seem like the request ever got implemented.

• Using jQuery.UI CSS Framework for DIV Styling

  Hi folks, a Project I am currently working on uses the jQuery UI framework for some of its widgets. To provide the user with a global look and feel I would like to use the framework also for its css stuff. I am implementing at the moment a dashboard like homepage, where the user can see an overall status of its data. This dashboard is build of some divs that should be aligned into a grid layout. I try to style the divs like follows <div class="ui-widget"> <div class="ui-widget-header">Box Header</div> <div class="ui-widget-content"> Content of the Box </div> </div> Later I would like to implement some draggable-and-sortable functionality. The Problem I am facing right now is that the boxes aren't properly aligned. Does anyone has a hint on using jQuery.UI for that kind of css work? I was studing the CSS framework documentation on jqueryui.com but there aren't that much information. best regards, Gordon
