  • TCP RST Reset Every 5 Minutes on Windows 2003 sp2

    - by Dan
Hey, Recently I had a web developer come to me and ask why he was receiving connection errors in his app that was accessing a sql database. So, I went through my normal trouble shooting steps to isolate or reproduce the issue. I discovered that if I connected to the database using Query Analyzer and let the connection idle for 5 minutes it would disconnect. Meaning... I would no longer be able to refresh my tables or any other object/node within the object browser in Query Analyzer. I would have to right click on the instance and refresh for it to re-establish the connection. Next I went to wireshark and ran a capture on the client pc's nic card. Sure enough it was receiving a TCP RST reset every 5 min if the connection idled longer than 5 min. I also ran a capture on the SQL Server and noticed the TCP RST reset command as well. Attached below is the capture from the client Machine. If someone could please assist... That would be great. -I checked all settings within SQL Server 2000 against another server and they all seem to be the same. -Issue does not occur if I connect to any other SQL server 2000 server. -Issue does not occur if connecting to SQL on the server itself... so only over the network. -I consulted with network team and this is the response back: There are no firewalls or proxies in between SQL Server and your desktop. The traffic flows like this: Desktop-Access Switch-Distro Switch-Core Switch-Datacenter Switch-SQL Server None of the switches have security ACL’s configured on them. Also they stated that NAT was not turned on. -Issue does not occur with SQL server Enterprise Manager. -Ran SQL Profiler at the same time and did not see anything out of the ordinary during the RST I HAVE SEARCHED HIGH AND LOW ON GOOGLE FOR A RESOLUTION FOR THIS ISSUE. NO LUCK! My questions are: What could be causing this? Wrong Sequence number? setting in a router or switch the network team may have over looked? Setting within Windows? Setting within SQL Server 2000 that I have over looked? Better way to utilize Wireshark to find more answers? RST is about 10 from the bottom. • xen 4.1 host priodically dropping network packets of domU

    - by Dyutiman Chakraborty
I have xen 4.1 Host running on a ubuntu 12.04 LTS Server with ip 153.x.x.54. I have setup 2 VMs on it, namely, "dev.mydomain.com" and "web.mydomain.com" with ips 195.X.X.2 and 195.x.x.3 respectively. For network the VMs connect through xendbr0 (xen-bridge), and can accces the network properly. I can also login to the VMs with ssh with no issue. However when I ping any of the VMs, there is a high amount of periodic packet drop. If I the ping the xen host (dom0) there is no packet drop. Following is a output of "tcpdump | grep ICMP" on dOM0 while I was pinging one of the domU tcpdump: verbose output suppressed, use -v or -vv for full protocol decode listening on eth0, link-type EN10MB (Ethernet), capture size 65535 bytes 05:19:55.682493 IP ABTS-North-Dynamic-226.X.X.122.airtelbroadband.in > web.mydomain.com: ICMP echo request, id 3460, seq 30, length 64 05:19:56.691144 IP my application sometimes starts to eat too much memory in a few seconds then crashes, i used debugdiag to take a dump when this happened, in the analyse i see lots of memory allocations all of them has the same information and each of them allocates 128mb. they look like this: Address 0x00000000`aff41798 Allocation Time 06:56:06 since tracking started Allocation Size 128.00 MBytes Function Source Destination LeakTrack+186cf clr!CExecutionEngine::ClrVirtualAlloc+3c clr!ClrVirtualAlloc+3c clr!WKS::virtual_alloc+42 clr!WKS::gc_heap::get_segment+a2 clr!WKS::gc_heap::get_large_segment+204 clr!WKS::gc_heap::loh_get_new_seg+78 clr! ?? ::FNODOBFM::`string'+a008a clr!WKS::gc_heap::try_allocate_more_space+31b clr!WKS::gc_heap::allocate_more_space+26 clr!WKS::gc_heap::allocate_large_object+6a clr!WKS::GCHeap::Alloc+b5 clr!FramedAllocateString+b06 mscorlib_ni+39f5fd mscorlib_ni+389f83 System_Xml_ni+451adc System_Data_SqlXml_ni+2275d4 System_Data_SqlXml_ni+233f32 System_Data_SqlXml_ni+8ec28 System_Data_SqlXml_ni+8eb65 System_Web_ni+2882b2 System_Web_ni+2794b6 System_Web_ni+2794b6 0x7FF002474BC what can be wrong about my code? any suggestions?

