• Google Analytics: understanding dimensions and metrics?

  If I run a query on the Google Analytics API and set the dimension to ga:pagePathLevel1 and the metric to ga:avgTimeOnPage, I get results like this: { pagePathLevel1: /about, avgTimeOnPage: 28 }, { pagePathLevel1: /contact, avgTimeOnPage: 10 } I'm not completely sure how to interpret this. Is the value of avgTimeOnPage the average time spent by any user on all pages that match that path? Or is 28 seconds the average time spent by any user on any single page that matches that path? I'm looking for the average time spent across all pages matching that path, but the time estimates look shorter than I'd expect. I hope that question makes sense! Please tell me if it doesn't.

• What is the best technical ebook reader? [closed]

I just wanted an opinion of other fellow programmers on which is the most suitable ebook reader for the technical book? • How to calculate production when player is offline

  What is the best way to do for example food growth based on how many food buildings you have? Lets say I have a webbased game where you can build a farm wich generates 60 food units per hour. A player has 1 farm in his possession. What is the best way to keep on producing these units even when the player is offline? Should I do the math when the player get's back online again? If so..how can I do this without having to save his last online time every 5 seconds so I can do some maths with it when he logs back in (datetime.now - lastonlinetime)? Next thing is when the player is online, should I refresh his resource count every 5 seconds or so by going to the database and back? This would seem weird to do for every logged on player. • How can I convince a project manager that there is no way to solve all the compatibility issues?

  I have been working on this project for more than a year now, and we are close to release, the project manager wants the product to be perfect and working in every single aspect. I like that and I love working under the perfection idea, but it seems he is delaying the launch too much because of compatibility issues, he wants the product to work in every single installation, every single configuration possible, and in most cases, the product just works without issues when it's on the hands of the client. UPDATE : yes the product doesn't work properly when there are conflicts, for example, other products that don't use guidelines nor standards to load libraries (causes double library load which leads to failure), cache is another example and so on..... but we warn the clients about the conflict before purchasing and help them fixing it after purchasing I've tried to explain it by giving some examples on major products, he understands the situation, but can not believe that it is near impossible (if it is not impossible) to do what he wants. Hope it is clarified enough for the community to answer.

  I have a problem with the new Ubuntu 12.10. It finished installing correctly, but when I restart my computer an error message appears: [15.854296] [drm: drm_crtc_helper_set_config] * error * failed to set mode on [CRTC: 10] * checking battery state [17.814209] [drm: drm_crtc_helper_set_config] * error * failed to set mode on [CRTC: 10] and that screen does not advance. I also tried booting from the recovery mode and it starts, but it's too slow loading windows and also shows me a window with an error message: Sorry Ubuntu 12.10 has experienced an internal error More Details: Executable path /usr/bin/xorg I have used Ubuntu since the 2008 version and never had this problem. • How to create website shortcuts on the desktop / in a folder using Chrome?

  Help with something really basic, which I am unable to figure out. In Windows creating a shortcut (link) for a website is as easy as dragging-and-dropping the favicon/address bar to the desktop or a folder. I tried the same in Ubuntu (Chrome browser), but it's not working. The web page is being saved as a file, but not as a link/shortcut. Am I missing something or is there no way to quickly create shortcuts to web pages/web sites without installing some app for that? If the above is true, is there an app that does what I need? I hope I am clear enough.

• Switching to an external display, when primary is broken

  I've successfully install Ubuntu 11.10 Desktop (x86) on an old(er) laptop that unfortunately has a broken screen, so there is an external monitor plugged in. On the livecd it come up on the secondary display just fine and I was able to install ubuntu and everything. Unfortunately when I reboot into Ubuntu proper now, the secondary display is off and I'm literally driving blind here trying to switch it to the secondary display. Using Nvidia open source drivers. Things I've tried: Rebooting back into livecd, mounting the partition and trying in vain to find a config file (it uses the open source drivers so no Xorg.conf I could edit manually) Trying to blind-type xrandr settings into what I hope is terminal: xrandr --output VGA1 --auto (nothing happened) Trying to blind install openssh-server so I could ssh into it and maybe configure it from my working computer. For some reason though, no luck. Ubuntu really should default to expanding to all screens for this use case.

  I need to install Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player to check an URL for testing purpose. Could someone post me the exact steps to acheive this task? Note: I have already tried installing IE in Ubuntu 10.10 and later versions (12.04) with Wine. It works fine. But I don't get success installing Windows Media Player. Hope someone will solve my problem. It will be great if someone gives me a neat solution for installing IE and WMP in Ubuntu (10.10 or later).

I watched many links but most projects for some reason hide their authors names (showing some nick names or something...) and all developing process relative information... For example this one project it seems fine but still I couldn't find any information concerning some current project task(s), its developers group, some chronicles (tips, milestones, feedbacks etc) :( I googled a lot but found less :S So I wondering maybe you know some? • GMail API for a small app (Rails? Javascript? PHP?)

