• OSX: cant create a partition because drive is locked

  Problem: I have a USB key with Mountain Lion on it and I want to install it on my macbook pro. I deleted the existing partition on the laptop and wanted to created a new one were to install the OS but cant because everything in the partition tab for the drive is grayed out. Basically, I can't do anything until I unlock the partition So the question is: how to unlock a partition from disk utility or the command line.

• High Server Load cannot figure out why

  My server is currently running CentOS 5.2, with WHM 11.34. Currently, we're at 6.43 to 12 for a load average. The sites that we're hosting are taking a lot time to respond and resolve. top doesn't show anything out of the ordinary and iftop doesn't show a lot of traffic. • custom route not working on windows

  My windows laptop is directly connected to 192.168.1.0/24 (wireless lan). I access 10.21.0.0/16 though a router that is connected to both networks. The routing works fine with this configuration. I have a VPN, that connects to 10.0.0.0/8. The VPN network doesn't actually use any IPs in the 10.21.0.0/16 range. So I should be able to configure my routing table to route all the 10.21.0.0/16 IPs through the wireless lan, and all other 10.0.0.0/8 through the VPN. My understanding is that I can do this if the metric for the 10.21.0.0 is lower than that of the 10.0.0.0. The VPN (10.0.0.0) is automatically assigned metric 20. I have manually assigned the WLAN a metric of 1. I manually add an entry to the routing table with this command: route add 10.21.0.0 mask 255.255.0.0 192.168.1.201 metric 1 The route is then assigned a metric of 2 (which is expected). The problem is that it doesn't work. I can't ping any machine on the 10.21.0.0 network. But I can access other stuff on the 10.0.0.0. I can also access stuff on the 192.168.1.0. To debug this i've done the following. Run tcpdump on the router (192.168.1.201). I can verify that no packets for 10.21.0.0 arrive on that interface. Disable iptables on the router. Disable the windows firewall. Run wireshark on my laptop, to try and see which interface the ping requests go to. But I can't see them go anywhere!! The ping command doesn't receive any 'destination unreachable' messages. Here is the relevant section of the routing table.   I installed csync2 on two ubuntu node as documentation in http://oss.linbit.com/csync2/paper.pdf. when i use a one-shot command csync2 -xv every thing goes well. but when i try to run csync2 in stand-alone server mode i get error: Server error: Address already in use. i searched over net and no documentation found on this problem, even tracing code and grep in files didn't get any result of problem source. do you have any idea?

• Passive FTP on Windows Server 2008 R2 using the IIS7 FTP-Server

  Hello serverFault-community! During the last few days I have been setting up a Windows Server 2008 R2 in a VMware. I installed the standard FTP-Server on it by using the Webserver (IIS)-role. Everything works fine with accessing my FTP-Site with ftp://localhost in Firefox. I can also get access to it via the local IP of my Server. Actually everything works fine in my LAN. But here's my problem: I want to get access "from outside", using the external IP or a dyndns-URL. I have a LinkSys-Router in front of my Server, therefore I'm forwarding all the important ports. If you may now think "this idiot has probably forgotten some ports", I must dissappoint you. It even works getting access to my Server-Website and messing around in some WebInterfaces. The problem is my passive FTP (active works for me). I always get a timeout, when e.g. FileZilla waits for a response to the LIST-command. The one big thing I don't get, is, why my Server sends a response to the PASV-command, naming a port like 40918, even if I have restricted the data port range for my passive FTP ( in the IIS-Manager) to e.g. [5000-5009]. I simply don't want to open and forward all possible data ports! And another thing is, I can't specify a static external IP-adress for my server, since I don't own any. I hope I have explained my problem in a comprehensible way. If not, simply ask by posting a comment! Could this be caused by the router, that doesn't forward out-ports directly, but uses different ones? (-- The IP-Adress given is the local one, since I'm not able to define a static external in the IIS-Mgr)

• Server unresponsive after successful OpenSSL connection

  I'm testing server connections using OpenSSL, with varying results Server A: connection is successful, as are user login and the other commands I expected to work Server B: connection is successful, but the server is unresponsive when I try to submit a command. I don't get an error, or even a disconnection – just a blank line from where I hit Enter or ^M My hunch is that Server B's configuration requires a different character encoding or something and it's simply not recognizing my Enter keystroke, but I've looked to no avail... any suggestions would be appreciated!

• WOL not working with two NIC's

  We have recently moved from a windows 2003 server to an 08 R2. Running the program from the command line says that the magic packet has successfully been sent but it never actually reached the destination computer. We have two NIC's on the server. If I disable the NIC that isn't (currently) in use, WOL will work fine, but in the future we will need to use both NIC's. Also, we use MAC Addresses for WOL.

