• Big trouble after app update. CoreData migration error

  this morning we had a big trouble with our iphone app. We had to even take it off the store. The thing is that we made real small changes to our xcdatamodel. We thought that the update process is automatically taking care about exchanging it the right way until we found out something like CoreData migration exists. We are using the UIManagedDocument to connect to the persistent store. How is it possible to exchange this file with the new one? While we were developing we just uninstalled the whole app from the device and then installed it again and everything worked. How can we simulate this process in the app store with updates? UPDATE I try to set the migration option like this _database = [[UIIManagedDocument alloc] init]; NSMutableDictionary *options = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] init]; [options setObject:[NSNumber numberWithBool:YES] forKey:NSMigratePersistentStoresAutomaticallyOption], _database.persistentStoreOptions = options; but the app is still crashing with ** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: 'This NSPersistentStoreCoordinator has no persistent stores. • How do I connect to SQL Server with VB?

  Hi, I'm trying to connect to a SQL server from VB. The SQL server is across the network uses my windows login for authentication. I can access the server using the following python code: import odbc conn = odbc.odbc('SignInspection') c = conn.cursor() c.execute("SELECT * FROM list_domain") c.fetchone() This code works fine, returning the first result of the SELECT. However, I've been trying to use the SqlClient.SqlConnection in VB, and it fails to connect.   Hello friends, I am creating custom membership provider for my asp.net application. I have also created a separate class "DBConnect" that provides database functionality such as Executing SQL statement, Executing SPs, Executing SPs or Query and returning SqlDataReader and so on... I have created instance of DBConnect class within Session_Start of Global.asax and stored to a session. Later using a static class I am providing the database functionality throughout the application using the same single session. In short I am providing a single point for all database operations from any asp.net page. I know that i can write my own code to connect/disconnect database and execute SPs within from the methods i need to override. Please look at the code below - public class SGI_MembershipProvider : MembershipProvider { ...... public override bool ChangePassword(string username, string oldPassword, string newPassword) { if (!ValidateUser(username, oldPassword)) return false; ValidatePasswordEventArgs args = new ValidatePasswordEventArgs(username, newPassword, true); OnValidatingPassword(args); if (args.Cancel) { if (args.FailureInformation != null) { throw args.FailureInformation; } else { throw new Exception("Change password canceled due to new password validation failure."); } } ..... //Database connectivity and code execution to change password. } .... } MY PROBLEM - Now what i need is to execute the database part within all these overriden methods from the same database point as described on the top. That is i have to pass the instance of DBConnect existing in the session to this class, so that i can access the methods. Could anyone provide solution on this. • Windows 7 versus Windows XP multithreading - Delphi app not acting right

  I'm having a problem with a Delphi Pro 6 application that I wrote on my Windows XP machine when it runs on Windows 7. I don't have Windows 7 to test yet and I'm trying to see if Windows 7 might be the source of the trouble. Is there a fundamental difference between the way Windows 7 handles threads compared to Windows XP? I am seeing things happen out of sequence in my error logs on Windows 7 and it's causing problems. For example, objects that should have been initialized are uninitialized when running on Windows 7, yet those objects are initialized on Windows XP by the time they are needed. Some questions: 1) Are there any core differences that could cause threads/processes to behave differently between the two operating system versions? 2) I know this next question may seem absurd, but does Windows 7 attempt to split/fork threads that aren't split/forked on Windows XP? 3) And lastly, are there any known issues with FPU handling that can cause XP programs trouble when run on Windows 7 due to operational differences in wait state handling or register storage, or perhaps something like Exception mask settings, etc? 4) Any 32-bit versus 64-bit issues that could be creating trouble here? -- roschler