  • Microsoft Word 2007 opening all docs with field codes toggled off

    - by WilliamKF
Recently, something changed with my Microsoft Word 2007 installation/preferences on Windows XP, such that whenever I open a word document, all the field codes are displayed raw instead of as their expanded value. For example, my header reads: My Name { TITLE \* MERGEFORMAT } Version { REVNUM \* MERGEFORMAT } But, if I copy and paste it here, it reads expanded: My Name My Doc Title Version 42 I expect to see the copy and paste version directly inside Word, I can work around this by right clicking on each such field and choosing toggle field codes, however, I never had to do that before, as previously, the document opened with all such field codes expanded. Another example is the Table of Contents which shows as: { TOC \o "1-3" \h \z \u } Instead of the full table of contents. I searched the word options dialog, but could not find anything that appeared relevant. Please suggest how to restore the old behavior.

  • Rsync from godaddy to OS X

    - by Ola
I would like to use rsync to backup my website to my local computer (OS X). I started of with this guide and got pretty far. I use the following rsync-line: rsync -PzrlptgD --del --delete-excluded -r --rsync-path=~/bin/rsync user@server:~/ /local/backup/folder/ I wanted to use the -a option (same as rlptgoD) but it crashes as soon as I use the -o flag. receiving file list ... rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (8 bytes received so far) [receiver] rsync error: unexplained error (code 255) at /SourceCache/rsync/rsync-42/rsync/io.c(452) [receiver=2.6.9] If I skip the --owner flag it copies the files but I'm not really sure what difference it makes (I've tried to read up on it but found nothing) Should I just skip using the --owner flag? Or have I done any other mistake? Thanks in advance //OL

  • PHP pages working slow from time to time

    - by user1038179
I have VPS with limit of 2GB of ram and 8 CPU cores. I have 5 sites on that VPS (one of them is just for testing, no visitors exept me). All 5 sites are image galleries, like wallpaper sites. Last week I noticed problem on one site (main domain, used for name servers, and also with most traffic, visitors). That site has two image galleries, one is old static html gallery made few years ago and another, main, is powered by ZENPhoto CMS. Also I have that same gallery CMS on another two sites on that same VPS (on one running site and on one just for testing site). On other two sites I have diferent PHP driven gallery. Problem is that after some time (it vary from 10 minutes to few hours after apache restart), loading of pages on main site becomes very slow, or I get 503 Service Temporarily Unavailable error. So pages becomes unavailable. But just that part with new CMS gallery, old part of site with static html pages are working fast and just fine. Also other two sites with same CMS gallery and other two with different PHP driven gallery are working fine and fast at the same time. I thought it must be something with CMS on that main site, because other sites are working nice. Then I tryed to open contact and guest book pages on that main site which are outside of that CMS but also PHP pages, and they do not load too, but that same contact php scipts are working on other sites at the same time. So, when site starts to hangs, ONLY PHP generated content is not working, like I said other static pages are working. And, ONLY on that one main site I have problems. Then I need to restart Apache, after restart everything is vorking nice and fast, for some time, than again, just PHP pages on main site are becomming slower. If I do not restart apache that slowness take some time (several minutes, hours, depending ot traffic) and during that time PHP diven content is loading very slow or unavailable on that site. After sime time, on moments everything start to work and is fast again for some time, and again. In hours with more traffic PHP content is loading slowly or it is unavailable, in hours with less traffic it is sometimes fast and sometimes little bit slower than usually. And ones again, only on that main site, and only PHP driven pages, static pages are working fast even in most traffic hours also other sites with even same CMS are working fast. Currently I have about 7000 unique visitors on that site but site worked nice even with 11500 visitors per day. And about 17000 in total visitors on VPS, all sites ( about 3 pages per unique visitor). When site start to slow down sometimes in apache status I can see something like this: mod_fcgid status: Total FastCGI processes: 37 Process: php5 (/usr/local/cpanel/cgi-sys/php5)Pid Active Idle Accesses State 11300 39 28 7 Working 11274 47 28 7 Working 11296 40 29 3 Working 11283 45 30 3 Working 11304 36 31 1 Working 11282 46 32 3 Working 11292 42 33 1 Working 11289 44 34 1 Working 11305 35 35 0 Working 11273 48 36 2 Working 11280 47 39 1 Working 10125 133 40 12 Exiting(communication error) 11294 41 41 1 Exiting(communication error) 11277 47 42 2 Exiting(communication error) 11291 43 43 1 Exiting(communication error) 10187 108 43 10 Exiting(communication error) 10209 95 44 7 Exiting(communication error) 10171 113 44 5 Exiting(communication error) 11275 47 47 1 Exiting(communication error) 10144 125 48 8 Exiting(communication error) 10086 149 48 20 Exiting(communication error) 10212 94 49 5 Exiting(communication error) 10158 118 49 5 Exiting(communication error) 10169 114 50 4 Exiting(communication error) 10105 141 50 16 Exiting(communication error) 10094 146 50 15 Exiting(communication error) 10115 139 51 17 Exiting(communication error) 10213 93 51 9 Exiting(communication error) 10197 103 51 7 Exiting(communication error) Process: php5 (/usr/local/cpanel/cgi-sys/php5)Pid Active Idle Accesses State 7983 1079 2 149 Ready 7979 1079 11 151 Ready Process: php5 (/usr/local/cpanel/cgi-sys/php5)Pid Active Idle Accesses State 7990 1066 0 57 Ready 8001 1031 64 35 Ready 7999 1032 94 29 Ready 8000 1031 91 36 Ready 8002 1029 34 52 Ready Process: php5 (/usr/local/cpanel/cgi-sys/php5)Pid Active Idle Accesses State 7991 1064 29 115 Ready When it is working nicly there is no lines with "Exiting(communication error)" Active and Idle are time active and time since last request, in seconds. • Windows 7 CHKDSK log - What is "Internal Info"?

