  • Updating / refreshing a live geojson layer | JSON & JS Variable

    - by Ozaki
    TLDR I am trying to get my geoJSON layer to update, currently it will 1. Create the vector mark, 2. Remove the vector mark, 3. Set the JS variable for lat and lon, 4. Unset the variable??? :S Hey S O. I have a geojson layer set up as follows: //GeoJSON Layer// var layer1 = new OpenLayers.Layer.GML("My GeoJSON Layer", "coordinates", {format: OpenLayers.Format.GeoJSON, styleMap: style_red}); My features are set up as follows: var latitude = 0.0; // as 0.0 it will draw the point in. var longitude = 0.0; // as 0.0 it will draw the point in. //var longitude = getlongitude; where getlongitude = JSON string of longitude. var point = new OpenLayers.Geometry.Point(longitude, latitude); pointFeature = new OpenLayers.Feature.Vector(point, null, style_red); var style_red = OpenLayers.Util.extend({}, layer_style); style_red.strokeColor = "red"; style_red.fillColor = "black"; style_red.fillOpacity = 0.5; style_red.graphicName = "circle"; style_red.pointRadius = 3.8; style_red.strokeWidth = 2; style_red.strokeLinecap = "butt"; and my layer updating function: function UpdateLayer(){ var p = new OpenLayers.Format.GeoJSON({ 'internalProjection': new OpenLayers.Projection("EPSG:900913"), 'externalProjection': new OpenLayers.Projection("EPSG:4326") }); var url = "coordinates"; OpenLayers.loadURL(url, {}, null, function(r) { var f = p.read(r.responseText); map.layers[2].destroyFeatures(); map.layers[2].addFeatures(pointFeature); }); setTimeout("UpdateLayer()",1000) } Any idea what I am doing wrong or what I am missing? Edit1 It now removes the feature (was map.layers[1]) previously... But will not add the new feature.. Edit2 I managed to get it to redraw a point but not with live data. It should draw the point at what (latitude) & (longitude) are equal to. I am trying to set latitude & longitude to some JSON string but every time straight after it sets the variable it changes it back to "undefined" as soon as it passes the line after var latitude? (using firebug & firequery to debug)

  • What are jQuery best practices regarding Ajax convenience methods and error handling?

    - by JonathanHayward
    Let's suppose, for an example, that I want to partly clone Gmail's interface with jQuery Ajax and implement periodic auto-saving as well as sending. And in particular, let us suppose that I care about error handling, expecting network and other errors, and instead of just being optimistic I want sensible handling of different errors. If I use the "low-level" feature of $.ajax() then it's clear how to specify an error callback, but the convenience methods of $.get(), $.post(), and .load() do not allow an error callback to be specified. What are the best practices for pessimistic error handling? Is it by registering a .ajaxError() with certain wrapped sets, or an introspection-style global error handler in $.ajaxSetup()? What would the relevant portions of code look like to initiate an autosave so that a "could not autosave" type warning is displayed if an attempted autosave fails, and perhaps a message that is customized to the type of error? Thanks,

  • AJAX Web Application Design

    - by Colonel Sponsz
    I'm working on a personal project to build a small web app that is built using AJAX requests and talks to a RESTful API rather than traditional HTML pages and form submissions. Are there any online articles or tutorials or any books that people could recommend that cover design patterns for this kind of thing?

