• Will URL encoding the image names affect Google

  Just wondering if it makes any difference to Google whether or not I URL encode the image names when linking to them. For example if I have an image named "test-1234-!.jpg", does it make a difference if I name it refer to it as "test-1234-%21.jpg"? The reason I am asking is because I am doing a major shift in the way my website works and while all new image names will not be URL encoded, all of the past ones are. I want to see if it is worth it renaming all of them or if I should just leave it like that.

  The version of python which I am using is 2.6, and there is a 2.7 and 3.x. Usually I use python for some trivial program/snippet. I realize there are some major difference between 2.x and 3.x. I would really like to know, if I am going to make a bigger project with python, which version of python should I use? Should I upgrade to 2.7, or go to 3.x or stay with 2.6? • alternatives for google adwords? [on hold]

  I'm making tests on my landing page, and trying to get some traffic using google adwords. Everytime I make a change or add a new keyword, I have to wait for two or three days for google to aprove the keywords. I'm in Italy, don't know if this happens anywhere else. But is really upsetting. Note: they keywords are things like fortran, SaaS, python... So, I'm looking for an adwords alternative that is fast. That is, if I change the keywords, I can start getting traffic as soon as possible without the long approval time. PD: I've found many alternatives to adwords, but they don't say anything about how fast your adds and keywords are approved which is my major problem right now. That, and price.

• Drivers for GeForce 7300 GS?

  I have been searching EVERYWHERE!!!!! And I cannot seem to find a driver for my GeForce 7300 GS video card. If I don't get it, the Android SDK emulator won't work. I get this error while starting the emulator up: X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation) Major opcode of failed request: 154 (GLX) Minor opcode of failed request: 19 (X_GLXQueryServerString) Serial number of failed request: 12 Current serial number in output stream: 12 I looked up anything and everything, and the results I got was to get a video card driver, which I can not find.   I am a CS major. I've taken 2 courses in C (Intro to C and CS1) and 1 introductory course to OOP with Java. I really like Java and feel that I have a firm understanding of OOP concepts. I am really interested in web development and would like to learn a programming language that can be used to build dynamic web applications. My question is what language should I learn? I've narrowed it down to python or ruby. Also, I want to learn a programming language that will help me get a job upon graduating. Major technique I have found so far are two: Some use a overlay and underlay div and fade in and out each others visibility.   Anyone know of a reputable domain name company which deals in .museum domain names? Previously we had used DomainBank without much issue. DomainBank was bought by Dotster and am having nothing but trouble since the switch. Currently the website has been down for two days and it is a MAJOR issue. • Rendering trillions of "atoms" instead of polygons?

  I just saw a video about what the publishers call the "next major step after the invention of 3D". According to the person speaking in it, they use a huge amount of atoms grouped into clouds instead of polygons, to reach a level of unlimited detail. They tried their best to make the video understandable for persons with no knowledge of any rendering techniques, and therefore or for other purposes left out all details of how their engine works. The level of detail in their video does look quite impressive to me. How is it possible to render scenes using custom atoms instead of polygons on current hardware? (Speed, memory-wise) If this is real, why has nobody else even thought about it so far? I'm, as an OpenGL developer, really baffled by this and would really like to hear what experts have to say. Therefore I also don't want this to look like a cheap advert and will include the link to the video only if requested, in the comments section.

• Site loads Extremely slowly over HTTPS; loads perfectly over HTTP - Sudden and new issue

  My business' website suddenly started loading extremely slowly over HTTPS last night and continues through today. The facts: Page loadtime via HTTPS - 2 minutes +, HTTP - 3 seconds max. NO updates were done on any site files in the past 2 weeks. This is on Shared Hosting HTTPS has worked perfectly over the past 9 months then suddenly failed yesterday. Hosting company and SSL issuer say there are no problems on their end. - Searches for others having similar issues return no results, it appears to be just me... Site is primarily run via php/mysql Currently attempted troubleshooting: Tried all major browsers and different versions - same result. Tried 2 separate ISPs - same result. Tried proxies - same result. Tried 3 separate computers - same result. I'm basically at a total loss here. Does anyone know what could cause such a thing to happen? Please help guide troubleshooting.

