• How can I simulate an anchor click via jquery?

  I have a problem with faking an anchor click via jQuery: Why does my thickbox appear the first time I click on the input button, but not the second or third time? Here is my code: <input onclick="$('#thickboxId').click();" type="button" value="Click me"> <a id="thickboxId" href="myScript.php" class="thickbox" title="">Link</a> It does always work when I click directly on the link, but not if I try to activate the thickbox via the input button. This is in FF. For Chrome it seems to work every time. Any hints?

• Does salesforce.com have a timezone field that is DST aware?

  I am mailing out reminders to potential customers and the time is getting converted to our servers timezone EST (I think it is currently using EDT though as appropriate). I need to store the timezone for the potential customer and translate the time into their current timezone. I can store the offset but I am worried about daylight savings time. I can always store a non-DST offset but that causes issues when the signup appointment is scheduled before DST but occurs after DST. Ideally I would like to store a timezone and have salesforce translate the datetime to that timezone accounting for DST if necessary. How can I do this?

  I am using Microsoft Date and Time Picker control(SP4) in my application.My application runs fine in xp and vista machines as date and time picker refers to mscomct2.ocx which is present in system32 for xp and vista,but for windows 7 i dont have this dll in my system .In windows we need admin rights to register that control. So is there any alternative/similar control available.......It would be helpful if you could let me know why thats not available in windows P.S : My Application is a .Net application and the reason why i have used Microsoft Date and Time Picker control(SP4) instead of .Net provided control is to display year 9999.

  Hi, I am trying to specify the colClasses options in the read.csv function in R. In my data, the first column "time" is basically a character vector while the rest of the columns are numeric. data<-read.csv("test.csv" , comment.char="" , colClasses=c(time="character","numeric") , strip.white=FALSE) In the above command, I would want R to read in the "time" column as "character" and the as numeric. Although, the "data" variable did have the correct result after the command completed, R returned the following warnings. I am wondering how I could fix these warnings? Warning messages: 1: In read.table(file = file, header = header, sep = sep, quote = quote, : not all columns named in 'colClasses' exist 2: In tmp[i[i > 0L]] <- colClasses : number of items to replace is not a multiple of replacement length Thank in advance Derek

  Consider an ASP.NET MVC application using the Salt parameter in the [ValidateAntiForgeryToken] directive. The scenario is such that the app will be used by many customers. It's not terribly desirable to have the Salt known at compile time. The current strategy is to locate the Salt value in the web.config. [ValidateAntiForgeryToken(Salt = Config.AppSalt)] //Config.AppSalt is a static property that reads the web.config. This leads to a compile-time exception suggesting that the Salt must be a const at compile time.   I'm trying to add a cuepoint to a video using OSMF. I built an OSMF video player, and I'd like to use this instead of the FLVPlayback component, which seems like the only way to add an actionscript cuepoint? Anyhow, I created a cuepoint by writing this: var cuePoint:CuePoint = new CuePoint(CuePointType.ACTIONSCRIPT, 1, "good point", null); videoElement.addEventListener(MediaElementEvent.METADATA_ADD, onMetadataAdd); trace(cuePoint.time); The cuepoint time traced out to "1" (successful). From time to time I need to show dialog pop-up window to get a user response back (e.g. "Cancel", "OK" and other kinds of asynchronous user feedback) while "locking" the background for interactivity. I need some management for my pop-ups: all pop-up notifications should be stacked up, so that if two (or more) pop-up messages are initiated at the same time I show them one by one. • How can I do a partial update (i.e., get isolated changesets) from subversion with subclipse?

  If a file is committed several times with various changes, how can I fetch one change at a time, i.e., one changeset at a time? I use eclipse, subversion, and subclipse, and I can't change the former two for the time being (or the MS platform..). In my list/ overview a file seems to be listed only in the latest relevant changeset even if all changesets are listed. So an earlier changeset doesn't necessarily show the full set of files in the original commit, nor the original diff for a file in a commit. Update: I'm thinking about using changesets for simplified peer review, so I'd like the partial update represented for all the files commited in one changeset. It's easy to get diffs and specific revisions for specific files in eclipse, but I'd like to step through all the changes in one specific commit/ changeset in a practical manner.

• Rails reserved words and convention

  After having spent a lot of time researching Rails reserved words and implementing, I still have a few questions regarding use. In my example here, I'll consider the reserved word 'time'. Let's say I want to create a class 'Timepiece'. Is it not recommended to use 'timepiece' because the name begins with 'time'? Would it be recommended to use 'time_piece' or to avoid inserting the reserved word at all? My question here is also about use of the exact reserved word within the class like that. Thank you.

• Html5 Audio plays only once in my Javascript code.

  I have a dashboard web-app that I want to play an alert sound if its having problems connecting. The site's ajax code will poll for data and throttle down its refresh rate if it can't connect. Once the server comes back up, the site will continue working. In the mean time I would like a sound to play each time it can't connect (so I know to check the server). Here is that code. This code works. var error_audio = new Audio("audio/"+settings.refresh.error_audio); error_audio.load(); //this gets called when there is a connection error. function onConnectionError() { error_audio.play(); } However the 2nd time through the function the audio doesn't play. Digging around in Chrome's debugger the 'played' attribute in the audio element gets set to true. Setting it to false has no results. Any ideas?

