• Wrong Sound Blaster's PCI ID within Windows

  I own Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium, it was working with no problems under Linux or Windows 7. It's original PCI ID is 1102:000b but now I see different within MS Windows. BIOS setup: 1102:000b GNU/Linux: 1102:000b Windows 7: 1102:000d Windows 8: 1102:000d In last days I'm experimenting with IOMMU PCI passthrough in Xen and I tried to pass this device to virtual Windows 7 and 8. Here I found this problem. I don't know if this is just coincidence or reason of my problem but it's wrong even in physical system. Windows detects 1102:000d as a High Definition Audio sound device (I guess this name, I have localized Windows, but this is general name, the same was with Realtek HDA before drivers), it's playing but it's unstable (Windows speaker testing can crash that application) and I can't install Creative software. Used driver is hdaudio.sys. Booting in BIOS or UEFI mode doesn't change anything. Nor CMOS clean. Someone met the same problem.

• Clonezilla is not able to clone a RAID 1 disk

  I have a HP Server DL320 G5. There are two SATA hard disks configured as RAID 1 through HP embedded RAID controller. Server OS is running GNU/Linux (Fedora) Server booted up with clonezilla live CD. The image will be stored on a NAS connected through NFS. Clonezilla could mount the NFS share and could see the two hard disks /dev/sda and /dev/sdb. I selected /dev/sda for disk cloning. However I could not see the cloning progress and got straight into a prompt for reboot, poweroff, command line I tried to select /dev/sdb but the same issue.

• Suppress EXT3-fs warning on mount

  I am familiar with output suppress on Unix machines, ie: cat /file/that/doesnt/exist > /dev/null 2>& However I can't seem to suppress the output of mount when an ext3 filesystem is mounted for the nth time, and it recommends an fsck. As it happens, fscks are run regularly by another machine, so these warning messages are needlessly interrupting the flow of output to my pretty bash script. These are the errors: # mount -t ext3 /dev/sda1 /mnt > /dev/null 2>& kjournald starting. Commit interval 5 seconds EXT3-fs warning: maximal mount count reached, running e2fsck is recommended EXT3 FS 2.4-0.9.19, 19 August 2002 on sd(8,1), internal journal EXT3-fs: mounted filesystem with ordered data mode. • Anyone interested in obtaining a cable list from a visio Diagram? [closed]

  it's my first post here. Just wondering if anyone had to deal with the following problem - you have to install over say a 100 network elements and servers - cabling is done via contractors, so you need to provide them with an accurate, error-free cable list - your inputs are a set of detailed, port by port, visio diagrams. Prb is to obtain the cable list and get the cabling started while you're busy crafting the switch/routers configs. I coded a Visio plugin, which I plan to release under the GNU license, that returns a cable list from a diagram, and tested it on intermediate size infrastructure, 2K+ cables. It works well. The tool needs a little work to be user friendly, so before getting started, I wanted to know if that was worth the effort. Questions are welcomed, let me know -A PS: the tool is targeted for those who need a port by port description of their network, in the form Source/slot/port/Destination/slot/port.

• Redirect one input from one terminal to another

  I have sshed into a linux box and I'm using dvtm and bash (although I have also tried this with Gnu screen and bash). I have two terminals, current /dev/pts/29 and /dev/pts/130. I want to redirect the input from one to the other. From what I understand, in /dev/pts/130 I can type: cat </dev/pts/29 And then when I type in /dev/pts/29 the characters I type should show up in /dev/pts/130. However what ends up happening is that every other character I type gets redirected. For example, if I type "hello" I get this: /dev/pts/29 | /dev/pts/130 $ | $ cat </dev/pts/29 $ el | hlo This is really frustrating as I need to do this in order to redirect the io of a process running in gdb (I've tried both run /dev/pts/# and set inferior-tty /dev/pts/# and both resulted in the aforementioned behavior). Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug in bash/screen/dvtm?

• How to stop scheduled chkdisk on windows 7?

  Hi! I have a problem with windows 7 64-bit. I was trying out chkdsk command line options and scheduled a chddsk /r on next start. After that I disassembled the laptop on which I set the chkdsk. After I reassembled it, windows gets normally to the point where it should start the check and then hangs when the countdown reaches 1 second. During the countdown, it doesn't detect any input from keyboard. At first I thought that I didn't correctly install the keyboard, but under GNU/Linux, everything is working fine and I can normally mount the windows partition . So is there any way to stop the scheduled chkdsk? I really don't feel like reinstalling windows again because I just finished setting up my tool-chain the way I like it and compiled about 6GiB worth of dependencies I need for some project I'm working on.

