  • OT: US Banks: Bank Routing Number and BIC/SWIFT

    I know it is a bit offtopic, but I've been having a hard time finding more information to this question, and since this site is visited by a lot of people from the United States, you guys might know/find the answer more easily. Banks in europe each have a SWIFT Number, while US Banks use Routing Numbers. This leads to following questions: Does each bank in the US also carry a BIC number? (SWIFT) Is there a 1-1 relationship between BIC and SWIFT? Is there a list of these numbers somewhere? (background information: we're adding international payments to our bookkeeping application. Users can add international suppliers, but my boss prefered not to change the current supplier table but to have the ROUTING NUMBER in another table, with as PK the BIC. I'm wondering if BIC is a valid choice, or if it should just be BANK ACCOUNT NUMBER.)

    I would like to get a list of Active Directory users along with the security groups they are members of using SQL Server 2005 linked servers. I have the query working to retrieve records but I'm not sure how to access the memberOf attribute (it is a multi-value LDAP attribute). I have this temporary to store the information: DROP TABLE #ADUSERGROUPS CREATE TABLE #ADUSERGROUPS ( sAMAccountName varchar(30), UserGroup varchar(50) ) Each group/user association should be one row. This is my SELECT statement: SELECT sAMAccountName,memberOf FROM OpenQuery(ADSI, '<LDAP://hqdc04/DC=nt,DC=avs>; (&(objectClass=User)(sAMAccountName=9695)(sn=*)(mail=*)(userAccountControl=512)); sAMAccountName,memberOf;subtree') I get this error msg: OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'ADSDSOObject' IRowset::GetData returned 0x40eda: Data status returned from the provider: [COLUMN_NAME=memberOf STATUS=DBSTATUS_E_CANTCONVERTVALUE], [COLUMN_NAME=sAMAccountName STATUS=DBSTATUS_S_OK]].     Using VS 2010, with ASP.NET, and .NET 3.0, and C#... When I use a System.Web.UI.WebControls.SqlDataSource and call its Insert() method to insert a new row, and that table has an identity column, I'd like my method to return the value of that column. For example, in my SQL 2005 table, I've got: Customer.Id Customer.FirstName Customer.LastName Where Customer.Id is an identity colum. When I call my method InsertNewCustomerRecord( "John", "Smith" ), I'd like to be able to return the Customer.Id that gets automatically generated in the database.     Hi All, I have my csv file in my public folder, and i'm trying to load it from a migration, but I get a file not found error using this script : ActiveRecord::Base.connection.execute( "load data local infile '#{RAILS_ROOT}/public/muds_variables.csv' into table muds_variables " + "fields terminated by ',' " + "lines terminated by '\n' " + "(variable_name, definition)") I've checked and re-checked the file path, and that's definitely where it lives, I've also tried it just using the file name without any of the path, and a few other combos, but I can't make it work :(. can anyone help me out with this? here's the error : Mysql::Error: File '/home/chris/rails_projects/muds/public/muds_variables.csv' not found (Errcode: 2): load data local infile '/home/chris/rails_projects/muds/public/muds_variables.csv' into table muds_variables fields terminated by ',' lines terminated by ' ' (variable_name, definition) -C

  • Correct permutation cycle for Verhoeff algorithm

    Hello, I'm implementing the Verhoeff algorithm for a check digit scheme, but there seems to be some disagreement in web sources as to which permutation cycle should form the basis of the permutation table. Wikipedia uses: (36)(01589427) while apparently, Numerical Recipies uses a different cycle and this book uses: (0)(14)(23)(56789), quoted from a 1990 article by Winters. It also notes that Verhoeff used the one Wikipedia quotes. Now, my number theory is a little rusty, but the Wikipedia cycle clearly will repeat after the 8th power, while the book one will take 10, despite it saying that s^8=s. Table 2.14(b) has other errors in the 2-cycles, so this is dubious anyway. Unfortunately, I don't have copies of the original articles (and am too tight to pay/disgusted that 40-year old knowledge is still being held to ransom by publishers), nor a copy of Numerical Recipes to check (and am loath to install their paranoia-induced copy protection plug-in to view online). So does any one know which is correct? Are they both correct?

    I'm building a basic function, which builds out Mysql WHERE clauses based on how many are in the array. $array = array('id' => '3', 'name' => 'roger'); $sql = "SELECT * FROM table WHERE "; foreach ($array as $k => $v) { $sql .= $k . ' = ' . $v . ' AND '; } which will output SELECT * FROM table WHERE id = 3 AND name = roger AND However obviously I don't want that last AND, how do I go about removing it from the string? Thanks

    I'm using SQL Server 2005, VB.NET 2005. I want to be able to import a very large excel file into a SQL table called "XYZ" I've done this by doing the following: 1. Save the excel file as csv.(Using SaveAs XLCSV option) 2. Build a datatable "ABC" From CSV.(using ODBC Connection and Select * from '*'.csv command) 3. copy the datatable"ABC" into database table "xyz" (using sqlBulkCopy.WriteToServer()) It works fine without any error but when i checked my database i found that data type for some columns has been changed and hence it didn't copy some of the records.Any help would be appreciated

  • Entitiy Framework: "Update Database from Model" instead of "Generate Database from Model"

