  • Cron Job to Schedule Rails Website Going Live?

    Hello, World.. I'm currently building a website for an awesome youth church we run (shameless plug!).. Anywho at the moment we have a static countdown page http://mybase.co , and were having a massive launch this weekend and the site needs to go live when we launch, it's a rails app.. How would you recommend scheduling it going live? having a cron job and an apache a2en? or is there a better way? Thanks Daniel

  • how can I Replace a normalize job title in a contact entity based on a lookup enity

    Folks, Im using MSCRM 4 and I have a contact entity with an actual job title and a normalized job title field. I would like to populate the normalized job title field based on the actual job title. I created a seperate entity which is a table that corelates the nomalized job title with the actual job title eg Administrative CFO equals CFO. I guess this needs to be done via an on-load or on-save script But I cant figure out how to do it. Any help would be much appreciated Regards Joe ( Scotland)

I have a degree in Chemistry and a Diploma in Programming (half a degree made up of 2nd/3rd year uni courses). You need to initialize a DS so that you could use it to implement an autocomplete feature (like google suggest) comfortably. The requirement: Once the data from the db is processed into the data structure, when you type a letter you get the 10 most popular searchphrases from the db starting with that letter,then when you type the next one you get the 10 .... with these two letters and so on.   • ERP system written in SQL Server, Trigger job not running

    We are a manufacturing plant that runs off an ERP system written in SQL Server. I have never worked with SQL and therefore do not know the language.   • Missing Required Gems - javan-whenever and cron job in rails

    Hi, I have finally managed to get javan-whenever gem working on my site5 server, and updating the crontab is quite easy, however whenever a cron job is run with the code that is generated, i get a "missing required gems" error where it lists about 8/10 of my gems. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what would the solution be. The funny thing is that when it outputs where my gems are, this is all correct, and the gems are loading fine from within my application. Cheers, Matenia

    printf("/something else/"); //without using \n in printf I know printf() uses a buffer which prints whatever it contains when, in the buffer, "\n" is seen by the buffer. So when we forget to use "\n" in printf ,rarely,buffer will not be emptied.Therefore,printf wont do its job. Am I wrong?

  • Code Golf: Leibniz formula for Pi

    I recently posted one of my favourite interview whiteboard coding questions in "What's your more controversial programming opinion", which is to write a function that computes Pi using the Leibniz formula. It can be approached in a number of different ways, and the exit condition takes a bit of thought, so I thought it might make an interesting code golf question. Shortest code wins! Given that Pi can be estimated using the function 4 * (1 - 1/3 + 1/5 - 1/7 + ...) with more terms giving greater accuracy, write a function that calculates Pi to within 0.00001. Edit: 3 Jan 2008 As suggested in the comments I changed the exit condition to be within 0.00001 as that's what I really meant (an accuracy 5 decimal places is much harder due to rounding and so I wouldn't want to ask that in an interview, whereas within 0.00001 is an easier to understand and implement exit condition). Also, to answer the comments, I guess my intention was that the solution should compute the number of iterations, or check when it had done enough, but there's nothing to prevent you from pre-computing the number of iterations and using that number. I really asked the question out of interest to see what people would come up with.

  • Python coding test problem for interviews

    I'm trying to come up with a good coding problem to ask interview candidates to solve with Python. They'll have an hour to work on the problem, with an IDE and access to documentation (we don't care what people have memorized). I'm not looking for a tough algorithmic problem - there are other sections of the interview where we do that kind of thing. The point of this section is to sit and watch them actually write code. So it should be something that makes them use just the data structures which are the everyday tools of the application developer - lists, hashtables (dictionaries in Python), etc, to solve a quasi-realistic task. They shouldn't be blocked completely if they can't think of something really clever. We have a problem which we use for Java coding tests, which involves reading a file and doing a little processing on the contents. It works well with candidates who are familiar with Java (or even C++). But we're running into a number of candidates who just don't know Java or C++ or C# or anything like that, but do know Python or Ruby. Which shouldn't exclude them, but leaves us with a dilemma: On the one hand, we don't learn much from watching someone struggle with the basics of a totally unfamiliar language. On the other hand, the problem we use for Java turns out to be pretty trivial in Python (or Ruby, etc) - anyone halfway competent can do it in 15 minutes. So, I'm trying to come up with something better. Surprisingly, Google doesn't show me anyone doing something like this, unless I'm just too dumb to enter the obvious search term. The best idea I've come up with involves scheduling workers to time slots, but it's maybe a little too open-ended. Have you run into a good example? Or a bad one? Or do you just have an idea?

    I recently interviewed a candidate for a new position here. I wish though that I'd read Joel's Guerrilla Guide to Interviewing prior to that interview - naturally I happened upon it the night afterwards :P http://www.joelonsoftware.com/articles/GuerrillaInterviewing3.html So I tried answering the easy questions myself - yeah I used the python interpreter to type stuff in and tested the results a bit - I didn't look up any solutions beforehand though and I also thought about how long it took me to come up with answers for each one and what I'd look for the next time I interview someone. I'd let them type stuff into the interpreter and see how did used python's introspection capabilities too to find out things like what's the re module's method for building a regex etc. Here are my answers - these are in python of course - what are yours in your favourite language? Do you see any issues with the answers I came up with - i.e. how could they be improved upon - what did I miss?   • Birt 2.5.2 report generates empty table data when run from a cron job

    I've got a shell script that runs genReport.sh in order to create a .pdf formatted report, and it works perfectly when it's run from the command line. The data source for the report is a ClearQuest database. When it's run from a CRON job the .pdf file is created, except that only the various report and column headers are displayed, and the data of the report is missing. There are no errors reported to STDERR during the execution of the script. This screams "environment variable" to me. Currently, the shell script is defining the following: CQ_HOME BIRT_HOME ODBCINI ODBCINST LD_LIBRARY_PATH If it's an environmental thing, what part of the environment am I missing?

  • Bash commands not executed when through cron job - PHP

    Hi there! I have a cron job running a PHP script every five minutes; the PHP script executes two bash commands at the end of the script. I know the script is running due to a log file it appends to. When I run the PHP script manually via the Ubuntu Gnome Terminal both bash commands execute flawlessly; however when the PHP script is triggered via cron, the two bash commands are not ran.   • What fields have job security?

    I can program pretty well, and I'm trying to think of a programming area that I can practice so I have a better chance of getting a job when I finish my education. I'm currently learning game development, but there are a ton of other people trying to get into game dev, so I want to find something a little more secure and sustainable to develop skills in. I've thought of things like financial systems and engineering stuff, but nothing I can think of is accessible to someone in high school. I'm trying to find something that involves physics or networking and isn't as popular a field as game dev. Does anyone have any ideas?

Not sure if its not finding the properties file anymore.
