    I am trying to capture a live video from my digital camera using Windows 7. Live Movie maker and Windows Movie maker 2.6 do not have "capture" menu item. Apparently, Windows Movie maker 2.1 has a "capture" menu item. However, I don't know how to download it on Windows 7. Any suggestion?

  • Book recommendation for a Ruby dev learning Java

    I've been a Ruby developer for the past 4-5 years, and prior to that coded in Perl and a language called ProvideX for years. As hard as it may seem, I've never written a Java application short of the basic Hello World app probably a decade ago. I'm beginning to start doing some Android development to port some iPhone applications we did for a client over to the Android platform. As such, I'm wondering what the best reference book I can buy is to get up to speed quickly with the features (and peculiarities) of Java. There are numerous "Learn Ruby for Java programmers" out there, but not really any reference books for going the otherway of Ruby-to-Java. I'm looking for something preferably like the "Learn Perl the Hard Way" book. I know how to code, I just need a reference on learning the proper mechanics of Java after having done Ruby (and a bit of Obj-C) work exclusively for the past few years.

    I am new to this stackoverflow and programming. So HI!!!! What i hope to do is tell something that i think is important to Dart community. If somehow it was possible to code android and or iphone apps using dart that would be very awesome and same for Dart.... There is one path, that is making program in dart compiling it to javascript and then making app using Adobe air..... .But looks inefficient. so is there any other way which i am unaware of, via which i can build an android app at least.. using dart i know you can build an app, using javascript..and css+html...so i am looking for html+css+dart. It'd be cool if adobe air supports dart language directly.

  • whats the difference between GPU and framegrabber?

    I am working on a project to monitor if human tissue has been fused with radio frequency during the surgery or not, therefore we are using a very fast camera (1800fps) and also laser illumination on the tissue and a framegrabber (1GB memory). I notice that, instead of a framegrabber, I'm able to use GPU as well, but I am not sure on what's the difference between them? Can any body explain what is the difference between a frame grabber and a GPU?

So in android when pressing a button code for passing an argument would be like that: Intent i = new Intent(MainScreen.this,OtherScreen.class); Bundle b = new Bundle(); b.putString("data_1",data); i.putExtras(b); startActivity(i); and on the activity that opens, i would write something like this: Bundle b = getIntent().getExtras(); ski_center=b.getString("data_1"); what methods should I need to change in MainScreen and in OtherScreen in IOS to achieve the above. Basically I will have 3 buttons lets say in my MainScreen and each of it will open the Otherview but each time a different parameter will be passed. Foe example for each button i have code like these in MainScreen.m @synthesize fl; -(IBAction) ifl:(id) sender { } So I need your help in where to place the "missing" code, too.

    I have created a simple app for my client with his selection of youtube videos embedded via iframe player and html5. The app got approved in android store whereas itunes rejected it claiming below, "Apps may not use protected third party material such as trademarks, copyrights, patents or violate 3rd party terms of use. Authorization to use such material must be provided upon request" Below is the link for the app in android. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jayam.shortfilms While I share videos using the html code obtained from youtube share button, still apple is claiming that I should provide evidence of copyright from each video owner. Any experiences of this kind will be very helpful for me.

  • producing a typewriter-like effect

    Android newb here. Please use small words :-) I'd like to simulate typewriter output on my Android. The output being displayed is generated by a game and is somewhat freeform. The effect I want to see individual characters appear at a rate of about 6 characters a second. When a 'carriage return' is seen, I'd like to insert a delay then resume typing on the left. What are some suggestions on views? Would the view of choice for this be a TextView? Even that seems like overkill for this read-only coarsely scrolling output. I saw something on this thread about an AsyncTask. That looks useful. Perhaps my game will write to some manner of buffer, and a subclass of AsyncTask will pull characters out every .15 seconds or so, add them to the TextView, then invalidate() the TextView? Sound like a plan?

  • Developing web app, question for mobile developers

    I'm going to develop a web app that I expect some people will also end up wanting to view on their phones. The UI will be fairly straightforward (no frames, just CSS/HTML). May have a bit of Flash, but not for the first version. My question is, for testing viewing of the web app on mobile devices what devices would you recommend that I test on (and thus, most likely, have to purchase)? Windows Mobile iPhone Android Other? or can I use emulators for any/all of these? Note that I'm not developing a platform (android, iPhone) specific app, just a web application that I expect will also be accessed from a mobile phone. I apologise if this seems like a niave/stupid question, but this hobby project is totally away from my commercial experience and I just don't know the answers to these questions, hence asking here.   • Recover not properly burned DVD from camcoder

    Can anybody suggest me any good and preferably free software - working on Vista / 7 - for recovering content from DVD disks? A few DVD-R VOB files cannot be read from disk by Windows. Probably the camera failed to burn it correctly. What I want to achieve is to skip a few invalid frames in VOB files and recreate proper MPEG stream - without re-encoding whole stream and loosing the quality.

    I have pictures of handwritten text and some of them are blurred, because the camera was shaky. If someone could point out any techniques that I can use to bring it to readable quality would be great. It is really a closeup, and I'm pretty sure it is doable.     I'm trying to create a QR code that launches a Facebook page from the app, rather than the browser on both Android and iOS. Creating the code with fb://page/<page id>, works perfectly on an Android. This was also supposed to work with iOS's Facebook app, but I think since Facebook updated their app recently from a HTML5 version to a fully native iOS app, that functionality has stopped working. It indeed opens the Facebook app, but it does not go to the page. Has anyone else seen this happen since the app was updated a few weeks ago? And what string would I have to use to create a working QR Code for iOS's Facebook app?

  • Java - Confused by the one class per file rule

    The one class per file rule in Java has me a bit confused. I writing an Android app and trying to implement the accepted answer to this question: Common class for AsyncTask in Android? which calls for an interface definition which class A implements and class B accepts as an argument to its constructor. So I need an A.java and a B.java, but where does the interface go? Does it need a separate java file itself? Do I have to define it inside both A and B? If not how to import it? Also I will have about 10 different AsyncTask classes, but I don't want to bother creating a new file for each one. What would you recommend? Is there a way to put all 10 classes in one file? Or should I create a big if/then block inside the class and pass an argument telling it which of the 10 different tasks I want it to do?

  • Mercurial: two separate repos somewhat related (yes I'm getting confused)

    I have a local repository, let's call it ONE. ONE is the actual program. It's an android program, in case it matters for some reason. I have a remote repository, let's call it EXT. EXT is somewhat a library, used by ONE. ONE has a complex directory structure, mandated by android. The main sources are in src/bla/bla/ONE. Since ONE uses EXT, to do it I had to create another directory next to that one, that is src/bla/bla/EXT. I think would like to keep them separated in two repositories, but I need for them to actually be in this same directory structure to compile ONE. At the moment I just created a symlink to do it, but I wonder if there is a better way of doing that, that uses some hg feature.
