    I am having trouble applying an animation to a View. I am trying to load the animation from inside the constructor of a CursorAdapter, so I can set it later assign it to certain children in the list.     I have a website that lets people view rows in a table (each row is a picture). There are more than 100,000 rows. You can view different subsets of the rows, and you can view them with different sort orders. While you are viewing one of the rows, you can click the "Next" or "Previous" buttons to go the next/previous row in the list. How would you implement the "Next" and "Previous" features of the website? More specifically, if you have an arbitrary query that returns a list of up to 100,000+ rows, and you know some information about the current row someone is viewing, how do you determine the NEXT row efficiently? Here is the pseudo-code of the solution I came up with when the website was young, and it worked well when there were only 1000 rows, but now that there are 100,000 rows I think it is eating up too much memory. int nextRowId(string query, int currentRowId) { array allRowIds = mysql_query(query); // Takes up a lot of memory! int currentIndex = (index of currentRowId in allRowIds); // Takes time! return allRowIds[currentIndex+1]; } While you are thinking about this problem, remember that the website can store more information about the current row than just its ID (for example, the position of the current row in the result set), and this information can be used as a hint to help determine the ID of the next row. Edit: Sorry for not mentioning this earlier, but this isn't just a static website: rows can often be added to the list, and rows can be re-ordered in the list. (Much rarer, rows can be removed from the list.) I think that I should worry about that kind of thing, but maybe you can convince me otherwise.

    I have a similar concept to the SO questions/tags scenario however am trying to decide the best way of implementation. Tables Questions, QuestionTags and Tags Questions QuestionTags Tags --------- ------------ ---- QID QID TID QName TID TName When adding/updating a question I have 2 textboxes. The important part is a single textbox that allows users to enter in multiple Tags separated by spaces. I am using Linq2Sql so the Questions model has an EntitySet of QuestionTags with then link to Tags. My question is regarding the adding/updating of Questions (part 1), and also how to best show QuestionTags for a Question (part 2). Part 1 Before performing an add/update, my service layer needs to deal with 3 scenarios before passing to their respective repositories. Insert Tags that do not already exist Insert/Update Question Insert QuestionTags - when updating need to remove existing QuestionTags Here is my code below however started to get into a bit of a muddle.     Ok I am having a cross language hiccup. In C# with it's great collections like List and I have: a Map class with properties of: List<byte[]> Images; List<Tile> Tiles; a Tile Class of: byte[] ImageData; int X; int Y; Now I want to add an image to the Map class and have the ImageData property of the Tile Classes to "reference" it. I have discovered I can't just assign it Images[0]. You can't have a reference to an object of a List. My fix was to create a Dictionary. Is this the best way or can I somehow have a "pointer" to a collection of objects?

    Hi s[0]*31^(n-1) + s[1]*31^(n-2) + ... + s[n-1]. Is the hash function of the java string, I assume the rest of languages is similar or close to this implementation. If we have hash-Table and a list of 50 elements. each element is 7 chars ABCDEF1, ABCDEF2, ABCDEF3..... ABCDEFn If each bucket of hashtable contains 5 strings (I think this function will make it one string per bucket, but let us assume it is 5). If we call col.Contains("ABCDEFn"); // will do 6 comparisons and discover the difference on the 7th. The hash-table will take around 70 operations (multiplication and additions) to get the hashcode and to compare with 5 strings in bucket. and BANG it found. For list it will take around 300 comparisons to find it. for the case that there is only 10 elements, the list will take around 70 operations but the Hashtable will take around 50 operations. and note that hashtable operations are more time consuming (it is multiplications). I conclude that HybirdDictionary in .Net probably is the best choice for that most cases that require Hashtable with unknown size, because it will let me use a list till the list becomes more than 10 elements. still need something like HashSet rather than a Dictionary of keys and values, I wonder why there is no HybirdSet!! So what do u think? Thanks

    Lets say I've got an object model, where I have many collections of the same type. For example something like class StockMarketData { List<SummaryData> WeeklySummary; List<SummaryData> MonthlySummary; } class SummaryData { DateTime DateTime {get; set;} double Value {get; set;} } Those lists will map onto database tables. If you actually use L2S to generate a model from the database you will get something like: class StockMarketData { List<WeeklySummaryData> WeeklySummary; List<MonthlySummaryData> MonthlySummary; } Even though WeeklySummaryData and MonthlySummaryData have the same shape. Is it possible for Linq to SQL to create tables from a database of summary data, but get each table to contain the same type (such as shown in the top example).

