• Java still dont recognize horizontal scroll (right click) 14.04

  I am totally trackpoint fan, I use it all the time and have disablet my touchpad. Due to my study I work a lot with MATLAB, but MATLAB uses Java, and horizontal scroll does not be recognized by java as I already reat in many other threats(well it recognizes as right click :S ). There seems to be no solution for that and disable horizontal scroll in matlab is no solution for me at all. Does anybody know about a fix for that or somehow to enable horizontal scroll java. This really drives me crazy. HELP! • How can I refactor a code base while others rapidly commit to it?

  I'm on a private project that eventually will become open source. We have a few team members, talented enough with the technologies to build apps, but not dedicated developers who can write clean/beautiful and most importantly long-term maintainable code. I've set out to refactor the code base, but it's a bit unwieldy as someone in the team out in another country I'm not in regular contact with could be updating this totally separate thing. I know one solution is to communicate rapidly or adopt better PM practices, but we're just not that big yet. I just want to clean up the code and merge nicely into what he has updated. Would a branch be a suitable plan? A best-effort-merge? Something else?

• wget not respecting my robots.txt. Is there an interceptor?

  I have a website where I post csv files as a free service. Recently I have noticed that wget and libwww have been scraping pretty hard and I was wondering how to circumvent that even if only a little. I have implemented a robots.txt policy. I posted it below.. User-agent: wget Disallow: / User-agent: libwww Disallow: / User-agent: * Disallow: / Issuing a wget from my totally independent ubuntu box shows that wget against my server just doesn't seem to work like so.... http://myserver.com/file.csv Anyway I don't mind people just grabbing the info, I just want to implement some sort of flood control, like a wrapper or an interceptor. Does anyone have a thought about this or could point me in the direction of a resource. I realize that it might not even be possible. Just after some ideas. Janie

• Can't get Past Login Screen -Graphics Drivers 12.10

  Newbie Linux user here. I just installed Ubuntu 12.10, dual booting with Windows 8 Preview Release Build 8400 on a Dell Precision 490 workstation with Nvidia Quandro NVS 55/280 PCI graphics card. I cannot login to Ubuntu - after entering my password and pressing enter, the screen graphics gets garbled for a few seconds, and then the screen goes black showing only the mouse cursor. I suspect it's something to do with my Graphics Card, everything on the GUI login screen feels very sluggish. I know what I have provided here doesn't give you much information, would appreciate it if I could get some guidance on how to provide more useful logs. Thank you.

• why google ignore my links page?

  I have a website, where im loading all the data via AJAX. since, google doesn't work with AJAX, and the ways to make it AJAX-friendly are a bit odd, i thought that by creating a links page, where it links, from server side, to all the links that im loading in ajax - will solve the problem. but unfortunately, that doesnt seem to work. google webmaster shows that even though my links page discovered, the content of it - the links - are totally ignored. I can only assume that google tend to ignore links in such pages. my question is - WHY?! and furthermore, how to overcome this. Thanks.

• Aggregate root & Repository dilemma

  I am in a big dilemma here. I have a League, Team and Player entities. I have created a repo for the league only as a Team cannot exists without a League. At first I had bounded the players only with the team but then I realised I would have a problem with free agents so I also bounded the players to the league. Then I was wondering if a player could exists without a League or a Team and I am totally confused to that question. So would you make a player repository or include them in the league repo? Thanks

• Two "subdomains" crossing search results

  My question relates to two websites, each of which is a "Calvary Christian College", however in two totally different locations and unrelated to each other entirely (except by name, and domain). All schools in the state are issued a .qld.edu.au, in this case calvary.qld.edu.au and calvarycc.qld.edu.au. Now what's interesting is that these domains are crossing each other in sitelinks for searches such as "calvary christian college townsville" (if you check the sitelinks 2/6 are to a different domain). I've put a demotion in for this ages ago (we control calvary.qld.edu.au), however we're seeing no change on the results page. I have been able to get the owners of calvarycc.qld.edu.au to submit demotions for our domain, which should go in sometime this week. What can we do to tell Google that these websites are not interchangeable, despite both appearing as "subdomains" of qld.edu.au. We can possibly open channels of communication with the administrators of qld.edu.au but will need to tell them what we need to change, and at this point I'm out of ideas.

