• Security precautions and techniques for a User-submitted Code Demo Area

  Hey folks Maybe this isn't really feasible. But basically, I've been developing a snippet-sharing website and I would like it to have a 'live demo area'. For example, you're browsing some snippets and click the Demo button. A new window pops up which executes the web code. I understand there are a gazillion security risks involved in doing this - XSS, tags, nasty malware/drive by downloads, pr0n, etc. etc. etc. The community would be able to flag submissions that are blatantly naughty but obviously some would go undetected (and, in many cases, someone would have to fall victim to discover whatever nasty thing was submitted). So I need to know: What should I do - security wise - to make sure that users can submit code, but that nothing malicious can be run - or executed offsite, etc? For your information my site is powered by PHP using CodeIgniter. Jack

  I need to read a text file line by line using Java. I use available() method of FileInputStream to check and loop over the file. But while reading, the loop terminates after the line before the last one. i.e., if the file has 10lines, the loop reads only the first 9 lines. • Equalize column javascript not working in Chrome

  Hi, I'm using this mootools javascript snippet to equalize the height of my columns: window.addEvent('domready', function() { var columns = $$('.equalize'); var max_height = 0; columns.each(function(item) { max_height = Math.max(max_height, item.getSize().y); }); columns.setStyle('height', max_height); }); Problem is it's not working properly on Chrome. It's getting the minimum height of the 2 columns instead of getting the maximum. What seems to be the problem and how do I fix it? Thanks in advance!

• Is it safe to convert a mysqlpp::sql_blob to a std::string?

  I'm grabbing some binary data out of my MySQL database. It comes out as a mysqlpp::sql_blob type. It just so happens that this BLOB is a serialized Google Protobuf. I need to de-serialize it so that I can access it normally. This gives a compile error, since ParseFromString() is not intended for mysqlpp:sql_blob types: protobuf.ParseFromString( record.data ); However, if I force the cast, it compiles OK: protobuf.ParseFromString( (std::string) record.data ); Is this safe? I'm particularly worried because of this snippet from the mysqlpp documentation: "Because C++ strings handle binary data just fine, you might think you can use std::string instead of sql_blob, but the current design of String converts to std::string via a C string. As a result, the BLOB data is truncated at the first embedded null character during population of the SSQLS. There’s no way to fix that without completely redesigning either String or the SSQLS mechanism." Thanks for your assistance!

• Cygwin bash syntax error - but script run perfectly well in Ubuntu

Ubuntu runs bash version 4.0+ whereas Cygwin runs 3.2.49; But I reckon version collision shall not be the cause of this, this code runs well under fedora 10 which is also using bash version 3.+ So basically I am wondering if there is a way to code my script once and for all so there are not to have this awful issue later on. • How do I wrap a selection with an HTML tag in Visual Studio?

  This seems like the most basic question in the world, but damned if I can find an answer. Is there a keyboard shortcut, either native to Visual Studio or through Code Rush or other third-party plug-in, to wrap the current selection with an HTML tag? I'm tired of typing the opening tag, cutting the misplaced closing tag to the clipboard, moving the cursor, and pasting it at the end where it belongs. Update: This is how TextMate handles surrounding a selection with a tag. Frankly, I'm stunned that Visual Studio doesn't seem to have a similar feature. Creating a macro or snippet for every conceivable tag I might want to use seems absurd.

I was successful in modifying a few (name, phone number and email to be specific) but not all.   doesn't .getKeyCode( ) return the key's int value? Because i have set my jtextfield to listen to keylistener, and in the keytyped method, i check what key has been pressed.   Hello All, I have the following piece of snippet Class Sample { Obj_Class1 o1; Obj_Class2 o2;}; But the size of Obj_Class1 and Obj_Class2 is huge so that the compiler shows a warning "Consider moving some space to heap". I was asked to replace Obj_Class1 o1 with Obj_Class1* o1 = new Obj_Class1(); But I feel that there is no use of making this change as heap allocation will also fail if stack allocation fails. Am I correct? Or does it make sense to make this change ( other than suppressing the compiler warning ).

• Executing <script> elements inserted with .innerHTML

  I've got a script that inserts some content into an element using innerHTML. The content could for example be: <script type="text/javascript">alert('test');</script> <strong>test</strong> Problem is that the code inside the <script> tag doesn't get executed. I googled it a bit but there were no apparent solutions. If I inserted the content using jQuery $(element).append(content);the script parts got eval'd before being injected into the DOM. Has anyone got a snippet of code that executes all the <script> elements? The jQuery code was a bit complex so I couldn't really figure out how it was done.

  I'm currently testing GAs new async code snippet using two different tracking codes on the same page; _gaq.push( ['_setAccount', 'UA-XXXXXXXX-1'], ['_trackPageview'], ['b._setAccount', 'UA-XXXXXXXX-2'], ['b._trackPageview'] ); Although both codes work, I've noticed that they present inconsistent results. Now, we aren't talking huge differences here, only 1 or 2 visits / day every now and then. However, this site is tiny and 1 or 2 visits equates to a 15% difference in figures. Now, the final site has much more traffic, but my concerns are; will this inconsistancy scale with traffic? assuming not, is a slight variation in recorded stats an accepted norm?

I actually realised that I could answer my question easily by compiling the code, but it's an interesting question nonetheless, so I'll ask the question anyway and answer it myself shortly. Take a look at this snippet: The question considers what happens when we throw from a destructor (which causes terminate() to be called). It's become clear to me by asking the question that the memory is indeed freed and the destructor is called, but, is this before or after throw is called from foo? Perhaps the issue here is that throw is used while the stack is unwinding that is the problem... Actually this is slightly confusing.

  Hello, I am trying to figure out if it is possible to implement a .NET interface, where the interface method has to return something and you are implementing that particular interface method with an asynchronous WCF service? Hopefully you should already see the issue I am encountering. I have this question because I expected strtok to take each and every character that is in the delimiter string to be taken as a delimiter. But in certain cases it is doing that way but in few cases, it is giving unexpected results. Could anyone help me understand this?

  I can't touch the html theme but I have access to the css files. <div class="photos"> <img src="a.jpg" alt="" align="left" /> <img src="b.jpg" alt="" align="left" /> <img src="c.jpg" alt="" align="left" /> //align makes the images wrap </div> Unfortunately I can't remove align="left" from the images otherwise this CSS snippet would have done the job .photos{ white-space: nowrap; } .photos img{ display: inline; vertical-align: top; } Any ideas?   Ok so I have a php page with data dynamically outputs depending on a $_GET variable ['file']. I have another page (index.php) which has a jQuery script that uses the load() function to load the php page. I have a list of links and when you click on one, it needs to change the $_GET variable to load, then refresh the load() jQuery variable. Heres a snippet: $("#remote-files").load("data.php?file=wat.txt"); $(".link1").mousedown(function() { $("#remote-files").load("data.php?file=link1.txt"); }); As you can see it loads the data into a div with the ID of remote-files. Is there a better way to do this, like update the page with the new get variable instead of redefining a new load function?
