  • MySQL top count({column}) with a limit

    - by Josh K
I have a table with an ip address column. I would like to find the top five addresses which are listed. Right now I'm planning it out the following: Select all distinct ip addresses Loop through them all saying count(id) where IP='{ip}' and storing the count List the top five counts. Downsides include what if I have 500 ip addresses. That's 500 queries I have to run to figure out what are the top five. I'd like to build a query like so select ip from table where 1 order by count({distinct ip}) asc limit 5

  • Need a mysql query to extract data from mm-forms

    - by Kirill
http://cl.ly/201a11b430bf60ef9e97 is what the rows look like, after I clean them up a bit: SELECT fk_form_joiner_id,form_key,value FROM wp_contactform_submit_data WHERE form_key!='page_post_id' AND form_key!='captcha-802' AND form_key!='page_post_title' AND form_key!='user_ID' What I need is a query where it would transform this into a structure like: id | First-name | Surname-name | your-email | dob | address-1 | address-2 | county | postcode | phone ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 88 | jack | Somethin | [email protected] | dob | (etc) I think I know a way to do this through php, but I think there must be a way to do it as a mysql query. Ultimately, I need to export this (into a csv), but if you could give me a query that would output this into a mysql table (or at least a workable select query, that I could then turn into an insert query loop, to create a table), I'd do it form there. Thank you.

  • varchar comparison in SQL Server

    - by Ram
I am looking for some SQL varchar comparison function like C# string.compare (we can ignore case for now, should return zero when the character expression are same and a non zero expression when they are different) Basically I have some alphanumeric column in one table which needs to be verified in another table. I cannot do select A.col1 - B.col1 from (query) as "-" operator cannot be applied on character expressions I cannot cast my expression as int (and then do a difference/subtraction) as it fails select cast ('ASXT000R' as int) Conversion failed when converting varchar 'ASXT000R' to int Soundex would not do it as soundex is same for 2 similar strings Difference would not do it as select difference('abc','ABC') = 4 (as per msdn, difference is the difference in the soundex of 2 character expressions and difference =4 implies least different) Is there any other way of doing it ?

  • Help need to with MySQL query to join data spanning multiple tables and use data as column names

    - by gurun8
I need a little help putting together a SQL query that will give me the following resultsets: and The data model looks like this: The tricky part for me is that the columns to the right of the "Product" in the resultset aren't really columns in the database but rather key/value pairs spanned across the data model. Table data is as follows: My apologies in advance for the image heavy question and the image quality. This just seemed like the easiest way to convey the information. It'll probably take someone less time to write the query statement to achieve the results than it did for me to assemble this question. By the way, the "product_option" table image is truncated but it illustrated the general idea of the data structure. The MySQL server version is 5.1.45.

  • Connect sortable lists together and update SQL using jQuery UI

    - by rebellion
I'm using jQuery UI's sortable lists to sort items in a todo list, and the reordering of the lists works like a charm. I have several UL lists for each todo category, i.e. Design, Development, etc. I want to be able to move an item from one category to another, and jQuery UI's sortable lists plugin allows me to do this with the connectWith option parameter. But I can't seem to find how to update the database as well. The todo database table has a field for a reference to the category which is laying in it's own table. This is the current code: $('.sortable').sortable({ axis: 'y', opacity: .5, cancel: '.no-tasks', connectWith: '.sortable', update: function(){ $.ajax({ type: 'POST', url: basepath + 'task/sort_list', data: $(this).sortable('serialize') }); } }); Do I need to add another value to the AJAX's data parameter, or do the sortable plugin this for me in the serialize function?