• Unity-2D ALT F1,F2 custom configuration

  I have been using Ubuntu since the first public version (I used Debian before). I always have had the policy to change between 8 workspaces with ALT F1...F8. I know this is not a "standard" or so, but I prefer this. It worked well with Unity (Unity-2D, I mean) too, after some configuration. But currently the odd thing happened that after a system restart this is not the case anymore, I am totally lost what could happened. Now ALT F3...F8 works, but not ALT-F1...F2, which just focuses launcher/dash, which is not the thing I want. I know this is the standard meaning of these key combinations (AFAIK) but defining my own key combinations worked before and now it stopped working ... If someone have any idea how to restore my custom configured meaning for ALT F1...F2 too, please share with me. Thanks!

And that works for the following subdirectories, right? www.example.com/music/ Is there any other way to achieve this without using an index.html file? (I've read smth about converting dynamic urls to static: ./?var1=value1&varN=valueN - ./value1/valueN) How can I convert www.example.com/music/ to music.example.com/ and why should it be used? • No GUI after upgrading from 12.04 to 14.04.1

  Yesterday I upgraded Ubuntu version from 12.04 to 14.04 from update manager. After upgrading it, my system got automatically restarted and now I am not able to switch to GUI mode. Its showing me command prompt mode only. I have tried ctrl + alt + f7 & sudo apt-get install Ubuntu-desktop And all but its not responding. I am newbie in Ubuntu so I don't have much idea that what's going wrong with it. How can I switch to GUI mode now.

• Trouble installing downloaded program

  I purchased and downloaded Celtx and I'm having trouble installing it (in Ubuntu 13.04). I'm a Linux newbie (literally had it for four days) so please be kind and don't assume much experience with the command line, I'm still learning. The folder with all related files/packages etc. is under "Downloads" and I have tried several commands to try and install but I'm just not doing it right and would appreciate help with exactly what command(s) to use. Sudo apt-get install celtx did not work. I'm assuming I'm missing a step somewhere.

• How do I get my RTL8192ce based wireless device working properly?

  I am using the rtl8192cu chipset (on a Belkin wireless USB adapter N300) combined with 64 bit architecture and the 3.8 kernel. Some of you may know that this doesn't work. I tried this fix - RTL8188CU USB Network Adaptor on ubuntu 13.04 and now my internet is super slow. I am totally new to Ubuntu and I am concerned I do not have the right driver. The "stock" driver was the RTL8192cu, but it didn't connect 99% of the time and if it did the upload speed was higher than the download. Right now I am connecting through my laptop with a crossover cable, so my internet connection is just fine in my apartment. Relevant output from lsusb is here: Bus 002 Device 002: ID 050d:2103 Belkin Components F7D2102 802.11n N300 Micro Wireless Adapter v3000 [Realtek RTL8192CU] (bonus question: is that [050d:2103] the actual physical address straight from the hardware? Or does it change when I put different drivers on it? I am concerned I do not have the right driver)

• Handheld device software - Handheld tuners?

  Hey I've been looking around and really don't understand what software some of these company's use for their handheld devices. I've used a lot of Handheld Tuners (Cobb Accessport, Diablo Sport). I've gotten more and more knowledgable of programming and I'm really wanting to understand what software they use on these devices to have a graphical interface. And to hold all the files to flash over to the ecu. I'm just unsure how you would get basically all the components to work together (screen, buttons, memory) without having drivers installed. I could be totally wrong here on using the term drivers, but that's what I would like some help to get more knowledge on (only thing I've really found is making a handheld game boy from scratch,but that was using a emulator.). I've tried looking it up but can't really find a good write up or explanation anywhere I look.   I have a homemade project combining with application and database. Today I'm using architecture N-tier. Totally I have 4 project in my solution in VS2010. The fourth project is a transaction layer that connect all the 3 project (one for presentation, business logic and database layer) in order to retrieve data from the database and all the way to present the data in presentation layer. Transaction layer contains entity framework 4 + customized class to carry data to the presentation layer. I always use LINQ to retrieve data in database layer. From my experience, everytime I use LINQ in relation with entity framework it always take a lot of time to retrieve data because what I believe is that my entity framework always has to reload everytime when I want to retrieve any data from the database. My question for you guys is: When you create your application connecting to a database, what architecture do you use? How do you retrieve the data from you application? Is it entity framework etc?