  • Problem with JS Selectbox Function

    - by Thomas
    I have a selectbox with three options. When a user selects one of the three options, I want a specific div to appear below it. I am trying to write the code that dictates which specific box is to appear when each of the three options is selected. So far, I have only worked on the code that pertains to the first option. However, whenever the user selects any of the three options from the selectbox, the function for the first option is triggered and the div is displayed. My question is two part: 1) How do I write a conditional function that specifically targets the selected option 2) What is the best way to accomplish what I have described above; How do I efficiently go about defining three different functions for three different options in a select box? Here is the function I was working on for the first option: $(document).ready(function(){ var subTableDiv = $("div.subTableDiv"); var subTableDiv1 = $("div.subTableDiv1"); var subTableDiv2 = $("div.subTableDiv2"); subTableDiv.hide(); subTableDiv1.hide(); subTableDiv2.hide(); var selectmenu=document.getElementById("customfields-s-18-s"); selectmenu.onchange=function(){ //run some code when "onchange" event fires var chosenoption=this.options[this.selectedIndex].value //this refers to "selectmenu" if (chosenoption.value ="Co-Op"){ subTableDiv1.slideDown("medium"); } } }); Html: <tr> <div> <select name="customfields-s-18-s" class="dropdown" id="customfields-s-18-s" > <option value="Condominium"> Condominium</option> <option value="Co-Op"> Co-Op</option> <option value="Condop"> Condop</option> </select> </div> </tr> <tr class="subTable"> <td colspan="2"> <div style="background-color: #EEEEEE; border: 1px solid #CCCCCC; padding: 10px;" id="Condominium" class="subTableDiv">Hi There! This is the first Box</div> </td> </tr> <tr class="subTable"> <td colspan="2"> <div style="background-color: #EEEEEE; border: 1px solid #CCCCCC; padding: 10px;" id="Co-Op" class="subTableDiv1">Hi There! This is the Second Box</div> </td> </tr> <tr class="subTable"> <td colspan="2"> <div style="background-color: #EEEEEE; border: 1px solid #CCCCCC; padding: 10px;" id="Condop" class="subTableDiv2">Hi There! This is the Third Box.</div> </td> </tr>

  • Combine multiple JSON files into one; retrieve using jQuery/getJSON()

    - by frankadelic
    I have some jQuery code which retrieves content using getJSON(). There are n JSON files, which are retrieved from the server as needed: /json-content/data0.json /json-content/data1.json /json-content/data2.json etc... Instead, I want to store all the JSON in a single file to reduce the number of HTTP requests needed to retrieve the data. What is the best way to do this? If I concatenate the JSON files together, it no longer works with getJSON(). I would prefer not to transform the JSON data ahead of time, as it is coming from a third party data source. Any suggestions?

  • location.hash in an iframe scrolls the parent window

    - by Ben Clayton
    Hi all. I have a page with an iframe. Inside the iframe is code (that I can't change) that sets location.hash to the id of an element in the iframe window. This has the unwanted effect of scrolling my outermost browser window so that the top of the window touches the top of the iframe. This is quite annoying as I have a toolbar above the iframe that is vital to my app. Is there any way of preventing the setting of location.hash affecting the scroll position of the main window? Will preventDefault help me out here? Thanks!

  • Problem with jQuery in Internet Explorer 8

    - by Tim Cosgriff
    I am trying to get my jQuery functions to work on IE8. I am loading the library from google's servers (http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.3/jquery.min.js). The $(function(){}) is never called. Instead, I get an error "Object expected". I opened the developer and ran "typeof $" in the console, and it came up as "undefined". I have tried going to other sites that I know use jQuery (jquery.com), and those all work, is there something I might be missing here?

  • JQuery: Problem in getting element's width in Chrome

    - by Sarfraz
    Hello, Suppose I have this image: <img src="images/01.jpg" border="0" rel="shadow" /> Then with JQuery, I get its width using: $('[rel="shadow"]').width(); Firefox and IE report correct dimensions of the image eg 140px while Chrome reports 0. How to solve this problem? Note: I don't want to set explicit width for images eg: <img src="images/01.jpg" border="0" rel="shadow" width="140" /> So, how to get width in cross-browser way which is not defined in width attribute of elements? Thanks

  • How do I get the "Install Missing Plugin" yellow bar to appear in firefox when flash is not installe

    - by Janak
    My rails website uses the open_flash_graph plugin to generate flash graphs for my clients. If a customer doesn't have flash installed, it doesn't display any messages, it simply doesn't show any graphs. I've noticed that if I go to other websites that need flash, I get a yellow bar at the top of my firefox window that offers to "Install Missing Plugin". I assume something in the HTML lets firefox know that this webpage needs flash. What code do I need to add to my website to make this work?

  • Access control for cross site requests in Internet Explorer

    - by Aleksandar
    I am trying to make an AJAX call from several domains to a single one which will handle the request. Enabling Cross domain in Firefox and Chrome was easy by setting the header on the handling server: header("Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *"); But this doesn't help enabling it in Internet Explorer. When I try: httpreq.send(''); it stops with error Access denied. How can this be enabled in Internet Explorer?

  • Get the ID of the Current Textbox using JQuery

    - by Aaron Salazar
    I have a form with 3 text boxes that all do the same thing. They each call the JQuery function below after each keypress. Since I have 3 textboxes that all do the same thing, I'd like this function to work for all three. How do I change this function so that it'll grab the textbox's ID that is currently being edited instead of just the one? $(function() { $('#DocId').live('keydown', function() { var styleValue = $(this).val(); $('#tableContent').load( '/CurReport/TableResults', { style: styleValue } ); }) }); Thank you, Aaron

  • GWT: Best practice for unit testing / mocking JSNI methods?