If I run Disk Scan (CHKDSK) on Windows 7, I get the log in the event viewer. Is there any meaningful information in that field, other than debug info for the programmers who developed this tool?

  • ifcfg-eth* on CentOS 6.x, but for IPv6 only?

    - by Ray Hoffman
Could someone kindly provide a skeleton ifcfg-eth0:[X] for creating an alias with a IPv6 address and no IPv4 address? Or, alternatively, what's the IPv6 equivalent of this: in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0:1 DEVICE=eth0:1 ONBOOT=yes BOOTPROTO=static IPADDR=42.69.66.66 NETMASK=255.255.255.0 Or does this not even make sense in IPv6 space? I know that I can use, for example: IPV6INIT=yes IPV6ADDR=2600:4200::6900:6666:dead:beef But then do I need to specify that there is no IPv4 address associated with this alias? If so, how? And do I need to also specify the IPV6_DEFAULTGW? Or can it piggyback on the eth0 (unaliased) gateway, which is specifed, like with IPv4 aliases? EDIT: Answered my own question! The easiest way to accomplish this seems to be not to create an alias as with IPV4, but to specify, for example, IPV6ADDR_SECONDARIES=2600:4200::6900:6666:dead:beef on the script for the base interface, e.g. ifcfg-eth0.

  • Can I use a multi-line function or control flow segment into the PowerShellFar editor console

    - by Justin Dearing
If I am running farmanager with FarNet and PowerShellFar I can bring up a console of sorts by selecting F11 | .NET PowerShell | Editor Console. This console is based on the far editor. I can paste snippets of powershell scripts into this console and edit them. The only problem is if I want to use a multi-line function or control flow segment in the console. If I paste it in it has no effect. If I attempt to type one in I get an error similar to: ERROR: IncompleteParseException: Missing closing '}' in statement block. At line:1 char:42 + foreach ($number in 1..10 ) { $number * 7 <<<< + CategoryInfo : ParserError: (CloseBraceToken:TokenId) [], ParentContainsErrorRecordException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : MissingEndCurlyBrace Is this simply a limitation of PowerShellFar?

