Ajax request using mootools not working

Hi everyone, I try loading content into a div with this tutorial. Unfortunately, this simply loads the HTML file as a new page. How to improve performance of map that loads new overlay images

I have inherited a website to maintain that uses a html map overlaying a real map to link specific countries to specific pages. previously it loaded the default map image, then with some javascript it would change the image src to an image with that particular country in a different colour on mouseover and reset the image source back to the original image on mouse out to make maintenance (adding new countries) easier i made the initial map a background image by utilising some CSS for the div tag, and then created new images for each country which only had that countries hightlight so that the images remain fairly small. this works great but theres one issue which is particularly noticeable on slower internet connections when you hover over a country if you dont have the image file in your browser cache or downloaded it wont load the image unless you hover over another country and then back onto the first country - i guess this is due to the image having to manually be downloaded on first hover. My question: is it possible to force the load of these extra images AFTER the page and all the other assets have finished loading so that this behaviour is all but eliminated? the html code for the MAP is as follows: <div class="gtmap"><img id="Image-Maps_6200909211657061" src="<?php echo cdnhttpsCheck(); Using same onmouseover function for multiple objects

I'm creating a building game in JavaScript and PHP that involves a grid. Each square in the grid is a div, with an own onmouseover and onmousedown function: for(x=0; x < width; x++) { for(y=0; y < height; y++) { var div = document.createElement("div"); //... div.onmouseclick = function() {blockClick(x, y)} div.onmouseover = function() {blockMouseover(x, y)} game.appendChild(div); } } But, all of the squares seem to have the x and y of the last square that was added. I can sort of see why this is happening - it is making a pointer to x and y instead of cloning the variables - but how could I fix it? I even tried for(x=0; x < width; x++) { for(y=0; y < height; y++) { var div = document.createElement("div"); var myX = x; var myY = y; div.onmouseclick = function() {blockClick(myX, myY)} div.onmouseover = function() {blockMouseover(myX, myY)} game.appendChild(div); } } with the same result. I was using div.setAttribute("onmouseover", ...) which worked in Firefox, but not IE. Thanks!

pass other form elements to ajax suggestion box script

I paid somebody to build me a jQuery AJAX suggestion box script a while back. It works great. Now I'm trying to learn about it enough to modify it to do something different. Right now, the script that generates the suggestions just takes the query text and does the same check every time. Now, I want to be able to pass along additional info so different things are looked for with each instance of a search box. The HTML... simple, obvious. input class="suggest" name="q" type="text" autocomplete="off" / The jQuery looks like this: jQuery(document).ready(function() { $('.suggest').autocomplete( { source:'output.php', minLength:3, focus: function (event, ui) { $(event.target).val(ui.item.label); return false; } } ); [snip] } Instead of: source:'output.php', minLength:3, I'd like: source:'output.php?arg1=blah1&arg2=blah2', minLength:3, where arg1 and arg2 are passed along in the form... input class="suggest" name="q" type="text" autocomplete="off" / input type="hidden" name="arg1" value="blah1" input type="hidden" name="arg2" value="blah2" Does this make sense? Wait, I know! I know that this "syntax highlight in textarea"-question was raised like a million times on stackoverflow! But, please, listen. offtopic: I'm not a web-developer, and technically I'm not a programmer at all. I study mechatronics and deal mostly with control-engineering and digital-hardware. And I'm so pissed off that whenever I want to share some application (that would be helpful in my field) and embed it into the web, I need to know such a crazy amount of technologies, like html, css, javascript, flash, etc.. that takes time, which I could have been spending for the benefit of my own field. Right now I'm playing with hardware-description-languages and I'm writing some Python-libraries to convert one HDL into another. And I wanted to embed such feature on the web: http://xhdl2vhdl.appspot.com/ I wanted to implement some basic syntax highlighting (only keywords highlighting will be enough) so that the code could be readable. But the whole idea highlighting something in textarea is not trivial at all. The other difficulty is that the languages I work with are rare, and there are no out-of-box solutions for them. But when I try to write the buttonClick function outside the anonymus method, it does not work anymore. Am I doing some mistake while passing the Event as parameter? what is the correct way to do it without using anonymous methods?

I would like to interactively detect when an ActiveX component has been installed, and asynchronousl

Hello, I am working on a website, and I would like to refresh a portion of the page after an ActiveX component has been installed. I have a general idea of how to do this with polling, which I am working on getting going : function detectComponentThenSleep(){ try{ // Call what I want ActiveX for, if the method is available, or // ActiveXComponent.object == null --- test for existance document.getElementById("ActiveXComponent").someMethod(); } catch{ // Try again, if the method is not available setTimeout(detectComponentThenSleep, 100); } } However, what I would REALLY like to do is something like this: ActiveXObject.addListener("onInstall", myfunction); I don't actually have the source for the ActiveX component, but I have complete control of the page I am hosting it on. I would like to use JavaScript, if possible, to accomplish this. So, my question is 1.) will this actually work with the polling method? and 2.) Is there an interrupt/listener like way of doing this? I am sure I am missing something with connecting the dots here, I can already detect if the component is present, but I am having trouble doing this asynchronously. I would like to know how to put a "change image" layer like in facebook on a mouseover event

Hello: I have a photo gallery I would like that every time a user does mouseover the image, there is a button on the top of this image that appears. The user can click on it. But every time that the user mouse out of the photo it must disappear. It works like the "change photo" in Facebook, with the photo of your profile. The problem I am having is that when I try to get over the button that appears (in my code is a link), it disappear because javascript understands that the mouse is just out of the image, even if this button/link is over the image. The image that I use is positioned absolutely over the image. Hidden youtube player loses its methods

I'm controlling a embedded youtube chromeless player with javascript, and I want to hide it occasionally by setting display: none. However, when I show the player again, it loses its youtube methods. How do you get the viewport scale after pinch/zoom on an iPhone web app?

