• Un-table a cell range in Excel 2007

  In Excel 2007, if you highlight a block of cells and then "Format as Table", it doesn't just apply colors and formatting, it somehow marks those cells as being a table. Now I want to get rid of the table, but keep all the cells (i.e. keep the data). So I tried clearing the table style and formatting, but Excel still recognizes those cells as being a table. I can tell because: When I select a cell that was in the table, Excel still displays the "Table Tools / Design" tab I cannot merge cells that were in the table <- this is what's annoying me So, how do I un-table those cells? I want to keep all the cell data and formatting, but have Excel not recognize them as a table.

• Can GoogleApps exist with Exchange 2003

  I am looking at the next step in our Groupware solutions. Rather got with a conventional add a new MS Server/MS Exchange to allow for growth and expanding offices. Could an Office operate with both an existing Exchange server setup and migrate a portion of mailboxes to the GoogleApps platform? I want to see if the we could use the GoogleApps for managers and larger mailboxes, and leave a large amount of small mailboxes on the existing hardware that is configured for Exchange/outlook? Can the two co-exist in an longterm configuration, where they can 'play nice' together? Is there any options that would allow for for this and would this have limitations? Such as the Free/busy connectors (Calendaring)? Is there any pitfalls for this type of design? Thanks

• Minix3 on Vmware

  Hi, I install minix3 on vmware using installation CD i make using .iso image which is available @minix3 I make 2GB Harddisk, 512MB RAM on VMware, and installed step-by-step. It got installed and working fine. But i wana install 'packman' which is X window system. I'm not able to install it. It asks for installation CD, its still there and its detected also, but i couldn't proceed. Actually i install minix to learn Operating system design and Implementation :) Have any1 tried installing 'packman' i.e X window system on minix3. Please guide me. :)

• Rules to choose hardware for OLTP systems (sql server)

  Ok. We know database size, number of concurrent users, number of transactions per minute; should choose number of processors, RAID, RAM, mirroring and clustering. There are no exact rule.. but may be there are no rules at all? In my practice in every case I have "legacy" system, and after some inspections and interview I can form an opinion how hardware and design can be improved. But every time when I meet "absolutely" new system (I guess there are no new systems, but sometimes are such tasks) I can't say anything trustful. So I'm interesting how people deal with such tasks? They map task on theirs experience or have some base formulas?

• Software to draw custom street maps?

  I'm looking for any (Windows) software that allows me to draw custom street maps. I'm not looking for something that displays existing maps from real places, but something that allows me to define my own map. Obviously this can be achieved through any graphics program however I am wondering if there's a software which makes it almost drag-drop easy to create your own maps of visual quality to that of Open Street Maps, Google Maps, street directories etc. Preferably an offline desktop app with attention on design rather than complex geospacial specifics. Context: I want to make a detailed street map for a game I'm making.

• Active DFS node did not restore after failure

  On Tuesday we had a Server 2008 R2 DFS-R node go offline unexpectedly. DFS did the right thing and started routing requests to a different node, which was in a remote site. This is by design, because even though it's slow, at least it's still working. We had the local DFS-R node back online within an hour, and it had synced all its changes 10 minutes after that. 3 of the 5 terminal servers reset themselves to the local DFS node, but the other two stayed pointing at the remote DFS node for three days, until someone finally piped up about how slow requests were. What reasons could there be why some, but not all, of the server reverted? Is the currently active DFS node for a namespace exposed anywhere in the OS (WMI, or even scripts) so that we can monitor the active nodes?

• Help with proposed iSCSI SAN VMware implementation.

  We have four (with plans to grow to four more) Dell servers with 6 NICs. They are running VMware ESXi 4.1. We would like to connect all of them to an Openfiler iSCSI SAN via HP ProCurve 1810G switches. Based on the design below, is there anything I should be concerned about or anything unusual that I should look out for when making the iSCSI network configurations on the servers, switches and OpenFiler? Should I bond the connections on the servers or simply setup them up for failover? The primary goal is to maximize IOPS. Thanks in advance.

• Monitor Bonded Interface for Disconnection

  I am trying to monitor for network failures on a machine, and one portion of that is to monitor interfaces that are intended to be active also be "RUNNING". An Ethernet port, such as eth0, will say "RUNNING" if it is physically connected to another device. The problem lies in the bonded interfaces, such as bond0. If all of the ethernet devices are disconnected, it still says that it is running, and it is still pingable. Is this by design, or is my system setup incorrectly? Does the miimon option have something to do with this?

