  • What is the correct way to tell if Pango has found the right font?

    I create a font description with: pango_font_description_from_string() Then load a font with: pango_context_load_font() This process seems to result in some default font regardless of the string I give it. Is there any sane way for me to determine if the returned font is the result of an alias (e.g. "Sans", "Monospace") or just the last chance default font? For example, if I request the font "Monospace" and get back "DejaVu Sans Mono" then I should be able to declare that a good match. However, if I request "OquieZee" and get back "DejaVu Sans" then I'd like to know that I just got back the default font because the font I requested doesn't actually exist on the system. When I first saw pango_font_description_better_match() I thought it might be of help, but it turned out to be a dead end.

    Can dirtiness of pages of a (non-shared) mmap be accessed from userspace under linux 2.6.30+? Platform-specific hacks and kludges welcome. Ideally, I'm looking for an array of bits, one per page (4kB?) of the mmap'ed region, which are set if that page has been written to since the region was mmap'ed. (I am aware, that the process doing the writing could keep track of this information - but it seems silly to do so if the kernel is doing it anyway.) Thanks, Chris.

  • Redirect requests only if the file is not found?

    I'm hoping there is a way to do this with mod_rewrite and Apache, but maybe there is another way to consider too. On my site, I have directories set up for re-skinned versions of the site for clients. If the web root is /home/blah/www, a client directory would be /home/blah/www/clients/abc. When you access the client directory via a web browser, I want it to use any requested files in the client directory if they exist. Otherwise, I want it to use the file in the web root. For example, let's say the client does not need their own index.html. Therefore, some code would determine that there is no index.html in /home/blah/www/clients/abc and will instead use the one in /home/blah/www. Keep in mind that I don't want to redirect the client to the web root at any time, I just want to use the web root's file with that name if the client directory has not specified its own copy. The web browser should still point to /clients/abc whether the file exists there or in the root. Likewise, if there is a request for news.html in the client directory and it DOES exist there, then just serve that file instead of the web root's news.html. The user's experience should be seamless. I need this to work for requests on any filename. If I need to, for example, add a new line to .htaccess for every file I might want to redirect, it rather defeats the purpose as there is too much maintenance needed, and a good chance for errors given the large number of files. In your examples, please indicate whether your code goes in the .htaccess file in the client directory, or the web root. Web root is preferred. Thanks for any suggestions! :)

    Hi, I have a web app, I want to define my index.jsp file to be shown when the entered url is like: www.mysite.com www.mysite.com/ www.mysite.com/index.jsp but if any other url is entered, like: wwww.mysite.com/g I want a particular servlet to handle the request. In my web.xml file, I am doing this: <servlet> <servlet-name>ServletCore</servlet-name> <servlet-class>com.me.test.ServletCore</servlet-class> </servlet> <servlet-mapping> <servlet-name>ServletCore</servlet-name> <url-pattern>/*</url-pattern> </servlet-mapping> so that is letting the ServletCore servlet pick up any url, but as expected it is taking over even the: www.mysite.com/index.jsp type urls. How can I define it in such a way to work how I want? Thank you

  • I seem to have found a major flaw with MSDN Help???

    It seems MSDN Help sometimes does not tell you a memeber of a class (which can be a property or a method) is overloaded. For example DetailsViewInsertEventArgs.Values property link text. It says it's a ReadOnly property which is wrong! In fact one of the overloaded Values property is ReadOnly but another one can be used to set some values! So by reading MSDN you have no way to know you can set some values with this property! That's a shame! What's your opinion? I'm only a beginner.

  • EF Query using .Contains() and .ToLowerInvariant() Results in no matches when match is found at the end of a string

    Is it possible to step into a linq query? I have a linq to entity framework 4 query in it's simplest form: List = List.Where(f => f.Value.ToString().ToLowerInvariant().Contains(filter.ToLowerInvariant())); It's a query against an Entity Framework DbContext and I'm having trouble seeing why it works for something like: List searching for 001 yields no results against the following list Test001 Test002 Test003 Test004 However any other search yields results (Such as t00 or Test) Update Basically I'm looking for why a query such as the above wouldn't return a result when I'm using a contains and the value matches the end of a string vs just the middle or begining. It's really confusing. OK, it appears to have something to do with ToLowerInvariant() - when I removed that method it works just fine.

  • RewitePath on IIS7 with .Net 3.5 or 4.0 - The resource cannot be found.

    In Global.asax handle errors by trying to redirect users to another page without changing the url in the address bar, that's why I am using RewritePath and not Redirect. void Application_Error(object sender, EventArgs e) { // Code that runs when an unhandled error occurs Context.RewritePath("~/Error.aspx", false); } Error.apsx in same root folder as About.aspx, and Default.aspx pages which of course work. Not sure I am having this issue. Have the following web.config file settings that I thought may be relevant: IIS7 settings: Application "TestRewriteUrl" under Default Web Site on DefaultAppPool. This example my seem trivial but I cannot use IIS7 HTTP Redirect as I actually was using this example to keep it simple. What I want to ultimately do is have a user type in http://www.somesite.com/myownpage and have it rewrite the path to another page in the same application directory by looking up the "myownpage" in the database to see what database id they have and redirect them to the correct "microsite" based on that without the user noticing a url change. Kind of like when you go to a blogging engine and no matter where in your blog you go the url remains the same. I don't want the user to go from http://www.mysite.com/tomshardware to http://www.mysite.com?id=8734656856. So that is why I used the simply example above to try and understand why the rewrite path does not work.