• Sync local folder with WebDAV

  I have a local folder on my Mac that I want to sync with a WebDAV server. There are a lot of files in my folder. After I edit some files or add/remove folders, I want to be able to sync the changes to the WebDAV server, ignoring what it is on the server and always using my files. Is there any script or tool that I can use from command line to do that? And mounting the resource is not a solution.

• Android emulator performance on linux

  I installed the android SDK and eclipse plugin on my laptop, but I was surprised to find out that the emulator eats up 100% of one of my cpu cores. I have exactly the same setup on a desktop machine that does not have this issue. Both computers are running arch linux and both were updated yesterday. Granted, the desktop has better hardware than the laptop, but I was expecting to get closer to 50% cpu usage than 100% on the laptop. Both android virtual devices have the same specs: CPU: ARM Target: Android 2.3.3 - API Level 10 Skin: WVGA800 SD Card: 512M hw.lcd.density: 240 vm.heapSize: 24 hw.ramSize: 256 Laptop host has Intel Core 2 T7200 @ 2GHz cpu with 2Gb RAM. Desktop host has AMD Phenom II X4 940 @ 3GHz cpu with 8Gb RAM. [UPDATE] I ran the emulator with the same settings, on the same laptop under Win7 and after starting up, it didn't use 100% of a CPU core unlike under linux. Also, I tried running the emulator from a terminal in Linux and I get this message when I don't get it under the desktop Linux host: Could not configure '/dev/hpet' to have a 1024Hz timer. This is not a fatal error, but for better emulation accuracy type: 'echo 1024 /proc/sys/dev/hpet/max-user-freq' as root. I'm not really familiar with rtc or hpet, but it doesn't seem that max-user-freq setting does anything, I still get the same warning.

• Restarting nginx with Capistrano results in 502 Bad Gateway

  Here's what cap deploy does: sudo -p 'sudo password: ' -u root /var/rails_apps/fooapp/current/script/process/reaper reaper simply contains /etc/init.d/nginx restart When I run the same command from the shell, I do not get a 502--everything is fine. The nginx error.log is empty. Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

• Windows Server 2008 - one MAC Address, assign multiple external IP's to VirtualBoxes running as guests on host

  Couldn't find any help @ google or here. The scenario: Windows Server 2008 Std x64 on i7-975, 12 GB RAM. The server is running in a data centre. One hardware NIC - RealTek PCIe GBE - one MAC Address. The data centre provides us 4 static external IP's. The first is assigned to the host by default of course. I have ordered all 4 IP's, the data centre can assign the available IP's to the physical MAC address of the given NIC only. This means one NIC, one MAC Address, 4 IP's. Everything works fine so far. Now, what I would like to have: Installed VirtualBox with 1-3 guests running, each gets it's own external IP assigned. Each of it should be an standalone Win Server 2008. It looks like the easiest way would be to put the guests into an virtual subnet and routing all data coming to the 2nd till 4th external IP through to this guests using there subnet IP's. I have been through the VirtualBox User Manuel regarding networking. What's not working: I can't use bridged networking without anything else, because the IP's are assigned to the one MAC address only. I can't use NAT networking because it does not allow access from outside or the host to the guest. I do not wanna use port forwarding. Host-only networking itself would not allow internet access, by sharing the default internet connection of the host, internet is granted from the guest to the outside but not from outside or the host to the guest. InternalNetworking is not really an option here. What I have tried is to create an additional MS Loopback adapter for a routed subnet, where the Vbox guests are in, now the idea was to NAT the internet connection to the loopback 'subnet'. But I can't ping the gateway from the guests. By using route command in the command shell or RRAS (static route, NAT) I didn't get there as well. Solutions like the following do work for the one way, but not for the way back: For your situation, it might be best to use the Host-Only adapter for ICS. Go to the preferences of VB itself and select network. There you can change the configuration for the interface. Set the IP address to 192.168.0.1, netmask 255.255.255.0. Disable the DHCP server if it isn't already and that's it. Now the Guest should get an IP from Windows itself and be able to get onto the internet, while you can also access the Host. Slowly I'm pretty stucked with this topic. There is a possibility I've just overlooked something or just didn't getting it by trying, especially using RRAS, but it's kinda hard to find useful howto's or something in the web.   I want to make certain directories on my drives read-only except to particular programs who will have full permissions. For example, the Microsoft Word might be allowed to modify the files in my Documents folder, but other programs (such as the Command Prompt) would not be allowed to. I'm guessing this requires a file system filter driver of some sort, but I don't know which programs have this capability. Is there any (free) program that can do this for me?