  I want to create an app that accesses the GMail API, but I'm finding that it isn't as simple as I thought it might be. I'm hoping somebody in the community here might have some experience working with one of these API's and could not only recommend the right solution, but also show me to some tutorials or examples that could help me get up and running. Here are some of the requirements of this app: Preferably in Rails or Javascript or even PHP. I am open to other technologies as well, but hope they'd be easy to implement. Connects to gmail via Oauth Can read who emails have been sent to and received from. Basically would like to perform some analytics on who emails are sent to, when and how frequently. I've read that one reason why this isn't easy, and why there isn't an official javascript API provided by gmail, is that google is concerned it's going to make their service less performant for their users.

• Multiple ( V- / I- ) Buffers, is it sane?

  Currently I am developing an RTS game using XNA ( / ANX.Framework ). There is one thing bothers me. I am not sure in what way or how to organise Buffers. Should I use a new Vertexbuffer for any object ( e.g. a Char, a Table, an model ) or is it better to use ONE HUGE/ BIG Buffer to store any geometry in? I am still new to 3D Programming though I finished yet couple games using DirectX 9. Well, I hope this question qin't a duplicate and I appreciate any answer leading me into the right direction.

• eth0 not working on startup

  Hi to all, This might sound strange but, working with my Lubuntu 10.04 i've experienced troubles when connecting to my eth0 newtwork. After some googling, i've found out that by writting in the CLI the following command: mii-tool eth0 -F 10baseT-FD and activating the eth0 in the toolbar (by clicking "activate eth0") everything works just fine. Well, up to now, i did not have any problem, because every time i turned on the computer i had to do this, but it was very little effort.But now, i would like to use the machine as a file server, accesing it by ssh, without monitor or keyboard. So, i won't be able to make this actions, and can't do this at startup because mii-tool needs root permissions. So, the question is: Do you know what does that command do, and how can id make that change permanent? Or do you know any other solution for my problem? I hope i was clear! If not, tell me and i'll try to be as clearer as possible. Thanks in advance!

• Naming convention: field starting with "m" or "s"

I saw lot of code (for example some Android source code) where fields name start with a "m" while static fields start with "s" Example (taken from Android View class source): private SparseArray<Object> mKeyedTags; private static int sNextAccessibilityViewId; I was wondering what "m" and "s" stand for... maybe is "m" mutable and "s" static? Since it seems that is a largely adopted pattern do you know if there some literature about this kind of naming convention?

• Can I properly use NS2 on latest Ubuntu 12.04?

  I am a novice user for Ubuntu because I need to work with NS2. NS2 properly work only in Linux, Ubuntu. Now, I wonder if it can properly work on latest version Ubuntu. My current window is Window7. I also want to use Window7. So, which one will be better on parallel booting of Window 7 and Ubuntu or using VMWare on Window7 to install Ubuntu. My RAM is 4G. My processor speed is 1.6G. If I use VMWare, my C drive is only extra 10G. So, does VMWare can work properly in D drive? Please let me know which way is the best for my situation. I hope the advice from anyone. • Resolution problems

  i'm having some troubles with screen resolution. First of all, i'm using a Lenovo Thinkpad E520, with BackTrack 5 R2 installed. As far as I know, BT is based on Ubuntu 3.2, so I hope this is the right place to ask for help. My natural resolution is 1366x768, but I'm stuck with 1024x768. This is my hardware: lspci | grep VGA 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Interl Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09) How can I fix that? Is there a ready-to-use driver or I have to compile that from source? At least, is there a solution, at all? :(

• Two different domain for specific languages pointing to one site

  I developing a client's blog and he needs it to be bilingual (english and spanish). Now what he wants is that users can get to the content based on the domain e.g. Jhon enters www.domain.com and he gets the english version and Juan enters www.elsenordominio.com to get the spanish version. All content will be validated by php so the users and search engines only reads the domain related language. What do i need to use header re-direct or 301? is it bad for seo? will google will google penalize me? I hope you guys can help me and forgive me if my english is not good.

  Torrent from the Pirate Bay even though I have Tixati installed and working? Asks for an application which I don't have (apturl or something similar?) Trying to get the latest AMD Radeon drivers automatically installed? the main file downloads...but just shows up in a window full of files but idk where to drag them. And PlayOnLinux my one hope for gaming since Steam is buggin out without proper drivers? Can't figure out where to "mount" the DVD version it asks for. I'm so lost. I dove head first into the Linux thing thinking it was wildly superior, and maybe it is, but dang if the simplest things aren't hard to do. Any help appreciated. I've been reading guides and manuals but what I need is human experience most of all.

  I got a hosting account at HOSTGATOR. it was a shared account and i had three websites present over there. now, i have upgraded my account to VPS at HOSTGATOR and i want to transfer only ONE website over the new VPS. say, mydom.net. this website includes wordpress installation and other custom pages and setup can somebody please guide me How can I transfer the web to my new account? with speed, accuracy, and such that my website remains in working condition.. what will I do about wordpress? simply copy it will work?(I dont thnk so), if not how can I move it? • Using fix-boot but still stuck

  I have a laptop I used to use for college that was Ubuntu 10.4 /Vista / Win7. I pulled it out and proceeded to install 12.04 advanced partitioning. It was sda1 ubuntu / swap / vista / and sda5 win7. I deleted the ubuntu, swap and vista, leaving 7 alone. I'm using it now but can't get to win7. I used fix-boot several times using variations on the advanced menus. So I finally purged grub and forced grup-pc in the advanced setting of fix-boot.