• Floppy Drive not recognised

  I am a newbie with Ubuntu during the past two weeks, and I believe, that I have made good progress so far. Current setup tasks are completed, like: "Wireless Network, Printer, Thunderbird + Firefox, e-mail", also my local weather station - all setup. Updated files and rearranged the desktop to my liking. The problem I have now is my floppy drive which is not recognized, but the activity light is shown on constantly. I have downloaded the "MakeFloppyDriveAvailableToEveryone" and i am confident that I can follow the instructions to change the floppy drive. However, I do not have an existing fd0 file in /dev/???, but only /dev/fd/ files 0 to 46. Please advise.

• Window colors/shades/decoarations/whatever per instance

  Sometimes I open several instances of one program at the same time and have to switch between them every few seconds and get totally confused as to which is which (they all display similar information, except few bits). I'd like to have each one of them color-coded, different shades, window border, etc or have anything visual to make them differ from one another to ease the confusion. Ideally this would happen automatically when I launch a new instance. I guess this belongs to the window manager so mine is xfce. In one of the window managers I used to use a huge label was displayed each time I switched between workspaces, something like that (with window title or simple number) would do as well. Any clues?

• Creating basic ACPI event makes the system unusably slow

  I want to change a few settings on my laptop when I switch to battery power. I created a new event in /etc/acpi/events/cust-battery and it looks like this: event=battery action=/home/skerit/power.sh I put a simple command in the power.sh file: echo This is a test >> /home/skerit/powertest Now, when I tail this file it shows "This is a test" 4-5 times upon switching to battery power. However, the system becomes totally unstable. It slows down significantly. I can't change anything in the terminal. The terminal and certain parts of the screen (like the gnome system monitor applet) go blank from time to time. What can be the cause of that? It's a simple echo that gets executed a few times!

• interface changed after restart on Xubuntu

  Something happened a few times after using Xubuntu since 1 month ago. A few times after i restarted my laptop the interface was totally changed. The icons from the panel were different and almost everything. It looked great, it had a grey interface, very nice icons, buttons were bigger and everything looked great. I have no idea what happened, i tried to find the same interface/theme from Settings Manager but without succes. Can anyone please tell me what happened or how can i use the grey interface? It dissapeared after i restarted the laptop. Thank you

• How can I get a 1920x1080 resolution?

  I a newbie Linux and have just installed Ubuntu in a dual boot with Windows 7. I love the interface of Ubuntu but unfortunately I can only get a 800x600 or 1024x728 resolution with black bars all around the screen. I have an nVidia GTX 570 graphics card and an Asus 1080p 23" monitor. What may be of note is that I had to use the nomodeset command on installation of the boot would get stuck at a line with "nouveau", which I understand is to do with the drivers. Additionally, when I type in xrandr to the terminal, it comes up with the error message "failed to get size of gamma for output default". I guess what I am looking for here is someone who could explain to me really simply the steps I have to take to get a full 1080p resolution, at which point I am sure i will become a great fan of the OS! • purple screen when booting on lenovo G505s

  I successfully installed Ubuntu 14.04. I'm having the purple screen issue however even after making the nomodeset changes. It remains stuck on a purple screen. I can navigate through the menu options i.e Ubuntu, Advanced Options for Ubuntu, Memory Test, Windows Recovery Environment and Windows 8. I can't even boot into Windows 8. I'm totally new to this. If someone could please provide step by step instructions, that would be most appreciated.

• Why can't get past the user info screen when installing 10.10?

  I have a Dell Inspiron 1318 (07-08?) with an Intel Cored 2 Duo Processor and 3 GB of RAM. I can run Ubuntu 10.10 from the disk, but I've tried to install it three times with no success. As the files are installing, the program asks me to enter my user information. I'm fine through the time zone screen, and fine through the keyboard screen. But when it asks me to set my used name and password, the "next" button stays ghosted out no matter what I enter. Eventually, the installation gets to the point where it says it's waiting for me, but no matter what I do I can't get the "next" button to click. I'm a complete newbie, and I've been stuck at the same spot three times. If anyone has any idea what's going wrong, I'd love to hear about it.