• Is there any problem with using two slashes in the middle of a URL? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: What does the double slash mean in URLs? I'm working on a mod_rewrite URL structure as follows: http://example.com/search/filter1/filter2/filter3/filter4 There are some conditions where it is OK for the first attribute to be blank, but i want to keep the other attributes in the same position. (Otherwise I can't assume that the attribute in the second position represents what I want it to represent.) However this results in some URLs like this: http://example.com/search//filter2/filter3/filter4 This seems to work in all browsers I've tested (Chrome,Firefox,IE9,IE compatible) and I'm not seeing any errors on the server side, so I can't think of any problems in using it. But it just looks wrong and weird to me and I'm not used to seeing it. Are there any potential downsides to using a structure that encourages URLs like this, or any major reasons no one seems to use it? (Everything I search in Google assumes I'm talking about the two slashes after http:)

• How to elegantly work with a lot of print functions?

  I'm working on a Python project that is executed on a terminal (or console) for which I am planning to implement a GUI. I did not major in CS so I really have no idea how to effectively design a terminal GUI such that: the user interface looks good in GUI, it is directed to a certain widget, let's say, a text label, or a bottom bar, or a hide-able frame. Do you have any suggestions? Currently, I am using the print function to provide essential information on STDOUT during execution, so a lot of print calls are distributed here and there in the code. I'm thinking of using macro-like variables such as 'FILE_NOT_EXISTS_MESSAGE' for printing, and all of them and their values would be defined in one file. Is that a standard way to do this? Should I introduce a logging system? In summary, I'm looking for a pattern for handling console output that is effective and adaptable.

• What makes Java so suitable for writing NoSQL Databases

  Looking at this page that aggregates the current NoSQL landscape, one can see that the majority of these projects are written in Java. Databases are complex systems software dealing with the file system, and so C/C++ would be a better choice than Java for this. (that's my thinking which might be flawed) Secondly, databases deal with transferring large amounts of data from disk to RAM -- which they call a working set. The JVM takes non-trivial amount of RAM for it's own purpose -- so it would be more efficient to use a platform that leaves lots of memory for data instead of hogging it for its own operations. The major relational databases are ALL written in C/C++ MySQL C, C++ Oracle Assembler, C, C++ SQL Server C++ PostgreSQL C SQLite C So what makes Java so popular in NoSQL world.

• Legally, can I re reuse code for different customers?

  The company I work for develops custom factory automation applications for multiple customers. Even though each application is custom, they contain common code which is re-used across projects. One of the customers is now looking for the source code to their application, which has caused a major storm in the company. Management have decided that we can't give them the source to the shared components as they are used by other customers. I've been asked to modify the shared components 'enough' so as they aren't common. So my questions are: 1) Legally, should there be any problem with re-using common components for different customer? 2) If I really need to modify the common components, then how much is 'enough' ? (I know this sucks, but I either do this or hand in my notice). Oh yeah, and my company has no license in place with any of these customers.

• Where can I get the 11.04 kernel .config file?

  I'm using Maverick with the latest available kernels on kernel.org and building them myself. Until now I've been basing my configuration off the stock Maverick kernel and accepting the make oldconfig defaults. I've been doing this for 3 major releases now so I figure I'm starting to slip behind the current "standard". I would like to re-base my kernels off the new Natty .config file. Is this available somewhere online or do I have to download the whole kernel package and extract it? Edit: I've manually pulled in the config from the latest Natty kernel package and I can confirm that I propbably should have done this sooner. A lot of differences between my old "evolved" config and the Natty default. Now if I could just do this without 20 minutes of hunting and downloading the package so I can re-base in the future.