    - by Epaga
    I have a class which uses JSNI to retrieve JSON data stored in the host page: protected native JsArray<JsonModel> getModels() /*-{ return $wnd.jsonData; }-*/; This method is called, and the data is then translated and process in a different method. How should I unit test this class, since I'm not able to instantiate (or seemingly mock?) JsArray? What is the best way to unit test JSNI methods at all?

  • jQuery Validation Plugin: Invoke errorPlacement function when onfocusout, keyup and click

    - by th3hamburgler
    Hi, I am using the jquery validation plugin and want to use the errorPlacement function to add error messages to the fields title attribute and display just a ? next to the field. This works great when the form is submitted with the submit button but when any of the following events are triggered: - onfocusout - click - onkeyup The validation checks are run but it skips the errorPlacement function and adds the full error message after the field, like the default behaviour. I am using the following code: $("#send-mail").validate({ debug: true, // set this class to error-labels to indicate valid fields success: function(label) { // set text as tick label.html("&#10004;").addClass("valid"); }, // the errorPlacement has to take the table layout into account errorPlacement: function(error, element) { console.log("errorPlacement called for "+element.attr("name")+" field"); // check for blank/success error if(error.text() == "") { // remove field title/error message from element element.attr("title", ""); console.log("error check passed"); } else { // get error message var message = error.text(); // set as element title element.attr("title", message); // clear error html and add cross glyph error.html("&#10008;"); console.log("error check failed: "+message); } // add error label after form element error.insertAfter(element); }, ignoreTitle: true, errorClass: "invalid" });

  • Retrieve parent node from selection (range) in Gecko and Webkit

    - by Jason
    I am trying to add an attribute when using a wysiwyg editor that uses "createLink" command. I thought it would be trivial to get back the node that is created after the browse executes that command. Turns out, I am only able to grab this newly created node in IE. Any ideas? The following code demonstrates the issue (debug logs at bottom show different output in each browser): var getSelectedHTML = function() { if ($.browser.msie) { return this.getRange().htmlText; } else { var elem = this.getRange().cloneContents(); return $("<p/>").append($(elem)).html(); } }; var getSelection = function() { if ($.browser.msie) { return this.editor.selection; } else { return this.iframe[0].contentDocument.defaultView.getSelection(); } }; var getRange = function() { var s = this.getSelection(); return (s.getRangeAt) ? s.getRangeAt(0) : s.createRange(); }; var getSelectedNode = function() { var range = this.getRange(); var parent = range.commonAncestorContainer ? range.commonAncestorContainer : range.parentElement ? range.parentElement(): range.item(0); return parent; }; // **** INSIDE SOME EVENT HANDLER **** if ($.browser.msie) { this.ec("createLink", true); } else { this.ec("createLink", false, prompt("Link URL:", "http://")); } var linkNode = $(this.getSelectedNode()); linkNode.attr("rel", "external"); $.log(linkNode.get(0).tagName); // Gecko: "body" // IE: "a" // Webkit: "undefined" $.log(this.getSelectedHTML()); // Gecko: "<a href="http://site.com">foo</a>" // IE: "<A href="http://site.com" rel=external>foo</A>" // Webkit: "foo" $.log(this.getSelection()); // Gecko: "foo" // IE: [object Selection] // Webkit: "foo" Thanks for any help on this, I've scoured related questions on SO with no success!