  • Linq to sql Error "Data at the root level is invalid " for nullable xml column

    - by Mukesh
    I have Created a table like CREATE TABLE [dbo].[tab1]( [Id] [int] NOT NULL, [Name] [varchar](100) NOT NULL, [Meta] [xml] NULL, CONSTRAINT [PK_tab1] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED ( [Id] ASC )WITH (PAD_INDEX = OFF, STATISTICS_NORECOMPUTE = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, ALLOW_ROW_LOCKS = ON, ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS = ON) ON [PRIMARY] ) ON [PRIMARY] TEXTIMAGE_ON [PRIMARY] When I am doing linq to sql query to fetch a data it throw an error "data at the root level is invalid linq". In further investigation I come to know that the meta column is null in that case. In real it is nullable Do I have to remove the nullable and set some blank root node as default or there is some another way to get rid of the error. My linq Query which throws error var obj1= (from obj in dbContext.tab1s where obj.id== 123 select obj).FirstOrDefault<Tab1>();

  • How to prevent column b containing the same value as any column a in Oracle?

    - by Janek Bogucki
What is a good way to prevent a table with 2 columns, a and b, from having any record where column b is equal to any value in column a? This would be used for a table of corrections like this, MR -> Mr Prf. -> Prof. MRs -> Mrs I can see how it could be done with a trigger and a subquery assuming no concurrent activity but a more declarative approach would be preferable. This is an example of what should be prevented, Wing Commdr. -> Wing Cdr. Wing Cdr. -> Wing Commander Ideally the solution would work with concurrent inserts and updates.

  • Sqlite: Selecting records spread over total records

    - by Martin
I have a sql / sqlite question. I need to write a query that select some values from a sqlite database table. I always want the maximal returned records to be 20. If the total selected records are more than 20 I need to select 20 records that are spread over the total records. It is also important that I always select the first and last value from the table when sorted on the date. I know how to accomplish this in code but it would be perfect to have a sqlite query that can do the same. The query Im using now is really simple and looks like this: "SELECT value, date, valueid FROM tblvalue WHERE tblvalue.deleted=0 ORDER BY DATE(date)" Hope I explained what I need, thanks for your help!

  • How to define one-to-many connection between a same model through another model

    - by Mekajiki
I want to define one-to-many relationship as follows; User has one introducer User has many newcomers(who is introduced by the user) Use "Introduction" model instead of adding a column to users table. My table and model definition is as follows; DB Scheme: create_table "introductions", force: true do |t| t.integer "introducer_id" t.integer "newcomer_id" t.datetime "created_at" t.datetime "updated_at" User model: class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :introductions, foreign_key: :introducer_id has_many :newcomers, through: :introductions, source: :newcomer belongs_to :introduction, foreign_key: :newcomer_id belongs_to :introducer end Introduction model: class Introduction < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :introducer, class_name: 'User' belongs_to :newcomer, class_name: 'User' end This works fine: user1.newcomers.push user2 but, user2.introducer # => nil How can I define belongs_to relationship correctly?

  • VARCHAR does not work as expected in Apache Derby

    - by Tom Brito
I'm having this same problem: How can I truncate a VARCHAR to the table field length AUTOMATICALLY in Derby using SQL? To be specific: CREATE TABLE A ( B VARCHAR(2) ); INSERT INTO A B VALUES ('1234'); would throw a SQLException: A truncation error was encountered trying to shrink VARCHAR '123' to length 2. that is already answered: No. You should chop it off after checking the meta-data. Or if you don't wanna check the meta-data everytime, then you must keep both your code and database in sync. But thats not a big deal, its a usual practice in validators. but my doubt is: isn't VARCHAR suppose to variate its size to fit the data? What's wrong with apache derby's VARCHAR?

  • MySQL and Collation

    - by user294787
I have a table with a column using utf8_unicode_ci character set. This table stores Japanese data and my problem is that using this character set, I'm not able to store the same word written in katakana and hiragana because it's considered to be the same word. For example ??? and ???, which mean I, me. I know that I can change the character set to utf8_general_ci to resolve this problem but is it possible to bypass this limitation ? I mean, keep utf8_unicode_ci character set and make those two words be inserted? Is it possible to make this work using CONVERT or CAST operators? Thanks.