A new client has asked me to host their site and I've been given the following configuration requirement: Apache 2.2.3 PHP 5.2.17 MySQL 5.0.77 Image Magick 6.5.1-0 (not as an Apache module) Ghostscript 8.7 Checking php_info() I have: Apache 2.2.3 PHP 5.2.14 MySQL 5.0.90 I don't have IM or GS listed. I expect that my versions of PHP and MySQL are similar enough to work, but how do I get my server set up to work with this client's site as well?

• Windows global shortcut hijacked by Opera

  I have Chrome 37 installed as my main browser. Recently I needed to test a design in a new, Chromium based Opera version 21.0.1432.67. This later one hijacked my global shortcuts somehow, so if I press Ctrl+Shift+N to start a new session for testing, even if Chrome is running, and it is the active window, the shortcut starts a new Opera tab - even if the program is not running. It is highly annoying. Even if I uninstall Opera, I'm unable to use the aforementioned shortcut, because it will not work at all. Any hints on how to restore the original shortcut?

• Outlook 2010: When sending message on behalf of someone else, store that message in the other person's Sent Items folder

  We have an e-mail account for support purposes which is tended to by multiple members of the team. When answering a support e-mail we obviously choose the support account as sender. Still, the answer is not stored in the support account's Sent Items folder, but in the Sent Items of the person actually answering. This behavior, which seems to be by design, prevents others from gaining access to the entire conversation and potentially causes multiple answers. I am looking for an automated way of moving e-mails sent on behalf of someone else to that person's Sent Items folder. I tried to create a rule for this but could not find the right setting.

  I am currently looking for a new hosting company for my business. We are a design and development company and have been recommending WestHost to our clients for the last several years. However due to some changes they have implemented in the last year, we have decided to start referring people elsewhere. Most of our clients need affordable Linux hosting with the basics. SSH is also a definite must and 24/7 support (preferably phone, as well as email/ticket system) that won't cost extra. An easy to use and understand control panel would be nice as well. I have heard good things about HostGator, and am wondering if anyone has experience with them. The prices seem right and they have everything we need. We are also thinking of purchasing a dedicated server with them for a specific project that's going to require one. I don't know if I am asking this in the right place, if this is not welcome here please let me know.

  I'm getting really confused, reading tutorials from SAMBA howto, which is hell of a mess. Could you write step-by-step, what events happen upon NetLogon? Or in particular, I can't get these things: I really can't get the mechanism of action of LDAP and its role. Should I think of Active Directory LDS as of its superset? What're the other roles of AD and why this term is nearly a synonym of term "domain"? What's the role of LDAP in the remote login sequence? Does it store roaming user profiles? Does it store anything else? How it is called (are there any upper-level or lower-level services that use it in the course of NetLogon)? How do I join a domain. On the client machine I just use the Domain Controller admin credentials, but how do I prepare the Domain Controller for a new machine to join it. What's that deal of Machine trust accounts? How it is used? Suppose, I've just configured a machine to join a domain, created its machine trust, added its data to the domain controller. How would that machine find WINS server to query it for Domain Controller NetBIOS name? Does any computer name, ending with <1C type, correspond to domain controller? In what cases Kerberos and LM/NTLM are used for authentication? Where are password hashes stored in, say, Windows2000 domain controller? Right in the registry? What is SAM - is it a service, responsible for authentication and sending/storing those passwords and accompanying information, such as groups policies etc.? Who calls it? Does it use Active Directory? What's the role of NetBIOS except by name service? Can you exemplify a scenario of its usage as a "datagram distribution service for connectionless communication" or "session service for connection-oriented communication"? • OpenSCAD keeps crashing when I raise my precision past $fn=29?

  Out of the blue, OpenSCAD decided to stop working for me on designs that previously rendered just fine. After playing around I found out that any time I use a precision greater than $fn=29 the program crashes with the message "openscad.exe has stopped working". I can use any precision 29 and below, but the second I adjust it to even 30 the program crashes. This is a major problem as before I was using a precision of 100, and without it the design's moving parts do not work on print. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program several times and haven't been able to fix the problem. I have watched the CPU during the calculations and it never reaches more than 35%. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this problem? I also have not changed computers or even the code. Thanks! I am using Windows 32 bit, Version 2013.06. The default version from the website.

• Color Calibrate Dual Monitor XP SP2

  This topic has been touched on before but not really answered. I have a dual monitor system and the colors differ wildly. I currently live Buenos Aires where color correction hardware costs premium prices. I do some graphic design, but don't require a pro-level calibration. That said, I'd like my monitors to be set as close to "true color" as possible. I've located the useful and free Monitor Calibration Wizard, but it seems to adjust the entire system internally at startup. I could use the Microsoft Color Control Panel Applet to set a different ICC or ICM profile for each monitor, but the Monitor Calibration Wizard outputs its own format for profiles.

