• How to deal with presence or not of xml namespaces using xslt.

  I have some XML/TEI documents, and i'm writing an XSLT 2.0 to extract their content. Almost all TEI documents has no namespace, but one has the default namespace (xmlns="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0"). So all documents has the same aspect, with unqulified tags like <TEI> or <teiHeader>, but if I try to extract the content, all works with "non-namespaced-documents", but nothing (of course) is extracted from the namespaced-document. So i used the attribute xpath-default-namespace="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" and now (of course) the only document working is the namespaced one. I can't edit documents at all, so what I'm asking is if there's a way to change dynamically the xpath-default-namespace in order to make work xpaths like //teiHeader both with namespaced and non-namespaced documents

• Custom webserver caching

  I'm working with a custom webserver on an embedded system and having some problems correctly setting my HTTP Headers for caching. Our webserver is generating all dynamic content as XML and we're using semi-static XSL files to display it with some dynamic JSON requests thrown in for good measure along with semi-static images. I say "semi-static" because the problems occur when we need to do a firmware update which might change the XSL and image files. Here's what needs to be done: cache the XSL and image files and do not cache the XML and JSON responses. I have full control over the HTTP response and am currently: Using ETags with the XSL and image files, using the modified time and size to generate the ETag Setting Cache-Control: no-cache on the XML and JSON responses As I said, everything works dandy until a firmware update when the XSL and image files are sometimes cached. I've seen it work fine with the latest versions of Firefox and Safari but have had some problems with IE. I know one solution to this problem would be simply rename the XSL and image files after each version (eg. logo-v1.1.png, logo-v1.2.png) and set the Expires header to a date in the future but this would be difficult with the XSL files and I'd like to avoid this. Note: There is a clock on the unit but requires the user to set it and might not be 100% reliable which is what might be causing my caching issues when using ETags. What's the best practice that I should employ? I'd like to avoid as many webserver requests as possible but invalidating old XSL and image files after a software update is the #1 priority.

I open excel 2003, go to tools-Add-ins, click on the automation button and the addin appears in the list. I add it and it shows up in the addins list. but, the functions themselves don't appear. If I type it in it doesn't work and if I look in the function wizard, my addin doesn't show up as a category and the functions are not in the list. I am using excel 2003 on windows 7 x86. I built the project with visual studio 2010. This addin worked fine on windows xp built with visual studio 2008.

• Existing LINQ extension method similar to Parallel.For?

  The linq extension methods for ienumerable are very handy ... but not that useful if all you want to do is apply some computation to each item in the enumeration without returning anything. So I was wondering if perhaps I was just missing the right method, or if it truly doesn't exist as I'd rather use a built-in version if it's available ... but I haven't found one :-) I could have sworn there was a .ForEach method somewhere, but I have yet to find it. • Android 2.3.3 - Messages: Wrong Status Information in the Conversation Overview

  On my HTC Desire Z with Android 2.3.3 I get from time to time the problem, that the status information ist wrong. That means status information says, that there is an unread, unsent or failed SMS, but this SMS is already deleted. Does anybody know, where I can reset this information? It must be stored anywhere in ContentResolver of content://mms-sms/conversations or content://sms/conversations on the thread-level, but I have no idea. Example: After I deleted a number of failed SMS in the non delivered SMS overview, the status of non delivered SMS was not reset in the Messages conversation overview though in each conversation there wasn't any undelivered SMS left.

• Raising C# events with an extension method - is it bad?

  We're all familiar with the horror that is C# event declaration. To ensure thread-safety, the standard is to write something like this: public event EventHandler SomethingHappened; protected virtual void OnSomethingHappened(EventArgs e) { var handler = SomethingHappened; if (handler != null) handler(this, e); } Recently in some other question on this board (which I can't find now), someone pointed out that extension methods could be used nicely in this scenario. • SQL Server Table Partitioning, what is happening behind the scenes?

  I'm working with table partitioning on extremely large fact table in a warehouse. I have executed the script a few different ways. With and without non clustered indexes. With indexes it appears to dramatically expand the log file while without the non clustered indexes it appears to not expand the log file as much but takes more time to run due to the rebuilding of the indexes. What I am looking for is any links or information as to what is happening behind the scene specifically to the log file when you split a table partition.

• Silverlight 5 App Crashing

  I have a silverlight 5 app that makes some WCF requests. When the silverlight app is hosted locally on an IIS 7.5 server it works fine, but when I run it from a remote IIS6 box there are issues. The app loads fine and presents the login UI. After trying to log in, a couple WCF service calls are made (successfully), but the response causes silverlight to stop responding and the browser eventually asks to kill the non-responsive silverlight app. I am mostly confused because it works fine in IIS 7.5 Note that I am accessing the same WCF services hosted on a remote box in both instances, and both times I am getting successful responses. It is only in IIS6 that the app becomes non-responsive.