  Hi, I noticed that my app is very slow sometimes, so I've done some tests. It's a very simple web app. One servlet gets some parameters than stores them. Everything's fine except one thing. It takes too long to get a parameter for the first time. It doesn't matter which parameter I try to get, but for the first time it is very slow. The strange thing is this doesn't happen always. Sometimes getting a parameter for the first time is not slow. My code looks like this request.getParameter("paramName"); request.getParameter("paramName2"); request.getParameter("paramName3"); Getting "paramName" is slow. Getting the others is very fast. By slow I mean : 200-800 millisec By very fast I mean: ~0 millisec (in the code snippet, I didn't write the performance test, but I'm using System.currentTimeMillis())

The data is stored in a table that looks like this: CREATE table sales_data ( sales_time timestamp , sales_amt double ) I need to write parameterized queries that will allow me to do the following: Return the change in sales_amt between times t2 and t1, where t2 and t1 are separated by a time interval (integer) of N. This query will allow for querying for weekly changes in sales (for example). Return the change in change of sales_amt between times t2 and t1, and time t3 and t4. Thats is to calculate the value (val(t2)-val(t1)) - (val(t4)-val(t3)). where t2 and t1 are separated by the same time interval (interval N) as the interval between t4 and t3. This query will allow for querying for changes in weekly changes in sales (for example).

• As a consultant should I charge my clients for developing specs?

  I'm trying to transition into some programming consulting work. A friend of my former employer is interested in having me "develop a spec," which I take to mean come up with some technology requirements and time estimates (e.g. milestones). Do developers normally charge for this? I'm imagining it's basically the same kind of workload that creating a bid for a project would take. On one hand, consultants don't get paid for the time they put into the legwork of a bid. On the other hand, this is probably go to be more than a couple hours of work, and my time is valuable. Any advice? Any sites besides SO I could go to get advice with this kind of stuff? (Sorry if this isn't programming-related enough for StackOverflow! I don't know where else to get advice!)

  My python script uses subprocess to call a linux utility that is very noisy. I want to store all of the output to a log file, but only show some of it to the user.   Hello, I was wondering, when is the right time or the correct project size to start using project management applications ( like Redmine or Trac ). I have a serious project, for now it's only me developing, but I use redmine to set my project versions, issues, and estimations. I think it's a good idea, because you never know when somebody else is going to join the team, and also allows me to organize myself effectively. I ask this question because I was Teaching Assistant at my university for one year in a row for a course, and I got questions about this very very often. While I'm a believer of the KISS principle, I think that learning to use this tools early is a win-win most of the time. I really believe that we can avoid this question to become argumentative, and that there's somewhat of a consensus about this issue, which I consider quite important in todays software development world. So, when is the right time ? what is the correct project/team size ?

I have given link on my master page for various pages in the application; where I have specified only relative path of those pages. When I run this project and follow any link it works well for only first time and for second time when I click any link it .net run time environment unable to find the absolute address of that page. • How do I save user specific data in an asp.net site?

  I just set up user profiles using asp.net 3.5 using wvd. For each user I would like to store data that they will be updating every day. For example, every time they go for a run they will update time and distance. I intend to allow them to also look up their history of distance and time from any past date. My question is, what does the database schema usually look like for such a set up? Currently asp.net set up a db for me when I made user profiles. Do I just add an extra table for every user? Should there be one big table with all users data? How do I relate a user I'd to their specific data? Etc.... I have never done this before so any ideas on how this is usually done would be very helpful. Thank you.

• How to properly close a process with NppExec?

  I'm not sure what's going on here, but the following code continues running even after I end the process in the NppExec console with Ctrl-C (during the execution of the while loop). I restarted my computer to stop the Ctrl key sends.   Hello, I have a PHP script that has a runtime of 34 seconds. But it dies after 30 seconds. I guess my webhost a time limit of 30 seconds. I am thinking of splitting the script into two parts say PHP-1 and PHP-2. Can I call PHP-2 from PHP-1 and kill PHP-1? Both scripts have to run in sequence, so calling both of them using cron is not possible. [ My host provides cron with interval 5 mins and does not allow to change the start time] -Will this circumvent the time limit set by host?

• Is there a SortedList<T> class in .net ? (not SortedList<Key,Value> which is actually a kind of Sort

  I need to sort some objects according to their contents (in fact according to one of their properties, which is NOT the key and may be duplicated between different objects) .net provides two classes (SortedDictionnary and SortedList), and both are some kind of Dictionaries. The only difference (AFAIK) is that SortedDictionnary uses a binary tree to maintain its state whereas SortedList does not and is accessible via an index. I could achieve what I want using a List, and then using its Sort() method with a custom implementation of IComparer, but it wouldn't be time-efficient as I would sort the whole List each time I insert a new object, whereas a good SortedList would just insert the item at the right position. What I need is a SortedList class with a RefreshPosition(int index) to move only the changed (or inserted) object rather than resorting the whole list each time an object inside changes. Am I missing something obvious ?

• Code generating SOAP Web Service Proxy objects yourself - C#/.NET 3.5/T4

  Is there a framework or code already available that will give me more control over the code that gets generated based off my web references? I'm working at a new company. And the Web Services Proxies are all self contained in their own assembly. I would really rather generate this whole project. Every time they change something on the Services-side (Java) the WSDL references have to be dropped and re-added. (I can't figure out what those guys are doing on their end that messes with the WSDL bad enough that this needs to be done so much) Their are 10 of these references. I'd rather codegen the whole thing at compile time. Every time. What are my options?