  • Streaming flash video does not work on my Mac OS X

    - by dehmann
Flash videos do not work properly on my Mac. On this Vimeo video, for example, it shows only the beginning frame, and audio stutters like crazy, playing audio for a quarter second or so, then silence, then playing again, etc. I have Flash version 10,0,42,34 on Mac OS 10.5.8. It's a PowerBook G4 (PPC). I tried it in Firefox 3.5.5 and Safari 4.0.3. I tried reinstalling Flash, restarting the computer, and using a fresh user profile in Firefox (so that no extensions are interfering with the site), loading the video fully before playing, but nothing helps. I noticed that youtube videos work better, once loaded enough, although the picture does halt briefly once every 10 or so seconds, even when it's fully loaded.

  • Logging Timeout'd Request in Apache 2.X

    - by m3rLinEz
Hello, I am migrating some applications from Apache 1.3 to 2.2. We used to run some tests where attacker opens some HTTP connection to our server, and do nothing. Apache 1.3 would log the following 408 code, for example: 126.1.86.85 - - [01/Dec/2010:06:26:19 +0000] "-" 408 - "-" 0 126.1.86.85 - - [01/Dec/2010:06:26:19 +0000] "-" 408 - "-" 0 But with Apache 2.2, nothing is logged to the log file. I run the same test by using netcat to open the connection: $ nc IP_victim PORT_victim $ nc 10.42.37.3 80 I would like to have Apache 2.2 log the same 408 code to the log file, so that we would know of attempted DoS attack from the outside. Do I need any more configuration in Apache 2 to enable this? I have tried some different configurations such as LogLevel = Debug, Timeout 30, RequestReadTimeout header=10 body=30. Thanks.

Not sure what results or readings i can give you so just ask and i will do whatever is needed. netstat (top 20 connections) 7 79.142.88.250 8 120.202.249.19 8 159.226.21.62 8 188.168.38.102 8 202.114.6.37 8 222.62.207.70 9 60.191.35.42 10 112.124.46.186 10 116.228.55.184 10 181.133.218.11 10 222.90.111.146 11 183.136.146.110 12 124.127.51.135 12 92.225.24.24 13 221.176.23.242 15 119.10.115.165 16 17 218.6.224.66 21 116.228.55.217 24 114.112.194.19 top CPU usage seems to add up to about 10% Mailq is empty Thanks in advance

  • Snow Leopard: MySQL doesn't start

    - by brainfck
Hi, I have updated to Snow Leopard and I removed mysql by following this post: http://forums.mysql.com/read.php?11,75256,255853#msg-255853 After that I have installed the mysql 64 bit community edition, but using the prefpane MySQL doesn't start. Using the terminal gives us some more informations, but I don't know how to interpret them: stefansmac:~ stefan$ cd /usr/local/mysql-5.1.42-osx10.5-x86_64/bin/ stefansmac:bin stefan$ sudo ./mysqld_safe 100105 13:56:35 mysqld_safe Logging to '/usr/local/mysql-5.0.51b-osx10.5-x86//stefansmac.local.err'. 100105 13:56:35 mysqld_safe Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /usr/local/mysql-5.0.51b-osx10.5-x86/ 100105 13:56:35 mysqld_safe mysqld from pid file /usr/local/mysql-5.0.51b-osx10.5-x86//stefansmac.local.pid ended Best regards

  • Windows Handling Piped Comands Error Redirection

    - by jpmartins
Warning: I am no expert on building scripts, and sorry for lousy English. In an case of generating a CSV from a database query I'm using the following commands. ... CALL java.exe -classpath ... com.xigole.util.sql.Jisql -user dmfodbc -pf pwd.file -driver com.sybase.jdbc3.jdbc.SybDriver -cstring %constr% -c ; -input 42.sql -formatter csv -delimiter ; 2%LOGFILE% | CALL grep -v -e "SELECT right" -e "executing: " -e " rows affect" %FicheiroR% 2%LOGFILE% ... I'm using windows implementation of grep. The 2%LOGFILE% in both java and grep command is causing an error message indicating the file is being use by another process. The Ugly workaround i have came up with is to put grep error redirect to a temporary %LOGFILE%.aux java ... | grep ... 2%LOGFILE%.aux type %LOGFILE%.aux % %LOGFILE% del %LOGFILE%.aux What is a better solution?