• 'WebException' error on back button even when calling 'void' async method

  I have a windows phone app that allows the user to interact with it. Each interaction will always result in an async WCF call. In addition to that, some interactions will result in opening the browser, maps, email, etc... The problem is that, when hitting the back button, I sometime get the following error "An error (WebException) occurred while transmitting data over the HTTP channel." with the following stack trace: at System.ServiceModel.Channels.HttpChannelUtilities.ProcessGetResponseWebException(WebException webException, HttpWebRequest request, HttpAbortReason abortReason) at System.ServiceModel.Channels.HttpChannelFactory.HttpRequestChannel.HttpChannelAsyncRequest.CompleteGetResponse(IAsyncResult result) at System.ServiceModel.Channels.HttpChannelFactory.HttpRequestChannel.HttpChannelAsyncRequest.OnGetResponse(IAsyncResult result) at System.Net.Browser.ClientHttpWebRequest.<>c__DisplayClassa.<InvokeGetResponseCallback>b__8(Object state2) at System.Threading.ThreadPool.WorkItem.WaitCallback_Context(Object state) at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.Run(ExecutionContext executionContext, ContextCallback callback, Object state) at System.Threading.ThreadPool.WorkItem.doWork(Object o) at System.Threading.Timer.ring() My understanding is that it's happening because my app opened another app (browser, maps, etc) before it had the time to execute the EndMyAsyncMethod(System.IAsyncResult result). Fair enough... What's really annoying is that it seems it should get fixed by cloning the server-side method, only making it void with the following operation contract [OperationContract(IsOneWay = true)] but I'm still getting the error. What's worse is that the exception is thrown in a system-generated part of the code and, thus, cannot be manually caught causing the app to just crash. I simply don't understand the need to execute an Endxxx method when it's explicitely marked as OneWay and void. EDIT I did find a similar issue here. It does seem that it is related to the message getting to the service (not the client callback). My next question is: if I'm now calling a method marked AsyncPattern and OneWay, what exactly should I be waiting for on the client to be sure the message was transmitted successfully? • Checking if a console application is still running using the Process class

  I'm making an application that will monitor the state of another process and restart it when it stops responding, exits, or throws an error. However, I'm having trouble to make it reliably check if the process (Being a C++ Console window) has stopped responding. I know there are ways to directly query the source server using their own protocol, but i'd like to keep it simple and universal (So that i can maybe use it for different applications in the future).   Here's some simple code that, for each argument specified, will add specific get/set methods named after that argument.   Hello everyone, I am using VSTS 2008 + C# + WCF + .Net 3.5 + Silverlight 3.0. I host Silverlight control in an html page and debug it from VSTS 2008 (press F5, then run in VSTS 2008 built-in ASP.Net development web server), then call another WCF service (hosted in another machine running IIS 7.0 + Vista). The WCF service is very simple, just return a constant string to client. When invoking the WCF service from Silverlight, I got the following error message, An error occurred while trying to make a request to URI 'https://LabTest/Test.svc'. This could be due to attempting to access a service in a cross-domain way without a proper cross-domain policy in place, or a policy that is unsuitable for SOAP services. You may need to contact the owner of the service to publish a cross-domain policy file and to ensure it allows SOAP-related HTTP headers to be sent. This error may also be caused by using internal types in the web service proxy without using the InternalsVisibleToAttribute attribute. Please see the inner exception for more details.   Hi im working on a project using HibernateDaoSUpport from my Daos from Spring & spring-ws & hibernate & postgres who will be used in a national application (means a lot of users) Actually, every exception from hibernate is automatically transformed into some specific Spring dataAccesException. I have a table with a keyword on the dabatase & a unique constraint on the keywords : no duplicate keywords is allowed. I have found twows ways to deal with with that in the Insert Dao: 1- Check for the duplicate manually (with a select) prior to doing your insert. I means that the spring transaction will have a SERIALIZABLE isolation level. The obvious drawback is that we have now 2 queries for a simple insert.Advantage: independent of the database 2-let the insert gone & catch the SqlException & convert it to a userfriendly message & errorcode to the final consumer of our webservices. Solution 2: Spring has developped a way to translate specific exeptions into customized exceptions. see http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/marx_spring.html In my case i would have a ConstraintViolationException. Ideally i would like to write a custom SQLExceptionTranslator to map the duplicate word constraint in the database with a DuplicateWordException. But i can have many unique constraints on the same table. So i have to get the message of the SQLEXceptions in order to find the name of the constraint declared in the create table "uq_duplicate-constraint" for example. • iPhone SDK: Why is didSelectRowAtIndexPath not being fired?

