  I am running Ubuntu 12.04 on my Dell XPS13 L322X (installed onto a flash drive). However, at boot time, the screen just turns off. I was able to access the Terminal through recovery mode though. I have tried several of the most common solutions that I've seen on forums/AskUbuntu, in vain. Please help me figure this out. Thanks! • Storing Projects on Google Drive (Cloud)

  I've started using Google Drive for my cloud needs and backing up pretty much everything. I've got the app installed so it auto-sync's all my content in most things. My question is this, I am currently coding for iOS (although this applies to any coding project) and am split on storing my project files on Google Drive while using sync. My theory is that if I did use it, I'd never have to worry about system crashes or lost code before backups, but if I do use it it will be sync'ing a-lot and I thought there might be problems with it detecting changes and trying to sync for example half way through compiling. Bandwidth isn't an issue as I have fast connection and unlimited monthly allowance. Has anyone ever used this, or similar cloud-based sync'ing (dropbox etc) for this and knows whether it works or not or whether there are any potential problems etc.

  We have a new graphic/web design site that we've created and we'd like to give it a boost in terms of back links. What are the obvious places to submit a website to achieve some good back links? And what would be the recurring work load (if any) that those back links would need? Are there any good industry specific websites we could submit a profile to? E.g Twitter, would need constant interaction and new content with back links to the website.   Per my request, my webhost had turned mod_deflate ON. In my Cpanel I now have an "Optimize Website" button. Inside that menu I could either choose: "Compress all content" or "Compress the specified MIME types" with the following default MIME types: "text/html text/plain text/xml" Which option should I choose and why? If I choose option 2, which types should I add (is there a recommended list with the exact way they should be written)? According to Google recommendations, I have omitted the type="text/css" attributes from all CSS references, as well as the type="text/javascript" attributes from all script references. Would this hinder the "gzipping" process?

  On Ubuntu 12.04 I use openbox with a single "gnome-panel" started. But after trying to configure my two screen in Xinerama mode I got additional rows of panels each time X restarted. And despite I completely reverted to my one-screen-X-config the gnome-panel displayed has 4 rows (4 at top sreen, 4 at bottom) only the outermost row has content, the other 3 are empty there is only one gnome-panel process running some widgets appear 4 times, too, although they run only once when I switch away from openbox using unity I am back to 1 row temporarily What went wrong here? How do I undo that? Things that did not help: rm -Rf .gnome2 .gconf/ .compiz-1/ pkill panel, and restarting it

I am considering two options: Buying a hosting service Using GitHub pages Buying a hosting service would probably mean I am going to pay for lots of things that I don't need like PHP, MySQL, e-mail service etc. On the other hand, if I use GitHub pages, I can't use .htaccess file to make 301 redirects. I want to change my URL structure and this is important to me. I was wondering if I use: <meta http-equiv=refresh content="0; url=http://example.com/newurl" /> Would Google see it as 301 redirect, so that I won't use my search engine value?

• Designing a hierarchical structure with lots of reads and writes?

  I am in the process of working on a video on demand system part of it involves the management of a hierarchical tree structure (think windows explorer) which allows users to upload videos, move folders around, create new folders etc. User action will be allowed depending on which permissions they have. In addition to managing the structure (creating folders and uploading videos), subscribers will be viewing content (read access). The number of reads will be significantly more than the writes. My question (and it is big one) is should I store the data in a database (for the writes) and also have some sort of cache which will be used for the reads? or do I use two databases? or is there a better solution? Also I will have to resolve concurrency issues which I think optimistic locking on the database will resolve. I have a fair bit about CQRS over the last few months but not sure if this is the way to go. Any ideas?

  A friend of mine asked me for a easy website for him. As it was just 3 subpages, no database need or anything, I've done it quite fast with plain PHP, HTML, JS and CSS. But then another and another friend showed up. They only wanted arrange differently they navigation, some different picutures etc. So I though, is there any kind of CMS, that allows build small business website (barbershop, local groceries shop), with small list of subpages, yet allowing us to arrange look'n'feel. There's no need for the databas as content won't change, or can be stored in simple textfiles for example. Things like WordPress might be simple overkill Does anyone know such cms?

  So the following is happening in Files whenever the width of the window is somewhat smaller than all the content of the list: In list view the name column is cropped unto a point where no name is visible at all! And it is even not possible to change the column size manually. Funnily, in some situations it quickly flickers from a larger column width to the small one back and forth before settling on the small size. Unnecessarily to say, it is extremely annoying. Is there a way around this or is this just "bad design"? Oh yeah, Ubuntu 13.04 & 13.10, Files version 3.8.2.

• My IIS server won't serve SSL sites to some browsers

I managed to successfully connect using Cisco VPN Client, now I'm trying to switch to OSX 10.6 native client, because of licensing issues.
