  hi guys, I got a gift from a friend, 2 readers for RFID, and some cards (from a Chinese company called daily rfid), the kind of work, because it comes with some demo software written in Delphi, that reads the id of the card (myfare compatible, ISO14443A ) but the problem is that if I try to use the demo to write to them, it doesnt seem to work, it have another demo written in c#, (compiled and executable from /bin/debug, the DL600DemoCSharp.exe), the software opens, but when click on connect, I get this error Unhanded exception.. unable to load DLL 'BasicB.DLL' so I load the dll on windows/system32, but when I try regsvr32 BasicB.dll I get, error the module "BasicB.dll" was loaded but hte entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found. Make sure that "BasicB.dll" is a valid DLL or OCX file and then try again have written to the company but no response, I program in objective C, so I kind of understand c#, but how to make this cards work? - shall I continue with the delphi, and try to write to them with it - or with c# - either way I would have to write the code to read write to them,, or is there any software to work with this modules?? thanks a lot!

• How do I re-install Samba?

  I recently followed a guide to configure Samba but I couldn't get it configured properly. After realizing that the guide was six years out of date I thought I should start again. I reinstalled samba by first using these commands: sudo apt-get purge samba sudo apt-get install samba But after reading my configuration file (/etc/samba/smb.conf) I noticed that it was the same file, containing the same edits I had made. I then proceeded to delete the directory and then re-install samba again. However, the directory is not replaced after re-instillation and now I don't appear to have a configuration file. How do I get it back? Or install Samba correctly?

• Please Help to bring back power to my machine

  I Have a samsung N150plus netbook That I have been using for a while now. I left it on and plugged to a wall outlet and went to bed. I dual boot ubuntu and win7. I tried to update the win7 to sp1 and I dozed off. I woke up and saw the machine has been booted to ubuntu and logged in as guest, which translate to mean one of my room mates have tried to use the machine and they all have denied using my machine. I tried to reboot to windows and then it appears to have no cpu, hard disk and cpu fan activity. only one led seems to come on when i plug it in. its only the led that indicate the machine is powered on powers steadily. I really cant afford to buy a new machine now and I need the machine to complete my last project in school for my last year. Help Please

• Fake RAID (dmraid) not seeing new SATA drives

  I have three drives in my machine, one SSD with 32GB and two 1TB drives, attached to an Intel 82801JI (ICH10) SATA AHCI Controller. The problem is, that I can access only one of the 1TB drives when the other one is not plugged in. When it is plugged in I see the drives as sda and sdb, but there seem to be no partitions. Looking at these drives with cfdisk, the partitions are there, though. Both of the 1TB drives are carrying a partition, being part of a software RAID1, created with mdadm. Before I threw the SSD into the mix, the other two have been working fine. Any hints?

  Hi everyone! I bought new computer. The Graphics card is AMD Radeon HD 6450, on Windows 7 it works fine but I try to install driver on Ubuntu, and it says that "No supported adapters detected". I downloaded the driver from here. After installing "Aditional drivers" says that driver is installed. Also my screen resolution in Ubuntu is not maximum.   I am going to buy Logitech C510 HD webcam and I just checked on other questions here on AskUbuntu that it works out of the box with cheese. Jorge's response also confirm this and I feel confident buying it now. My question is can it be limited in any functionality that I would like to do with it? I would like it to be used with everything - Skype, Gtalk video chat, Facebook, Youtube etc. Also this may sound lame but I need to know whether I could record or do a video call in lesser resolution video (its a 720p one)? • How to disable integrated webcam and still be able to use an external one

  I am looking for a way to disable the webcam that is integrated into my laptop. The webcam is using uvcvideo module but I do not want to blacklist it since it is also being used by an external webcam I have. Is there any way of disabling the device itself without touching the modules list? This is how the webcams are listed by lsusb. The first one is an integrated one (It is identified by some apps as BisonCam NB Pro), the second one is the external Logitech C525: Bus 002 Device 004: ID 5986:0361 Acer, Inc Bus 003 Device 002: ID 046d:0826 Logitech, Inc. I have already checked BIOS - there is no way of disabling the webcam from there. Besides I would love to learn how to disable the device by ID anyway. Thanks!