  • Select from multiple tables, remove duplicates

    - by staze
I have two tables in a SQLite DB, and both have the following fields: idnumber, firstname, middlename, lastname, email, login One table has all of these populated, the other doesn't have the idnumber, or middle name populated. I'd LIKE to be able to do something like: select idnumber, firstname, middlename, lastname, email, login from users1,users2 group by login; But I get an "ambiguous" error. Doing something like: select idnumber, firstname, middlename, lastname, email, login from users1 union select idnumber, firstname, middlename, lastname, email, login from users2; LOOKS like it works, but I see duplicates. my understanding is that union shouldn't allow duplicates, but maybe they're not real duplicates since the second user table doesn't have all the fields populated (e.g. "20, bob, alan, smith, [email protected], bob" is not the same as "NULL, bob, NULL, smith, [email protected], bob"). Any ideas? What am I missing? All I want to do is dedupe based on "login". Thanks!

  • doctrine2: many-to-one with non default referencedColumnName does not persist entity

    - by timaschew
I'm using symfony 2.1.2 with FOSUserBundle. I extend the User from FOS and define a many-to-one (bidirectional) association to a Customer entity. I don't want to use primary key for the association (referencedColumnName). I will use another integer uniqe column: customer_no use FOS\UserBundle\Entity\User as BaseUser; /** * @ORM\Entity * @ORM\Table(name="t_myuser") */ class MyUser extends BaseUser { /** * @ORM\ManyToOne(targetEntity="Customer", inversedBy="user") * @ORM\JoinColumn(name="customer_no", referencedColumnName="customer_no", nullable=false) */ $public $customer; } /** * @ORM\Entity * @ORM\Table(name="t_customer") */ class Customer extends BaseEntity // provides an id (pk) { /** * @ORM\Column(type="integer", unique=true, nullable=false) */ public $customer_no; /** * @ORM\OneToMany(targetEntity="MyUser", mappedBy="customer") */ public $user; } When I try to persist (via a form) a new MyUser entity with an (already in db existing and) loaded Customer entity from db, I get this error: Notice: Undefined index: customer_no in ...\vendor\doctrine\orm\lib\Doctrine\ORM\Persisters\BasicEntityPersister.php line 608 The schema on the db is all right. //update: I fix the inversedBy and mappedBy stuff, but this is not the problem.

  • What is the problem with the logic in my UPDATE statement?

  • How to optimize my PostgreSQL DB for prefix search?

    - by asmaier
I have a table called "nodes" with roughly 1.7 million rows in my PostgreSQL db =#\d nodes Table "public.nodes" Column | Type | Modifiers --------+------------------------+----------- id | integer | not null title | character varying(256) | score | double precision | Indexes: "nodes_pkey" PRIMARY KEY, btree (id) I want to use information from that table for autocompletion of a search field, showing the user a list of the ten titles having the highest score fitting to his input. So I used this query (here searching for all titles starting with "s") =# explain analyze select title, score from nodes where title ilike 's%' order by score desc; QUERY PLAN ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sort (cost=64177.92..64581.38 rows=161385 width=25) (actual time=4930.334..5047.321 rows=161264 loops=1) Sort Key: score Sort Method: external merge Disk: 5712kB -> Seq Scan on nodes (cost=0.00..46630.50 rows=161385 width=25) (actual time=0.611..4464.413 rows=161264 loops=1) Filter: ((title)::text ~~* 's%'::text) Total runtime: 5260.791 ms (6 rows) This was much to slow for using it with autocomplete. With some information from Using PostgreSQL in Web 2.0 Applications I was able to improve that with a special index =# create index title_idx on nodes using btree(lower(title) text_pattern_ops); =# explain analyze select title, score from nodes where lower(title) like lower('s%') order by score desc limit 10; QUERY PLAN ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Limit (cost=18122.41..18122.43 rows=10 width=25) (actual time=1324.703..1324.708 rows=10 loops=1) -> Sort (cost=18122.41..18144.60 rows=8876 width=25) (actual time=1324.700..1324.702 rows=10 loops=1) Sort Key: score Sort Method: top-N heapsort Memory: 17kB -> Bitmap Heap Scan on nodes (cost=243.53..17930.60 rows=8876 width=25) (actual time=96.124..1227.203 rows=161264 loops=1) Filter: (lower((title)::text) ~~ 's%'::text) -> Bitmap Index Scan on title_idx (cost=0.00..241.31 rows=8876 width=0) (actual time=90.059..90.059 rows=161264 loops=1) Index Cond: ((lower((title)::text) ~>=~ 's'::text) AND (lower((title)::text) ~<~ 't'::text)) Total runtime: 1325.085 ms (9 rows) So this gave me a speedup of factor 4. But can this be further improved? What if I want to use '%s%' instead of 's%'? Do I have any chance of getting a decent performance with PostgreSQL in that case, too? Or should I better try a different solution (Lucene?, Sphinx?) for implementing my autocomplete feature?