I want to diff the files and have an output of all strings that exist only in file2. Preferabbly I want the operation to be possible without any 3rd party tools, or with a minimum of installations of tools that is "normal" to find in a windows command line environment, such as GNU Diffutils, Powershell, etc. The output should be in text form (file or as command line output). • CentOS/Apache killing connections

  Getting a really strange error. Basically, whenever I browse to my server (http://[ip_address] or http://[hostname]), it doesn't load, and my active SSH connection drops out. I installed CentOS 5.5, and then httpd and PHP 5.3. No other applications where installed, so I can't imagine it's something else causing it. I also reinstalled CentOS 5.5 again, completely fresh, the only thing I did to it was yum install httpd, and it still caused this issue. I've changed nothing in the config or anything else. Driving me mad, has anyone heard of this? It's really frustrating since everytime I attempt to debug this issue, I get kicked off SSH and have to log back in. Theres nothing in the Apache error logs, and nothing in the access log recording my attempt. • Change Windows Server 2012 color scheme without Desktop Experience feature

  I have a Windows Server 2012, blue is nice... but I'd prefer a less "eyes puncher" color, maybe gray or black... I'm a GNU/Linux sysadmin and just the fact of have the entire GUI on a server is difficult for me, so I would avoid to install the Desktop Experience feature just to change the color of the GUI. I have read here: How to change color scheme in Windows Server 2012 That once I've changed color I may remove the Desktop Experience feature and the color will not be reverted to the original. So I guess there must be a way to change the color without install this feature pack, because looks like it just adds the control panel to set the color, but not the core feature, that maybe could be accessible within some registry key. Does someone have some idea?

• mod_access for lighttpd causes a 403 error for all POST requests

  I have found on my debian server that running the lighttpd module mod_access is causing the server to response with a 403 to all POST requests. It's very odd as I have two servers, one is running as I'd expect and the other keeps returning these 403's. They are running identical configs for lighttpd and php. My lighttpd.conf is: https://gist.github.com/4269500 There is also one other custom conf: https://gist.github.com/4269508 I've opened up the servers for requests until I get this fixed, the server that works is http://mercury.isitup.org/ and the one that fails is http://venus.isitup.org/. After working out that disabling mod_access resolves the problem I greped all my lighttpd configs for uses of it (docs). Disabling each line I found didn't help, leading me to think this is perhaps some default behaviour (or bug?)... Has anyone come across this before or know what configuration value I've got wrong? • Port based bandwidth shaping

  I have an interent connection with the speed of 4000k bits up and down. I want to do port based traffic shaping on a ubuntu machine, which acts as router. eth0 is the WAN interface. This is how I would like to allocate bandwidth: For ports 80 and 445 the bandwidth usage can go upto 90% For ports above 1024 upto 65535 the bandwidth usage can go upto 10% For remaining ports the bandwidth usage can go upto 40% The easiest way for achieving the above is using a router with tomato firmware. I have used it and it is very efficient. I want to try if it can be done on a Ubuntu or any GNU/Linux machine. I have googled extensively about the topic and I feel there isn't much information.

• WLAN LED randomly blinking when there is no traffic

  Hi, I've got a Linksys WUSB54GC WLAN USB interface (Ralink chipset) and I'm running Debian GNU/Linux 6.0. The LED very often randomly blinks although there is no traffic in the network. I checked this with Wireshark. Sometimes, but rarely, the LED stops blinking. The issue is present in Ubuntu and Fedora too. It was not present in Debian Lenny with Linux 2.6.28. I checked an old live cd with ubuntu 8.10 with kernel 2.6.27 and it was also OK. So I guess that's an issue with Linux kernel and its wireless driver or firmware. Has anybody observed a similar thing? Does anybody know how to help this annoying blinking? Thanks.

• b43 module loaded, but no interface showed up

  I'm using CentOS 6.3 x86_64 on a hardware with a BCM43224 chip for wi-fi. I installed the b43-fwcutter module and then run modprobe b43, with no error messages. • Screen tearing with GeForce 550 Ti

  Recently I switched to the new monitor and graphic card - DELL U2312HM and GeForce GTX 550 Ti. I have problems with screen tearing (like in this picture from Wikipedia). Usually it is somewhere in upper part of the screen. Mainly happens in videos (in flash videos tearing heavier). In games all fine, except in-game videos (sometimes even videos built on game engine), but gameplay itself is clear, even in very fast actions. Connection with DVI. Problems both in Linux (Debian GNU/Linux, openSUSE 12.1, Linux Mint 13) and Windows (Windows XP, Windows 7), with various driver versions. 1920x1080, 60Mhz. How can I resolve this?

