  • Detailstext in TableView from Coredata Iphone

    Hey, that is my first question here at stackoverflow. Let me try to be specific as I can. The project is as follows: I am trying to parse an xml file in an iphone app, which works already. I am saving the parsed data into the CoreData of the Iphone. So far so good: I have two elements of the xml file which I want to show in the tableview as the text and the detailtext. Now the strange behaviour occurs: If I take the data of the Core Data and trying to visualize them in the tableview, then both elements are displayed in seperate cells and not as detailtext of the element. If I am just taking a constant string for the detailtext, then it works, but if I am trying to take for every cell a specific element from the Core Data then it is shown seperately in the tableview. I googled a lot, reading here and there. I dont know which code I should show because I dont have a clue where exactly the mistake could be. Maybe someone can answer that immediately because it is a stupid mistake somewhere, which is common. Thanks for your help.

  • Large strings: Text files or SQL DB?

    I am coding a forum system using PHP. I am currently storing a threads ID, title, author, views and other attributes in an SQL database and then storing the thread body (the HTML and BBcode) in text files inside a folder named after the thread ID. In practise it's really simple to grab the database values then just grab the thread body from the text file, but I was wondering if this is the 'proper way'? I have personally no problems doing this but if it turns out it is massively inefficient and I should instead store both the thread body HTML and BBcode in the database instead then I will change. However, to me it seems wrong to store such a (very possibly) huge string of multi-line text along with lots of different characters in a database - I was taught that databases are more for short field 'values' rather than website content. I would just like a definitive answer to this because it's been bugging me for ages as to wherever I’ve been doing it properly. Does anyone know how popular forum systems store threads?

  • XSL(like) declarative language as MVC view over strongtyped model?

    As a huge XSL fan, I am very happy to use xsl as the view in our proprietary MVC framework on ASP.NET. Objects in the model are serialized under the hood using .NET's xml serializer, and we use quite atomic xsl templates to declare how each object or property should transform. For example: <xsl:template match="/Article"> <html> <body> <div class="article"> <xsl:apply-templates /> </div> </body> </html> </xsl:template> <xsl:template match="Article/Title"> <h1> <xsl:apply-templates /> </h1> </xsl:template> <xsl:template match="@*|text()"> <xsl:copy /> </xsl:template> This mechanism allows us to quickly override default matching templates, like having a template matching on the last item in a list, or the selected one, etc. Also, xsl extension objects in .NET allow us just the bit of extra grip that we need. Common shared templates can be split up and included. However Even though I can ignore the verbosity downside of xsl (because Visual Studio schema intellisense + snippets really is slick, praise to the VS-team), the downside of not having intellisense over strongtyped objects in the model is really something that's bugging me. I've seen ASP.NET MVC + user controls in action and really starting to love it, but I wonder; Is there a way of getting some sort of intellisense over XML that we're iterating over, or do you know of a language that offers the freedom and declarativeness of XSL but has the strongtype/intellisense benefits of say webforms/usercontrols/asp.net.mvc-view? (I probably know the answer: "no", and I'll find myself using Phil Haack's utterly cool mvc shizzle soon...)

    Hi I'm trying to understand how to best implement a polymorphic one-to-many in hibernate. Eg: @MappedSuperclass public class BaseEntity { Integer id; // etc... } @Entity public class Author extends BaseEntity {} @Entity public class Post extends BaseEntity {} @Entity public class Comment extends BaseEntity {} And now, I'd like to also persist audit information, with the following class: @Entity public class AuditEvent { @ManyToOne // ? BaseEntity entity; } What is the appropriate mapping for auditEvent.entity? Also, how will Hibernate actually persist this? Would a series of join tables be generated (AuditEvent_Author , AuditEvent_Post, AuditEvent_Comment), or is there a better way? Note, I'd rather not have my other entity classes expose the other side of the join (eg., List<AuditEvent> events on BaseEntity) - but if that's the cleanest way to implement, then it will suffice.

My question is how does git know which of two consequitive index entries to create the Tree object from? When I had set the view to have a TextView with the number set as a string , the number displayed, but I could not figure out how to update the text with a numerical field. That may be my real problem. I have gone through many examples generally referenced from the dev. site (UI, Common Tasks, various samples), and I am still not seeing the connection here... Again, this is simply a try at getting variables to respond to buttons and update on the view. So, a few Q's for anyone that can help; 1) Is there any easier way of doing this (ie. send numerical value to View) ? 2) Why isn't my TextSwitcher displaying the number? 3) Should I be using a TextSwitcher here? 4) Any examples of this you can point me to?