  I have a view with a table on it. When the app starts, it loads the first 5 visble cells. That works as expected. My problem is that, when I try to scroll down in the table the app crashes with this error. What I've found is that didSelectRowAtIndexPath is not being called. AFAIK, all I need to do is to subscribe to the delegate. If a node does not exist it would be great if it gets added, but thats maybe another task. If I try to iterate over $user_xml I get "arg1 is not of type node()" exception. But maybe its the wrong approach anyway? Does anybody maybe have sample code how to do this?

• Intel MKL memory management and exceptions

  Hello everyone, I am trying out Intel MKL and it appears that they have their own memory management (C-style). They suggest using their MKL_malloc/MKL_free pairs for vectors and matrices and I do not know what is a good way to handle it. One of the reasons for that is that memory-alignment is recommended to be at least 16-byte and with these routines it is specified explicitly. I used to rely on auto_ptr and boost::smart_ptr a lot to forget about memory clean-ups. How can I write an exception-safe program with MKL memory management or should I just use regular auto_ptr's and not bother? Thanks in advance. • How do you fix loading plugins in eclipse 3.5.1 on linux?

  I have two linux boxes. Both Fedora 11 x64. On one, I downloaded the eclipse-java-galileo-SR1-linux-gtk-x86_64.tar.gz. I unpacked it to /opt/eclipse-3.5.1/ and used the Install New Software... item to install the SVN team provider and the Polarion SVN connectors. Everything works. On the second, I copied the tar.gar for eclipse there, and then tried to follow the same steps. When I get to the install SVN team provided, eclipse downloads it and claims to install it and asks to restart. I restart and there is no SVN support. The software installer knows its there because I can't reinstall it without uninstalling it. So the questions: Why isn't the plugin/feature loading for the SVN Team Support? Is there a checkbox that I forgot about that enables the plugin? Is there a command line option that will force reload all of the features on the disk? I've tried to install other things like findbugs, but I get the same result. I have no messages in the log file indicating an exception or anything like that.

  I'm writing an interface to a web service where we need to upload configuration files. The documentation only provides a sample in C#.net which I am not familiar with. I'm trying to implement this in PHP. Can someone familiar with both languages point me in the right direction? I can figure out all the basics, but I'm trying to figure out suitable PHP replacements for the FileStream, ReadBytes, and UploadDataFile functions. I believe that the RecService object contains the URL for the web service. • Iterating through Event Log Entry Collection, IndexOutOutOfBoundsException

  Hello, in a service application I am iterating through the Windows application event log to parse Events in order react depanding on the entry message. In the case that the event log is full (Windows usually makes sure there is enough space by deleting old entries - this is configurable in the eventvwr.exe settings), the service always runs into an IndexOutOfBoundsException while iterating through the EventLog.Entries collection. No matter how I iterate (for-loop, using the collections enumerator, copying the collection into an array, ...), I can't seem to get rid of this ´bug´. Currently, I ensure that the log is not full in order to keep the service running by regularly deleting the last few item by parsing the event log file and deleting the last few nodes (Don't beat me up, I couldn't find a better alternative...). How can I iterate through the collection without trying to access already deleted entries? Is there probably a more elegant method? I am only trying to acces the logs written during the last x seconds (even LINQ failed to select those when the log is full - same exception), could this help? Thanks for any advice and hints Frank Edit: I forgot to mention that my assumption is the loops are accessing entries which are being deleted during iteration by Windows. Basically that is why I tried to clone the collection. Is there perhaps a way to lock the collection for a small amount of time for just my application?