  • Implicit Type Conversions in Reflection

    So I've written a quick bit of code to help quickly convert between business objects and view models. Not to pimp my own blog, but you can find the details here if you're interested or need to know. One issue I've run in to is that I have a custom collection type, ProductCollection, and I need to turn that in to a string[] in on my model. Obviously, since there is no default implicit cast, I'm getting an exception in my contract converter. So, I thought I would write the next little bit of code and that should solve the problem: public static implicit operator string[](ProductCollection collection) { var list = new List<string>(); foreach (var product in collection) { if (product.Id == null) { list.Add(null); } else { list.Add(product.Id.ToString()); } } return list.ToArray(); } However, it still fails with the same cast exception. I'm wondering if it has something to do with being in reflection? If so, is there anything that I can do here?? I'm open to architectural solutions, too!

    I'm working on a simple XML phonebook app to learn JQuery, and I can't figure out how to do something like this: When the user enters the first name of a contact in a textbox I want to find the entire record of that person.     suppose i have a dll with 2 functions.name of dll="dll1" f1(int a, int b, int c); f2(int a); my program would take the funtion name ,the dll name and a "list" of parameters as input. how would i call the appropriate function with its appropriate parameters. i.e, if input is dll1 f1 list(5,8,9) this would require me to call f1 with 3 parameters if input was dll1 f2 list(8) it would require me to call f2 with one parameter how would i call the function without knowing the number of parameters in advance. further clarification: how do I write code that will call any function with all its arguments by building the argument list dynamically using some other source of information

    I have what seemed at first to be a trivial problem but turned out to become something I can't figure out how to easily solve. I need to be able to store lists of items in a string. Then those items in turn can be a list, or some other value that may contain my separator character. I have two different methods that unpack the two different cases but I realized I need to encode the contained value from any separator characters used with string.Split. To illustrate the problem: string[] nested = { "mary;john;carl", "dog;cat;fish", "plainValue" } string list = string.Join(";", nested); string[] unnested = list.Split(';'); // EEK! returns 7 items, expected 3! This would produce a list "mary;john;carl;dog;cat;fish;plainValue", a value I can't split to get the three original nested strings from. Indeed, instead of the three original strings, I'd get 7 strings on split and this approach thus doesn't work at all. What I want is to allow the values in my string to be encoded so I can unpack/split the contents just the way before I packed/join them. I assume I might need to go away from string.Split and string.Join and that is perfectly fine. I might just have overlooked some useful class or method. How can I allow any string values to be packed / unpacked into lists? I prefer neat, simple solutions over bulky if possible. For the curious mind, I am making extensions for PlayerPrefs in Unity3D, and I can only work with ints, floats and strings. Thus I chose strings to be my data carrier. This is why I am making this nested list of strings.

  • Process-to-port mapping with SNMP and/or wmi/wmic in java

    I'm trying to use SNMP to map outgoing ports on my host computer with the application running on the computer that is responsible for that communication. When running "netstat -ano" I get access to Protocol, Local Address (with port), Foreign Address (with port), State and PID. But I want to do this entirely without having to execute "cmd" from Java. By using SNMP OID: .1.3.6.1.2.1.25.4 (.iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt.mib-2.host.hrSWRun) I get access to PID (ex. 1704), Name (ex. cmd.exe), Path (ex. C:\Windows\system32) among others. There is an SNMP OID: .1.3.6.1.2.1.6.13 (.iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt.mib-2.tcp.tcpConnTable) that give you access to TCP connection state, local address, local port, remote address, remote port. But NO PID. So to sum up. My question again: Is there a way to "map" these tables together? Either directly in SNMP with other OID's or in conjunction with WMI / WMIC?

    Hi, How can GQL support ORDER BY when it does not support aggregation? The question is - if say the result of the query is more than 1000, does ORDER BY return fully ordered list or only the first 1000 items which is then ordered? To explain the question more: is conceptually MIN() same as query.orderby('asc').fetch(1)? If it is properly ordering the list, then how can it not provide COUNT(), since to properly order the list, GQL possibly has to parse through the whole list - in which case, COUNT() is not an issue at all? Or is item indexed and kept in some type of tree so that it does not need to parse it all the time?

  • ASP.NET SqlDataSource update and create FK reference

    The short version: I have a grid view bound to a data source which has a SelectCommand with a left join in it because the FK can be null. On Update I want to create a record in the FK table if the FK is null and then update the parent table with the new records ID. Is this possible to do with just SqlDataSources? The detailed version: I have two tables: Company and Address. The column Company.AddressId can be null. On my ascx page I am using a SqlDataSource to select a left join of company and address and a GridView to display the results. By having my UpdateCommand and DeleteCommand of the SqlDataSource execute two statements separated by a semi-colon I am able to use the GridView's Edit and Delete functionality to update both table simultaneously. The problem I have is when the Company.AddressId is null. What I need to have happen is have the data source create a record in the Address table and then update the Company table with the new Address.ID then proceed with the update as usual. I would like to do this with just data sources if possible for consistency/simplicity sake. Is it possible to have my data source do this, or perhaps add a second data source to the page to handle some of this? Once I have that working I can probably figure out how to make it work with the InsertCommand as well but if you are on a roll and have an answer for how to make that fly as well feel free to provide it.