• Resilient Linux Mail Server Setup

  How would people design a resilient mail server setup with Linux? On an application level what the system needs to provide is both an incoming and outgoing mail service (i.e. SMTP & IMAP), along with filtering and archive storage (the archive part isn't critical yet, so we'll look at this later probably). What is required on top of this is a resilient system, i.e. one which will handle individual server failures without interrupting service. As such I would term this a High Availability mail system. This is in contrast to a High Performance mail setup, as in our case the volume of mail being handled isn't the important factor, it's simply that it stays online. Having not approached this problem before, the first thing I thought of was a clustered file system (gfs/gluster/etc), combined with heartbeat to failover a floating IP to another box in the case of a server failure. Combined with postfix & dovecot does this sound feasible to people?

• Is there a software package that safely allows SSH via web on simple web host?

  I want to be able to use a secured web page on my shared web host to make SSH connections out to any destination. A shared web host is cheap and easy to maintain, and usually allows ssh to the web server. There are times I'd like to ssh into my web server, but don't have direct ssh connectivity. I'm aware of consoleFISH, Ajaxterm, and Anyterm. The problem is consoleFISH is a man-in-the-middle by design, and Ajaxterm/Anyterm require running a daemon process on the hosting server. Web hosts can usually support cron jobs, but not continuously running daemon processes. Additional Apache modules are usually out, too, as they require reconfiguration of the server and affects all other customers. Are there any software packages out there I can run on my shared web hosting account that provide a true ssh experience with these limitations?

  Hi, I have a web application written by asp.net (c#) sql server 2005. we host it on 2 dedicated server ( IIS and SQL server ) From some month ago , in some days of week we have many reports about speed issue. we have some other application on this server using same database. when we have speed problem all aplication on these server have this problem, but applications on other server in same data center work correctly. ram and cpu usage are ok. how can I check that the problem related to internet connection or my application design? which parameters must be checked. Some other information In applications users can upload several files to server , each file up to 3 MB. we use a sql web admin application, on same server that has same problem, this is a standard application which work perfectly on other servers. • Big noise from Power Supply Unity Fa? Should I replace it immediately?

  Recently, I started to get a large noise from my PC when switched on. After some time, it disappears. I discovered that the issue is with the Power Supply Unit. Does this mean I have a failing PSU? Will it harm the PC if I didn't replace it immediately? Several years ago I bought a new computer casing which is very weird. Its small and compact. Normally, we have the PSU in the top. But in here, the PSU is on the bottom and right below the hard drive. Recently, two of my hard drives started to show problems. Read errors and bad sectors.   All my life I used Microsoft Office on Windows for document writing and then Libre(Open)Office on Linux. This is not a bad software, but not perfect and I have some complaints. Now on my usual desktop I have Linux. I heard from people who work a lot with documents of different type and complexity (diagrams, articles, document design, presentation) that latex is a perfect thing. I have spent two days exploring Latex and my opinion as a beginner that it is out-of-date (the concepts of Latex language). The language is not intuitive and sometimes even complex. Can somebody advise another software product for document writing?

• How can I audit a Linux filesystem for files which have been changed or added within a specific time

  We are a website design/hosting company running several sites on a Linux server using Joomla 1.5.14 and recently someone was able exploit a vulnerability in the RW Cards component to write arbitrary files/modify existing files on our filesystem enabling them to do some nasty things to our customers sites. We have removed vulnerable modules from all sites but are still seeing some problems. We suspect that they still have some scripts installed and need a way to audit anything that has been changed or added in the last 10 days. Is there a command or script we can run to do this?

• How Can I Set the OS X Dock to Show Instantly Instead of Waiting Half a Second in Snow Leopard?

  Having a MacBook Pro 13" I find myself trying to maximize the screen real estate constantly which have led me to put the dock at the right hand corner of the screen. Now in an attempt to save a few more pixels I decided to give autohiding of the dock a go and ran into a problem that have plagued me all night... When you toggle the switch to automatically hide the dock you get stuck with a small delay before it appears when hovering the edge of the screen. I have learnt that this is one of the many design principles Apple have put in use. In this case it appears to be their mission to save me from seeing the dock those few times when it's not intentional to touch the screens edge. In Windows there was a way to tweak this setting to have the menubar appear instantly by altering some registry value. Is there some way I can do this in Mac OS X?

I know almost nothing about it. The way I want to learn is to sign up for a sandbox where I can try things out. questions Is there a sandbox where I can play around with hadoop?