Is there something simple I'm doing wrong? How do I correctly access the resource?

  • nvidia driver problems after upgrading to 3.2.0-26 on Ubuntu 12.04 64bit

            Introduction:                     Building modern HTTP/RESTful/RPC services has become very easy with the new ASP.NET Web API framework. Using ASP.NET Web API framework, you can create HTTP services which can be accessed from browsers, machines, mobile devices and other clients. Developing HTTP services is now become more easy for ASP.NET MVC developer becasue ASP.NET Web API is now included in ASP.NET MVC. In addition to developing HTTP services, it is also important to return meaningful response to client if a resource(uri) not found(HTTP 404) for a reason(for example, mistyped resource uri). It is also important to make this response centralized so you can configure all of 'HTTP 404 Not Found' resource at one place. In this article, I will show you how to handle 'HTTP 404 Not Found' at one place.         Description:                     Let's say that you are developing a HTTP RESTful application using ASP.NET Web API framework. In this application you need to handle HTTP 404 errors in a centralized location. From ASP.NET Web API point of you, you need to handle these situations, No route matched. Route is matched but no {controller} has been found on route. No type with {controller} name has been found. No matching action method found in the selected controller due to no action method start with the request HTTP method verb or no action method with IActionHttpMethodProviderRoute implemented attribute found or no method with {action} name found or no method with the matching {action} name found.                                          Now, let create a ErrorController with Handle404 action method. This action method will be used in all of the above cases for sending HTTP 404 response message to the client.  public class ErrorController : ApiController { [HttpGet, HttpPost, HttpPut, HttpDelete, HttpHead, HttpOptions, AcceptVerbs("PATCH")] public HttpResponseMessage Handle404() { var responseMessage = new HttpResponseMessage(HttpStatusCode.NotFound); responseMessage.ReasonPhrase = "The requested resource is not found"; return responseMessage; } }                     You can easily change the above action method to send some other specific HTTP 404 error response. If a client of your HTTP service send a request to a resource(uri) and no route matched with this uri on server then you can route the request to the above Handle404 method using a custom route. Put this route at the very bottom of route configuration,  routes.MapHttpRoute( name: "Error404", routeTemplate: "{*url}", defaults: new { controller = "Error", action = "Handle404" } );                     Now you need handle the case when there is no {controller} in the matching route or when there is no type with {controller} name found. You can easily handle this case and route the request to the above Handle404 method using a custom IHttpControllerSelector. Here is the definition of a custom IHttpControllerSelector, public class HttpNotFoundAwareDefaultHttpControllerSelector : DefaultHttpControllerSelector { public HttpNotFoundAwareDefaultHttpControllerSelector(HttpConfiguration configuration) : base(configuration) { } public override HttpControllerDescriptor SelectController(HttpRequestMessage request) { HttpControllerDescriptor decriptor = null; try { decriptor = base.SelectController(request); } catch (HttpResponseException ex) { var code = ex.Response.StatusCode; if (code != HttpStatusCode.NotFound) throw; var routeValues = request.GetRouteData().Values; routeValues["controller"] = "Error"; routeValues["action"] = "Handle404"; decriptor = base.SelectController(request); } return decriptor; } }                     Next, it is also required to pass the request to the above Handle404 method if no matching action method found in the selected controller due to the reason discussed above.   • I have Ubuntu alongside Windows Vista and I cannot reboot Windows Vista

    I cannot get into Windows Vista .... I was working in Vista and then I restarted booted up Ubuntu and when I finished in Ubuntu I restarted this time in Vista and all I get is the microsoft box with the vertical stripes running interminably. I ran sudo update-grub this is the result of that command: generating grub.cfg found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-3.2.0-24-generic found initrd image: /boot/iniytd.img-3.2.0-24-generic found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-3.0.0-19-generic found linitrd image: /boot/initrd.img-3.0.0-19-generic found windows recovery environment (loader) on /dev/sda1 skipping windows recovery environment (loader) on Wubi system found windows vista (loader) on /dev/sda2 skipping windows vista (loader) on wubi system I do have a backup of my Windows environment on an external hard drive and I can get to it through ubuntu but I am not sure if I can restore Windows Vista from Ubuntu or even if I need to. Thanks for any help.

  • How to make grub stop appearing every time I boot?

    I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 and grub selections appear each time I boot. This happens on both of my computers. I have tried editing the /etc/defaults/grub to use default, to use the 0 entry, and ran the update on it. But nothing seems to solve the problem.