  Hello, Let say I have a BitmapData with different pixels representing an object, and some black pixels around it that I want to remove. I would like to obtain a new BitmapData, with width and height of the object represented by non-black pixels. For example, let say I have a BitmapData 400x400px, but the object represented by non-black pixels occupies the rect: x=100, y=100, width=200, height=200. I want to get new BitmapData representing that rect, all black pixels should be removed. Any idea on how to do this please ?

• Why aren't my coordinates matching my JFrame size?

  I want to do some drawing in a JPanel but the enclosing JFrame size doesn't seem to match where I've asked the coordinates to be drawn. In my example code, the JFrame size is set to (700, 700) and the last point is drawn at (600, 600). I would expect this point to be drawn 100 pixels away from the right and bottom edges but it isn't (please see screenshot).   REPHRASED QUESTION: I am coming up with a list of possible image bit depth values that could be used as a predefined reference list in my application. I could think of 8,16,24 and 32 bit depths. The image formats considered are BMP, JPEG, PNG and GIF. I understand the bit depth decides the quality and thereby the storage requirements for the image. The application is used to store user uploaded images(non-medical, non-DICOM). Are there more bit depths other than the ones mentioned above that i should be including in my list? Are there any stats on the usage of the images with bit depths? Appreciate your response!

Any help towards understanding what's going on would be duly appreciated. This is an area1 where the theory and javadoc seem straightforward, and since there aren't many examples, conceptually left a big gap in me.

• Activator.CreateInstance(string) and Activator.CreateInstance<T>() difference

  No, this is not a question about generics. I have a Factory pattern with several classes with internal constructors (I don't want them being instantiated if not through the factory). My problem is that CreateInstance fails with a "No parameterless constructor defined for this object" error unless I pass "true" on the non-public parameter. Example // Fails Activator.CreateInstance(type); // Works Activator.CreateInstance(type, true); I wanted to make the factory generic to make it a little simpler, like this: public class GenericFactory<T> where T : MyAbstractType { public static T GetInstance() { return Activator.CreateInstance<T>(); } } However, I was unable to find how to pass that "true" parameter for it to accept non-public constructors (internal). Did I miss something or it isn't possible?

  Hi I am having a problem debugging an issue on a website. Everything works locally, the local and server databases are the same The strange thing about the error is that it points to my local dev machine in the error stack. • Declare module name of classes for logging

  I currently am adding some features to our logging-library. One of these is the possibility to declare a module-name for a class that automatically gets preprended to any log-messages writing from within that class. However, if no module-name is provided, nothing is prepended. Currently I am using a trait-class that has a static function that returns the name. template< class T > struct ModuleNameTrait { static std::string Value() { return ""; } }; template< > struct ModuleNameTrait< Foo > { static std::string Value() { return "Foo"; } }; This class can be defined using a helper-macro. The drawback is, that the module-name has to be declared outside of the class. I would like this to be possible within the class. Also, I want to be able to remove all logging-code using a preprocessor directive. I know that using SFINAE one can check if a template argument has a certain member, but since other people, that are not as friendly with templates as I am, will have to maintain the code, I am looking for a much simpler solution. If there is none, I will stick with the traits approach. Thanks in advance!

Should I add another argument to mention that first argument is CustomerId or SupplierId for example GetDummyData(int?, string). OR should I use enum as 2nd argument and mention that first argument is CustoemId or SupplierId. 2- Is this condition is correct or just checking 0 is sufficient - if (customerId != null && customerId 0) 3- Using Try/catch like this is correct? 4- Passing (int?)null is correct or any other better approach. Edit: I have found some other posts like this and because I have no knowledge of Generics that is why I am facing this problem. Am I right? • Is there any Java Decompiler that can correctly decompile calls to overloaded methods?

I tried Jad, JD-GUI and Fernflower, and all of them got at least one of the call wrong (i. e. the program printed "Wrong!" at least once) Is there really no java decompiler that can infer the right casts so that it will not call the wrong overload?

• A code using SharePoint classes doesn't run on systems not having SharePoint installed

  I have a window application which uses SP classes to create a site. I works fine on a system having Windows Server 2003 R2 with sharepoint installed. But it doesn't work on a system having XP installed and SharePoint not installed. The fact is that both of these systems are on a intranet. So I assumed that the NON-SP system would be able to run the code and create a site on the system having SP installed if all the required parameters (like serverLocation, domain, username, password) are provided. I did copied the DLLs to these NON-SP system and referenced them to build the project: Microsoft.SharePoint.dll microsoft.sharepoint.portal.dll Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.dll But this too didn't worked. What am I missing? Is my assumption wrong?

Pellentesque habitant morbi tristique senectus et netus et malesuada fames ac turpis egestas. Quisque bibendum vestibulum nisl vitae volutpat. I need to split it every 100 characters (full words only) until all the characters are used up. So we'd end up with: Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Nullam elit lacus, dignissim quis laoreet non, and cursus id eros. Etiam lacinia tortor vel purus eleifend accumsan. Pellentesque habitant morbi tristique and senectus et netus et malesuada fames ac turpis egestas. Quisque bibendum vestibulum nisl vitae volutpat. Any ideas on the best way to do that?