  • SQL-query task, decision?

    - by Sirius Lampochkin
    There is a table of currencies rates in MS SQL Server 2005: ID | CURR | RATE | DATE 1   | USD   | 30      | 01.10.2010 3   | GBP   | 45      | 07.10.2010 5   | USD   | 31      | 08.10.2010 7   | GBP   | 46      | 09.10.2010 9   | USD   | 32      | 12.10.2010 11 | GBP   | 48      | 03.10.2010 Rate are updated in real time and there are more than 1 billion rows in the table. It needs to write a SQL-query, wich will provide latest rates per each currency. My decision is: SELECT c.[id],c.[curr],c.[rate],c.[date] FROM [curr_rate] c, (SELECT curr, MAX(date) AS rate_date FROM [curr_rate] GROUP BY curr) t WHERE c.date = t.rate_date AND c.curr = t.curr ORDER BY c.[curr] ASC Is it possible to write a query without sub-queries and join's with derived tables?

  • Design of Business Layer

    - by Adil Mughal
Hi, We are currently revamping our architecture and design of application. We have just completed design of Data Access Layer which is generic in the sense that it works using XML and reflection to persist data. Any ways now we are in the phase of designing business layer. We have read some books related to Enterprise Architecture and Design so we have found that there are few patterns that can be applied on business layer. Table Pattern and Domain Model are example of such patterns. Also we have found Domain Driven Design as well. Earlier we decided to build Entities against table objects. But we found that there is difference in Entities and Value Objects when it comes to DDD. For those of you who have gone through such design. Please guide me related to pattern, practice and sample. Thank you in advance! Also please feel free to discuss if you didn't get any point of mine.

  • Implementing full text search on iPhone?

    - by Nimrod
I'm looking for suggestions on the best way to implement a full-text search on some static data on the iPhone. Basically I have an app that contains the offline version of a web site, about 50MB of text, and I'd like for users to be able to search for terms. I figure that I should somehow build an table of ("word", reference_to_file_containing_word) or something, put that into either Core Data or just sqlite, index the "word" column, then have the search facility search the table for search terms and take the intersection of the sets of results for the terms or something. That wouldn't allow people to search for phrases but it would be pretty easy and probably not too slow. I'd like to just use existing SDK features for this. Should I use Core Data or sqlite? Does anyone have any other ideas on how this could be done?

  • How to build an interactive search engine web interface using python

    - by asmaier
I have build a static web interface for searching data from some tables in my PostgreSQL database. The query website consists of a simple textfield for entering the search term, the result website presents the results as a simple html table. The server side code for searching the PostgreSQL database and returning the results is written in python using psycopg2. Now I would like to add some interactive "Ajax features" to my search engine. When entering the search term I would like to be able to see a list of possible search terms like Google does it. On the results page, I would like to be able to sort the table showing the results. What would be the easiest/recommended way to implement these features for my search engine web site? Do I need a full-fledged web framework like Django for that?