• How to automatically mount a Windows shared folder on every boot up?

  I am able to access Windows' shared folder from Ubuntu 10.10 Nautilus like so: Type into the Location Bar : smb://box/projects Now, I can see the folder in Nautilus, create/read files in it. Also, on desktop I get a folder called "projects on box". But, that folder on the desktop goes away when I reboot. So, I thought that I can automount the Windows' shared projects folder by adding this to my fstab: //box/Projects /home/base/Projects smbfs rw,user,username=jack,password=www222,fmask=666,dmask=777 0 0 (base is my user name on Ubuntu) Now, I get a folder called "Projects" in my home folder after boot up, but it is empty (cannot see the same files that I can see in Nautilus). What's am I doing wrong? Some more detail: This is what I see of the Projects folder when I do ls -l in my home folder: ... drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2011-01-01 10:22 Projects drwxr-xr-x 2 base base 4096 2011-01-01 09:06 Public ... Note the two "roots". Is that somehow the problem?

  I have a few new Dell laptops and desktop PC's. Some of them have extremely noisy fans. The technicians who are sent by Dell refuse to attempt to fix things when they see that the OS is Ubuntu. They seem to be comfortable dealing with machines running MS Windows. For Linux, is there any way to slow or lower the fan speed? Please can anyone advise how it should be done. I have tried lm_sensors but failed.

  I've recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my desktop computer. In order to install Ubuntu, I had to unplug my video card because It was giving me problems, didn't allow me to install Ubuntu. So I unplug it, installed Ubuntu anyway, everything worked as charm, but now and I need to plug it again, but it doesn't work. I have very very little knowledge (Red Hat when I was younger) with Linux in general. My main desktop is Windows 7 and my plan is to use the Ubuntu computer as a file server sort of speak. I want to be able to setup back up schedules from my Windows PC to the Ubuntu PC (plan on leaving this on 24/7 to double as a Seedbox) How do I go on to doing this?

The site is somewhat like Yelp but for different topics. I am wondering which button to put there. Does it do any good to have individual pages "liked" and does it show anywhere besides on that page? • How Do Computers Work? [closed]

  This is almost embarrassing ask...I have a degree in Computer Science (and a second one in progress). I've worked as a full-time .NET Developer for nearly five years. I generally seem competent at what I do. But I Don't Know How Computers Work! Please, bare with me for a second. A quick Google of 'How a Computer Works' will yield lots and lots of results, but I struggled to find one that really answered what I'm looking for. I realize this is a huge, huge question, so really, if you can just give me some keywords or some direction. I know there are components....the power supply, the motherboard, ram, CPU, etc...and I get the 'general idea' of what they do. But I really don't understand how you go from a line of code like Console.Readline() in .NET (or Java or C++) and have it actually do stuff. Sure, I'm vaguely aware of MSIL (in the case of .NET), and that some magic happens with the JIT compiler and it turns into native code (I think). I'm told Java is similar, and C++ cuts out the middle step. I've done some mainframe assembly, it was a few years back now. I remember there were some instructions and some CPU registers, and I wrote code....and then some magic happened....and my program would work (or crash). From what I understand, an 'Emulator' would simulate what happens when you call an instruction and it would update the CPU registers; but what makes those instructions work the way they do? Does this turn into an Electronics question and not a 'Computer' question? I'm guessing there isn't any practical reason for me to understand this, but I feel like I should be able to. (Yes, this is what happens when you spend a day with a small child. It takes them about 10 minutes and five iterations of asking 'Why?' for you to realize how much you don't know)

As far as I can tell, I have implemented it exactly like in the example, but likes and twitts aren't registered. I have also altered the ga_social_tracking.js to register the social interactions as events, adding the code below. It doesn't work either. What could be wrong? Thanks! IBM released the first model of its iconic electromechanical typewriter in 1961, a time when being able to type fast and accurately was a highly sought-after skill.