Does anyone know how to get the size in pixels or scale value of the viewport after a user has pinched or double tapped to zoom in/out on a page in JavaScript? I've tried using window.innerWidth but I've had mixed results. Sometimes it seems to accurately give the number of pixels the viewport is showing, however, if I zoom way in on a page and then do a large pinch to zoom back out, window.innerWidth will be around 600-700 even though it is only showing ~200px of the page. The page is only 400px wide and it didn't show the checkered "you've gone too far" background you see when you zoom out beyond the page size. If I do small pinches to zoom in and out, window.innerWidth appears to work just fine. Unfortunately I can't rely on a user only making small pinch gestures :) I've also tried to use the scale property on the gesture event object, but I've found that unreliable because you don't always know the initial scale when you reload the page or use back/forward buttons to navigate to it even when using the meta tag to specify it. Ultimately, I'm trying to make an app that is aware of when a user is trying to zoom out beyond the maximum zoom level so if there is another way to do this I'm interested in hearing about it :) Here's the code I'm using to get the innerWidth: document.body.addEventListener('gestureend', function (evt) { console.log(window.innerWidth); // inaccurate when doing large pinch gestures }, false); Thanks!

Im writting my first Node.js (plus Extra Framework and Socket.io) app and Im having some fun setting up the server side of a FB-like messenger (surprise!!!). So I have basically 2 questions: first, what would be the proper way to store users online? and secondly, how to find values matching with the values I already know (find the idSocket that has a given idUser). I would like a pure JS approach(or using some of the tools given by Node, Socket.io or Express), but if that's not possible then I can look for some JQuery.

How to use setTimeout / .delay() to wait for typing between characters

Hi all, I am creating a simple listbox filter that takes the user input and returns the matching results in a listbox via javascript/jquery (roughly 5000+ items in listbox). The problem is, I'm not sure how to do that, or if its even a good idea or not. Any suggestions/help is greatly appreciated.

I want to set a value for the same. I've developed a small control bar for a Flash viewer generated by a third-party software. It has a First, Prev, Next & Last button, and a Zoom command. While Zoom works fine in all browsers, the navigation buttons seem to fail at Internet Explorer 8. I use at least two functions. jQuery selector for option tag value attribute returns null

Hello, I am trying to change the selected option in a select dropdown box with jQuery. I have it set so that it finds the hash tag at the end of the URL and based on that hash tag it changes the selected option in the select box. Most of my code is functional, it successfully finds the hash tag and executes the if statement that corresponds with it. However, when it goes to execute the "then" section of the statement when it goes to the selector for the option (which uses an attribute selector based on the value attribute of the option tag) it returns null. If figured this out with firebug, in the console it says that the selector is null. Getting element position in IE versus other browsers

We all know IE6 is difficult. But there seems to be disparate behavior in positioning in later versions of IE as well, when compared with Firefox or other browsers. I have a simple pair of javascript functions which finds the position of an element, and then displays another element in relation to the first element. The idea is to get the second element, which is somewhat larger, to appear in front of the first element when the mouse hovers over it. It works fine, except on all versions of Internet Explorer, the position of the second element appears different than in Firefox. The code to get the position of an element is: function getPosition(e) { var left = 0; var top = 0; while (e.offsetParent) { left += e.offsetLeft; top += e.offsetTop; e = e.offsetParent; } left += e.offsetLeft; top += e.offsetTop; return {x:left, y:top}; } And the actual rollover display code is: var pos = getPosition(elem1); elem2.style.top = pos.y - 8; elem2.style.left = pos.x - 6; In Firefox, elem2 appears directly over elem1, as I want it to. But in IE7 or IE8 it appears way off. What is the reason this occurs, and is there a way to fix it?

How do I ensure that a regex does not match an empty string?

I'm using the Jison parser generator for Javascript and am having problems with my language specification. The program I'm writing will be a calculator that can handle feet, inches and sixteenths. I simply added the first line. The regex correctly matches feet, inch, sixteenths, such as 6'4" (six feet, 4 inches) or 4"5s (4 inches, 5 sixteenths) with any kind of whitespace between the numbers and indicators. The problem is that the regex also matches a null string. As a result, the lexical analysis always records a FIS at the start of the line and then the parsing fails. Here is my question: is there a way to modify this regex to guarantee that it will only match a non-zero length string?

Java Script in Rails 3.1 works only in certain parts. Any idea why?

This might seem a bit weird, but since I am new in RoR and cannot find any similar questions I thought you might know. The situation is that JavaScript does not work throughout my whole site. For instance. For the sake of checking, I place a link with an alert function in the footer. It did not work at the beginning, it felt like the JS was disabled(but it wasn't). But eventually it worked. Now it works in most the pages but it does not work in one that there is also an 'autocomplete' field. Of course, this autocomplete field does not work either. That could lead you to think that there is something wrong with the autocomplete code. However this same code is working in the sidebar. Any ideas why? Could it have anything to do with the fact that one day my assets folder appeared empty? After installing the gmaps4rails gem I realized that all my Js and CSS files were gone from my assests folder. Ok, it might have happened long before and I just realized at that point. I don't really know. Here in the root you can see that the 'Hola sip' click at the button works. here it works However, here same link does not trigger the alert function. here it doesn't