  • Namespaced Backbone.js Views not firing events

    - by Stasio
    I'm currently getting started with Backbone.js. I've wrote some examples with Backbone and they are working fine. But now I need to use Backbone.js with Rails 3.1 and CoffeeScript. I took my well-working examples and rewrote on CoffeeScript using backbone-rails gem. And got the following problem. I've simplyfied code, but the problem is still remaining I've got the following files: Here I'm starting my Backbone app at main.js.coffee file according to my main_controller in rails app: $ = jQuery $-> CsfTaskManager.init() Here is backbone app description: #= require_self #= require_tree ./templates #= require_tree ./models #= require_tree ./views #= require_tree ./routers window.CsfTaskManager = Models: {} Collections: {} Routers: {} Views: {} init: -> new CsfTaskManager.Routers.AppRouter() Backbone.history.start() This is my apps' router: class CsfTaskManager.Routers.AppRouter extends Backbone.Router initialize: (options) -> goalsBlock = new CsfTaskManager.Views.goalsView() routes: "!/": "root", some other routes... And finally view: class CsfTaskManager.Views.goalsView extends Backbone.View initialize: -> this.goals = new CsfTaskManager.Collections.GoalsCollection() el: $('div#app'), events: "click .add-btn": "addGoal" addGoal: -> alert('ji') HTML page has such code: <div id="app"> <div class="app-screen hidden" id="goal-form" style="display: block; "> <button class="btn" id="load"> Load </button> <h3> New Goal </h3> <div class="form-stacked"> <form accept-charset="UTF-8" action="/goals" class="new_goal" id="new_goal" method="post"><div style="margin:0;padding:0;display:inline"><input name="utf8" type="hidden" value="?"><input name="authenticity_token" type="hidden" value="Pnt+V/tS1/b079M/1ZIRdw2ss1D6bvJKVh868DXRjUg="></div> <label for="goal_title">Title</label> <p></p> <input class="goal-title" id="goal_title" name="goal[title]" size="30" type="text"> <p></p> <label for="goal_note">Note</label> <p></p> <input class="goal-note" id="goal_note" name="goal[note]" size="30" type="text"> </form> </div> <p> <button class="add-btn btn"> Add </button> </p> <ul id="goals-list"></ul> </div> <table class="app-screen bordered-table" id="calendar-grid" style="display: none; "> <tbody><tr> <td colspan="2"> week </td> </tr> <tr> <td> day </td> <td> <div id="calendar"></div> </td> </tr> </tbody></table> <div class="app-screen hidden" id="role-form" style="display: none; "> <h3> New User Role </h3> <div class="form-stacked"> <form accept-charset="UTF-8" action="/roles" class="new_role" id="new_role" method="post"><div style="margin:0;padding:0;display:inline"><input name="utf8" type="hidden" value="?"><input name="authenticity_token" type="hidden" value="Pnt+V/tS1/b079M/1ZIRdw2ss1D6bvJKVh868DXRjUg="></div> <label for="role_title">Title</label> <p></p> <input class="role-title" id="role_name" name="role[name]" size="30" type="text"> <p></p> <label for="role_note">Note</label> <p></p> <input class="role-note" id="role_description" name="role[description]" size="30" type="text"> </form> </div> <p> <button class="add-btn btn"> Add </button> </p> </div> </div> So .add-btn element is nested in #app, but click on this button doesn't fire event. Where can be a trouble? Before, when I had the same app in one .js file, without of coffeescript, namespacing and backbone-rails gem, everything was allright. Bytheway, appRouter works fine, goalsView object is created successfully too, but events don't fire for some reasons. Please give me some hint, because I'm really got stuck...

  • Rotate a feature Image in Open Layers - ReApply StyleMap to layer.

    - by Ozaki
    I have an open layers map. It adds and removes my "imageFeature" every 10secs or so. I have a JSON feed that gives me the rotation that I need, I have a request to get that rotation and set it as a variable of rotationv. Everything works but the fact when the image is recreated it does not update the rotation. My code is as follows: JSON request: var rotationv = (function () { rotationv = null; $.ajax({ 'async': false, 'global': true, 'url': urldefault, 'dataType': "json", 'success': function (data) { rotationv = data.rotation; } }); return rotationv })(); Creating image feature: imageFeature = new OpenLayers.Feature.Vector( new OpenLayers.Geometry.Point(mylon, mylat), { rotation: rotationv } ); The image is set in the styling elsewhere. Why does this not rotate my image? Debugging with firebug I now notice that "rotationv" is updating as per it should be. But when the point is destroyed then added again it does not apply the new rotation... Add: I realised that the "image" is applied as per the layer. So I need to figure out how to re apply the stylemap to the layer so it will trigger the "update" on the page. //redefine layer 2 so it can be updated - test.js is just a 0.0 ref// var layer2 = new OpenLayers.Layer.GML("Layer 2", "test.js", { format: OpenLayers.Format.GeoJSON, styleMap: styleMap }); But even if I add the above into my function still no luck. Included map.addLayers([layer2]); into the function as well. Edit: Attaching stylemap: var styleMap = new OpenLayers.StyleMap({ "default": new OpenLayers.Style({ rotation: rotationv, labelXOffset: "0", labelYOffset: "-15", graphicZIndex: 1 }) });