    Hey everyone, I have created a Entity Framework 4 model with Visual Studio 2010 and generated a database from it. Now I found myself adding new properties (with default values), changing documentation of columns, changing names of columns, changing types of columns several times. All tasks that do not require much "extra work" in order not to be possible to be achieved automatically (in my humble opinion). Everytime I did "Generate Database from Model" and lost of course the table data. Is there a way just to update the database's architecture so to say - leaving the table data untouched? Maybe with some user interaction especially when changing types etc.? Or would this functionality be simply too difficult to be realized to work in a reliable way? Thanks in advance! Cheers, David

    In Real World Haskell, there is a section titled "Life without arrays or hash tables" where the authors suggest that list and trees are preferred in functional programming, whereas an array or a hash table might be used instead in an imperative program. This makes sense, since it's much easier to reuse part of an (immutable) list or tree when creating a new one than to do so with an array. So my questions are: Are there really significantly different usage patterns for data structures between functional and imperative programming? If so, is this a problem? What if you really do need a hash table for some application? Do you simply swallow the extra expense incurred for modifications?

  • 2 large databases - worth merging into 1?

    I have 2 large databases that were sharded before. I now have removed the sharding and have created a new database with all of the data except for the tables that were originally sharded. Is it worth importing this data into the new database, or keeping them as seperate entities that I can just scan through? We are talking around 60million records in each sharded table, of which there are 2 tables. Also, whilst I have an empty table, should I be adding indexes which weren't thought of when the database was originally constructed and now too large to add them?

  • Column locking in innodb?

    I know this sounds weird, but apparently one of my columns is locked. select * from table where type_id = 1 and updated_at < '2010-03-14' limit 1; select * from table where type_id = 3 and updated_at < '2010-03-14' limit 10; the first one would not finish running even in a few hours, while the second one completes smoothly. the only difference is the type_id between the 2 queries. a bit of background, the first statement screwed up before which i had to kill manually.     I have 4 tables that need to scroll, they are set up as follows: Table1(static) Table2(Horizontal Scrolling) Table3(Vertical Scrolling) Table4(Horizontal and Vertical Scrolling) Table1 Table2 Table3 Table4 The tricky part of this is that Table 3 and 4 need to keep in sync as this is a listing of data broken out into two tables.     Is there a way to tell a JTable's row filter that it should update itself to display the filtered data? I'm currently using the fireTableDataChanged method in the AbstractTableModel but the underlying data for the table isn't actually changing, so this seems like it might be wasteful. The way my filter works is to check if data in the table is in some other list and only display it if it is in that list. So that other list changed and I need to tell the filter to refresh itself. Is fireTableDataChanged the correct way to do this? thanks, Jeff

  • Infopath - changing sql servers

    I have an InfoPath form which has sort of a master-detail pattern, with two tables in the underlying main datasource. I am trying to migrate this to a new SQL Server - same database, just moved from a SQL2005 machine to a SQL2008 machine. If I change the servername, it also wants me to change the database and tables. If I select the same database and master table, the bindings are maintains for the master table. But there doesn't appear to be a way to select multiple tables when you change the datasource, so you lose the detail bindings. Am I missing something - I'm pretty new to InfoPath.

    I'm trying to create a relationship between "tables" with Appengine/Python. Imagine I have a "table" for items, and a table for colors. I save the color of an item by saving the color key as an atribute of the item. That's working well, but this particular piece of code is not working: <select id="colorKey" name="colorKey"> {% for color in colors %} <option value="{{ color.key }}"{% if color.key = item.colorKey %} selected="selected"{% endif %}> {{ color.name }} - {{ item.colorKey }} - {{ color.key }} </option> {% endfor %} </select> Since the {{ item.colorKey }} and {{ color.key }} variables are actually the same chain of characters, I only can think in a problem with the types. {{ item.colorKey }} is a string for sure. But maybe {{ color.key }} is not?

    I have a table where we record per user values like money_spent, money_spent_on_candy and the date. So the columns in this table (let's call it MoneyTable) would be: UserId Money_Spent Money_Spent_On_Candy Date My goal is to SUM the total amount of money_spent -- but only for those users where they have spent more than 10% of their total money spent for the date range on candy. What would that query be? I know how to select the Users that have this -- and then I can output the data and sum that by hand but I would like to do this in one single query. Here would be the query to pull the sum of Spend per user for only the users that have spent 10% of their money on candy. SELECT UserId, SUM(Money_Spent), SUM(Money_Spent_On_Candy) / SUM(Money_Spent) AS PercentCandySpend FROM MoneyTable WHERE DATE >= '2010-01-01' HAVING PercentCandySpend > 0.1;

  • SqlServer2008 - Can I Alter a Scalar Function while it is referenced in many places

    We have a scalar function that returns a DateTime. It performs a couple of quick table selects to get its return value. This function is already in use throughout the database - in default constraints, stored procs, etc. I would like to change the implementation of the function (to remove the table hits and make it more efficient) but apparently I can't do that while it is referenced by other objects in the database. Will I actually need to update every object in the database that references it to remove the reference, update the function and then update all those objects to restore the reference to the function?   • Master / Detail datagridview with relation from type string in C#

    Hello, I want to show a master / detail relationship using two datagridviews and DataRelation in C#. The relation between the master and the detail table is an ID from type string (and there is no chance to change the ID to type integer). It seems like the DataGridView is not able to update the detail view when changing the row in the master table. Does anybody know if it is possible to achieve a master / detail view using a string ID and if yes, how? Or do I have to use an external DataGrid from another company? Thanks for any help Daniel