• Linux kernel with grsec + Java / Apache Tomcat

  I've got a Debian Linux 64 bit dedicated server. The kernel has the grsec patch applied. I'm mainly using this server to run Apache Tomcat (6.0.26, Java 6) and everything seems fine. The only issue, is that when I start Tomcat, I get a few of these: grsec: From xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx: Segmentation fault occurred at 00007fefe04e4000 in /home/t/jre1.6.0_20/bin/java[java:22403] uid/euid:1001/1001 gid/egid:1001/1001, parent /sbin/init[init:1] uid/euid:0/0 gid/egid:0/0 grsec: more alerts, logging disabled for 10 seconds Then no error logs anymore. Everything is fine. The kernel is: Linux 2.6.32.2-xxxx-grs-ipv4-64 #1 SMP Tue Dec 29 14:41:12 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux And the webapp works fine. So there are segmentation fault when Tomcat starts, but everything seems to works fine. Is this concerning? Should I move to a non-grsec kernel?

• Solaris 10 opencsw git package issue with bitbucket git hosting

  Has anyone tried using `git' from opencsw package in order to work with bitbucket source hosting service (under solaris10)? I tried to use git as the bitbucket documentation explains, and - under Debian GNU/Linux, it worked flawlessly as described, but - under Solaris 10, I got Authentication Failed message. I even tried to run truss to see anything is suspicious but could not find any smoking gun under solaris why it failed. ldd git-binary didnd't show anything suspicious either (except for the libcrypt library which could be a suspicious to think about export restrictions. Have they shipped incompatible version? BUT since the password is typed into https: connection, I suspect it is only a matter of web-level cryptography and should be universal these days.) I am now tempted to compile git suite under solaris 10, but I did find people who seem to be using git with bitbucket under solaris 10 and am wondering what could be wrong.

  I am running a Debian virtual server with Apache, PHP, MySQL. There is just 1 website with very low traffic running but the server very often (almost everyday) freezes and does not respond. When this happens the server is unreachable from web browser or by SSH and I have to go to administration of my provider and perform server hard reset after this the server seems to work fine. • What is the correct cipher name for RC4 in Chrome?

  I want to remove RC4 from Google Chrome and found the commandline option --cipher-suite-blacklist. However I wasn't able to figure out what the correct notation for RC4 is. Whatever I tried so far only brought the message: ERROR:ssl_config_service_manager_pref.cc(55)] Ignoring unrecognized or \ unparsable cipher suite: Even the names listed in ssl_cipher_suite_names.cc don't work. What should I enter to remove RC4 as a cipher for SSL/TLS? I'm working with some different versions of GNU/Linux and sometimes also with Windows. So it would be nice if the command-line argument would work under all OSes. • Will Bluetooth hands-free drivers be installed if BT stack doesn't support A2DP?

  I have a hands-free device which has no problems being paired with windows and I can set it to be the default sound output device, I don't actually hear anything on the unit, but it worked fine with GNU/Linux and with my mobile phone. From what I can see, the cause of that is usually a problem with Bluetooth stack. I think that I have Broadcom Bluetooth stack installed, so it should be working but it isn't. To make things better, my Bluetooth radio is integrated into my laptop and manufacturer isn't providing drivers for it and Broadcom itself recently pulled support, so I can't just reinstall the stack to make sure I have newest version.

  I have Ubuntu 10.10 installed and need to plot 3D graphic. I have installed several free applications available in the repository, like QtiPlot and GNU Octave. I have found out and created the following graphic. Now I have to show in the same graphic the position of my experiment results, which consist of elements with three parameters: X, Y and Z coordinates which had been calculated with the same function as above graphic. Any idea to do that? Would be better if you propose solution in free apps,because there are several proprietary apps like Maple or MATLAB. Thank you very much. • Postfix - How to configure to send these emails?

  I want my mailserver to send mail from my local application "from" any user supplied email address "to" my own address, say "[email protected]". The MX records for "mysite.com" actually point to a different server, even though the outgoing mainserver is running with mydomain set as "mysite.com". Perhaps this is part of the problem? postfix is currently causing a SMTPRecipientsRefused error within the python application. Can anyone point me to what to change in the configuration? • Installing Linux from External Card Reader

  I have this problem. I was experimenting if I could use a memory card (SDHC) as an USB drive for all intents and purposes, and when I put the card in an USB card reader, I can use it just like regular USB stick and it also shows up in the BBS popup menu as an USB stick. When I tried to create an installation media out of it like this: sudo dd if=/path/to/image of=/dev/sdb And tried to boot from it, simply nothing happened. Cursor blinked a couple times, and jumped to the GRUB of my pre-existing GNU/Linux installation. What am I missing here? Is this not doable? I tried this with Xubuntu 12.04 and ArchLinux, by the way. I have also tried UNetBootIn instead of dd. Nothing happened differently.