    I am trying to use DocUtils and reStructuredText to comment SQL code. I can get this to work when I include the markup inside multi-line comments. I then use --Some text:: to introduce each block of code. I cannot get internal hyperlinks to work. I would like to write -- .. Step1_: but the parser ignores this because of the leading comment. Using a multi-line style also fails. Is there a way to get this to work?     Hi, my xml document looks somewhat like that (Values are both xsl:hexBinary): <Offsets> <Offset> <Name>ErrorOffset</Name> <Value>DD</Value> </Offset> <Offset> <Name>OtherOffset</Name> <Value>FF</Value> </Offset> </Offsets> <Value> <Name>Error1</Name> <Code>01</Code> </Value> <Value> <Name>Error2</Name> <Code>02</Code> <Offset>ErrorOffset</Offset> </Value> now i want to transform this to a new xml file: <Value> <Name>Error1</Name> <Code>01</Code> </Value> <Value> <Name>Error2</Name> <Code>DF</Code> </Value> All that should happen is adding <Offset> to the basic <Value>. But plain + returns NaN and sum() expects only one parameter. XSLT and XPATH are quite nice, but it goes on my nerves that easy operations like adding two hex values just dont work as easy as it should.

But any time I try to run this the application hangs up unexpected in my android emulator. Am I missing something?

Which is strange since I have written "#000000" in all color fields. But if I remove the setTextColor code, gets the textView a light grey color, and when I press it, it becomes black. But that aren't the colors that I want. So, can anyone help me with this problem? Just to clarify: I want to be able to specify the colors for the text when it's normal, pressed and focused.

    I want to disable inlining for a particular function. What the compiler does for everything else should be as specified in the project properties. I found a page on a forum which suggested the following: #pragma auto_inline(off) void func() { } #pragma auto_inline() The author suggested that calling auto_inline() with no arguments will set the compiler to revert to doing whatever the default action was before the call to auto_inline(off). Can anyone confirm that this works for visual studio 2008? I ask because the VS2008 documentation makes no mention at all of what happens if you call this function with no arguments.

So for along time My Aproach to interacting with databases in my AspNet projects has been this : 1) Create my stored procedures 2) Drag an SQLDatasource control on my aspx page 3) Bind a DataList Control to my SQLDatasource 4) Insert, Update & Delete by using my Datalist or programmatically using built in SQLDatasource methods e.g MySqlDataSource.InsertParameters["author"].DefaultValue = TextBox1.Text; MySqlDataSource.Insert(); Recently however I got a relatively easy web project. So I decided to employ a 3-tier Model...But I got exhausted halfway and just didnt seem worth it ! It seemed like I was working too HARD for a project that could have been easily accomplished by a couple of SqlDataSource Controls. So Why Is the N-Tier Model better than my Approach? Has it anything to do with performance? What are the advantages of the ObjectDataSource control over the SqlDataSource Control?

I have the Agile Development with Rails book and I see there's some testing-related information there. However, it seems like the author takes you through the steps of building the app, then adds testing afterward. This isn't really Test Driven Development. Ideally, I'd like a book on this, but a collection of other tutorials or articles would be great if such a book doesn't exist.   • Actionscript flex sockets and telnet

    I am trying to make a flex application where it gets data from a telnet connection and I am running into a weird problem. To give a brief introduction, i want to read data from a process that exposes it through a socket. So if in the shell i type telnet localhost 8651i receive the xml and then the connection is closed (I get the following Connection closed by foreign host.) Anyway i found a simple tutorial online for flex that essentially is a telnet client and one would expect it to work but everything follows Murphy's laws and nothing ever works! Now i have messages being printed in every event handler and all places that i can think off. When i connect to the socket nothing happens, no event handler is triggered even the connect or close handler and if i do the following the socket.connected returns false! I get no errors, try catch raises no exception. I am at a loss as to whats going wrong? socket.connect(serverURL, portNumber); msg(socket.connected.toString()); Is there something about telnet that i do not know and its causing this to not work. Whats more interesting is why none of the events get fired. Another interesting thing is that i have some python code that does the same thing and its able to get the xml back! The following is the python code that works! def getStats(host, port): sock = socket.socket() sock.connect((host, port)) res = sock.recv(1024*1024*1024, socket.MSG_WAITALL) sock.close() return statFunc(res) So i ask you whats going wrong!!!!!! Is there some inherent problem with how flex handles sockets?
